Fanfic / Danny Phantom: Split

Go To

Split is the tenth story in Stranded. Danny is once again split into two.

Tropes:

  • Abhorrent Admirer
    • Colette is this for Fun Danny and Paulina is this for Super Danny. Both versions of Danny are not flattered by their interest and much prefer Star over them. When the two versions of Danny get spotted by Colette and Paulina at the pier, their first instinct is to flee.
    • Dash is still this to Colette for being a boorish moron. She only uses him to get out of being grounded and ditches him at the movies to look for Danny.
    • Mikey is this to Colette, even more so than Dash because while she doesn't find him as bad as the Dumb Jock, she considers Mikey even lower to her standards for being a "nerdy peasant". Fun Danny uses this to his advantage by tricking Colette into thinking Mikey is at the movies looking for her while holding a bouquet of flowers so she'll run away and leave him alone.
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Colette swoons over Fun Danny because his crude and aggressive attitude makes him more interesting and challenging to try to seduce.
  • All Guys Want Cheerleaders: Danny keeps a picture of Star with her cheerleading uniform.
  • Attempted Homewrecker: Paulina and Colette refuse to give up on dating Super Danny and Fun Danny, respectively, no matter how many times they tell them that they're already in a happy relationship with Starlight Spirit and Star Strong, respectively.
  • Brutal Honesty: Fun Danny is even more openly disdainful of Colette than regular Danny as he tells her to get lost because he wants nothing to do with her.
  • Casanova Wannabe:
    • Dash actually thinks he has a chance with Colette, who only has eyes for Danny.
    • Both Paulina and Colette are this to Super Danny and Fun Danny, respectively, because their constant flirting does nothing but annoy them to no end.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Super Danny represents the ghost side of Danny who wants to help people and protect his town from evil.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Both Colette and Paulina are in love with one side of Danny and seem to be even more determined in this fic than usual.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: Both Fun Danny and Super Danny become jealous if the other is around Star and act competitive with each other for her attention.
  • Entitled to Have You: Paulina and Colette show this attitude toward Danny since they don't mind trying to steal him from Star, even when he tries to make it clear he doesn't like either girl.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • Super Danny doesn't get along with Fun Danny, especially when Star is involved, but can't bring himself to leave him with someone as awful as Colette.
    • As much as Star enjoys having two Dannys, she eventually gets fed up by their constant fighting over her.
  • Girls Have Cooties: Youngblood calls Star a "cootie-factory".
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Paulina and Colette are jealous of Starlight Spirit and Star Strong, respectively, for having the affections of Super Danny and Fun Danny, respectively.
  • Guile Hero: Fun Danny tricks Colette into leaving him alone by making her think Mikey is at the theater looking for her while holding a bouquet of roses so she runs away.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Super Danny and Fun Danny have every right to be annoyed by Paulina and Colette’s stubborn insistence on dating them since they already have Star for a girlfriend.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: Fun Danny represents the human side of Danny who just wants to be a regular teenager that hangs out with his friends and has fun with his girlfriend Star.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Paulina unknowingly offends Super Danny by insulting his cape (bedsheet). When he makes it clear he doesn’t approve of her comments by informing her he likes his cape, Paulina tries to save face by giving him a false compliment about it but Danny's having none of that since he can immediately tell she's lying.
  • Literal Split Personality: Danny accidentally ends up splitting his ghost half from his human half again.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Danny never told Jazz about the events of "Identity Crisis", and she's annoyed to learn so late.
  • Noble Male, Roguish Male: Super Danny is the formal and responsible Noble Male to Fun Danny’s crude and lazy Roguish Male.
  • Not Good with Rejection: Paulina and Colette keep hounding the two Dannys no matter how much they make it clear they're not interested.
  • Oblivious to Hatred:
    • Dash is still too dense to notice that Colette is repulsed by him and is only using him.
    • As usual, Colette and Paulina can't get it through their thick heads that both Dannys don't want anything to do with either of them.
  • Order vs. Chaos: Part of the conflict between the two Dannys. Super Danny represents the ghost hero aspect of Danny's personality who wants to help people and fight bad guys while Fun Danny represents the human aspect of Danny's personality who just wants to be a normal teenager and have fun.
  • Rejection Affection: Colette finds Fun Danny's harsh attitude very appealing because his fire and unkempt appearance make him even more "untamable" and she welcomes a "bigger challenge".
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: Colette does notice that Fun Danny acts different than regular Danny, but she just chalks it up to her “peasant” stepsister Star being a bad influence on him.
  • Slobs Versus Snobs: Fun Danny is the crude and fun-loving Slob to Colette’s cultured and vain Snob. Ironically, she finds herself even more attracted to him than usual for this since she deems him to be an even bigger challenge to “fix”, which makes her both excited and determined to correct his slovenly behavior.
  • Uptight Loves Wild: The bossy, stuffy, and controlling Colette Bevier is even more attracted to the crude, rude, and sloppy Fun Danny than the regular Danny because she finds him even more untamable and thus a greater challenge in changing. Deconstructed as this just makes Fun Danny find her even more clingy and creepier than usual.
  • Villain Respect: Youngblood's assistant actually commends Danny for getting medieval terminology right.
  • Wanting Is Better Than Having: Star wanted a ghost-free weekend to enjoy with Danny, only to find him being split apart and Youngblood causing trouble is making her change her mind.
