Produced 2005, aired in U.S. on 9/23/05

Production order: 25 (2-5)

Danny is sick and tired of his ghost life messing with his human life. So, he splits himself in two using the Fenton Ghost Catcher. His ghost self handles his superheroic duties, while his human self goofs off. However, the two must find a way to work together when Technus comes to cause trouble.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Conservation of Ninjutsu: After the Dannys go through the Fenton Ghost Catcher the second time, both of them are able to turn into Danny Phantom, but with their powers split between them. Fun Danny can fly and fire ghost blasts while Super Danny can become intangible.
  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: Turns out the Fenton Ghost Catcher had a "Merge" option on it, meaning they could've merged the two Danny halves properly at any time. Tucker can only respond in a resigned tone when he finds this out.
Tucker: "Side 2: Merge". "Side 1: Separate." (Annoyed) Duh.
  • Dramatic Wind: Parodied with Super Danny, due to being the "heroic" side of Danny. His hair and "cape" are constantly blowing when he gives dramatic speeches, even in areas where it's unlikely to be windy (such as his bedroom).
  • Forgot I Could Fly: Subverted. It's not that Danny forgot he could've flown his friends to the movies, he just resorts to tricking his dad into driving them instead because, according to Danny, he drives faster than he can fly.
Tucker: [to Danny] Couldn't you have just flown us?
Danny: The way my dad drives, this is faster.
  • Idiot Ball: Both sides of Danny seem to be holding it during the episode, possibly due to their intelligence being split between them. Super Danny spends all night fighting with Technus but doesn't realize until much later that Technus was (obviously) using power from the power plant to keep himself running all night. Also, when both sides of Danny team up to fight him at the carnival, they only managed to power him down and push him into the lake. Neither side even bothered to suck Technus in the thermos when they had the chance.
  • Large Ham: Technus as per usual. Super Danny takes it up to eleven as he is REALLY into his role as a superhero. He even uses a bedsheet as a cape, something Fun Danny finds ridiculous.
  • Literal Split Personality: Danny tries to use the Fenton Ghost Catcher to split his ghost half from his human half. It works about as well as you'd expect. Fun Danny (the human half) is fun-loving but kind of apathetic, while Super Danny (the ghost half) is obsessed with crime fighting but reins in the boyscout-ness attitude.
Super Danny: [to Fun Danny after saving him] Dueling doppelgängers! Have you lost your half of our mind?!
  • Plot Hole: Danny has trouble getting back together again, and it's not until a third pass through the Ghost Catcher (on its merge side) that he manages to do so. However, in "What You Want" (episode 6, Season 1), when he first passed through the same catcher, he easily manages to merge back with his ghost half without going through it again. Also, the method on how he managed to merge is also an issue. In "What You Want," his ghost half just re-entered him, and there were no ill effects. Yet, in this episode, Super Danny tried the same but only manages to overshadow his other half.
    • Also, the two Danny's personalities splitting, as well as human Danny having longer hair on the back of his head, makes no sense. Though it was only used in one episode prior, the split between them before didn't appear to cause any personality changes or physical differences between them in terms of their base designs. In reality, they should've had the same personality, but divided their focus between them.
    • Also, why would Danny's parents build a device for the explicit purpose of separating ghosts from humans, but then have it also work in reverse to fuse them together? The episode should've had the teens trying to convert it to doing that if they wanted that plot point to make sense.
    • The fact that Technus was still trapped in Danny's game at the beginning of the episode when the very previous episode showed Technus as one of the ghosts attacking, still in the form he took in "Teacher of the Year", which the viewer would assume Danny returned him to the Ghost Zone afterward.
  • Running Gag:
    • Whenever Technus sees a picture of someone, he draws glasses and a mustache on it.
    • Tucker saying, "I call the Fun Danny!" before grabbing and running off with him.
  • Sanity Slippage: Jazz spends most of the episode fearing this when she sees both versions of Danny together. She knows his secret at this point, but Danny doesn't know that she knows yet.
  • Split-Personality Team: Despite spending most of the episode clashing with each other, Fun Danny and Super Danny eventually learn to work together in sync before they merge back together.
  • Superheroes Wear Capes: Another parody with Super Danny. He puts on a cape as part of his dedication to his role as a hero, but the cape was just one of his bed sheets. Fun Danny even lampshades just how ridiculous he is being.
  • [Verb] This!:
Technus: If you wish to split your focus, you must learn how to multitask.
[Tucker and Sam arrive with the Ghost Catcher]
    Tucker: Multitask this!
  • We Will Meet Again: As Danny sucks him into the Fenton Thermos, Technus declares he'll be back.
Technus: I'll be back, child! Count on it!
  • Wham Shot: After being driven out of the Fentons' house by the Ghost Catcher, Technus reveals his ghost form has changed, with him now sporting a lab coat-like cape, a pair of legs, and a mullet.
