Ensemble Darkhorse / Crossed

Go To

Several Crossed characters from the comic are extremely popular among fans and stand out amid the enormous and constantly changing cast.

  • Jackson from the "Wish You Were Here" webcomic became so popular (standing out among an already popular ensemble cast) that he eventually got his own mini-spinoff.
  • Among the Cavaites associated with Jackson, there's Rab, Elisa and Skip. Rab is arguably the most pronounced and morally upright Reasonable Authority Figure in the series, and has some amusing bickering with his more pompous co-leader Don. Elisa is a troubled sniper and Action Girl but one with some good moments of humanity, at least before her Flanderization in Volume 3, while also having an interesting Tomboy with a Girly Streak design. Skip is a dreadlocked Sad Clown with Cool Shades who serves as The Ferryman between Cava and the mainland and has some good moments with his family.
  • Captain Dora Natori of the Drift Fleet, a Lady of War commanding perhaps the largest survivor group featured in the series, and managing to avoid the Crossed for years.
  • Jasper's group who the Cavaites encounter are seen as decent characters (except for Jasper himself) but the one who most achieves this status is Richie, for his Butt-Monkey status and some decent depths.
  • Sarge and Stace the River Cops shown in a couple of Wish You Were Here flashbacks during the initial outbreak and fish Shaky out of the river. Sarge for being a Large Ham, and Stace for being a Hyper-Competent Sidekick and a bit of a decent Action Girl.
  • Badass Biker Errol from American Quitters is one of the most memorable characters in the entire franchise due to being a cool-headed Crossed killer with a skull helmet and an unusual mission.
  • From the original run, people enjoy Kelly the blind woman and gay man Thomas for their close bond and moments of levity and compassion. Big Bad Horsecock also counts for his memorable weapon and overall role in the comic, and so does Kitrick the Death Seeker who started out as a background character but went through a Character Development.
  • Prince Harry, the Celebrity Survivor Cold Sniper with the Bandaged Face from the first Badlands arc manages to be one of the most memorable characters due to his unique past and skills. Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass Alec and Combat Medic Ricky from the same arc are also fairly likable, the former managing to save the group by tricking three of the Crossed into killing each other, the latter putting up a solid fight in the final issue and both being decently moral people.
  • Fleshcook, for being a rare "smart Crossed" who isn't sadistic and is also quite sympathetic to many readers.
  • Pat, the old hunter from Quisling counts as well, given his overall personality and the manner he goes out along with his grandson Tommy.
  • Bloom and the other East Coast Hunters from Mimic for being pretty competent and clearing out the Crossed ruthlessly, but not without losing sympathy themselves unlike Bailey from +100. Plus they look decently cool.
  • Genheim McBlarney and his son Oneway, the two balloonists from the remains of New York City have a good amount of both competent and funny moments that endear them to fans. The latter also ends up as Only Sane Man in Bailey's army.
  • Lorna, the cop trying to keep her niece safe throughout The Golden Road is considered the only redeeming point of that arc for some.
  • Tom and Jackie, the pilots in The Thin Red Line also count, making a considerable effort at fighting Crossed and preventing the nuclear catastrophe, while having some believable Unresolved Sexual Tension. The same arc also features Dr. Chopra, who gets some credit for making the most scientific progress into studying the Crossed before things go sideways and averting the usual Scientist vs. Soldier conflicts in her interactions with Harry.
  • The unnamed Marine sergeant representing the military evacuation of San Diego appears is one of the more memorable parts of the Gavin Land arc.
  • From Gore Angels there's Emikos's Father, a somewhat humorous grouch at first who then proceeds to get out his katana and starts cutting down Crossed left and right before later using the same blade to threaten Ryan after the discovery that he raped Emiko in the past. Emiko's love interest Cody, not the guy from the bunker group is also well-liked, as a particularly Nice Guy who also has an appropriately angry reaction to finding out what Ryan did.
  • Now, Future Taylor's Orc Raised by Elves Crossed baby from the 100+ storyline. Being one of the rare Crossed who has enough self-control to not act out her homicidal tendencies has left an impact on some readers, many of whom hope for her to return in the future as a Hunter of Their Own Kind.
