Tropes in her work include:
- Action Girl: Several of her characters are capable young women, most prominently superheroine Kerry Loudermilk from Legion and Prey's Naru, a Comanche warrior.
- Actor-Shared Background: She's played Native American women multiple times.
- Badass Native: Kerry Loudermilk from Legion and Naru in Prey. Both of them are Native American (Comanche in Naru's case) and also powerful, skilled warriors. There's also Tantoo in The Ice Road, a Badass Driver introduced being released from prison following a protest her people, the Cree, are staging ("We’re gonna keep doing it until you get off our land.").
- Fake Nationality: She's of Native American and Thai-Chinese ancestry, but has played several Latinas in her work, probably due to having a similar look per the Latina stereotype.
- Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Given she's 5' 5¼" (1,66 m), her Action Girl roles are automatically this. Helps she's a fan of martial arts.
