Major Characters

     Alma
The player character, designed as the ultimate combat android and tasked with saving android-kind by collecting the meteor shards and destroying the barrier around the Anima meteor.

  • Deal with the Devil: If she accepts M's offer to kill another android and give her their time, something that clearly disturbs her if she goes through with it.
  • Informed Equipment: She's depicted using a sword in most cutscenes, though many players favour axes instead due to their powerful counter-attacks.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Her build is more slight than Raquel yet she's indicated to be a superior combat android and she's able to deflect attacks from huge androids several times her size, such as knocking huge beetle androids onto their backs.
  • Superior Successor: Doctor Zepherina based her design on Raquel, a powerful warrior, and she's said to be the ultimate combat android. Played with in that the reason Raquel was chosen was because of her empathy, and Alma is told the Doctor wanted her to be more than just a weapon.
  • Walking Armory:
    • Multi-Melee Master: She's capable of wielding swords and axes, including dual-wielding them, and also uses a bladed spinning top called the Spinner.
    • Multi-Ranged Master: She employs a range of projectile weapons including shurikens, guns and explosives.
  • We Can Rebuild Him: She's seriously damaged when Crater Tower appears and has to stay in a healing pod for a long time, during which she loses most of her memories. Should the player lose to the Dark Spawn at the end of the tutorial she'll be rescued by Vana and rebuilt in Gear Village.
  • What You Are in the Dark: Iris is too afraid to follow her into the cathedral, meaning no-one else will ever know if she decides to take advantage of ???'s services and kill a friendly android for their time.

     Iris
A fairy bot from the Workshop who accompanies the player. She was separated from her sibling and wants to find her.

  • Attack Drone: If her friendship is maxed she'll start attacking enemies automatically. The damage isn't high but she can chip away at weaker opponents or interrupt their attacks.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Her creator and the sister she is looking for are both dead, but if she survives then she's able to built more fairy bots and create a family like they wanted.
  • Exposition Fairy
  • Moment Killer: If the player saves Raquel she butts in to introduce herself shortly after they're reunited.
  • Optional Party Member: The player can simply refuse to save them or let their time run out.
  • Your Days Are Numbered: Her timer is significantly shorter than Alma's and she'll need regular doses of Meteor Dust if the player wants to keep her around. She will ask for it when her time runs low but understands if you decide you need it more.

     Raquel
A warrior android that Alma's design was based on and who trained her and became her lover. Currently missing after the appearance of Crater Tower.

  • Apologetic Attacker: During the first phase of the final battle she apologises as she summons dead bosses to attack you.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: It's mentioned she was rather cold towards Alma initially, likely because Alma was designed to replace her and she's afraid of becoming useless. She gets over it and the two became lovers prior to the game's start.
  • The Heart: Despite being a warrior she was originally built as a personal assistant to humans and she still cares about the ones she worked with and who told her their dreams. It's for this quality and not her combat prowess that she was chosen as the template for Alma.
  • Take Up My Sword: Alma can find her signature red axe embedded in a Dark Spawn and reclaim it. Raquel will comment upon this in the ending.

     Doctor Zepherina
A human who aids the androids instead of trying to wipe them out or subjugate them. She built Alma and repaired her after she was damaged when Crater Tower appeared.

  • Big Good: She was a great friend to the androids being the one who built and repaired Alma, studied Anima and sent the Meteor Shards for study, which become key weapons in the fight against the Dark Spawn. Finding her grave is quite a sombre moment.
  • Defector from Decadence: Where most humans sought to kill or enslave the sentient androids she helped them.
  • Posthumous Character: The player can find her grave east of Gear Village.

     The Grim Reaper Android
When her time runs low Alma receives a message from a mysterious android known only as ??? who waits in the old cathedral. She offers to kill a friendly NPC and present their Anima Core to Alma, granting her their time.

  • Big Damn Heroes: If befriended she'll appear when Crater Tower is collapsing during the end sequence and use the last of her power to teleport Alma and Raquel out.
  • Deal with the Devil: Her offer is very much this.
  • Forced into Evil: Exploring the crater tower reveals she was once a normal android named Morgana who was captured, mind-wiped and turned into an assassin to collect Anima for the humans.
  • The Grim Reaper: She wields a giant scythe and has the ability to kill any android, anywhere.
  • No Name Given: Her name is simply listed as ???. Defeating her sees her give her name as M, presumably all she remembers of her original name, Morgana.
  • Optional Boss: Alma can refuse her offer and reject the very idea of killing others to survive, which will trigger a boss fight.
    • Guide Dang It!: To trigger the fight it's not enough to refuse her offer, the player has to say yes then choose ??? from the list of contacts to kill, twice.
