In General:
- Badass Family: The Simmons.
- Dirty Communists: There isn't a single Russian character who could be described as entirely good, in no small part due to their role in the capture and torture of Bill.
- Freudian Excuse: Just about every child character gets one in regards to why none of them turn out to exactly be well-balanced adults.
- Humans Are Warriors

Bill Simmons
- Badass in Distress: Not once does he seem to be able to catch a break.
- Badass Normal: Considering he's a regular human who's contended with Decepticons and lived more than once, this definitely applies.
- Determinator: Truly a man who does not know the meaning of the word "quit". Even after over 3 years of capture Bill's no closer than he was before.
- It Runs in the Family: There does seem to be an element of hereditary badass-ness. His grandfather helped found Sector 7, his mother was a high ranking agent and now, so is he.
- Patriotic Fervor: A form of "Patriotism is good". Bill is very proud to be American, and that pride and belief in American ideals served no small part in getting him involved in the military in the first place.
- Killed Off for Real
- Reports of My Death Were Greatly Exaggerated: Bill has been believed dead for a long, long time when in reality he's just imprisoned.
Tova Simmons
- Alcoholic Parent: She's not taken the disappearance of her husband very well.
- Retired Badass: Once a very capable agent of Sector 7, but following a close encounter with a thawed "N.B.E 1" and her husband's subsequent disappearance, Simmons left the organisation to raise her son, changing her name and opening a deli.
- Give Him a Normal Life: What she wants for her son.
Seymour Simmons
- Tell Me About My Father: His mother refuses to do this.
- Young Future Famous People: At the time of the story, Seymour is only a young child.
Joe Danco
- Death Equals Redemption
- Et Tu, Brute?: His betrayal in Sector 7 is what resulted in Bill being in his current position in the first place.
- Green-Eyed Monster: Let's just say he's not happy that the Simmons family got to take all the glory for the foundation of Sector 7, despite the fact that it was his own grandfather was actually one of the ones who first found "N.B.E 1".
- Unwitting Instigator of Doom: It's both his actions and consistent need to tell his new bosses about the allspark that end up attracting the attention of the Decepticons.
Alisa Morozov
- Action Girl
- Badass Normal: A completely human woman who's also an operative of the Soviet Union's elite Spetsnaz.
- Stealth Expert: As a spy for the Soviet Union, she has to be.
- Killed Offscreen: The real Morozov has been dead for quite a while.
Voskhod
- Follow in My Footsteps: Presumed to be the case as his nephew, Alexi, later grows up loyal to the Decepticon cause.
- Karma Houdini: Suffers no consequences for aiding the Decepticons.
- Reluctant Mad Scientist: Notably, unlike other Decepticon allies he is not entirely happy with his current situation, and his only reason for being involved with them at all is for the sake of survival.
- Sole Survivor: The only one left alive out of all the scientists at Soviet Research Station Oktober. Pretender made sure of that.
Gould
- Follow in My Footsteps: Gould has taken steps to ensure this happens with his son Dylan from a very young age.
- Karma Houdini: Betrays his entire species and what does he get? Some good old fashioned payback? Nope. More like a pay check. Or rather, many, many pay checks.
- Only in It for the Money: Gould cares very little for the Cybertronian war and how it turns out. The only reason he helps the Decepticon's at all is because doing so makes him a lot of money.
