The Kryptis
The Kryptis in General
A demonic race from the Mists.
- Alien Kudzu / Meat Moss: Kryptis corruption causes meaty, pulsing roots to grow over structures. Their home realm of Nayos is covered in it.
- Body Horror: In spades. Many of them loosely resemble other creatures, cobbled together from horribly warped flesh and bone. A few of the more humanoid ones (such as Peitha) 'wear' clothes that appear sculpted from their own flesh.
- Demonic Possession: They are able to possess mortals and manipulate their emotions.
- Emotion Eater: They gravitate towards areas where people are going through a lot, be it good or bad. Both Cerus and Eparch remark on how fascinating and tasty the Commander's psyche is, and even Peitha is particularly drawn to it, though much more polite about it.
- Eyeless Face: Many of them lack eyes... if they even have anything resembling a face.
- Lovecraftian Superpower: Frequently, of the Combat Tentacles variety.
- Our Demons Are Different
- Spikes of Villainy: Of the organic, bony kind.
Cerus
A Kryptis Lord of House Nephus, and the brother of Deimos and Peitha.
- Always Second Best: To his brother, Deimos. His main motivation is proving himself to be just as capable.
- Big Bad: Of Secrets of the Obscure.
- Body Horror: On closer examination, his two wing-like limbs are made out of many fused arms and hands.
- Caught Monologuing: Upon capturing Isgarren and the Commander he takes the time to circle around them while explaining his motivations. This bites him in the arse when Isgarren uses the opportunity to empower the Commander to fight back.
- Cold Ham: While he never raises his voice and is unsettlingly relaxed for the most part, Cerus is also very chatty with a tendency towards Evil Gloating - and a the odd bout of Evil Laughter.
- Evil Sounds Deep: Speaks with a deep, eerily calm voice.
- Horned Humanoid: Has a huge, crown-like formation of horns.
- Ominous Walk: Pursues the player character this way.
- Sadist: He's practically getting off as he describes how he released his hold on Isgarren's mind, but not his body, during Mabon's death so he could feed on the pain of Isgarren being forced to watch his old friend die while being unable to do anything to stop it.
- Sibling Murder: Is the target of this by his sister, Peitha.
Heitor
A Kryptis loyal to Eparch, as well as Cerus' mate.
- Kissing Cousins: If she is indeed Peitha's cousin, she would also be the same to Cerus. That said, Peitha was uncertain of the correct Tyrian word, so it's possible they aren't literally related.
Nourys
A colossal, powerful Kryptis who leads the assault on Amnytas.
- Combat Tentacles
- Eye Scream: Part of Nourys' boss fight involves blinding it with skyscale fire.
- Red Baron: Nourys, the Eyes of the Abyss.
- Tentacled Terror: Nourys is Octopus-like, and extremely malevolant.
- Too Many Mouths
Eparch, the Midnight King
The tyrannical demon ruler of Nayos, the Realm of Dreams.
- Even Evil Has Loved Ones: It's accepted by all the other characters that any offer of mercy is a lie to begin with, but he nonetheless flips out in a rage when Labris kills herself to keep from being held hostage against him and declares he'll kill anyone and everyone who stands against him.
- Monstrous Cannibalism: Eparch has taken to eating his own subjects, which convinces the Kryptis Peitha to rebel against him.
