Rangers

    Dillon the Armadillo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dillon_7.png

The main character of the series. An armadillo of few words.

  • Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: A rather exaggerated example. Dillon wears such gear such as a cowboy hat, a pair of fingerless gloves, a pair of boots, a teal bandana, and a belt, but wears neither a shirt nor pants.
  • Fully-Dressed Cartoon Animal: He would become this in Dillon's Dead-Heat Breakers by gaining a leather sleeveless shirt and pants.
  • Heroic Mime: He says absolutely nothing, no matter the situation. It's come to the point people understand him only by staring at him.
  • Last of His Kind: It turns out that he is a descendant of the ancient folk of the old west because he is the only one capable of using the structures that require his spinning attributes.
  • Orphan's Ordeal: Being an orphan in the wild west is bad enough. Getting your orphanage home taken by an evil con artist is another.
  • Perpetual Frowner: Besides being a Heroic Mime, good luck seeing this guy crack a single smile.
  • Primary-Color Champion: He's the protagonist, and he's bright yellow with a red shell, a blue bandanna, and cyan eyes.
  • Spectacular Spinning: It's the solution to almost everything!
  • Wild West Armadillo: An anthropomorphic armadillo, and a Wild West ranger.

    Russ the Squirrel

Dillon's sidekick. A squirrel who dutifully assists Dillon in fighting Grocks.

  • Barefoot Cartoon Animal: One of the very few characters in the series who doesn't wear shoes, and the most notable of them all.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Had he shut up, he wouldn't have provoked Boone into fighting Dillon the first time they met.

    Gallo the Coin Killer
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gallo.png

A calculating reptile known for killing targets and placing coins on their eyes to pay their ferry through the River Styx.

  • Hired Guns: Prior Dillon hiring him, he was initially hired by King Ron to kill Dillon and Russ because Ron lied that they had stolen his money, when in truth he stole their home and tried to kill them despite getting all the money. Gallo couldn't care less, though, and will carry his job regardless of how immoral it is.
  • Jack of All Trades: Among the other hired rangers, he has no advantages or disadvantages.

    Boone the Berserk Shooter
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/boone_78.png

A boisterous bear proud of his strength.

  • Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: Boone wears even less clothing than Dillon, wearing only a yellow bandana and a belt. This completely contrasts with the other two ranger partners (Gallo and Nomad) in The Last Ranger, who are both fully-clothed.
  • After-Combat Recovery: The advantage he has over the other hired rangers is the fact he can actually self-heal when injured too much. However, this can be a disadvantage, since it means he will not engage in combat until he fully recovers.
  • Arbitrary Weapon Range: A disadvantage he has is his short range. If he doesn't get an enemy close, he will ignore them. Justified in-game, since he likes bashing his rifle rather than actually shooting from afar with it.
  • The Big Guy: Out of the hired rangers, he has the most HP.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: Likes showing off his strength and will make sure everyone knows he's the strongest guy around. To make a point, he actually bashes his rifle into enemies.

    Nomad the Assassin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nomad_0.png

A foreign squid pirate of incomprehensible language.

  • Cold Sniper: Out of the hired rangers, his range is the largest and he can strike enemies outside of combat to dispose of them without endangering his life. Though this has the consequence of forcing him to avoid close-combat for a little while, sometimes allowing some more durable enemies to slip by and maybe breach a village's gates while he's busy shooting from afar.
  • Language Barrier: He speaks a different language than the rest of the cast. While his words are translated on field in-game for convenience, in-universe, he's indecipherable to the cast save Sal.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: 'Nomad' is a nickname Russ gives him due to being unable to understand his words.
  • Stealthy Cephalopod: Nomad, a squid, is known in-universe as "the Assassin" for his skill as a Cold Sniper. He ranks high in speed and swimming skill, but not so much in power or toughness. He also wears a poncho that conceals most of his upper body and face.
  • Super-Speed: In stages with water, Nomad can travel far distances very quickly if he dives into a lake connected to another one.
