Main Characters

    Yuki

Yuki Itose

Voiced by: Sumire Morohoshi (Japanese), Lara Woodhull (English)

A freshman in college who is attending a non-deaf school for the first time in her life. She can communicate via sign language, reading lips, or through her phone.

  • Cheery Pink: Aside from her hair, Yuki loves everything pink, from her clothes to her hearing aids. She is also a cheerful and sweet-hearted college student.
  • Cute Mute: Yuki herself is a sweet-hearted college student who is deaf, and, as such, never talks, only communicating through sign language, writing or texting. However, the audience can still hear her inner thoughts.
  • Elective Mute: Yuki is capable of speech, but soon after her voice was mocked as weird sounding, she started staying completely quiet.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: Yuki has dyed pink hair and is an absolute sweetheart.

    Itsuomi

Itsuomi Nagi

Voiced by: Yu Miyazaki (Japanese), Reagan Murdock (English)

An upperclassman at Yuki's school, who she meets on the train while trying to deal with a foreigner. He's fluent in Japanese, English, and German, while studying three other languages, including Japanese Sign Languages.

  • Manic Pixie Dream Guy: Itsuomi is a more subdued version - he's not as hyper or wacky as some versions, but he's a rather direct and active guy who dyes his hair silver, has multiple tattoos, and regularly travels (to the extent that the biggest reason it takes as long as it does for him to get together with Yuki is that he took a couple trips abroad after meeting her). Yuki even notes that he experiences worlds she never even imagined, and that getting to know him opens up these worlds to her.
  • Nice Guy: Itsuomi is a sweet guy, as he often tries to help others like his cousin or Yuki. It's no surprise that Yuki falls for him.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: Itsuomi tends to get uncomfortably close to people, usually to Yuki (not that she minds). According to Kyouya, he's always been like this.
  • Omniglot: Itsuomi can speak Japanese, English and German. He also reveals that he can speak a little Chinese and is currently learning Spanish and Japanese Sign Language.

Friends

    Oushi

Oushi Ashioki

Voiced by: Takeo Ōtsuka (Japanese), Nazeeh Tarsha (English)

Yuki's childhood friend, who knows sign language. While he has an obvious crush on Yuki, she sees him as an annoyance.

  • Cannot Spit It Out: As if his Tsundere attitude and Condescending Compassion weren't enough of a barrier to any potential relationship with Yuki, Oushi seems to be utterly incapable of admitting his own crush on Yuki (he's very clearly not in denial; he just won't admit it to anyone else). His sister even calls him out on it.
  • His Own Worst Enemy: Ultimately, a combination of Oushi being a Tsundere, his Condescending Compassion and incapability of admitting his crush on Yuki is hurting his chances of being seen as a love interest for her.
  • Hopeless Suitor: He really has no chance with Yuki, thanks in part to him getting in his own way.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Deep underneath his hostile, childish jealousy lies a kid whose heart is in the right place but has trouble communicating his true feelings. Yuki uses the way he signs as an example: while his hand movements are sharp and pointed, sometimes they also look fragile, like he's struggling to convey what he means.
  • Tsundere: Oushi towards Yuki. While he does care about her, he acts too rude and insensitive because of her deafness. Even the way he signs reflect this with Yuki remarking his hands are too sharp but sometimes look frail which makes her wonder if he worries about her.
  • Unlucky Childhood Friend: He's had a crush on Yuki since he was a kid, but his bad attitude combined with his inability to communicate his feelings properly means he never had a chance with her.

    Rin

Rin Fujishiro

Voiced by: Kaede Hondo (Japanese), Rebecca Danae (English)

Yuki's friend from college. While she doesn't know sign language, she does help Yuki take notes in class. She's very supportive of Yuki's relationship with Itsuomi.

  • Genki Girl: She is quite cheery and energetic (but still fairly mature) especially when she's around Kyouya.
  • Luminescent Blush: She goes very red whenever Kyoya is around or mentioned.

    Kyouya

Kyouya Nagi

Voiced by: Ryōta Ōsaka (Japanese), Kamen Casey (English)

Itsuomi's cousin. He runs a bar and grill Itsuomi works at, and where Yuki and Rin frequent.

  • The Bartender: Owns a bar that Itsuomi works at. He sometimes also give advice to Yuki and Itsuomi.
  • The Reliable One: Out of the main characters, Kyouya is the most down-to-earth and calm.

    Emma

Emma Nakasono

Voiced by: Nao Tōyama (Japanese), Julie Shields (English)

Itsuomi and Shin's friend from high school. She has a huge crush on him, which he does not reciprocate in the slightest. Unbeknownst to her, Shin has a crush on her as well.

  • Hopeless Suitor: She's not getting with Itsuomi any time soon and completely lost her chance when he chose to date Yuki.
  • Oblivious to Love: Has no clue Shin has a crush on her, since she's so fixated on Itsuomi. She starts to notice after Itsuomi and Yuki go out.
  • Self-Proclaimed Love Interest: Comes over to Itsuomi's house frequently, acts clingy with him, and even makes comments out loud to Yuki to suggest she got intimate with him. Of course, Itsuomi is having none of it.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: Emma is fixated on Itsuomi and him alone, and has been since at least high school (given that the series begins with Itsuomi in at least his second year in college, that's at least 3 years). The problem she has is that he has no romantic interest in her whatsoever. She'd later lose her chance when Itsuomi dates Yuki. She ended up moving forward with much difficulty on her part and found her Second Love in Shin.

    Shin

Shin Iryu

Voiced by: Tasuku Hatanaka (Japanese), Ethan Gallardo (English)

Itsuomi and Emma's friend from high school. He has had a crush on Emma for a while, but she's too hung up on Itsuomi to notice. He currently works at a hair salon.
