Hayate starts out as a wheelchair-using IllGirl with an apparent [[CosplayOtakuGirl cosplay fetish]]. The [[ArtifactOfDoom Book of Darkness]] grants her four servants, the Wolkenritter, whom she adopts as a family. Her kindness towards them turns the once-coldhearted group into nice, caring people. Unfortunately, a TreacherousAdvisor has it in for her, and when the Wolkenritter are killed in front of her, she [[BreakTheCutie snaps]]. The Book of Darkness takes control of her and attempts to destroy everything in sight. Luckily, she is able to regain control of herself and revive the Wolkenritter in time to help Team Nanoha neutralize the Book. After the death of Reinforce, she created her second Unison Device ''Reinforce Zwei'' and the Storage Device ''Tome of the Night Sky'', which is modeled after the original one. And Mariel Atenza also created her Armed Device ''Schwertkreuz'', which is modeled after the original ''Schwerzkreuz'' from the GrandFinale in ''A's''. In short, Hayate is one of few mages who uses multiple Devices.

* {{Expy}}: Of Kari Yagami from ''Anime/DigimonAdventure'', another IllGirl surnamed Yagami with short brown hair who unknowingly cohabites with one or more supernatural creatures working against the heroes, but which eventually make a HeelFaceTurn out of love for the girl and help her to unlock her shocking power in order to defeat the monstrous bad guy.

The twin {{catgirl}} {{familiar}}s of Admiral Gil Graham, who are better known as Aria Liese and Lotte Liese in the fandom. They usually go with their shortened names, '''Aria''' and '''Lotte'''. Served as Chrono's magic and martial arts teachers. They turn out to be the mysterious masked men who aid the Wolkenritter, and are working to help them complete the Book of Darkness so they can seal it away as part of Graham's plan.

* CryCute: During the ''A's'' finale.

* EnergyBow: Her [[GratuitousGerman Sturmfalke]], an energy projectile launched from her Device Laevatein when it assumes its rare bow form.

Demonstrated when she cast [[WaveMotionGun Starlight Breaker]] at Nanoha and Fate, who promptly fled as far away as they could, because the explosion it created was as almost as large as Uminari City itself.

* UpToEleven: Takes copied spells and makes them even more powerful.

* BigBad: Is the closest thing that ''A's'' has to a central antagonist as its corrupted programing is the reason for the Book of Darkness eating away at its masters bodies and eventually leads to them destroying themselves and the worlds around them which is the cause for every tragedy involving the Book of Darkness. The movie amps this UpToEleven by making [=NachtWal=] a more prominent character from the start and [[AdaptedOut removing]] [[spoiler:Gil Graham and the Liese twins]] thus making [=NachtWal=] more [[AdaptationalVillainy malevolent to compensate]].

* NiceHat: Has a beret when her Knight Armor is active. She seems to ditch it in the ''[[Manga/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaViVid ViVid]]'' and ''[[Manga/MagicalRecordLyricalNanohaForce Force]]'' manga though.

* BunniesForCuteness: She had a stuffed rabbit whose design can be seen on her NiceHat.

* CrossAttack: Her Armed Device is named "Schwertkreuz," which means "Sword Cross" in GratuitousGerman. It normally takes the form of a small gold cross, usually hanged on a gold chain like a pendant. The gold cross is originally the remaining non-magical fragment left behind by Reinforce, and is used as part of the Device with Hayate's stated intention. When activated, it takes the form of a cross-shaped MagicStaff, serving as the cannon-body for Hayate's spells.

* InstantExpert / PossessionImpliesMastery: Played with. Since she cheated by having her head plugged into an ancient magical tome designed [[PowerCopying specifically to record spells and magical knowledge]], she has an amazing amount of power and knew how to cast right after she first transformed. While she does have the highest PowerLevel in the series, most of her magic is too impractical in a straight up fight because she doesn't know how to tone down her power for small scale work or even ''aim'' properly without help from MissionControl or Rein.

* CreepyCoolCrosses: Hayate's Schwertkreuz is the most obvious, but also present on her UNISON'd Knight Armor.

She's his DistaffCounterpart, [[http://www.mangareader.net/magical-girl-lyrical-nanoha-strikers/3/17 she feeds him with meat]] in the ''[=StrikerS=]'' manga, and Arf appears in his route in ''VideoGame/TheBattleOfAces''; the only three other routes in which she appears are Nanoha, Fate and Chrono's. In Fate and Chrono's cases, she's a part of their family, in Nanoha's case, she appears alongside with Fate. In Zafira's case, there is no given reason, except maybe this trope.

* PostFinalBoss: [[spoiler:Reinforce serves this role for the ''A's'' series after [=NachtWal=]'s death. While Reinforce is no longer actively trying to kill the heroes the fact is that, due to her corrupted programing, eventually she will be forced to create a new [=NachtWal=] and the cycle of death will begin all over again. The only way for the Book of Darkness incident to be over once and for all is for her to be sealed while their is no Defence Program to protect her in order to permanently prevent [=NachtWal=]'s resurrection.]]
