Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.

openIndentation in FreudianTrio
A lot of the work examples in the Freudian Trio pages don't have bullets, so the examples are listed like this:
Work A
- Superego: Alice, because blah blah blah
- Id: Bob, because blah blah blah
- Ego: Charlie, because blah blah blah
This doesn't seem like a correct way to list things, but this particular format isn't listed in Example Indentation in Trope Lists, so I guess it's technically not prohibited?
Even so, I'd like to indent the examples correctly, so would it be more appropriate to list the examples like this:
- Work A
- Superego: Alice, because blah blah blah
- Id: Bob, because blah blah blah
- Ego: Charlie, because blah blah blah
Or this:
- In Work A, the three main leads have this dynamic. Alice (superego) is blah blah blah, Bob (Id) is blah blah blah. Charlie (Ego) is blah blah blah
openTropers/Catdog
After seeing an edit where Catdog inexplicably deleted all context from the trope Evil Sounds Deep, I looked at their edit history and found that almost all their edits are problematic in some way:
- Deleting all context (again).
- Poor grammar.
- Completely deleting listings of the trope "Kavorka Man" without an edit reason. (This one gets a pass since it's troping a real person anyway.)
- Other deletions without an edit reason.
- Deleting page images.
- Deleting part of a work description.
This is the only edit of theirs that I'm not sure of anything being wrong.
I don't think notifiers will cut it, though I did send one for the first edit linked before making this query.
Edited by homogenizedopenHow could I find my previous entries in the trope finder?
I can only see my edits on trope pages, but not my questions here or on the trope finder.
openRegion-specific slang
The Friends Headscratchers page has the phrase "chucking a tanty", which is apparently an Australianism for "having a temper tantrum." Is this term too out there for a predominately American-centric site? I wouldn't want to start an edit war by changing this one without permission.

openHeadscratchers and Fridge Logic
Okay, so perhaps this is too large of problem to properly discuss in one ATT thread, but I figure I'd try.
Headscratchers are questions about a work that have confused Tropers—why did a character do this instead of this? How were they able to do that? Isn't this impossible?
Fridge Logic is, according to the Laconic, "Belated realization of something in a work that wasn't an issue before." Examples being: how did this person get all the way across the world in such a short amount of time? If ET can make the bicycle fly, why didn't he use it at the beginning of the film to avoid pursuit?
When it comes to Fridge Brilliance and Fridge Horror on pages, it's pretty common for it to have the psuedo-forum pattern wherein other Tropers edit in their responses to the original entries—usually adding in extra details about the "Fridge" moment.
The thing that I'm confused about—or concerned about?—is that Fridge Logic and Headscratchers pages seem to virtually work the same. A Troper is confused about something in a work, other Tropers try to explain it. 99% of the time, Fridge Logic subbullets aren't about "here is another reason why this is confusing," it's someone trying to figure out an answer.
I guess what I'm trying to figure out if this is a "problem" or not. Is it totally harmless for Fridge Logic and Headscratchers to work the same, or are there supposed to be different criteria for both? I would guess that Headscratchers could have possible answers, while Fridge Logic wouldn't...
...although that could open a whole new can of worms about what would separate Fridge Logic from Ass Pull.
Can I get some other Tropers' opinions on this?
openDo Tony Awards count as an AudienceReaction? Music
Over on Hadestown, there used to be a short sentence about how it won a bunch of Tonys and was one of only 4 productions to do so with the same person writing the book, lyrics, and music. This was deleted because an Audience Reaction is a no-no in the description, but the entry wasn't overly gushy about how it was so popular or anything like that. What do you guys think?
This was the original sentence: "The production won the Tony Award for Best Musical, becoming one of exactly four shows to win that had music, book and lyrics by a single person (the others being Drood, RENT and Hamilton)."
Edited by lalalei2001openEdit war on Hades' YMMV page. Videogame
On the YMMV page for Hades, troper _____________ added an example for Narm:
- Narm: The game is rated T, so it can't show anything too crazy, but what we hear in the blacked-out sex scenes that include Thanatos largely consists of what can be described as awkwardly serious chuckling, perhaps with a crack of Megaera's whip.
A few days later, Zaptech removed this example, with the edit reason "Pretty sure that this is intentionally humorous.". Then, a few days after that, _____________ added it back, with the edit reason, "Well, I find it unintentionally humorous.".
I decided to bring this here because, besides it officially being an Edit War, this seems to being something that _____________ has done before (ie. add a YMMV example based more on his own opinions than the general opinion of the fans), as a comment on this post for Demon's Souls brought up him doing this with an example for Anti-Climax Boss
openTrivia deleted without edit reason Live Action TV
Almost exactly a year ago, ~William Shakesman deleted the following entry from Trivia.Space 1999, without leaving an edit reason:
- The series has the unusual distinction of being mentioned in a U.S. Supreme Court decision, in the case of Hudson v. McMillian, 503 U.S. 1 (1992), where Justice Clarence Thomas quoted from an earlier Seventh Circuit decision., Williams v. Boles by Judge Frank Easterbrook (the context was less than complimentary, however, as watching reruns of the show was mentioned as a form of torture). See this article on The Other Wiki.
I didn't notice it until today. To me, this seems like a perfectly good piece of trivia (AFAIK trivia pages are explicitly allowed to have entires which are not examples of any trope). In fact, it was I who moved it there from the main page quite some time ago.
I've tried messaging William Shakesman about it, asking why he removed it, but haven't received any reply.
I can't just put the entry back without discussion, since that would be edit warring. So if William sees this, or somebody else has some comment, I'd like your opinions.
Edited by GnomeTitanopenDeleted without explanation
Kryticreviewer deleted this subbullet without an edit reason from Magnificent Bastard on YMMV.Fate Stay Night (the character was approved by the thread):
- Caster, True Name Medea, is a devious mage from the Age of Gods who seeks out the Holy Grail to preserve her short time with her Master and lover by any means necessary. Her first attempt at stealing Shirou's Command Speals in his sleep is only thwarted by the untimely appearance of Archer, but she later uses a hostage as leverage for Shirou to finally bequeath Saber to Caster. Taking every opportunity to tip the odds in her favor, Caster plays with the rules of the Grail War, such as summoning a fake Servant in Sasaki Kojiro, to meet her own ends. At one point commanding three Servants with Ryudo Temple as her base, Caster attacks the church and seemingly kills Kirei Kotomine, taking over the church and using it as a stronghold. Despite plunging the Unlimited Blade Works route to its Darkest Hour, her final act is to express her love for Kuzaki, reminding everyone of Caster's complicated, duplicitous nature.
They in turn seem to have a Single-Issue Wonk with this character in particular, going to the character page and deleting all the sympathetic traits of the character such as: Wouldn't Hurt a Child, Even Evil Has Standards, Broken Bird. In addition they added a bunch of unflattering tropes such as: Smug Snake, Big Bad Wannabe, Out-Gambitted.

openCreating a page for the command and conquer generals contra mod Videogame
I feel like the contra mod for cnc generals is unique enough to warrant a page, with its revamped units, tactics, special ranking system lock, and an epic unit for each subfaction, 2 in the case of one general.
So can it be given the green light to create? And if I'm chosen to design it can I get some help?
Edited by ssbob90openScarlet Nexus pages got nuked after all its tropes got hidden
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/VideoGame/ScarletNexus
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Characters/ScarletNexus
Used to exist, but after the tropes got hidden by other users due to speculative troping, the entire pages, with opening blurbs and all, got cut.
Need to know if there will be mechanisms that will restore the pages wholly in the future, or if the standard practice is to just recreate the pages entirely when the time is appropriate.
(Vaguely feel like the pages were singled out in particular, considering other pages for yet-to-be-released products never got this treatment.)
openReporting a Troper
I'd like to report the troper Kryticreviewer. This user has been making numerous bad faith edits to pages of, or relating to the Fate/stay night franchise, including accusing critics of the DEEN adaptation as the anime as "badmouthing and snubbing" it in some of their YMMV edits, removing the approved Magnificent Bastard entry for Caster along with removing any trope from her page that portrays her in a redeeming light as mentioned below, and using the Flame Bait trope, Tsundere Sue for Unlimited Blade Works' adaptation of Rin Tohsaka.
Edited by Awesomekid42openReporting Troper
I would like to report a troper by the name of Aftermath Jack. I'm a frequent troper for the fan work Null, and here's the page's edit history.
Aftermath Jack consistently makes bad edits, with no semblance of proper grammar or attempts at spoiler tagging, leaving someone to always have to go back in afterwards and fix his messes. I have reached out to them regarding this and have never received a response, yet they continue to make their bad edits and leave other people to clean up the mess. It's getting tiring, and looking through their edit history makes it clear that this is a universal problem.
A recent problem, however, is that they'll try to add tropes that are already there; in Null, they did it with Curb-Stomp Battle and Deus ex Machina. There were already examples, but because they apparently didn't bother reading the page they didn't see that and tried to add them somewhere else (in places that were incorrect from an alphabetizing perspective, as well).
In short, they don't use proper grammar, spelling, spoiler tagging, or formatting. Any of those issues would by annoying on their own, but all four at once is an absolute pain to clean up after and I'd appreciate it if something could be done.

Is there a process for submitting a character to be considered as The Scrappy? I looked on the main page and all it said was that you had to wait 6 months after the character is introduced, but I couldn't find any forum to discuss it on.
