A double dose of deconstruction!
- On the left: The eponymous [Haruka] Kotoura-san had everyone else call her a "creepy monster". However, she simply had no way to know any better about her own inadvertent Telepathy prior to the backlash.
- On the right: Satori Komeiji (whom Haruka is an Expy of) has an entire song
dedicated to the same kind of uncontrollable Telepathy where this trope is referenced. Her example is a bit less sympathetic since she knew about her powers from the get-go and bragged about them; but it still clearly hurts her.
PINNACLE OF MAN
J. Geil here is a monstrous, smug serial killer/rapist who enjoys seeing women scream. Having raped and murdered one of the heroes' sister, J. Geil flat out told him that his sister was "really good at sobbing" and mocked the guy for dedicating his entire life to hunting him, J. Geil, down. Didn't go well at all.
The only person who was willing to forgive him was his own mother, who is no saint herself.

Krieg usually spouts some nonsense about meat and poop every time he splits a bad guy open. If it wasn't for his sane personality reining his psycho persona, however, he wouldn't be siding with the good guys.

Mario's not the only Wonder here.
Haruka's case is very understandable for three reasons:
- She's the most physically and emotionally delicate character in the main cast.
- She has Telepathy; finding the non-violent solution comes naturally to her (but not automatically due to Power Incontinence).
- Because of point #2, she's often accused of being "a monster", so she's not in any kind of moral position to express violence at all nor take advantage of anyone's personal weaknesses.
Doesn't fit his/her/its setting, and is more effective for it.
These two may literally be more bark than bite, but they are no less tenacious than everyone else.
