They have their father's...everything.

Strong Family Resemblance in Anime & Manga.

  • In Active Raid, the only difference between two Yamabuki sisters, Rin and Hinata, is their eye color. Despite the fact that the latter one is in high school, while her older sister is a police officer.
  • In Ah... and Mm... Are All She Says, Seiko and her sister Yuuko look so much alike that Tanaka mistook Yuuko for Seiko when they first met.
  • While not very closely resembling her half-sisters at all, Urd of Ah! My Goddess is a dead-ringer for her own mother, Queen Hild. If it weren't for Hild's slight height advantage, different hairstyle, and slightly larger bust they could pretty easily be mistaken for one another.
  • In Angel Densetsu, Kitano looks a lot like his father. Which is very sad for him.
  • Asteroid in Love:
    • Mira Konohata and her mother Yuko look very similar; the only difference is height and the fact that Yuko likes to tie her hair up into a bun. In addition, they text in a similar style that includes a large number of (LINE) stamps. Lampshading this point, Ao and her mother Shiori commented "Like daughter, like mother" when they read Yuko's text.
    • In terms of appearance, Chikage Sakurai looks like her older sister Mikage but with longer and redder hair. Mai particularly notes the strong resemblance between the two siblings.
  • In Attack on Titan, The Hero Eren Yeager looks almost identical to his mother Carla, the only actual differences being their eye colors and Carla's Motherly Side Plait. Just look. Levi and his mother as well
  • Azumanga Daioh: The manga doesn't show us any of the girls' parents (unless you count Chiyo's dad) but in the show, we get a brief glimpse of Kaorin's mother, who is basically a slightly taller Kaorin in an apron. We're also told that Tomo and her father had the same hairstyle at some point.
  • This is the case for the Laforets in Baccano!, where you can probably pick out one of them from a sea of characters on the basis that they're all nearly identical to their father, Huey.
  • Baka and Test: Summon the Beasts: Minami's little sister, Hazuki, looks like a miniature version of her.
  • In Bakuman。, when Akito Takagi and Moritaka Mashiro look through a yearbook that Moritaka's uncle Nobuhiro "Taro Kawaguchi" Mashiro had, they realize that Miho Azuki's mother, Miyuki Haruno, looks quite a bit like Miho did when she was in high school.
  • In Battle Spirits Shonen Toppa Bashin, the protagonist, Toppa, looks like he could be a younger version of his father. Additionally, Striker looks near identical to his father, down to the same improbable scythe-like hairdo. Of his four younger siblings, two of them share a more subdued version of Striker and his father's hair, and two have the same hairstyle as the mother.
  • Kei in The Beautiful Skies of Houou High looks almost like a younger version of her father.
  • Berserk:
    • An intresting example: when Guts and Casca's child first appears it looks nothing like its parents. But the Moonlight Boy (who is suggested to be what their child would've looked like) has Casca's long black hair and eyes, and Guts' nose, eyebrows and skin-tone. Very apparent when all three are pictured together.
    • Farnese has the same face as her mother. The only differences are a different haircut and demeanor.
    • Serpico has some similar features to his father Federico, especially his narrow eyes (in the rare occasion Serpico opens them) but his half brothers look more like their father.
      • Farnese and Serpico bear more than a few similarities, which is unsurprising considering they're half siblings.
    • Miscellaneous examples include Theresia from the first arc, who is identical to her mother, and Princess Charlotte, who apparently looks the late Queen. This becomes gross and creepy when her father the King nearly rapes her because of the resemblance.
  • Ciel from Black Butler already looks almost exactly like his late father, Earl Vincent Phantomhive, and will definitely be a carbon copy of him once he's older. He was shown as an adult in the 'Ciel in Wonderland 2' OVA and the resemblance was striking. And considering Sebastian has taken the appearance of Earl Phantomhive, except for the eyes, this could raise some interesting questions when he's older.
  • Bleach:
    • Byakuya is the spitting image of his deceased father, Soujun. The only difference between them is the way they wear their hair.
    • The Omaeda siblings all look like Gonk-style clones of their parents, male and female both. The youngest sister Mareyo is the only one who looks different, being stunningly beautiful and catching the eye of all the male shinigami. Her family, however, think she's the ugly duckling.
    • Ryuuken and Uryuu could be mistaken for brothers instead of father and son, especially since Ryuuken looks younger than his forty-something years. Uryuu does get his black hair and some of his more pensive facial expressions from his Missing Mom, Kanae, but otherwise he's his father's son from head to toe. This post shows the three together.
    • Rukia is nearly identical to her older sister Hisana Kuchiki, right down to favoring the same hairstyles until Rukia gets an Important Haircut in the X-Cution arc. This stands out because Hisana abandoned Rukia as an infant and then died before the pair could ever be reunited. The uncanny resemblance is lampshaded in the story when it's revealed Byakuya's original lie for adopting Rukia was her resemblance to his dead wife.
    • Yuushirou and his older sister Yoruichi look quite similar, despite their difference in age and gender.
    • Towards the end of the manga, two young children are featured. On one hand Ichigo's son Kazui looks like a younger Ichigo, but with his mother Orihime's eyes and facial expressions. On the other, Rukia's daughter Ichika has her mother's features (especially her Tsurime Eyes), plus her father Renji's spikey red hair.
  • Blue Exorcist has an unusual case considering Kato's Cast of Snowflakes art style. Most of the time you can merely tell that they are related by similar features, but in the case of the Kamiki family all them look so alike they might as well be clones. Considering they are apparently descendant from a Byakko and have spent generations focused on a single ritual and specific abilities, this might be justified.
  • Bokura no Hentai:
    • Marika has a strong resemblance to her mother, made even more obvious when she grows out her hair.
    • Ryousuke looked like a short haired version of his deceased older sister in elementary. It goes the other way around too as apparently Yui was a tomboy with Boyish Short Hair until she became a model. Marika even mistook her for Ryousuke in family photos.
  • When returning to her home in Osaka in Burn Up Excess, Maya Jingu visits the memorial shrine to her mother — whose photograph looks exactly like her, albeit in a gangster kimono with tulip yakuza tattoos. It helps that the late Jingu was probably not much older than Maya was, and is grinning gunslinger in the portrait.
  • Richard of The Case Files of Jeweler Richard looks so exactly like his mother Seigi mistakes a photo of her for Richard in drag. When Seigi finally meets her, he initially believes her to be Richard.
  • Captain Tsubasa has a case of Only Six Faces, but it still qualifies in this trope:
    • Tsubasa Ohzora resembles both of his parents, inheriting Natsuko's features and Koudai's hair/eye colors. In World Youth Cup his 14-year-younger brother Daichi appears, and he's a spitting image of Tsubasa himself.
    • Jun Misugi and Taro Misaki resemble their respective mothers. In the second case, Taro's half-sister Yoshiko also resembles their mom — and him.
    • Regarding the Schneider family, Karl-Heinz strongly resembles his father Rudi whereas his younger sister Marie looks like their mother.
  • Case Closed, as one of the Long-Runners, has MANY cases of this:
    • Yusaku Kudo and his son Shinichi look almost exactly the same (Yuusaku has glasses and a funky mustache, Shinichi has a cowlick and a pointy rat-tail). The physical similarities went off the ceiling when the fans saw Yusaku at age 20: if his face was rounder and his eyes were bigger, he'd be an exact clone of Shinichi.
    • The same goes for Kaitou KID and Shinichi; even though nobody knows whether or not they're related.
    • Actually, a huge plot point in a case of the fifth season. The detective Yusuke Sakata, whose father died in strange circumstances 20 years ago, confronts a Serial Killer. Much to his shock, the Serial Killer starts referring to him as "Instructor Inaba" and babbling in horror about how "the prank went too far". That obviously, referred to the death of Sakata's dad Inaba, which he and other five people caused through a Deadly Prank. Yusuke, who had become a policeman to investigate what went on with his father, became a Serial Killer himself, catching and murdering the other culprits while keeping the Serial Killer alive and hidden while planning to kill him last and frame him for all the deaths. All to punish those who robbed him of his dad when he was a little boy. And on the other hand, this was also Yusuke's perdition: at some point Heiji and Conan saw a picture that included all of the victims plus other two persons whom Yusuke had still not killed... as well as Inaba himself. This lets them notice how physically alike Yusuke and Inaba were, identifying Yusuke as the killer.
    • In a filler case from the second season, a young woman who looked a lot like her Corrupt Corporate Executive of a mother was among the suspects of the lady's murder. She didn't do it, but she did try to use their resemblance to her advantage: she had found her mom's corpse and, panicking over the possibility of being blamed, she put on the lady's bed clothes and a facial treatment mask to impersonate the dead woman and throw suspicions off herself.
    • Averted with the Konsawatto brothers, who look nothing alike.
  • Misaka Mikoto of A Certain Magical Index looks much like her mother.
  • Chainsaw Man: Nobana is practically a genderflipped and aged-down version of his sister, Kobeni, down to the pair of moles near his eye.
  • Akira Maeda from Cromartie High School is "renowned throughout Japan for his startling resemblance to his mother", as it's put in the manga. His friends keep confusing the two of them. They were also played by the same actor in the live-action adaptation.
  • Code Geass has the lead character Lelouch vi Britannia who might as well be a Gender Flip of his mother down to skin complexion, hair color, eye color, and eye shape. This makes his insistence on his Cool Mask and Secret Identity Zero, not to mention staying out of the spotlight as Lelouch Lamperouge, make absolute sense; he even freaks in R1.07 at the thought of Cornelia seeing him as, even if she doesn't immediately connect him to Zero, there is absolutely no way she won't recognize him as the thought dead Prince Lelouch thanks to this trope. That said in R2 this ends up useful as it gets a dangerous assassin sent after him to do a Heel–Face Turn because of how much he resembles his mother confirms he's her son and thus one said assassin has sworn Undying Loyalty to.
  • Daimos: Richter is the spitting image of both his parents. In his youth, his father had a Lantern Law Of Justice (which Richter inherited, despite being an Evil Prince), and his mother had golden locks that went to her knees (which Richter has, except they're longer and almost touch the floor). In contrast his sister Erika looks nothing like them and has straight, jet-black hair that go past her hips.
  • Daltanious: Almost all Emperor Palmillion of Helios' descendants look near identical to him, even the females such as the daughter of Harlin. It becomes disturbing when you realize the Heliosian Empire was built on the backs of abused clones, so Emperor Palmillion likely deliberately bred them to be like this.
  • Deltora Quest, Lief and his father, and if it wasn't obvious enough Jasmine and Doom.
  • The Babies Ever After scene at the end of Digimon Adventure 02 played this unsettlingly straight, right down to the last child. Between that and the conspicuous absence from the reunion of any spouses who aren't former Chosen Children, it's a popular snark among fans dissatisfied with the ending to suggest that they all just cloned themselves.
  • A Dog of Flanders (1975): Alois Cogez has her mother's face, eyes, and blonde hair, but it also has a brownish tint to it, which she inherited from her dad. She also has her mother's sweet disposition, and is nothing like her haughty, abusive father.
  • Don't Meddle with My Daughter!: Clara Haruka looks so much like Athena, in her younger day, that the public initially assumes she's the same heroine who saved them 20 years ago. But after comparing video footage of both their battles, they notice Athena's breasts were larger. Which is when it dawns on them that Athena and Clara are mother and daughter.
  • In Doraemon, physical traits seem to run very consistently in the family. Doraemon has a design similar to his little sister Dorami, although she's meant to be cuter, even though she doesn't have cat ears either for some reason like her brother (who's supposed to have lost his ears to mice; all of his friends in The Doraemons still have their ears). Nobita looks almost exactly like his mother (though she got the delicate female mouth later as the author got better with his drawings), and also like his father as a child, and also like his future son with Shizuka, and also his grandson who sent (will have sent?) Doraemon back to the past to help him get his crap together. Shizuka looks exactly like her mother minus the two pigtails. Gian looks exactly like his mother and little sister; his father only appears a few times early on in the manga, more frequently in the anime, but he also shares the family physical traits. Suneo looks exactly like both of his parents who, oddly enough, look exactly like each other. Suneo’s younger brother and older cousin also look like exactly like him. Gian and Suneo look like their future sons respectively.
  • This is very common in Dragon Ball:
    • The most obvious example, as seen in the image at the trope's main page, is Goten, who looks (and acts) like Goku when he was a kid; this is lampshaded in the video games where he and a younger version of Goku appear. Goten may have initially been created to fill the 'young Goku role' left as the real Goku was too aged and Gohan was evolving into his own character, but that didn't work out too well. Since not every child in the series has such a strong family resemblance, it also removes lingering doubts that the often absent Goku isn't his father.
      • The movie Battle of Gods lampshades this as well: when Pilaf and his goons see Goten, they mistake him for Goku and are scared out of their wits.
      • Also seen in the main page image: Goku's father Bardock is nearly identical to his son, except for scars and a slight difference in facial shape.
    • Goten himself later on lets his hair grow out as a means of distancing himself from his strong resemblance to his dad. Ironically, this make him look more alike his paternal grandmother Gine.
    • Gohan also has some resemblance to his mother Chi-Chi, inheriting her light peach skin tone and some facial expressions, while inheriting Goku's eyes. Though he ends up looking more like Goku as an adult.
    • Similarly, the few times Vegeta's Disappeared Dad King Vegeta is seen, he looks pretty much like an older Vegeta with a few minor differences: brown hair, a slightly sturdier build, and a goatee.
      • In an anime movie, Vegeta's great-great-grandson shows up and he looks identical to a young Vegeta (It's unknown if he descends from Trunks or Bulla). And said Vegeta Jr.'s mother looks like Bulma, only with spikier hair.
    • Speaking of Bulma, her daughter Bulla takes her looks while Trunks has inherited his mother's coloring.
    • Trunks' facial features are identical to Vegeta's (except softer and with a longer face), the only huge difference being his eye color and hair. The first time Future Trunks shows up, Bulma even comments how he and Vegeta look alike.
    • Incidentally, the resemblance is "second son identical to his father": Goku is Bardock's second son while Goten is Goku's second.
    • Bardock’s first son Raditz has his mother Gine’s hair. Pan, Gine’s great granddaughter resembles her along with Chi-Chi and Videl.
    • More like "second child identical to one of the parents". Bulla looks exactly like Bulma, and is her second child with Vegeta.
      • Interestingly enough, Gohan's hair resembles that of his father's older brother Raditz when it's ankle-length, though it does manage a Goku-ish shape during the Cell Games. Although that could be because Goku himself cut it.
      • Or what Gohan's second child, if a son, would look like... Though Gohan's great-grandson, Goku Jr., looks identical to Goku, though with his grandmother Pan's eyes.
    • Apparently this all has to do with Saiyan genes. It's a form of identification to tell the weak Saiyans from the strong ones easily through facial features and whatnot.
    • Frieza and his father strongly resemble each other as well, though it could be a quirk of their species.
    • Krillin and Android 18's daughter Marron looked like Krillin with pigtails as a toddler. As a young girl, she resembles her mother. Which raises questions as Krillin's lack of nose is a plot pointnote ; Marron has no nose like him as a toddler, but gains one as a young girl.
      • Lastly, an extremely subtle example with Android 16's eyes being the exact same (shape and colour) as Dr. Gero/Android 20, which makes sense as 16 is modeled after Gero's deceased son.
    • The 2008 special reveals that Vegeta has a younger brother, Tarble, who looks like a much younger version of both his dad and big brother. In fact, he's near identical to the pre-teen Vegeta from the Bardock movie, save for the shorter hair and smaller eyebrows.
  • Not only does Shobu of Duel Masters look almost exactly the same as his Disappeared Dad (Animation Anatomy Aging the only real difference), but the two even dress the same.
  • Father and Son has a few examples:
    • Shou is noted to looking exactly like his father when he was little. When he and Youichi are in Bungo's cake shop, there are a few pictures, which show Youichi as a kid.
    • Ta-san, one of Shou's classmates, has two older brothers who look just like him. Shou, who hadn't met them until he went to their apartment, nearly freaked out over the sight.
    • Mami's younger brother, Shinya, looks just like her, but with shorter hair.
  • In Fairy Tail:
    • Lucy looks almost exactly like her mother Layla, seen during the Phantom Lord Arc.
    • Hoteye, the man with the polygonal face, mentions he had a missing younger brother, who is later revealed to be the even more polygonal Wally from a previous arc.
    • Silver, the Token Good Teammate of the dark guild Tartaros, looks like an older version of Gray Fullbuster with slicked-back hair, a scar on his head, and a five-o'clock shadow. Turns out, he's Gray's dad...or rather, the reanimated corpse of his dead father.
    • Irene Belersion of the Spriggan Twelve of Alvarez is essentially what Erza Scarlet would look like if she traded armor for sorceror robes. She's actually Erza's mother...and the reason she looks like her twin rather than her mom is because that was the age her physical body was when she turned into a Dragon, and her human form locked to said age when she gained the ability to change back 400 years later.
  • Louise from The Familiar of Zero, compared to her mother Karin during her younger days... (That's from the Karin Side Stories.)
  • Family Compo: When Yukari arrives at his house to ask her recently orphaned nephew to move in with her family, Misahako initially confuses her for his deceased mother due to their near-identical appearance.
  • Fruits Basket:
    • Akito and Ren look almost exactly the same — except for Ren's long hair, and um... assets.
    • When we get a short glimpse of Shigure's parents he looks exactly like his mother.
    • Whether Yuki wants to admit it or not, he does look like his elder brother Ayame, the only differences being their eye and hair colors... and Ayame's bombastic attitude.
  • Fullmetal Alchemist:
    • Ed and Al (pre-transmutation, anyway) both look a lot like Hohenheim, especially Ed. Notably, Ed looks almost identical to the younger Hohenheim shown during flashbacks. Alphonse looks a bit like their mother too, except with blonde hair (which is dark blond in Fullmetal Alchemist (2003), which makes them look even closer) and yellow eyes.
    • Armstrong family males (and some of the women). They all have the Armstrong eyelashes, though!
    • In the finale family photo of the manga and Brotherhood, Ed's and Winry's unnamed son looks uncannily like Daddy, down to the shit-eating grin. Baby Daughter looks to take after Winry, as she has Winry's eye and hair color.
    • Envy in his true form in the 2003 anime version looks a lot like Hohenheim and his half-brothers Ed and Al.
  • In Full Metal Panic!, interestingly enough, Sousuke Sagara is shown to look almost exactly like his beautiful Missing Mom in his backstory. No wonder Even the Guys Want Him.
  • Fushigi Yuugi: Byakko Senki:
    • Suzuno Oosugi looks a lot both of her parents: she has her father Takao's hair/color scheme and her mother Tamayo's features.
    • One of the reasons why the audience doesn't know which of the Raotsue brothers is the true Tatara (at the moment) is this: Kasaru and Karumu look terrifyingly alike, down to pretty much every single physical trait (including the same heterochromia), save for Kasaru being a young adult and Karumu being a pre-teen.
  • The Tomokane siblings in GA: Geijutsuka Art Design Class do not only look alike — Nodamiki one said the older Tomokane as a "bleached Tomokane-kun" in Episode 12 — but both were voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro, hence upgrading them to Strong Family Resemblance. Even so, they are also quite different...
  • In Gakuen Babysitters, Ryuuichi and Usaida, lampshade Kamitani's strong resemblance to his mother, who shares the same eyes and hairstyle as him.
  • In Game×Rush, Memori is an almost exact younger male clone of his mother, to the point where Ken mistakes the latter for the former.
  • In Genshiken, Kenji and Keiko Sasahara (brother and sister) have almost the exact same face. Based on Keiko's annoyance at Kasukabe pointing this out despite wearing layers of kogal makeup, it seems Keiko isn't terribly fond of having this noted by others (at least in her first appearance).
  • The protagonists of Ginga: Nagareboshi Gin and Ginga Densetsu Weed look near identical, but it's justified in that they're dogs.
    • In the manga, Weed's oldest son Sirius looks identical to him.
  • Victorique of Gosick is so identical to her mother, Cordelia Gallo, that just wearing a different hat is enough to throw people.
  • Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics:
    • Snow White and Rose Red has the Nice Girl Snow White, who looks like a younger version of her and Rose Red's widowed mother.
    • Rapunzel has the son of Rapunzel and the Prince, who has his father's features and his mother's eye and hair colors.
  • GTO: The Early Years: All of Kiwamezawa's siblings, including the girls, look just like him (even if they're in elementary school). They look nothing like either of their parents, but exactly like the delivery man.
  • This trope is a common theme with relatives in Haikyuu!!, and siblings of volleyball members are no exception. One example that gets commented on is the Tanaka siblings Ryuunosuke and Saeko, who have the same fiesty face despite being opposite sexes. Both Shimada and Takinoue lampshade Saeko's resemblance to her younger brother when they first meet her.
    • Hinata Shouyou's younger sister Natsu basically looks like a miniature version of her brother but with pigtails.
  • Handsome Girl and Crossdressing Boy: When he wears a wig, Iori is almost identical to his younger sister Sayuri. Hazuki is able to tell them apart because of the size difference (in height, get your mind out of the gutter).
  • In Hare+ Guu, Hare looks exactly like his mother Weda enough that the school doctor initially confuses him for a girl. In a huge irony, the school doctor turns out to be his father.
  • In Haru and Midori, Haruko "Haru" Tachibana looks almost identical to her late mother, the protagonist Midori's old friend Tsugumi, did when she was 14. The resemblance is so uncanny that when Haru wears Tsugumi's old school uniform to Tsugumi's funeral, Midori briefly mistakes Haru for Tsugumi.
  • Hello! Sandybell: Edward Lawrence, the patient who Sandybell befriends while she's visiting her Secretly Dying father, is actually her uncle and doesn't realize that she's his biological niece through his sister. They both have the exact same blonde hair colour and deep blue eyes. However, Sandybell has pale skin while Edward has a tan.
  • Pretty much the same case with Joey Jones from Heroman, except unlike with Mizuho's case, Joey's looks aren't lampshaded at all.
  • The way the nations in Hetalia: Axis Powers are related can be a little confusing, but England and Sealand are most certainly related. Sealand looks like a younger, more hyper England.
    • If Germany were to grow his hair long, he'd be identical to his ancestor, Germania. His older brother, Prussia, also shares a certain resemblance with them, though his eye and hair color sets him apart.
      • Muss up Germany's hair and he ends up looking just like Prussia in the webcomics. Similarly, slick Prussia's hair back and he looks like a slightly older Germany with white hair and reddish eyes.
      • Depending on whether or not you believe that Germany is related to the Holy Roman Empire, or is the Holy Roman Empire, you can't deny that HRE looks like a younger Germany, and that Germany bears a resemblance to the sketch of teenage HRE when his hair isn't slicked back. Meanwhile, in North America, Canada and the U.S. look identical to the point that poor Canada is often mistaken for his more noticeable brother. Fanon has it that they're twins. South Italy looks to be a darker, meaner, and slightly taller version of North Italy, and is otherwise completely the same. Several of England's relatives apparently share his eyebrows.
      • Don't forget that both Italies strongly resemble their grandfather Ancient Rome. Both inherited the curls, Veneziano got his smile and brown eyes, and Romano got the olive complexion and dark hair.
    • In the Slavic side, Russia and his older sister Ukraine look pretty similar: they're both tall, light-haired, a little pudgy and with similar features except for Russia's nose. If we add their genderflipped versions, the similarity is even stronger: male!Ukraine is basically a more insecure Russia with yellower hair, while female!Russia is a long-haired and more smily Ukraine. As for Belarus, her coloring matches Russia's (platinum blond hair, pale skin, blue or purple eyes), she's also tall with a rounded face (though more angular features), she has a bit of a Cleopatra Nose herself, shares Russia's ability to make downright frightening expressions, and under that dress she's quite curvy, though skinnier than Ukraine.
    • Subverted with Switzerland and Liechtenstein. They're not exactly siblings (more like adoptive sibs, though it's easy to infer they're at least distantly related due to being Germanic), but they look almost exactly alike save for their eyes. And even more when Liech cuts off her braids.
    • Also subverted with Cyprus and Greece. He does look like a younger and slimmer Greece... but lacks his trademark Idiot Hair.
    • Without his hairclip holding his bangs, Norway looks very similar to his younger brother Iceland. Word of God notes that Sweden's face is similar to Germany and Prussia's faces, and explains it by revealing that Sweden has family ties to Germania.
  • Hunter × Hunter:
    • Gon looks very much like his father Ging when the latter was child. Nowadays, Ging looks like a grown-up version of Gon (but he looks more like an older Yusuke Urameshi).
    • Kurapika got his appearance from his mother and with his current design, his hair is very close to hers. That's not the only thing he inherited from her.
    • Despite already being an old man, Beyond Netero strongly resembles his father Isaac Netero in his younger (or less old) days.
  • Hajime from I Can't Understand What My Husband Is Saying is basically his father with glasses and without a mustache. And the only difference between Kaoru and her late mother is hair color.
  • Isabelle of Paris:
    • Marie to Isabelle. When they both don Ojou Ringlets, they look near-identical except Marie's wrinkles makes her look older.
    • Isabelle and Geneviève also have one. When Victor is looking at a Wanted poster for Isabelle after she's suspected by Thiers of aiding La Résistance, he suddenly gets the image of Geneviève in his head and throws the poster away.
  • JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All members of the Joestar family inherit distinctive traits that makes them almost similar in appearance. Jonathan's descendants Joseph and especially Jotaro resemble him in terms of appearance.
  • Yui and Ui Hirasawa from K-On! aren't twins (Yui is a year older) but they still look very similar in appearance. This has helped at least twice in the series: the first time when Ui attempts a Twin Switch with her sick sister and the second time when Yui basically uses Ui as a living 3D mirror to test out looks for her yearbook photo. While they can usually be told apart by their hairstyles (Yui wears her hair down while Ui wears hers in a ponytail) the only person who can tell them apart when Ui tries to pass as Yui is Sawako, because they have different cup sizes.
  • Kagerou Project:
    • Mary is almost identical to her mother Shion, aside from slightly different colouration (pink eyes instead of red, white-blonde hair instead of silver-white) and her bangs. Her facial structure (in the anime at least) is nearly identical to that of her grandmother, Azami. All three also share a Hereditary Hairstyle, which is used to identify them as Medusae.
    • Ayano and her mother Ayaka both look very similar (hair and eye colour and facial structure, mostly), only aided by the fact that Ayano wears the same hair clips after Ayaka dies.
  • Kaguya-sama: Love Is War:
    • Shirogane and his little sister Kei are noted to look very similar to each other in-universe, enough that Kaguya shows a passing interest in Kei despite her otherwise Single-Target Sexuality. They get their looks from their father, something that becomes incredibly obvious in a flashback in Chapter 91 to before he got his wrinkles. Kei is also shown to look just like their mother when we briefly see the latter in a flashback.
    • Fujiwara and her sisters are near identical, the only difference being the age gap and their hair styles.
    • Hayasaka is basically a younger version of her mother with a different hairdo. the resemblance becomes even stronger after the Class Trip arc when Hayasaka has an Important Haircut and adopts a Hereditary Hairstyle. And when we're finally introduced to her father, he looks almost identical to her "Haasaka-kun" disguise.
    • Kaguya looks uncannily similar to her late mother.
  • Lady!!:
    • Lynn Russell has her father's blonde hair and her grandfather's eyes. She also looks like the spitting image of her half-sister Sarah. However, her grandfather and many other family members discriminate against her for being half-Japanese instead of being fully British like them.
    • Sarah has her father's blue eyes and her mother's straight hair, looking eerily like her portrait in the middle of the halls.
    • Madeleine and Mary Waverly have bubblegum-pink hair. Thomas also has dark hair and eyes, just like Madeleine's father.
    • Arthur and Edward Brighton have blonde hair and blue eyes (though Arthur's hair is a lighter shade than his brother's), and their mother is a blonde too. As shown in the sequel manga, everyone in their family is a blonde.
    • Rebecca Winters has jet black hair, just like her uncle, Baron Gruffald.
  • In Laid-Back Camp, Aoi has a little sister named Akari, who looks pretty much like a smaller version of her with a lighter hair color, a different eye color and Blush Stickers. This is only exacerbated when Akari wears the same clothes as Aoi during a visit to the club.
  • La Seine No Hoshi: Marie Antoinette has blonde hair, a smooth, ovalline face and beautiful eyes, just like her little sister Simone Rolland - both are the children of Francis I, Holy Roman Emperor.
  • In Living for the Day After Tomorrow, Adult!Karada looks just like her mother Youko.
  • Lucky Star:
    • Konata Izumi is basically a clone of her mother, with her father's skin tone and mole. It's obvious enough that the Hiiragi twins mistakes a picture of her parents together for Konata and her dad, and that leads to some interesting questions. The same is true of all the mothers seen in the series.
    • The Hiiragi twins' father gets more onscreen time than their mother, but since all four offspring in their family are daughters, they all resemble Mrs. Hiiragi instead.
  • Lucy-May of the Southern Rainbow: Lucy-May and Clara have Arthur's hair, while Ben, Tob and Kate have their mother Annie's reddish locks. Lucy-May and Kate also have similar faces. See here.
  • Lyrical Nanoha:
    • Subaru and Ginga Nakajima look like splitting images of their mother. Subverted when it's later revealed that they were experimental cyborgs that Quint rescued and then adopted partly because they looked like her. Doubly subverted when it's revealed even later that Quint is their genetic mother... in the cloning sense, since the illegal researchers had somehow gotten hold of Quint's DNA and used it to create them.
    • Subaru also looks looks almost exactly like her adopted sister Nove, who was also cloned from Quint, with only her hair color being different, to the point where someone she has only just met immediately guesses that they're related.
    • In a more typical case, Nanoha herself ends up looking rather similar to her own mother Momoko when she grows up. Meanwhile, her older brother and sister resemble their father and aunt respectively (the latter being a carryover from the Triangle Heart continuity where she's actually Nanoha's cousin who was adopted into the family).
    • Lutecia looks very much like her mother Megane, particularly in her hair color and style.
    • In supplementary materials, although we've never seen Teana's deceased parents, friends of theirs have mentioned that Teana bears a rather strong resemblance to her mother, with the same hair, eye, and magic color.
    • Similarly to Quint, part of the reason that Lorrie Berlinetta adopted Rinne was due to how similar they looked (though there's nothing to suggest any actual biological relation between them).
    • Chrono looks quite a bit like his late father Clyde (especially when he grows up), though Clyde's hair was much messier. Chrono's own children take after their mother Amy, with similar facial features, hair color and Idiot Hair.
    • Fate looks like an aged up version of her older sister Alicia in the INNOCENT manga, which is justified by the fact that she's Alicia's clone in the main series.
  • Laura, the Prairie Girl: Laura has her father's chestnut-brown hair, and Carrie and Mary are both redheads (though Mary's hair leans on being blonde).
  • It's revealed about 4/5ths of the way through Macross Frontier that Alto Saotome is pretty much a clone of his Missing Mom Miyo, Hime Cut and all, in boy-drag. That explains a LOT. Sheryl Nome closely resembles her great aunt Sara Nome.
  • Aladdin in Magi: Labyrinth of Magic happened to resemble his father Solomon and the latter looked a lot of his father.
  • Maid-Sama!: Takumi Usui and his half-brother, Gerald Walker, are carbon copies of each other, except Takumi inherited their mother's blond hair, while Gerald inherited his father's black hair.
  • Yumi and her younger brother Yuuki from Maria Watches Over Us look like Half-Identical Twins and are the same age but are from separate births.
  • Hana from Michiko & Hatchin resembles her Disappeared Dad to an uncanny point. It's even more noticeable when she cut her pigtails off.
  • Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid:
    • Tohru and her father look very similar... in dragon form. Their human forms bear little if any resemblance to one another.
    • Riko looks like a younger version of her mother.
    • Elma looks like an older version of her grandmother in their human forms.
  • Lyle Dylandy's face in Mobile Suit Gundam 00 is nearly a splitting image of his brother Neil Dylandy. His resembleance is so strong that every member of Celestial Being mistook him as the original Lockon Stratos. Ironically, he ends up having the exact same code name as his late brother.
  • In Moriarty the Patriot, all the biological siblings look very similar:
    • William is only one centimeter taller and one year older than his equally blond and red-eyed brother Louis, and their features are so similar readers often mistake them for twins.
    • Sherlock can be mistaken for big brother Mycroft when his hair is properly scraped out of his face, with matching dark blue eyes, identical jawlines, and black hair.
  • Musuko ga Kawaikute Shikataganai Mazoku no Hahaoya: Baby Gospel's face, eyes, and skin are almost identical to his mother Lorem. He's effectively a gender-flipped version of her except for his naturally spiky hair and his scaly wings and tail. All of these are traits shown to belong to his father.
  • My Hero Academia:
    • Izuku Midoriya resembles his mother, as both share green hair and eyes (though Izuku's are in brighter shade than his mother's), facial features, and shy personality.
    • Shoto Todoroki resembles his parents, having both of their hair colors, eye colors, and Quirks. He also has the same hairstyle, facial features, and reserved personality as his mother.
    • Katsuki Bakugo is basically a Gender Swap of his mother, sharing his hairstyle with both her and his father, and having her blonde hair, red eyes, facial features, and explosive personality, while his interest for heroics came from his father. His Quirk is a mix of his parents, allowing him to secrete nitroglycerin (mix of nitric acid and glycerin) from his palms that he can ignite at will; his father secretes nitric acid, also from his palms that he can also ignite at will, and his mother secretes glycerin.
    • Kyoka Jiro mostly resembles her mother, having her straight, purple hair, Quirk, and reserved personality, but she also has her father's black eyes, facial features, and favor for rock music.
    • Tsuyu Asui resembles her mother, having her hairstyle, green hair, green eyes, and facial features. Same thing goes for her siblings. However, her Quirk most likely comes from her father, given his frog-like features.
    • Tomura Shigaraki (Tenko Shimura) mostly resembles his mother, having her hairstyle and facial features, but he also originally had his father's black hair and eyes, before his Quirk changed it.
    • Tenya Ida resembles all of his family members, especially his brother whom he was even mistaken for when he took his hero name. He shares his navy hair and eyes with all of them, and his hairstyle and Quirk with his brother and (most likely) father, and also wears glasses just like his mother do.
    • Keigo Takami mostly resembles his mother, having her feathery, golden hair and facial features, but he also has his father's hairstyle and golden eyes. His Quirk seems to be a mix of their as he possess a red feathers like his father (though in his case, it manifested in the form of wings, while his father just has feathery arms), and can control them telekinetically like his mother her additional eyeballs.
    • Ochako Uraraka seems to have inherited most of her mother's looks — her skin complexion, hairstyle, and even the same blushed cheeks, but she also has her father's spiky hair and bangs, brown eyes and short and stubby eyebrows. She also shares her cheery personality with both of her parents.
    • Kota Izumi mostly resembles his father, sharing his hairstyle with both him and his mother, and having his black hair and eyes, and facial features. He also has a water-based Quirk like his parents are said to had, but it's unknown if it's one of his parents' or a mix of their Quirks.
    • Yuga Aoyama mostly resembles his mother, having her blonde hair, purple eyes, and facial features (especially his close-lipped smile), but he also has his father's hairstyle.
    • Koji Koda mostly resembles his mother, sharing her Quirk, resulted from it horn, black eyes, facial features, and shy personality with her, but he also has his father's fluttery-looking peach hair at the back of his head.
    • Mirio Togata resembles his father, having his blue pie-eyes, facial features, and Quirk.
    • Eri resembles her estranged mother, having her hairstyle and blue hair.
    • Ken Takagi's son resembles him completely. Even his wife said so.
  • In My Little Monster, Haru and Yuuzan look exactly like each other. Everything from their hair color to their fake smiles.
  • My Love Story!!:
    • Downplayed with Suna and Ai. They're obviously siblings and have similar facial features however Suna's hair is a near blond shade of red while Ai's is a much deeper red.
    • Takeo looks like a mix of both his parents. He gets most of his looks from his fathers side but has some aspects of his mother, especially her muscularity.
  • In My Monster Secret, the only visual differences between Youko and her mother Touko are the color and length of their hair (Youko's is light green and long, Touko is dark green and short); it's later shown that when Touko was in high school she had exactly the same hairstyle, which causes Asahi some confusion when he's dragged 20 years into the past and meets teenage Touko. Though we only see him in a mental image, Asahi's father looks like a middle-aged version of himself with glasses.
  • Played for drama thrice in My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!.
    • Maria inherited almost all her looks from her mother, with little if any resemblance to her father. Given the fact that she's a Mage Born of Muggles, it only helped to fuel the rumors that she must have been born from her mother having an affair.
    • In the original Fortune Lover, Keith's strong resemblance to his adoptive father/distant relative, Luigi Claes, was enough to convince Luigi's wife that Keith was his bastard son. As a result, she and her daughter Katarina mistreated Keith badly for years on end. (However, in the current timeline, Katarina recovers her Past-Life Memories and clears up the misunderstanding, ensuring that her adoptive brother grows up in a loving environment.)
    • Sirius Dieke looks near identical to his illegitimate half brother Rafael Walt, so when Sirius became deathly ill his mother tried to have a dark mage tranfer his consciousness into Rafael's body.
  • Nabari no Ou: Miharu and his mother, Asahi. To the point that most non-fans simply assume that the two on this volume cover are Miharu and his own reflection.
  • Naruto:
    • Naruto, especially after Art Evolution and puberty, looks just like his father, Minato. His son Boruto in the epilogue looks near-identical to Naruto as well (with his mother Hinata's round face)...though Naruto somewhat lessens his resemblance to both his father and his son by cutting his hair much shorter.
    • Most of the Konoha 11 look like younger versions of their parents, especially the Ino-Shika-Cho trio. Hinata's mother, who was only shown in a flashback in the anime, strongly resembles her after the Time Skip.
    • In Chapter 498, Naruto meets his mother Kushina, and at one point she mentions Naruto has her face and Minato's hair.
    • Kakashi Hatake is said to look just like his father Sakumo, and indeed, several characters (Chiyo, for example) have already confused the two. For the readers it's a bit harder to tell, though it's known that two of them share their hair and eye colour. When Kakashi's face is finally shown in an artbook and then in the anime, it's confirmed: he does look like a younger version Sakumo, plus finer features and a beauty mark.
    • The Uchihas, especially those whose first names are known, seem to all look the same, to the point that they can only be differentiated by subtle features unique to each individual. Subtracting the bags under Madara's eyes, or Izuna's distinct upper lip, or Itachi's tear troughs, will result in Sasuke. Mikoto Uchiha is literally a female Sasuke with long hair. True to form, she's incredibly pretty.
    • Shisui Uchiha looked very much like his ascendant Kagami. Their personalities are strikingly similar as well.
    • Gaara and Kankuro both look a lot like their father Rasa aka the Kazekage, while appearing somewhat different themselves; same goes for Temari and their mother Karura. Karura's younger brother Yashamaru looked so similar to his dead sister that the fans mistakenly thought that either Yashamaru was a woman (until he was heard speaking) or Half-Identical Twins.
    • Kiba Inuzuka bears a strong resemblance to his mother, Tsume. Interestingly, his older sister Hana looks nothing like Tsume, and is clearly lacking a lot of the feral-looking Inuzuka traits present in her mother and brother. It makes one wonder what Kiba and Hana's absentee father looks like.
    • The Hyugas in general tend to have strong resemblance, especially when their hair is long. Hanabi looks like a young Hinata with longer hair, Neji resembles his late father Hizashi (and cousin Hinata), and most other relatives look quite alike. Hinata's daughter Himawari has a spikier variation of her mother's hair pre-Time Skip, as well as her father's traits such as blue eyes and face-whiskers. The resemblance to Hinata becomes even more pronounced after she awakens her Byakugan.
    • Kinkaku and Ginkaku, who are either fraternal twins, or half-siblings. Upon looking, fandom considered them twins. But their fourth databook info caused a bit of confusion. Their ages are the same, both being 44. But their blood-types and birthdays are different. Kinkaku being A, born March 7th, and Ginkaku being AB, born April 9th. In any case, they are not identical twins, but look similar enough. Ginkaku just looks like a smaller/skinnier version of Kinkaku.
    • Suigetsu Hozuki not only looks similar to his older brother, Mangetsu, but they both wear the same type of clothes as well. The only differences seem to be the shirt's color (Mangetsu's is black, while Suigetsu's is purple), plus the fact that Mangetsu wears a Kiri headband, while Suigetsu doesn't.
    • 15 years after the end of the Fourth Shinobi World War, most of the main and supporting characters' children look like them. Naruto's son Boruto and daughter Himawari look very similar to him, with Himawari having Hinata's hair (Boruto had purple eyes like his mother in his first anime appearance but the manga and later appearances give him blue eyes), but Boruto has Hinata's face while Himawari has Naruto's face. Sarada has the face and hair color of Sasuke and the forehead and eyebrows of Sakura. Shikadai looks exactly like Shikamaru in his younger days, except with Temari's eyes. Inojin has Ino's hair and Sai's skin and his face is a combination of both. Chocho is fat like her father Choji and got his hair color, but her skin is black like Karui's. A boy who is training with Lee looks very similar to him, and later he's confirmed to be his son Metal. Asuma and Kurenai's daughter, Mirai, looks also similar to them, with her mom's features and her dad's hairstyle. Even Akamaru's puppy looks also similar to him, but with different ears.
    • This is Played for Laughs with Chocho in Naruto Gaiden. After hearing Sarada's worries with her parentage, Chocho in turn starts doubting her own parentage. This is despite looking like a perfect mix of her mother and father (Choji and Karui). Her parents react accordingly and Sarada doesn't understand her problem either. Sarada own doubts about her own parentage were more plausible since she has an overall more ordinary appearance than Chocho, and purely by coincidence she bears a vague resemblance to Karin as well as to her actual parents.note
  • Negima! Magister Negi Magi: When Negi magically ages himself up, he's indistinguishable from his father, Nagi. When he travels into the magic world, the resemblance is a plot point. Naturally, the strong resemblance, combined with the fact that Negi's mother was never mentioned, spawned a number of Epileptic Trees concerning Negi's possible origin. This was jossed later, when the identity of his mother (Princess Arika) was revealed; personality wise he resembles her quite strongly, although he's much more upbeat. This also played for laughs; Evangeline, who was Nagi's Stalker with a Crush, mistook Negi for his father and tried to get a date out of him.
  • Neon Genesis Evangelion:
    • Initially one can't see any resemblance between Shinji Ikari and his father Gendo Ikari — but then in Episode 5 Shinji briefly puts on a pair of Gendo's old glasses, and later in Episode 21 the audience gets to see how Gendo looked like when he was younger. The resemblance is disturbingly striking, without the two of them looking like lazily designed age-clones.
    • Shinji also resembles his mother, Yui. It helps Shinji was designed to have a female looking face.
    • Ritsuko Akagi, as it turns out, shares quite a resemblance to her mother Naoko, as seen in Episode 21 where we learn that she wasn't a natural blonde — save for her characteristic mole on her cheek, Ritsuko would look a lot like her mother when she's older if you were to superimpose her original hair colour over her current one. Rather disturbingly so — even her hair and clothing styles become more like Naoko's as she gets older, not to mention her sleeping with Gendo just as her mother had done.
    • And of course, in the most disturbing example and the most loose definition of family resemblance, Rei Ayanami shares a striking resemblance to the woman from whom she was at least partially cloned — Yui Ikari, Shinji's mother. It's implied that this is why Gendo doesn't keep any photos of Yui around, since even Naoko noticed immediately. Which makes her Shinji's half-sister... sorta.
  • Mireille Bouquet of Noir looks almost exactly like her deceased mother, Odette, as is mistaken for her when she visits her old home by an old family retainer. They even share the same voice actress in both English and Japanese, and the resemblance winds up being a plot point much later.
  • Nozomu and Kanae, from Nozomu Nozomi, are an older brother and younger sister who look so similar even their parents used to get them confused. Nozumu as a middle schooler has shorter hair than his sisters but the resemblance is still uncanny. When they become the opposite sex they decide to live as each other.
  • One Piece:
    • Usopp and Nico Robin look very much like their parents when they got older. Usopp is a combination of his mother Bachina and his father Yasopp's traits (mom's long nose and hair color, plus dad's hair texture and tanned skin) and Robin is a spitting image of her mother Olvia save for the black hair (her mother's is white).
    • Vivi and her mother Titi. It's so striking that during Vivi's coming of age ceremony, her father almost mistook her for a spitting image of Titi. Here's what her mother looked like when she was young. Vivi also resembles her ancester Nefertari Lili.
    • Special mention goes to the Fishmen and merfolk, who avert this trope. First of all, the 2 aforementioned races can not only have children amongs themselves, but interbreed with one another, as well. There's a 25% chance that the baby of say, a mermaid mother and a fishman father will be either a fishman, merman, fishwoman, or mermaid. It's very likely that the child won't resemble either of the parents, because each member of these races will randomly be based on different species of fish and even mollusks too, like octopi and squids.
    • The same rules apply even if the parents are from the same race, although their child will strictly be of the same race as them. For example, King Neptune (a merman) and Queen Otohime (a mermaid) had 4 children, their daughter Shirahoshi and sons Fukaboshi, Ryuboshi, and Manboshi. They look nothing like their folks or each other, for that matter.
    • Another striking resemblance is between Rebecca and her mother Scarlett, who look insanely similar. For reference, here's how Rebecca looks like in the present, aged 16, and here's how Scarlett looked like when she was her daughter's age.
    • The Vinsmoke children got their face from their deceased mother, Vinsmoke Sora (except the eyebrows). Reiju looks like a spitting image of Sora, though she’s more sultry and pink-haired. Sora herself looks like a female version of her favorite son, Sanji.
      • Judge does share the blonde hair and black facial hair of his third son Sanji. Though it’s the only thing they have in common. The Germa Cover story confirms young Judge did actually look very much like Sanji albeit lankier and meaner looking.
    • Played for Laughs with Capone Bege's son, Capone Gang Pez. Although Pez is just a baby, he's the spitting image of his father, complete with hat, Perma-Stubble, and a cigar.
    • Pez's gonk mother Chiffon, however, plays this straighter with her estranged father Pound, plus her younger sister Lola.
    • It turns out that Portgas D. Ace was pretty much a gender flipped, darker-haired version of his Missing Mom, Portgas D. Rouge. Later chapters make Roger, Ace's father, look more like Ace with a moustache.
    • Averted with Luffy and his father Dragon. As Luffy himself points out when he sees his picture for the first time, they look nothing alike. This is played straight with Luffy and Garp, who definitely have a resemblance. Even more so when Oda reveals a 60-year-old Luffy in an SBS who's identical to his grandfather. Garp as a young marine looked like a buffed Luffy.
    • Trafalgar Law a great deal like his dad, and has his mother's eyes.
  • Mizuho from Otoboku - Maidens Are Falling For Me looks exactly like his late mother. IT EXPLAINS SO, SO MUCH.
  • Ouran High School Host Club: Tamaki Suoh has his French mother's blond hair, violet eyes, and overall look.
  • In Please Teacher!, Mizuho and her mother look very very similar. so much so that Kei confuses the two of them on more than one occasion with embarassing consequences.
  • Pokémon: The Series:
    • One episode in the Sinnoh arc features a Nurse Joy with two daughters, and they both look like younger versions of her.
    • Dawn resembles a younger version of her mother.
    • There's a heavy resemblance between Brock, his siblings, and their father. None take much after their mother besides skin tone and hair colour.
    • All of Ash's companions in Sun and Moon fulfill this to some extent.
      • Kiawe is basically his father with his mother's hair and looks like a younger version of his maternal grandfather.
      • Lana looks just like both her parents, though she favors her mother more and her younger sisters are smaller versions of her.
      • Mallow is essentially a younger female version of her father.
      • Sophocles looks like both his parents, but is pretty much a younger version of his dad with a different hair color and style.
      • Lillie is a downplayed example; she resembles her mother but not as heavily as the others do their parents.
    • Jessie looks a lot like her mother, Miyamoto.
    • Pokémon Adventures: This is likely why Y is Grace's daughter, despite X otherwise being in the player's role. Y and Grace look a lot alike.
  • The Pretty Cure franchise usually features parents who do not resemble their children a lot. While the Cures have obviously Anime Hair, most of their parents look pretty normal, but not hot at all. However, later series feature parents who have also their children's odd hair colors. Smile PreCure! is the only series who features two youthful mothers who actually resemble their daughters a lot. Yayoi's mother Chiharu and Miyuki's mother Ikuyo, the latter just look like her daughter to the extreme (in the franchise, of course). Later, Rikka's mother Ryoko looks also like the adult version of her.
    • Said above, other mothers who share the same hair colors with their daughters do resemble them, but usually not that much. You can argue how much mothers and daughters look alike or not.
    • Rin, Karen, Love, Inori, Tsubomi, Hibiki, Rikka and the complete Smile! Team got their hair colors from their mothers, Honoka, Urara, Erika, Kanade and Mana from their fathers. And Mana's hair looks nearly identical to her father's.
    • In Yes! Pretty Cure 5, Komachi and her older sister Madoka look nearly identical (to the extent that, when several characters meet Madoka for the first time, they mistake her for Komachi). Their mother has never appeared, so whether she looks the same as well is unknown.
    • In HeartCatch Pretty Cure!, Tsubomi gets her baby sister Futaba in the final episode who looks like a baby version of her big sister.
    • A very odd case in Suite Pretty Cure ♪: Hibiki's father Dan has red hair, while Hibiki herself got her hair color from her mother Maria, but Dan's hair resembles Rin Natsuki's hair a lot who is from a completely different continuity.
  • Primitive Boy Ryu:
    • Taka and Kiba are brothers, but when they were children, Taka was taken away by a neighbouring tribe in exchange for food and water. As a result Taka has no recollection of him. However, they have the same hair, jawline and facial structure, so it's not hard to piece together they are siblings.
    • An unusual case with Esta. When Ryu was born, he had white skin, which meant that he was to be put to death. Esta's reaction implies that she had no way of knowing her son would be born with pale skin. We never see Ryu's father, but Esta has various dreams of how her son would look like if she knew him, which coincidentally are completely accurate to how he really looks like. This implies that Esta was able to correctly deduce which features of his father he inherited. For reference here is Ryu and here is Esta.
  • The Prince of Tennis:
    • Kaoru Kaidou looks almost identical to both his younger brother Hazue and his father Shibuki, with the two of them essentially being older and younger versions of him. The notes to Shin Tenipuri make the resemblance between Kaoru and Hazue even stronger since Hazue plays tennis too and will apply to Seigaku Junior High once he's old enough, meaning that he now actively aims to be more like his older brother.
    • Kunimitsu Tezuka looks a lot like both his father Kuniharu and his grandfather Kunikazu in the manga. Much more the latter than the first, though, as Kuniharu is a Nice Guy but both Grandpa and grandson are The Stoic.
    • Though more subtle, Ryoma definitely shares his father Nanjirou's eyes and intensity.
  • Double Subversion in RaButa. Harundo and Natsuya look almost nothing alike (though Kurume can tell they're related because they have "a similar aura"). However, they looked very similar before Harundo's accident.
  • Ranma ½:
    • Girl-type Ranma, color of hair and eyes aside, is almost identical to her mother Nodoka. Unfortunately for him, Nabiki decides to point this out at the most inopportune moment, specifically when he's trying to pass himself off as Akane's cousin in order to avoid fulfilling a rather nasty ritual suicide pact.
    • Cologne, Shampoo's great-grandmother, is shown to have looked (and sounded) quite similar to Shampoo in her youth.
    • On a sibling level, Tatewaki and Kodachi Kuno strongly resemble each other — the narrow, haughty eyes; longer noses; and more pointed faces, as well as similarly fluffy hair (only with Kodachi having her side ponytail). Give one of them the other's hair color, and they'd practically be twins.
  • Remy: Nobody's Girl:
    • Mrs. Mulligan has blonde hair and blue eyes, just like Arthur. Remy also has her eyes.
    • Nana and Anna Barberin both have deep, red hair.
  • Rosario + Vampire:
    • Kurumu, Mizore and Yukari look very similar to their mothers. The manga shows that Tsukune got his face from his mother. The most bluntly example is Outer Moka who looks exactly like her mother Akasha Bloodriver. Justified, Outer Moka is a personality created by the rosario which is invented by Akasha to protect Inner Moka. And thanks to Art Evolution, Inner Moka looks now very similar to her outer personality and her mother.
    • Moka's older half-sister looks very similar to her mother Gyokuro, just having longer and curled hair and not having an evil expression in her face. However, this trope is inverted with Kokoa, Gyokuro's second biological daughter. Kokoa has red hair, light skin and (for some reason) green eyes, she looks nothing like her mother or her father who has black hair.
  • Sailor Moon:
    • Usagi and Chibi-Usa are very similar (except for the hair colors; episode 31 of SuperS pokes fun at this when the two of them switch ages), and the few glimpses of the series' parents have them looking nearly identical to their daughters. In the manga, Minako and Usagi's entire families are copies of each other, which wouldn't be so jarring if the 'newer' plot didn't force Usagi to resemble her mother in a past life, meaning she doesn't look like her modern family at all (however, neither does Usagi's younger brother Shingo).
    • The parody manga Parallel Sailor Moon introduces daughters of the four Guardian senshi, who look exactly like their mothers and have the same names.
    • The manga also shows Ami Mizuno's mother Saeko, who is basically an older and more sophisticated-looking Ami.
  • Souma Saiki of Sakura Gari looks like his beautiful mother, an late Englishwoman named Abigail, to the point where all he has to do is grow out his hair and wear her shawl to look near exactly like her.
  • In Sakura Trick, Mitsuki is just an older Yuu with long hair and glasses. Same hair color gradient, same eyes, she even has identical flowers in her hair. Lampshaded by Haruka in episode 5a, but Haruka didn't notice... Mitsuki is crushing on her just like Yuu does.
  • Likewise, Fuyuki's mother Aki in Sgt. Frog looks mostly like him, and was lampshaded in a Fountain of Youth episode with predictable results. (The fiery-tempered Natsumi, meanwhile, gets stuck with red hair).
  • The eromanga Sex Warrior Pudding has an incredibly bizarre case of this where the mother of titular heroine Nishimura Pudding, Nishimura Miruku (Milk), looks and sounds the literal same as her daughter (voice inflection, hairstyle, body shape and height, everything) where the only way to tell them apart is the small mole that Miruku has right under one of her eyes (that is if their completely different personalities don't tip you off)—which Miruku takes full advantage of when the male protagonist visits her to set her daughter up to finally tie the knot with him by hiding that mole with makeup and momentarily pretending to be her daughter while seducing him before handing him off to her unsuspecting daughter (but failing in the process for various reasons). She later pulls this again when her daughter ends up sick and impersonates her to cover for her at work for a day with no one the wiser save the male protagonist when she slips up once.
  • Soul Eater:
    • Even at thirteen Black Star resembles his father rather strongly, although this flashback was based on Sid recalling what White Star was like because his son's behaviour had become so similar.
    • When he isn't sporting his trademark Slasher Smile, Kishin Asura's resemblance to his little brother Death the Kid is startling. This is justified since both of them are actually "fragments" of Shinigami that he removed from himself. We never see whether Shinigami himself is capable of adopting a similar 'human' look.
  • In the Stitch! anime's reunion episode with Lilo, it's revealed that the series was a Time Skip all along and Lilo had an identical-looking daughter in the time that's passed since she and Stitch went their separate ways.
  • In The Story of Perrine, Perrine Paindavoine inherited her mother Marie's looks and her father Edmond's hair/eye scheme.
  • In Strike the Blood, Reina has the same face as her mother Yukina with her father Kojou's eyes, allowing her to briefly fool the others into believing she is Yukina. The only way to really tell them apart is that Reina's hair is black and Yukina's is brown, and Reina has larger breasts.
  • In Summer Days with Coo, Coo the Kappa and his father look pretty much the same, only different sizes.
  • In The Summer You Were There, both Kaori Asaka and her younger sister Shiori are petite brunettes, although Shiori has shorter hair than Kaori. Upon visiting the Asaka home for the first time and seeing Shiori at the door, Shizuku notices the resemblance and sees Shiori as "a mini Kaori."
  • Sword Art Online: Though Happily Adopted, Yui looks weirdly like a child Asuna with Kirito's hair color. She even has a similar hair style to Asuna, making her being their "daughter" ironic. This may mean she purposefully or subconsciously sculpted her avatar to look like that when she broke out of Cardinal to find them. Although it's not brought up in the main series, Kirito and Asuna do notice this in Hollow Fragment.
  • Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann:
    • The anime weird version with Lordgenome and Nia, who look nothing alike as they are in the series, but the canon "Parallel Works 8" shows Lordgenome used to be a cute boy and basically a male version of Nia. Seriously. During the period Nia had short hair, she looked almost exactly like her father did when the Anti-Spirals first attacked Earth.
    • Rossiu as an old man also looks uncannily like Magin, the priest of Adai, leading to WMG as to whether or not they're related (it's never clarified in the show either way).
    • Although he's only seen in a short flashback his son has in the second episode, Simon looks a lot like his father, Takeshi, especially in the Distant Finale. Like his son, he also had blue hair, and by the time Simon is an adult, the two also have similar hairstyles.
  • Tokyo Ghoul is quite good about relatives resembling each other, sometimes making it an important clue.
    • The members of the Kirishima family strongly resemble each other, allowing people to automatically recognize Ayato as Touka's brother. The siblings also look quite a bit like their parents, with Touka basically a darker-haired version of her Missing Mom. Their maternal uncle, Yomo, also looks quite a bit like his nephew.
    • The members of the Washuu Clan, including the illegitimate ones, resemble each other. It's the first clue that Yoshitoki, Furuta, Arima, and Rize are all siblings. The Bastard Bastard of the family begins using his strong resemblance to his older brother to his advantage, mimicking his mannerisms and presence in order to convince people to follow him.
  • Ichigo of Tokyo Mew Mew looks like her mother, Sakura. She's basically just Ichigo's head on a sliiiiiiiiiiightly more mature body.
  • Extremely strong version seen in Upotte!!, with Jisuri and her sisters Empi, 33, and Gossan. This is because almost all of Heckler & Koch's product line during the Cold War was derived from the G3 battle rifle (the HK33 is a G3 in 5.56mm, the MP5 is a G3 shrunk into submachinegun size firing 9mm, the HK53 is essentially an MP5 that fires 5.56mm...)
  • Mendou’s father from Urusei Yatsura looks like a slightly older version of him with a mustache; he even has the same hairstyle.
  • V.B.Rose: The Arisaka gene is so strong that the males look so much like each other that their mothers struggle to find remnants of their genes in their children.
  • In the original Vampire Hunter D movie, Count Magnus Lee is impaled by D in the final battle. As Lee is dying, he glances at a portrait of the Vampires' Sacred Ancestor Count Dracula and notices D's uncanny resemblance to it. Lee spends his last moments asking D if he is related to Dracula.
  • In Vampire Knight Yuuki is nearly identical to her mother Juuri to the point that Rido wants to use her as a replacement for Juuri, his sister who he was in psychotic love with and Kaname looks almost exactly like Haruka, their father. But then again, this is actually more a case of Haruka being an Identical Grandson, because Kaname is really The Ancestor and Haruka his great-grandson. This is somewhat justified in the fact that their parents were siblings as well, and given that their family tree doesn't fork for many generations, genetic traits would be passed down far more obviously.
  • Voltes V:
    • Kenichi has his Kentaro's hair and facial structure.
    • Hiyoshi has his mother's brown hair colour.
    • Prince Heinel's father was also a Bishōnen like him, and had his eyes. He also has his mother's horns and reddish hair colour (though his teeters on blonde).
  • Wandering Son:
    • Nitori looks a lot like her older sister, Maho. As models in elementary they even said they could pass for twins. When Nitori grew her hair out into a bob they looked near identical.
    • Makoto also looks a lot like her mother. When she bemoans her looks, her mother ends up offended because she sees it as also an insult upon herself due to their resemblance.
  • In the Warrior Cats (manga) manga A Clan In Need, Ravenpaw notices that two villainous cats look like larger, meaner versions of Barley. They're Barley and his sister Violet's brothers.
  • Your Name: Mitsuha looks a lot like her deceased mother Futaba, especially once she becomes an adult. Played for Drama as the novelization makes it clear that the resemblance did her grieving father Toshiki no favors in the days following the loss, while Another Side: Earthbound mentions at the end that, on seeing her entering his office to retry getting him to evacuate Itomori, Toshiki is reminded of Futaba's last words that her death was not farewell.
  • In Yotsuba&!, Miura looks exactly like her mother. This is lampshaded by Yotsuba and later by Mr. Kowai and Jumbo. Miura disagrees.
  • Tetsuo from Yuureitou is shown to have an uncanny resemblance to his deceased, biological mother. It's a plot point. His father Marube finds him attractive due to their resemblance, made worse by the fact he knows they're related and doesn't care.
  • Yugi Mutou of Yu-Gi-Oh! greatly resembles his grandfather, whose design can be described as essentially a grey-haired and wrinkled copy-paste of Yugi's own face.
