  • April: Judge system formally established by Eustace Fargo, who is appointed first Chief Judge. The Judges immediately begin to cripple gang activity across the U.S (Judge Dredd)
  • July 3: New York taxi driver Harry Canyon rescues a redheaded woman from a gangster trying to steal the Loc-Nar. Harry and the woman later have sex. (Heavy Metal)
  • July 4: After previously agreeing to split the money with Harry Canyon after selling the Loc-Nar to Rudnick (who gets melted by it), the redheaded woman double-crosses Harry. He disintegrates her in self-defense, and summarizes the events as a "two-day ride with one hell of a tip." (Heavy Metal)

  • Earth forces battle the Invid. (Robotech)
  • Yuji Kaido awakened from cryogenic sleep to an Earth overrun by the insectoid Blue. (Blue Gender)

  • The USS Admiral Peary arrives at Tau Ceti and the Race's homeworld, Home. In its efforts to secure diplomatic relations as well as human sovereignty, it ignites a cultural upheaval among the Race only exacerbated months later with the arrival of the faster-than-light USS Commodore Perry.   • After a bloody series of energy wars spearheaded by the rise and defeat of neo-fascist political groups who attempt to control the world's remaining energy supplies for the benefit of a select few, humanity discovers radical new sources of power. Among them is a tachyon generator which enables humanity to travel backwards in time, which is tightly regulated and kept top secret from the public in order to prevent abuse.   • June 3: The wall around Kemo City is completed and the only exit is sealed shut, turning Kemo into a city-sized prison. (Quarantine)
  • September: The seaQuest returns to a much less politically stable Earth. (SeaQuest 2032)
  • October 19: The command module of the Ares IV, containing the mission commander John Kelly, is engulfed by a graviton ellipse in orbit of Mars. The module is later discovered by the crew of the U.S.S. Voyager in 2376. (Star Trek: Voyager)
  • The pacifist utopia of San Angeles has been established. John Spartan is thawed out to stop his old enemy Simon Phoenix. (Demolition Man)

  • Project Gestalt is revealed to the public as a solution to the spread of White Chlorination Syndrome. Wealthy citizens are the first to undergo Gestaltization and are put into stasis, while androids supervise non-sentient Replicants who are tasked with battling the remaining Legion and cleansing the world of WCS. Both planes are rejected in favor of the automated drone fighter Ghost X-9. However, "virtual idol" Sharon Apple develops a malicious consciousness and takes over the Ghost as well as the decommissioned SDF-1 Macross.   • January 1:

    • On the day that the Maximum Era is set to begin, the Madison family is sealed inside Cyberville behind an impenetrable plasma dome, and their corporate headquarters is destroyed by the Phantom. more Justification (Phantom 2040)
  • January 2: The Madisons escape Cyberville and ally with Gorda in an attempt to seize control of Metropia. (Phantom 2040)
  • Early: Vagrants begin moving into the abandoned Cyberville. Biot self-awareness spreads thanks to the actions of Heisenberg and Pavlova. (Phantom 2040)
  • The future looks a lot like three years from now. (Time Chasers)
    • As the result of time travel being used towards evil purposes, the future looks like a back alley in any major US city. (Time Chasers)
  • The Earth gate loses its lock on the gate headed towards Alpha Centauri. While reestablishing the lock, the scientists in charge of the project discover that the gate is randomly locking onto random locations throughout the galaxy. These locations are discovered to be jumpgates of alien origin. The Ancients take notice, and adjust their long-term plans according to their determination that humans are dangerously intelligent. They reconfigure the gate system to isolate humanity within a maze of sectors devoid of intelligent life. (X-Universe)
  • In the last two seconds of a basketball game between the New York Knicks and Phoenix Suns, Charles Barkley performs a Chaos Dunk, killing nearly all in attendance. The ensuing Great B-Ball Purge sees most professional basketball players hunted down and slain, and the sport itself is banned. (Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden)
  • Spiked hair and acid-washed jeans are fashionable. Most of the top-selling songs are covers of 1980s pop music. Wade Watts discovers a hidden caravan in a junkyard which he uses as a hideout. (Ready Player One)
  • Rebecca Madison and Gorda attempt to seize control of Cyberville through the use of self-spreading nanobiots. The attack is defeated by the Phantom, and the 23rd Phantom's memories are uploaded to the Phantom Chronicles more. Rebecca Madison and Gorda are finally imprisoned, while Maxwell Madison Jr is placed in psychiatric care and Hubert Graft in rehabilitation. (Phantom 2040)

2042

  • The last World Series, an annual baseball championship game, is played on Earth. Only 300 spectators attend the game, indicating the decline in the popularity of the sport has reached a critical point. The history of professional baseball effectively ends this year. (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine)
  • RobCo Industries is founded by Robert House. With his technical genius and business acumen, it will become one of the world's most lucrative corporations. (Fallout: New Vegas)
  • As a goodwill gesture to their former mutant allies, GDI sends G-330X habitat modules to the borders of the Red Zones. (Command & Conquer: Tiberium Wars)
  • Earth has few international political problems anymore, and environmental issues are slowly getting under control. Unmanned probes are sent through to the alien gates; results are promising but unsatisfying, since the probes aren't intelligent enough. The United Nations agrees to send a manned probe posthaste. Construction begins on the Winterblossom spacecraft the next year. (X-Universe)
  • The mysterious being known as "Grandmaster Meio" appears on Earth and, taking advantage of its war-torn state, takes over the Eastern side. Setting up in the capital city of St. Petersburg, he wages war in order to conquer the entire planet. (Strider Arcade)
  • James A. Corry kills someone in self-defense. Nevertheless, he is convicted of murder and sentenced to 50 years solitary confinement on an asteroid. (The Twilight Zone (1959))
  • The First Avarice Scandal - The Association of Victims of Avarice Crimes (AVAC) is founded by Yujin Oh. He also coins the term "Avarice Crime" after his reports against Hon Hwang, who was found to have owned and exploited 300 people enslaved with Potato Chips ("Chippies"). (No Umbrellas Allowed)

  • March 8: Max Paradys and Albert Starski awaken from suspended animation, 50 years later than planned, to find that all men have died and the world is entirely populated by women. (Sex Mission)

  • The Charybdis is destroyed by an unknown alien; Stephen Richey is the sole survivor. The aliens create an artificial environment for him, in which he lives until his death. (Star Trek: The Next Generation)
  • Pir-hana is formed from the merger of Brazilian companies Pir and Hana. more (WipEout)
  • John-Caleb Bradberton creates Nuka-Cola, which becomes an overnight success, despite containing excessive amounts of caffeine and 120% of the recommended daily allowance of sugar. The Nuka-Cola Corporation begins an aggressive campaign to conquer the American soda market, with few rival companies, such as Sunset Sarsparilla and Vim!Pop, surviving buyout attempts and corporate sabotage.
