  • ALTER EGO (2018): The Façade is the name Es uses to refer to Ego Rex. While never outright stated, the reason is probably because Es sees Ego Rex's rule-abiding stance as just a great farce.
  • Animal Crossing: Your neighbors will sometimes come up with nicknames for you. Some of them are independent and pre-programmed (such as "buddy" or "sparky"), but some of them are based on your name. (So if your name was "Andy," they might give you nicknames like "A-Dawg" and "A-Boss.")
  • Gunvolt from Azure Striker Gunvolt is almost universally referred to by his friends and associates as "GV". Even some of his enemies get in on it, though they're often using it in a mocking way.
  • Every character in the Backyard Sports series has their own nickname.
  • In Bear & Breakfast, Anni calls Margaret "Mrs. M", Beanie calls Oliver "Olly", while Wade calls his boss Anton "Mister A".
  • Each of the three main characters in Beyond Good & Evil has a canon nickname. Jade's is "Shauni," after her IRIS callsign. Double H's is "Hub," which the people of IRIS call him and may or may not be his real name. Pey'j's, which he gets only late-game, is "Chief," because he is.
  • BlazBlue:
    • Taokaka is quite The Nicknamer. Her repertoire contains "Boobie Lady,"note  "Lacking Lady,"note "Green Guy,"note "Ice Man,"note "Creepy Guy"note  and so on.
    • Ragna gets called "Raggy" and "Rags" by Hazama, "Good Guy" by Taokaka, "The Dark One" by Hakumen & "Man of the Azure" by Relius Clover.

  • Brutal Orchestra: The description for the trading card reveals that Bosch was the one who gave Trigger Fingers his nickname, and it is not flattering.
  • In the North American version of Chrono Cross, certain children from your village will add a "Y" to whatever you choose to name yourself. This worked fine for most names, but created a rather odd looking/sounding name if what you put in ends with an O or a Y, resulting in names like "Marcoy" or "Tonyy."
  • Civilization VI: The Civilopedia notes that the Humongous Mecha unit is properly called the Gunnery Deployment Rig, but everyone, including the game itself, calls it the Giant Death Robot.
  • When first meeting Zoya in "Episode 1: Threading" of Code 7, you don't get the option to tell her your name is Alex. Oddly enough, she never asks about it, either. Instead, she just decides to call you Bluescreen, since that's what she first sees when she notices you.
  • In Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus and Butterfly, Officer Jorji doesn't mind being called "Pops" by Lucas, while the latter calls Rachel "Rach".
  • In Devil Survivor, Yuzu and Atsuro do this to each other. He calls her "Yoohoo" to needle her and when she gets mad at him she calls him "Otakuro" to make fun of his otaku tendencies. Furthermore, you can chose a nickname for your protagonist, which will be used by Yuzu and Atsuro (other characters will use his real name, which you also chose).
  • Disgaea:
    • Vyers is almost exclusively referred to by his Laharl-provided moniker, Mid-Boss, by characters, fans, and the game itself — as soon as Laharl declares "Your new name is Mid-Boss," that's what appears as the header for his text boxes whenever he speaks.
    • Fuka in Disgaea 4 at some point begins to call Valvatorez and Fenrich "Valzy" and "Fenfen." While Valvatorez is indifferent, Fenrich hates his new moniker. Similarly, Vulcanus calls Valvatorez "Mr. Weirdo."
  • Doom: The Demon was nicknamed "Pinky", due to it's pink coloration. In Doom (2016), "Pinky" was established as an official nickname, as the creature is unnamed within Hell.
  • Dragon Age II:
    • Varric nicknames everyone but Hawke and Aveline. Anders is "Blondie," Merrill is "Daisy," Isabela is "Rivaini," Bethany is "Sunshine," and so on.
    • In the DLC Mark of the Assassin, Hawke finally asks Varric for a nickname and gets a different one depending on personality: "Waffles" for a Paragon Hawke (who is puzzled by it), "Killer" for a Ruthless Hawke (who is not amused), and "Chuckles" for Snarky Hawke (who likes it). He also dubs DLC guest star Tallis "Shivs."
    • He does it again in Dragon Age: Inquisition, giving nicknames to everyone in the inner circle except the Inquisitor. Cullen is "Curly," Dorian is "Sparkler," Josephine is "Ruffles," Iron Bull is "Tiny," and so forth.
  • Dragon Quest:
    • Dragon Quest V: In the DS version's party chat, the Hero tends to have different nicknames based on your bride of choice or other characters in the game. • Yangus constantly refers to the main character of Dragon Quest VIII as "Guv". Even Jessica called him by that name once when they were imprisoned.
  • The Elder Scrolls:
    • The Breton race is sometimes called "Manmer" due to their Man and Mer (Elf) mixed ancestry.

    • The Nords are sometimes referred to derogatorily as "snow men" or "sons of snow," after their Grim Up North homeland of Skyrim.
    • Members of the Senche and Senche-raht Khajiit sub-species are referred to as "battlecats," as they are quadrupeds the size of large tigers who allow their kinsmen to use them as steeds in times of war.
    • The Argonians are on both the receiving and giving ends of this. The Argonians get several of these from the other races, most of them derogatory, such as Lizard Men and just plain "Lizards." The word "filthy" often precedes them. The Argonians themselves often refer to the other races as "landstriders" (more politely) or "prey" (in a more negative sense).

  • In the English dub of Final Fantasy X, Rikku was fond of calling Yuna "Yunie."
  • Fire Emblem:
    • In Fire Emblem Fates, Xander often refers to Corrin as "little prince/little princess" with shades of Affectionate Nickname. However, in Birthright, it can go into Terms of Endangerment as Xander will still call Corrin that despite being very angry with them for siding with Hoshido.
    • In Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Byleth's students will call him/her "professor", as their name is customizable and of course, because they are their teacher. Claude however will call them "Teach" and Byleth's father Jeralt will call them "Kid". They're known as the "Ashen Demon" by those who fear Jeralt's mercenaries, due to their dark hair, lack of any sort of emotions, and extreme prowess in cutting down enemies.
  • In the Galaxy Angel gameverse, Milfeulle Sakuraba is mostly referred to as "Milfie" by her friends. It serves as part of her Establishing Character Moment; when Tact wants to be on a First-Name Basis with her and the rest of the Angels, she immediately allows him to call her Milfie if he wants to. Her younger sister Apricot in the Galaxy Angel II trilogy also counts, as she's mostly called "Rico" by the other characters.

Even after he stops being a Glitz Pit fighter, his Yoshi partner continues to call him "Gonzales." Then again, he was quite literally hatched in the pit, as he points out when saying goodbye to Mario in the ending.
  • While being called sempai is easily an honorific for the Persona 4 main character, he is called 'Sensei' by Teddie simply for his coolness factor. His Lancer Yosuke calls him "Partner". And the tie-in story "Drowning in Snow" has Kira referring to the Mighty Leap ability (a racial trait attributable to being part air elemental) as "Bahmi Bounce."
  • Pretty much all the Sun On Yee leaders in Sleeping Dogs (2012). "Big Smile" Lee, "Two Chin" Tsao, "Broken Nose" Jiang, "Dogeyes" Lin, "Pockmark" Cheuk, "Uncle" Po.... Outside the Sun On Yee, there's the Big Bad of the Nightmare At North Point DLC, known as "Smiley Cat" (much to his chagrin, as he'd much rather be known as "Big Scar" Wu), the aging freelance hitman Old Salty Crab, street racers Ace and Hotshot, the two drugs wholesalers "Four Finger" Wu and "Popstar", the all-round slimeballs "Ponytail" and "Johnny Ratface" and the owner of Ping's PC, who only gives her name as "Not Ping".
