Episode 1

Episode 2

  • In an effort to avoid getting a job to support the band, Bocchi offers to give Nijika and Ryo her piggy bank, explaining that her mother was saving up for her wedding. Nijika naturally declines the offer whereas Ryo remorselessly tries taking the piggy bank.
  • During the job discussion, Bocchi imagines herself as a cashier - sporting a deformed face which makes her look like a blobby fish and constantly trembling like a pile of jelly with a squeaky sound effect, unable to utter a single word. The Imagine Spot is accompanied by a gloomy piano score which only makes the scene funnier. The imagine spot ends with Bocchi getting sentenced to death for being unable to look the customer in the eye.

Episode 3

  • Bocchi's attempt to convince Kita to join Kessoku Band includes her claiming that the members are doing wild parties every day (not that Kita is interested in that), and she then asks Nijika and Ryo to bring energy drinks and blast loud EDM music at the live house, much to the two older girls' confusion. They do, however, bring the drinks at least.
  • When her efforts to evade her former bandmates fail, Kita prostrates herself on the ground and encourages them to rough her up. Ryo appears to consider the offer.
  • Ryo explains to Kita that she assumed she was dead so she would light incense for her every day.
Nijika: Don't just kill her off like that.
  • Before she rejoins Kessoku Band, Kita tells the other members that they should stop with their partying.
    Nijika: Who told you that?
  • After Bocchi convinces Kita to stay in the band in this clip, Bocchi tries to deflect it, but the animation style at the moment renders her in a crudely drawn form as it's shown that she clearly wants to be praised even further.
  • Kita then mentions that, compared to Bocchi, she still hasn't learned how to play the guitar because hers apparently makes a quiet "bum-bum" sound. The Kessoku girls immediately figure out what is wrong, and as it turns out, instead of a six-string guitar, Kita spent a lot of yen on a six-string bass since she didn't know that bass guitars can have more than four strings. One Delayed "Oh, Crap!" moment later, Kita sinks to the ground as the spirit coming out of her mouth bemoans the loss of two years' allowance and New Year's money combined.
  • Ryo buys off Kita's bass and gives her some money only to cryptically state that she would be eating weeds from now on. She later arrives at Starry actually eating some weedsnote .
Bocchi: [horrified] Sh-She really is eating weeds!
    Kita: [lovestruck] Senpai's so wild!

Episode 4

  • This entire clip, from when Kessoku Band is thinking about how to improve its reputation:
    • As Bocchi muses that the rest of the girls in high school have moved on to better lives while she remained an introvert, with only her class photos documenting her very existence, four photos of her at different ages are shown. In the latter two from when she was older, the lights in her eyes are gone.
    • To the bemusement of the others, Bocchi believes other high-school-aged introverts such as herself to be virtually nonexistent, and as such regards herself as a rare specimen like a Tsuchinoko, to the point of wriggling pathetically on the ground like one. The others respond to Kita's confusion by explaining this is normal for her.
    • Nijika and Kita then suggest that they should each make individual accounts on Isstagram. Horrified at the mere thought of having her own account, Bocchi glitches out in a manner some viewers have compared to cyberpsychosis while letting out a bloodcurdling scream, causing Kita to panic. The best part is that the glitchy shriek wasn't edited in any way; Bocchi's voice actress, Yoshino Aoyama, was able to produce that noise naturally.
    • As her internal narration describes how her low self-esteem and social media would not mix well, Bocchi imagines her tsuchinoko self transforming into an "Attention Whore Monster", which is essentially a gigantic chibi of her in a kaiju costume shouting for people to like her posts. Ironically, the city she destroys in said Imagine Spot is completely empty.
    • As Nijika and Kita call to the kaiju Bocchi that they're no longer going to push her onto social media, Ryo is visible off to the side, having apparently filmed the whole thing on her phone.
  • Bocchi tries practicing at being extroverted ("a cheery person") by putting herself in the mind of a party person and then pretending to be Kita. Meanwhile, her entire family is watching, thinking she might be possessed since it's so out of character for her.

Episode 5

Episode 6

  • The sheer fact that Bocchi considered selling one of her tickets to her dog, until her mother reminded her that it wouldn't be possible.
  • Kikuri claims that booze and bass are worth more to her than her own life, and that's why she always keeps them both close. However...
Bocchi: So... where is your bass?
Kikuri: I forgot it at a bar.
  • Kikuri then immediately runs to fetch it, dragging a bemused Bocchi with her.
Bocchi (thinking): She values her life so little!

Episode 7

  • Although some excuses that Ryo uses to avoid participating in group activities might be plausible to people who don't really know her better (including the one she used this time - that her grandma's health got worse), others are just downright ridiculous. Apparently, one time when she tried to avoid doing something, she claimed to have received a call from a twin sister, from whom she was Separated at Birth. While Nijika wonders why Ryo can't simply honestly say she doesn't want to do something, Kita has a slightly different reaction to this.
Kita: "Sempai's amazing! I love me a bad girl!"
  • When they arrive at Bocchi's house, she's wearing a party hat, star-shaped sunglasses, fake mustache and a sash with "Sergeant for the day" on it. She also pops a party popper in their direction, while awkwardly shouting "Yaay! We-welcome!".
  • While Bocchi's away getting drinks, Nijika and Kita get to meet her sister Futari and their dog Jimihen, and instantly get smitten by their cuteness. When Bocchi returns, she asks Futari to leave with Jimihen, because if they (well, Futari in particular) are there, Bocchi can't "whoop it up".
  • Michiyo and Naoki find it hard to believe that Bocchi actually has some real friends over until Futari takes them upstairs to see them. Even after that, they still have some doubts, claiming that even though Bocchi had the band photo, image editing software is so advanced nowadays, and they ask the other girls if they are from some friend rental service. Hearing all this, Bocchi admits to herself that she'd probably do that, but still finds it somewhat embarrassing to hear her parents say such things.
  • While having Bocchi wear different outfits, Nijika decides to do Bocchi's hair next. Upon touching her forehead, Bocchi turns to ash. As Nijika and Kita decide that they need a new guitarist, they inhale Bocchi's "ashes" and get infected by her pessimism.
Nijika: Forgive me for trying to face everything with positivity.
Kita: Forgive me for being a shitty guitarist. Forgive me for being too cute.

Episode 8

  • Seeing how desperate everyone is getting over the fact that a good portion of their audience won't be coming, Bocchi decides that it's up to her to "pump up" the gig, so she puts on her star-shaped glasses and fake mustache. Later, she wears a cardboard box over her upper body, with only her arms sticking out, while trying to encourage the other girls. In both cases, Nijika tells her to stop fooling around.
  • Ryo and Kita try restoring Bocchi's face to normal after her latest meltdown, but between Ryo botching things and Kita patching them up, Bocchi's left with a much longer chin than before.
  • Ryo praises Kita's performance, but calls her by her given name Ikuyo, causing the poor girl to break down in a Bocchi-like state of panic, first denying it's her name, then expressing her dislike of it, and after a mirthless laugh at the bad pun of Kita Ikuyo sounding like "I'm here, let's go!", she finally curls up into a ball and insists that her full name is Kita Kita. Ryo, meanwhile, is very amused by this.

Episode 9

  • Seika asks the girls if any of them have ever invited Bocchi to hang out. Kita apparently thought about it, but as she was hanging out with her friends outside of the band, she worried that Bocchi would "shrivel up and die" around people who are complete strangers to her. Nijika was busy with work at home or live house. And Ryo simply expected the other two to invite her. This makes them realise:
Kita, Nijika and Ryo: None of us spent the holiday with Bocchi?
Seika: Consider changing your band name.
  • Bocchi has just snapped out of her bored depression and is admiring the sea, when all of a sudden three random party animal guys show up out of nowhere and start inviting the girls to eat out. Bocchi reverts back to a state of panic, inflates like a balloon and then explodes.
    Nijika: Bocchi-chan just exploded!
  • Ryo tries to sell two of her basses that she pulls out from nowhere when she doesn't have money to pay for the escalator tickets.
  • Bocchi not only gets her ice cream ripped away from her, but she is also attacked by several birds. The next time Bocchi is seen she is in a Yamcha position down to being in a crater.

Episode 10

  • Kikuri is a walking CMOF this episode. When she drops by at Starry, she asks for a free booze, with Seika showing her a cold shoulder. She then tries to find comfort in Nijika, who shows her an even colder shoulder, so much that Kikuri actually starts freezing.
  • Kikuri gives the Kessoku Band members tickets for her band's show. When Kita and Nijika offer to pay for them, she rejects it, claiming that her band earns a lot. We then get this exchange.
Kikuri: Do you take me for a poor bandman who'd leech money off high school girls?
    Nijika: You mean you're not?
  • Then we find out that she does indeed tend to live off of others, as despite the fact that her band is succesful and earns a fair amount of money, almost all of it goes to repairs, because her drunk recklessness often makes her destroy things.
    • And then when Seika asks Bocchi if there's any more money that was indebted to her, she replies that was all that Kikuri owed to her... while glancing at Ryo, who sheepishly grows animal ears. Sure enough, Seika then makes both Kikuri and Ryo pay off their debts to Bocchi while in Seiza position.
  • Following her performance at Shinjuku Folt, after Kikuri breaks a wall and Gin-chan drops by to inform her that it will cost her 100,000 yen of damages, she tries to claim that Bocchi is partially responsible too, much to the poor girl's confusion.
  • While at a restaurant, the girls are discussing their upcoming school festival performance. Nijika, Kita and Bocchi all have food on their plates, while Ryo's stomach is wildly growling and her plate is empty. Kita suggests to share some of their food with her, but Nijika stops her, telling her that Ryo needs to learn a lesson for not returning Bocchi's money in time.
    Ryo: [with Puppy-Dog Eyes] Ikuyooo...
Nijika: [After seeing Kita attempt to actually share her food with Ryo] Kita! Do not fall for this sleazy bandmember! The three B's that one should never date are bassists, bassists and bassists, after all!
  • Nijika then takes pity on Ryo and offers her a single french fry. Ryo appreciates Nijika's kindness, which pulls at her heartstrings so hard that she feeds her an entire plate of french fries.

Episode 11

  • While Nijika, Ryo and Kita are trying to figure out where to find Bocchi, the scene transitions to a Japanese nature show with Kita describing the kind of environment where they can expect to find her, the sort of damp, depressing place where you might find slugs. After the opening, it turns out it actually worked.
  • The girls' reactions at the haunted house. Nijika and Kita are screaming in fright at the monsters trying to scare them, while Ryo and Bocchi just stare blankly, with Bocchi only reacting at somebody else's frightened screams.
  • The Kessoku Band members are finally at Bocchi's class' maid cafe, taking their orders. We learn that even though the menu tries to be fancy, it is pretty much all just omelet rice under various different names.
Bocchi: Seems like all of our budget went to maid uniforms.
  • After she brings them their food, Nijika and Ryo ask Bocchi to perform the yummification spell for them.
Bocchi: [in a monotonous voice, utterly embarrassed] Fluffy-wuffy pure pure miraculous omelette rice, be delicious!
    • In the anime, her "enthusiasm" takes physical form as a Cute Slime Mook with her Super-Deformed anxiety face on it, which impacts the omlette with a wet splat that sounds like she just threw mud at it through sheer force of despair.
    • Kita then decides to show Bocchi how the spell should be done. Her performance is like something straight out of Pretty Cure.
    • Even funnier, after Bocchi performs the spell, Ryo and Nijika are not exactly enjoying the meal, with Ryo calling it a bit dry. After Kita does the spell, Nijika is suddenly praising the omelette rice as if it were the best meal she ever had, while Ryo is chomping it down Pac-Man style.
  • Bocchi worrying about tomorrow's performance is portrayed as her undergoing Art Shift to the point where she's a low-poly, T-posed 3D model flying through the scene and crashing into a wall of white cubes.
  • After her bandmates help Bocchi's class with their maid cafe, Ryo demands that she gets paid. Luckily, Nijika stops her before she can make things more awkward. Ryo simply lets out a monotonous "Aaaaaa" as she is dragged away by Nijika.

Episode 12

  • After their School Festival performance is met with cheers and applause, Kita asks Bocchi for a few words for the crowd. Panicking, she decides to stage dive after a glance at Kikuri. Cue Bocchi kissing the floor.
  • Bocchi enters the guitar shop while wildly headbanging, making the staff think that she's a hardcore metal fan. They even inform her that guitars suited for metal are on the second floor.
  • While at the shop, Nijika feels isolated, so she suggests that she too might buy herself a guitar or a bass. Kita and Ryo then imagine super-muscular Nijika using a guitar and bass instead of drumsticks, prompting Nijika to protest that she'd play them normally.
  • Bocchi is so desperate to leave as soon as possible that once she pays for her new guitar, she instantly leaves - without the guitar.

Manga

  • In Chapter 9, after Seika explains that Kessoku Band isn't good enough to perform again, and needs to pass an audition first, Nijika gets angry and storms off while accusing Seika of still needing to sleep with a stuffed animal despite being in her thirties. The funniest part comes in the manga- Seika complains that she's only 29 and doesn't dispute the stuffed animal accusation.
  • Volume 5's extra chapter, which focuses on Seika and Nijika losing their mother and finally bonding as sisters, has some funny moments.
    • Seika tells her bandmates that she doesn't need anything else as long as she has them. Another one says that booze is all they need, and another says his "GF" is #1, so an annoyed Seika replies, "DROP DEAD!"
    • After Seika's band hears that they can perform at the highly exclusive "Rainy" venue, a male band member says he'll invite his girlfriend, and Rina snarks, "Devoted, ain'cha."
    • When Nijika and Seika's mother tells Nijika about how Seika shines when pursuing her dream, Nijika incredulously asks, "She shines?" while remembering (or at least imagining) Seika saying, "Hey shithead! I'm broke!"
    • Seika's bandmates apparently beat her up off-panel over her decision to leave the band to start a live house. Seika is actually grateful that Rina, who appears to be her best friend in the band, let her off with one punch.
