Go To

After his father's mistakes catch up to him Ranma's offered a job by Belldandy and Urd: to take on the role of heroes in other dimensions who have failed in their destinies. Sent into the One Piece Universe, his mind merges with Luffy's as a baby. What effect will a smarter, more battle-hardened Luffy with unheard of skills make in this screwed up world? Should be fun to find out!
Fanfiction Dot Net summary.

A One Piece and Ranma ½ Crossover story by Vimesenthusiast, a prolific author with many stories in many different fandoms. The story follows a reborn Ranma Saotome as Monkey D Luffy.

Can be read here on Fanfiction Dot Net.

This fic contains examples of the following tropes, in addition to those already present in the source material:

  • Abnormal Ammo: Vice Admiral Doberman flicks coins hard enough to put holes straight through a ship's mast.
  • Adaptational Badass:
    • Even though he never ate a Devil Fruit, Luffy is far stronger than canon due to remembering his past life as Ranma and being able to pull off all his martial arts moves. When he does eventually eat a Devil Fruit, it's one of the most powerful and potentially destructive fruits ever shown in canon: the Rumble-Rumble Fruit.
    • Makino, a civilian in canon, joins Luffy on his journey and due to training with both Luffy and Garp, knows Armament Haki and Rokushiki. She's traveling with Luffy to find Shanks and fulfill some unspecified goal, lampshaded by Nami.
Nami: Going into the Grand Line to find one of the Yonkou in order to...what, castrate, marry, yell at? Whatever her reasons, going to sea to find a Yonkou at all is crazy as hell!
    • Bellamy. While he is still treated as a joke, and Luffy is stronger than in canon physically, this time Bellamy doesn't go down in one hit, requiring a second one from Chopper.
    • An odd example where Enel - who was already one of the most dangerous opponents the Straw Hats faced in Canon - end up being even more powerful due to Luffy not being made of rubber. Luffy wins but is so badly injured that he SHOULD have been crippled for life and it was outright stated Luffy himself was surprised to wake up after the battle.
    • A similar example is Perona and her Negative Hollows. Without Usopp, the Straw Hats need their Haki to save their skins from her.
    • After Buggy kills X Drake, the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Allosaurus goes to Usopp who consumes it and gain the power to transform into a dinosaur in battle. While he ends up defeated, he still stands up to Akainu of all people for a moment afterwards.
    • Speaking of Buggy, he is this as well compared to his canon self being a Boisterous Weakling. He takes on Kuro and X Drake successfully.
    • Red-Hair Shanks now has both arms and the Gum-Gum Fruit, and knowing his canon skills, he could probably use the latter to its full potential.
  • Adaptational Curves: When the female Straw Hats decided to sunbathe in their bikinis, it is revealed that Makino has a toned body with six pack rock hard abs due to the result of undergoing physical training with Luffy and Garp.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Vice Admiral Doberman debuts after Alabasta rather than during the Buster Call on Enies Lobby.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Nami always was a kleptomaniac, but here she wants to steal even people from relationships.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
  • Adaptational Superpower Change: Minor but Basil Hawkins's devil fruit is based off voodoo rather than straw due to the details of his powers not being known at the time of writing.
    • Instead of the Gomu Gomu no mi and becoming a rubber man, Luffy eats the Goro Goro no mi. Becoming the new lightning logia user.
    • Shanks ate the Gum-Gum Fruit (in One Piece canon, it is actually the Human-Human Fruit, Model: Nika) and gained the power of using rubber.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Downplayed. Usopp is still mostly the same as canon but by happenstance, he joins the Buggy Pirates rather than the Straw Hats.
  • Adaptational Weapon Swap: After Usopp joined Buggy's crew, he swapped out his trademark slingshot with a sharpshooting rifle. Just like his father Yasopp.
  • Adaptational Wimp:
    • X Drake is considerably weaker than canon when he appears, presumably because Buggy encounters him so early in the Grand Line.
    • Played with: Nami is in a strange position. Her crew is teaching her part of the Rokushiki which makes her a tiny bit more physically imposing, but she is also missing her Clima-Tact due to Usopp being Demoted to Extra. As such while her survivability is higher, her actual combat power is drastically lower.
  • Adapted Out:
    • The Little Garden arc, and thus Dorry and Broggy, is skipped entirely.
    • The Davy Back Fight is similarly skipped with the Straw Hats simply beating up the Foxy Pirates.
  • Almighty Janitor: Defied. Whenever Nami tries to give orders to the crew, Luffy is quick to remind her that she has no authority over the crew outside of navigation. He emphatically rejects her demands that no one get into a fight on Jaya, citing both her lack of authority and that it's a stupid promise for them to make.
  • Ascended Extra:
    • Makino is the first crew member of the Straw Hats compared to canon where she remains a civilian bar maid.
    • Laki joins the Straw Hats after the Skypiea arc compared to canon where she opens a cafe with Conis.
    • Vice Admiral Gion, while a background character in canon, is a prominent antagonist in the Sabaody arc of this story.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Luffy's ability to analyze and adapt to other's fighting styles is so great that Aokiji initially thinks the pirate's Observation Haki is visibly improving during their fight. When later asked, Hina states Luffy's adaptability is his most dangerous trait.
  • Bait-and-Switch: The Vice Admirals are all darkly amused at Luffy panicking over Garp heading his way, right up until they learn Luffy's panicking because "Gramps is gonna kill [him]".
  • Bargain with Heaven: What places Ranma in Luffy's body is a deal he makes with Belldandy and Urd to resolve worlds where the hero inevitably fails in exchange for them giving his mother a new place to live and wiping away his debt. Though Ranma also insists he be able to remember each life, especially any applicable martial arts skills he takes up.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Nami attempting to steal Luffy from Robin infuriates him as it reminds him far too much of the likes of Kodachi and Shampoo from his original life.
    • Makino has some of these:
      • Do not mention Shanks or anything related to him within her earshot.
      • Do not call her old or her hips fat.
      • Do not display terrible fashion and ship design choices in front of her.
  • Black Comedy: After losing his eye against Kalifa, Chopper jokes that he'll be the first real pirate on the crew. Because he's the first one to have a proper pirate eye patch.
  • Bounty Hunter: Ranko spends the East Blue saga acting as a bounty hunter, turning in all the various pirates Luffy and company capture. Luffy admits the ruse won't last forever as someone will eventually realize "Ranko" appears only in places Luffy has been, but it helps build up cash in the mean time.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: Deconstructed. Sanji, as usual, which is fine when dealing with crew members and allies but when he attacks Zoro for attacking Hina (a female Marine Captain), the rest of the crew knocks him out and Luffy intends to "train" such behavior out of him.
  • Coitus Interruptus: The Franky family interrupts Luffy and Robin while they're having sex. As they duo are on their fourth round, Luffy merely beats them up rather than killing them like he would've if he and Robin were just getting started.
  • Combo Platter Powers: Luffy's Supernatural Martial Arts are viewed this way given the sheer breadth of his abilities, including throwing tornadoes at his enemies.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Kuro relies entirely on his claws when fighting, which leaves him completely outmatched when fighting Buggy whose Devil Fruit power allows him to be immune to slashing attacks.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle:
    • Buggy can't take damage from Kuro, so he destroys him.
    • Sanji, when he gets mad, destroys Absalom with ease.
  • Curb Stomp Cushion:
    • Foxy gets in several hits against Zoro but they don't actually do any significant damage. Once Zoro actually lands a blow, the fight's over near instantly.
    • Luffy manages to break several of Aokiji's teeth along with two of his ribs, but it's fairly obvious from the start that he's going to lose. Eventually, his plan is to cause enough trouble to make his crew not worth pursuing at the moment.
  • Cursed with Awesome: Ranma still has his Jusenkyo curse after reincarnating as Luffy. However Urd, who gave him the curse, forgot to include the water attracting portion of it. So while Ranma still changes gender with water, he can now stay either gender for several days at a time, something he uses to build a reputation as a female bounty hunter while still acting as a male pirate. Its usefulness comes around again when Ranma eats the Rumble-Rumble Fruit, as by virtue of his female body not being affected by his new devil fruit curse means she's the only devil fruit user that doesn't have to worry about drowning.
  • Cutting the Knot: Rather than participate in the Davy Back Fight, the Straw Hats (and Hina and her Marine subordinates) simply beat the crap out of the Foxy Pirates.
  • Death by Adaptation:
    • Both Basil Hawkins and X Drake are killed long before they become Supernovas. Hawkins is killed by Luffy/Ranma while Buggy is the one to kill Drake.
    • Blackbeard's entire original crew is wiped out by Ace during their battle.
    • The entirety of the CP9, minus Spandam, are killed while fighting the Straw Hat crew. Some are outright killed while others are knocked (or dumped) into the ocean while unconscious and heavily injured.
    • Tilestone is killed during the fight against the CP9.
    • Capone Bege and his Firetank Pirates got wiped out by Akainu after running into the Admiral.
    • Gecko Moria and Bartholomew Kuma are killed by Luffy who finally unleashes the Rumble-Rumble Fruit against them.
  • Demoted to Extra: Usopp is not a crew member in this telling. While he was not Adapted Out and IS still sailing on the Grand Line, he has much less focus than in the canon material, because he is Buggy's sniper instead.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Foxy tries to goad Luffy into a Davy Back Fight by calling him a coward if he refuses. Luffy doesn't bother and simply tells Zoro to kick his ass.
  • Didn't Think This Through:
    • Nami attempts to steal Luffy from Robin despite knowing how much they care about each other. All she accomplishes is alienating them both, with Robin remarking that she might've considered sharing if Nami had been up front about things.
    • The Marines try a Zerg Rush against Luffy but not only is he just as comfortable fighting large groups of enemies as single opponents, they often get in each other's way and his Conqueror's Haki lets him knock out almost all of the mooks at once.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Utilized by Hina in Skypiea. Unimpressed with how her men can barely move in the thinner air, she demands they jog across the beach behind her, promising swift punishment for anyone who can't keep up, all while wearing a fairly skimpy bikini.
  • Disappointed in You: Mihawk prefers not to duel with Shanks even though he didn't lose an arm because Shanks ate the Gum Gum Fruit and Mihawk see a duel with him as a disgrace to swordsmanship.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Big News Morgan makes a brief appearance at the auction where Franky buys Adam Wood, asking Nami if she knows anything about his dozens of news coos that went missing near Jaya.
  • Easy Logistics: Averted. The Straw Hat pirates regularly bring up not only the need to stay stocked on food and fresh water but also various bits and pieces to keep the ship in proper shape such as nails, metal, wood, cloth, and ropes. Tellingly, their reward from a village they saved from another pirate crew is in the form of supplies rather than money.
  • Elemental Rock-Paper-Scissors: The story exploits the trope in several occasions, even showing what happens when it's averted.
    • Due to the new version of Luffy no longer being a Rubber Human, even with all the improvements he has otherwise, including Haki, he still has a much harder time against Enel.
    • The story also shows that a well-prepared Ace, when fighting with strategy, can fight Aokiji and have a chance of winning due to the elemental advantage, even though Aokiji is still stronger and more experienced.
  • Enemy Mine:
    • Hina and her marines join forces with the Straw Hats for the duration of their stay on Skypiea, especially once Enel starts moving against them.
    • Attempted by the Galley-La workers, who assume that Kaku and Lucci (the latter of whom they don't recognize due to his devil fruit) are on their side because they're fighting the Straw Hats. They learn the hard way that Kaku and Lucci are their real enemies when the latter casually attacks through them to hit Zoro.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Buggy the Clown is disgusted with Kuro for not only running away from the pirate life like a coward, but also slaughtering his own crew. Buggy even states that Usopp is more of a man than him for willingly facing a pirate with nothing but a slingshot, just like Luffy in canon.
  • Everyone Has Standards: According to Luffy/Ranma in Stallion of the Line, sailing under false colorsnote  is despicable even for pirates.
  • Eye Scream: Kalifa gouges out Chopper's left eye in their fight.
  • The Fashionista: Despite wearing her trademark bar maid attire, Makino is this as she likes various beautiful outfits to wear for the occasion, as long as they are in good taste, to the point Nami teases her for acting like a high class lady.
  • Fatal Flaw: Greed for Nami. She can't help but try to steal things, even if it's a relationship with her captain.
  • Friend-or-Idol Decision: During her tribunal Hina has to repeatedly remind herself that she swore an oath when she joined the Marines. She has to follow it, even when it means giving out information on Luffy, whom she considers a friend.
  • Finishing Move: Luffy uses Raiuzu or Lightning Vortex of his Goro Goro no Mi to kill off an already beaten Kuma.
  • Friendly Enemy: By the end of the Skypiea arc, Hina's hostility towards Luffy is exclusively because it's her job. Otherwise, she and her men get along fairly well with the Straw Hats, including partying with them at one point. When they actually part ways, Hina realizes that she's dangerously close to actually befriending the Straw Hats.
  • Gender Bender: It's not Ranma if he's not changing genders with water, though unlike in his home universe, he doesn't attract water to cause the change. Also, Luffy still changes into Ranko, not a female version of Luffy.
  • Giver of Lame Names: The Marines' epithet for Ranko is "Red Hair" Ranko, something she protests by saying it makes it sound like she's connected to "Red Hair" Shanks.
  • Godzilla Threshold:
    • The battle against Aokiji is what convinces Luffy to eat the Goro Goro no Mi, having previously avoided it because the abilities it would grant wouldn't carry over to his next life.
    • When the marines attack Water 7 with a Buster Call, Iceburg threatens to seek out the protection of an Emperor if Sengoku doesn't call them off. That's what persuades Sengoku to stop.
  • Grew a Spine: Luffy here has about as much tolerance of Nami's antics as she has of his in canon. (Which translates to next to none)
  • Guns Akimbo: Makino is skilled at dual wielding two pistols with bullets that are infused with Armament Haki.
  • Hauled Before A Senate Subcommittee: After pursuing the Straw Hat crew against orders and later teaming up with them, Hina faces a tribunal over her actions, something she notes could very easily become a court martial.
  • Honor Before Reason: Chopper insists on healing even the marines that were previously fighting his own crew. In a positive spin, this seems to cause a crisis of faith in the marines healed and their superiors.
  • How Much More Can He Take?:
    • By the end of his fight against Enel, Luffy has completely exhausted his haki and ki reserves. After he regains consciousness, he expresses surprise that he ever woke up.
    • Zoro's fight against Kaku, Lucci, and Jabra sees all of them barely standing due to their massive number of injuries. Zoro in particular is stated to only be standing because he swore to Luffy that he would never lose again.
  • Hypocritical Humor: While at Water 7, Nami is quick to shut Chopper up when he almost mentions the large amount of gold they have, citing it's not something you advertise. After the gold is converted into cash, Nami starts playing with the money out in the open, such as fanning herself with a stack of bills. After being attacked three times by the thieves, Nami admits she had that coming.
  • I Am Not Left-Handed: After seeing Luffy use Haki, Crocodile takes their fight far more seriously.
  • I Have Your Wife: In his original life, Ranma and his mother were provided free housing so long as he kept working to pay off his debt to his numerous fiances. Both Ranma and Nodoka are fully aware she's functionally a hostage towards his good behavior.
  • I Heard That: The blonde woman Fullbody was dating calls out Makino for criticizing her appearance and mocked her for wearing a bar maid attire in retaliation.
  • I Owe You My Life: Invoked by Donquixote Doflamingo who saves Blackbeard from Ace but demands their service in return.
  • Idiot Hero: Deconstructed. In the first chapter, canon Luffy was used as an example of a universe where the hero will always eventually fail because he's too stupid to work around problems rather than just beating his head against a brick wall until it collapses.
  • In Spite of a Nail:
    • Despite skipping Little Garden, one of the crew still ends up in desperate need of a doctor, bringing the crew to Drum Island, though this time it's due to Vivi getting poisoned while fighting the Hawkins Pirates.
    • Despite not being a crew member of Luffy's Usopp is still sailing on the Grand Line. It's just he's on 'Buggy's crew' instead.
    • Even though Shanks didn't lose his arm this time, Mihawk refuses to duel with him as he see it as a disgrace to swordsmanship and that Shanks now uses his fists. Because he ate the Gum-Gum Fruit and became a Rubber Man.
    • Even though Ace is much more prepared for his fight with Blackbeard and even killed his crew members in revenge, he still gets captured because they fought on Jaya. The same Island Donquixote Doflamingo traveled to in canon during that time period to punish Bellamy.
  • It Amused Me: When Garp learned that Makino got ghosted by Shanks and wanted to personally go after him, he finds it hilarious which he decided to involve her in his brand of training with Luffy.
  • Knight Templar Big Brother: When Luffy and Ace find out Makino is wearing a belly dancer outfit courtesy of Sanji, they do not appreciate Sanji being a pervert towards their sister figure.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em:
    • Most of Ranma's fiances gave up on claiming his hand in marriage and settled for a class action lawsuit against his family.
    • Captain Hina's men initially try to fight the Straw Hats after following them up the knock up stream, but once it's clear the pirates are there to help and the marine vessel can't be saved, they promptly surrender.
    • Sengoku calls off the Buster Call attacking the Straw Hats on Water 7 as they're quickly headed for a Pyrrhic Victory that will be even more costly in the long run due to the World Government losing access to Water 7's shipwrights.
    • The CP9 say as much when they refuse to attack an auction house just to take down Franky and some of the Straw Hat pirates. Said auction house has Big Mom's jolly roger on the doors and no rookie crew, no matter how dangerous, is worth angering an Emperor over.
  • Lame Pun Reaction: When Luffy wonders what does Eye-Lashes, a camel, see in women, Makino responds with "their humps". Cue to the Straw Hats groan or boo at her.
  • Logical Weakness:
    • Basil Hawkins voodoo dummies take time to set up and require a living target; as a result, anyone who can bring overwhelming offense to bear against him such as Luffy's Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs will quickly exhaust his defense and leave Hawkins vulnerable.
    • Kumadori's fighting style relies heavily on manipulating his hair. Despite being vastly outclassed by the government agent, Mozu and Kiwi are critical in defeating him via chopping off most of his hair with their swords.
  • Malicious Misnaming: Luffy calls the World Government as "Wee Gee" and soon his fellow Straw Hats are following suit.
  • Man of Kryptonite: Buggy the Clown is unstoppable against Kuro due to being immune to cutting attacks.
  • Massive Multiplayer Crossover: Back in his home universe, Ranma also had encounters with Belldandy and Urd along with having once been engaged to Ami Mizuno.
  • Megaton Punch: Whitebeard lands a punch that uses his Fruit, Armament Haki and Advanced Conqueror's Haki on an enemy. It's enough to break the teeth of his target, even though it's Shepherd Ju Peter, one of the Five Elders, who was on guard.
  • Mistaken for Prostitute:
    • Urd's comments about "making his dreams come true" have Ranma assuming she's some sort of magical hooker.
    • The blonde woman who's Fullbody date believes Makino is one and mocks her if her dockside shore prostitute outfit is in the wash.
  • Mundane Utility: In his original life, Ranma used his Martial Arts and Crafts in construction work to help pay off the settlement he owes to his many former fiances. His boss notes Ranma should be rich off his skills but so much of his pay goes towards his debt that he and his mother are barely getting by.
  • No-Sell: Sanji negates Blueno's attempts to disable his limbs via turning them into doors with his Devil Fruit by pulsing Armament Haki through the affected limbs. Similarly, Gion uses Armament Haki on her sword so Kid won't steal it.
  • Normal Fish in a Tiny Pond: Luffy and Makino end up this way to varying degrees. Both have some level of skill in the main variations of haki along with rokushiki while still sailing in the East Blue. Even though Makino only has enough Haki to coat her hands and only for a few seconds, and is nowhere near as skilled with Rokushiki as Luffy (or any of CP9), she's still pretty much unstoppable in the East Blue while being a decent fighter in Paradise. Luffy on the other hand is far more skilled with Armament Haki (though he has little skill with Observation) and Conqueror's Haki on top of using all of the Rokushiki with ease. All of that on top of being a sorta reincarnation of Ranma Saotome (and thus knowing all his techniques) puts makes Luffy incredibly dangerous even in Paradise, though he has to actually work for his victories, especially since some matchups are actually harder than in canon.
  • Not Me This Time: Ivankov is initially blamed for Luffy turning into a girl until they learn he changes genders with water due to also being Ranma.
  • Old Shame: Hina does not like to be reminded of her old pin up model pictures for the Navy calendar when Luffy brings it up during their fight in Alabasta.
  • Out of the Frying Pan: Grap has quit the Marines, so the War of the Best seems to be much easier for the pirates, right? Wrong. With such a big gap in the forces of the Marines, one of the Five Elder Stars, Shepherd Ju Peter, joins the fight personally.
  • The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: Zigzagged. The Straw Hat pirates still don't attack civilians but they steal plenty from bounty hunters, Marines, and other pirates. Besides looting Whiskey Peak, their first ship was Buggy's and their second (which they stole because Buggy's was too big for less than twenty people to man outside of calm waters) was Smoker's. Lastly, when Robin joins the crew early, Luffy offers that if King Cobra won't allow her to read Alabasta's poneglyph as a reward for saving his country, they'll simply have to "convince" him to let her read it.
  • Pragmatic Villainy:
    • Doflamingo saves Blackbeard because he realized how useful their Devil Fruit would be.
    • Blueno and Nero refuse to attack the Straw Hat pirates during an auction because the auction house has Big Mom's jolly roger on it. While Kumadori initially tried to insist they press on, both of the other agents outright state that no rookie crew is worth angering one of the Emperors over.
    • Sengoku agrees with Iceburg to call off the Buster Call on Water 7 as the marines will need the officers involved for the coming war against Whitebeard.
  • Quality over Quantity: The Foxy Pirates have a massive crew but are easily defeated by Hina, Sanji, Laki, and Fullbody.
  • Relationship Upgrade: Luffy and Robin become an Official Couple while on Jaya.
  • The Scapegoat: Capone Bege and his crew are blamed for the attack on Iceburg and the Straw Hats due to being a pirate crew that wears suits, like the CP9 (the actual culprits), and having been in the area just a couple weeks prior. This upsets Bege when he reads the newspaper about it.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: When it came to light just how many fiances Ranma had and that they were filing a class action lawsuit against him, Genma fled and the Tendos called off their engagement.
  • Sequel Escalation: In Ranma ½ canon, Ranma had three official fiances plus the occasional one-off character from time to time. In the backstory of Stallion, it's revealed that Genma had sold Ranma's hand in marriage hundreds of times.
  • Serious Business: Foxy is furious that Luffy would refuse to fight him personally, citing that when two crews fight, it's tradition that the captains fight each other. Luffy responds that Foxy isn't worth the time it'd take to beat him.
  • Shoot the Bullet: Makino shoots nearly every bullet fired at Zoro out of the air when he fights Foxy.
  • Shown Their Work: The story is filled with not only sailing jargon and techniques but also brings up the various strengths of different ship types (such as the superior speed of schooners). Particularly noteworthy is that unlike the popular in fiction strategy of exchanging broadsides, naval battles tend to see ships attempting to "cross the T"note . Likewise one might be able to sail a given ship with only ten sailors but still need several dozen more to man cannons, board enemy vessels, or fight off boarding parties.
  • Simple, yet Awesome: Nico Robin at one point uses her power to load and fire all of the Straw Hat cannons at once, by herself being far more efficient than the rest of the crew combined. She later uses it to spam Rankyaku against Fukuro.
  • Spanner in the Works: The Straw Hats ruin Kuro's plans without ever encountering him because they got into a fight with the Black Cat pirates at sea and captured them. As a result, Kuro himself is easily beaten by Buggy.
  • Spit Take: Shanks does this when he found out from Dracule Mihawk, who's on the receiving end of the sake to the face, that Makino is a member of the Straw Hats, wondering why she is with Luffy. Unfortunately, this provokes Mihawk into attacking him.
  • Strong and Skilled: Luffy is a sorta reincarnation of Ranma Saotome with all his memories and skills on top of knowing Rokushiki and having some skill with Haki. Unlike canon Luffy who is forced to flee from Smoker until after the timeskip, here Luffy only has trouble the first time they fight because he doesn't want to resort to Haki. By the end of Alabasta, Luffy takes down a Vice Admiral with only moderate trouble.
  • Tears of Remorse: Nami starts crying while apologizing to both Robin and Luffy for trying to steal Luffy away from Robin.
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill: Robin defeats Fukuro by surrounding him with hundreds of legs that all attack him with Rankyaku at the same time.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Aokiji is rather put out that Luffy demonstrates the ability to use Armament Haki as it means he has to put in actual effort to fight the Straw Hats.
  • Throw-Away Guns: Makino has several spare guns inside her pouch to discard and draw in battle. Mr. 2 lampshades that when he fights her.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Besides the Straw Hats growing stronger, Hina's subordinates also become tougher during the Skypiea arc with a note during their fight against the Foxy Pirates that they were all more than twice as strong as before. It's shown by their good performance during said fight.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Nero underestimates the Straw Hats despite knowing that half of them can use Haki, simply because he doesn't realize just how much Haki outclasses Rokushiki.
  • Villain Forgot to Level Grind: Smoker can't beat Luffy when they first meet but his powers are unusual enough that Luffy has to work for his victory if he doesn't want to use Haki. However, despite Luffy warning him to, Smoker doesn't pick up any new tricks and uses the same tactics in subsequent encounters, causing Luffy to defeat him with ease each time. Contrast Hina who changes her tactics since not only do her normal ones not work, but Luffy's already seen them and would have counters prepared. Luffy at one point asks if he can have Hina chasing him instead since she keeps things interesting.
  • Wakeup Makeup: Averted. After Ranma and Robin spend the night together. The next morning they go to kiss but are promptly repulsed by each other's morning breath, especially since they'd been drinking heavily the night before.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Despite Sanji being far stronger than he was in canon, Blueno gives him a good fight by virtue of abusing his Devil Fruit and deliberately fighting Sanji in an area that would hamper his mobility.
  • Willfully Weak: At Water 7, Ranma holds back from obviously using his Devil Fruit powers because the rest of the crew isn't strong enough to fight the sort of enemies such a display would draw.
  • Woman Scorned: Makino was in a relationship with Shanks when he was in Foosha Village. She didn't take his departure well and is sailing with Luffy to meet him again.
  • World's Strongest Man:
    • A past user of Robin's fruit was the strongest Rokushiki user to ever live, as he could grow countless extra limbs to launch multiple Rokushiki attacks simultaneously.
    • Whitebeard naturally, just like in canon.
  • You Are Fat: Bon Clay makes an offhand remark on Makino's hips being fat after she makes a deal with him. Big mistake.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Kuro has roughly this reaction, though much angrier when he learns the Black Cat pirates were captured shortly before the scheduled attack on Syrup Village.
