Do It Yourself Theme Tune / Anime

Go To

Because the networks and studios notice that pop music and youth-centered stories are "in", this happens a lot in anime to the point where some companies won't hire voice actors unless they can sing as well.

By Voice Actor

  • Repeatedly by Aya Hirano, best known as the voices of Haruhi and Konata from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Lucky Star, respectively. She performed both the OP and ED for Haruhi (and as Haruhi), and along with the other members of the main cast, did the OP to Lucky Star too.
    • Also played with within the universe itself with Mikuru being made to sing the theme song for the very amateurish SOS brigade movie, "The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina."
    • For the the second season of Haruhi, Hirano sings the new ending "Tomare" as Haruhi, but she sings the new intro "Super Driver" in her own voice.
  • Maaya Sakamoto does this a lot. She even did this for her first major role in The Vision of Escaflowne.
  • Megumi Hayashibara
    • She does most if not all the opening and ending themes for Slayers, either solo or with another singer.
    • She also does the opening for Slayers' sister franchise Lost Universe
    • The ending theme to the final episode of the third season, "Somewhere in the World," is sung by Houko Kuwashima, Filia's voice actress.
    • Ditto for Saber Marionette J, though castmates Akiko Hiramatsu (Bloodberry), Yuri Shiratori (Cherry), and Ai Orikasa (Baiko) take turns for the ending themes of the second season.
    • She also does this in Shaman King (in both the original 2001 anime and the 2021 remake) in which she voices Anna.
  • Nana Mizuki does this a lot, with examples including Blood-C (endings), Dog Days (openings), Rosario + Vampire and Symphogear (openings), to name a few.
