Completely Different Title / Greek

Greek translations, especially of older movies or TV shows very often are completely irrelevant, due to either the original title being untranslatable or just unmarketable, or just from plain ignorance of the translator.

    Literature
  • The Bible, particularly the Hebrew Bible ("Tanakh"/"Old Testament"). When the Septuagint translation to Greek was made in the 2nd-century BCE, some of the titles of Biblical books were changed.
    • In Hebrew, the names of the Torah/Pentateuch books are named after their first lines. Genesis is Bereshit ("In the beginning..."), Exodus is Shemot ("These are the names..."), Leviticus is called Vayikra ("And He Called..."), Numbers is Bamidbar ("In the wilderness..."), and Deuteronomy is Devarim ("Words..."). Our English names come from the Greek.
    • Same applies to Lamentations, which is called Eikah ("How...") in Hebrew.
    • The Books of Samuel are called the "Books of Kings" in the Greek Septuagint, and are grouped together with the Books of Kings. So instead of "1 Samuel - 2 Samuel - 1 Kings - 2 Kings", it's "1 Kings - 2 Kings - 3 Kings - 4 Kings" in Greek.
    • Dīvrē-hayYāmīm, meaning "The Matter of Days", is the Hebrew title of the Books of Chronicles. In Greek its rendered Paraleipoménon (meaning "Of Things Omitted").

    Live-Action TV
  • Knight Rider became "Ο Ιππότης της Ασφάλτου" (Asphalt's Knight). Not so far off, really.

    Video Games

    Western Animation
  • Dead End: Paranormal Park became Adiéxodo: To Párko ton Parafysikón Fainoménon (Deadlock: The Park of Paranormal Phenomena).
