    Yomi 
  • Cute Ghost Girl: Aside the cat eyes and missing lower body, she'd pass as a rather cheerful schoolgirl.
  • Gender-Bent Alternate Universe: Yomio from the "Girls and Boys" story often reappears as Yomi's co-narrator.
  • Horror Host: She narrates the intro and ending to each ghost story in a mischievous manner.
  • Karmic Trickster: In some chapters she appears as an antagonist, only to turn things back they were once the protagonist learns her lesson. Not without a price though, but better than dying.
  • Was Once a Man: Yomi was a regular schoolgirl known as Yumi Akimoto, before performing Murder-Suicide with a gas leak and then also being possessed by a local deity.

Protagonists

Volume 1

    Mio 
Mio is the first protagonist of the series. A lonely girl who appears in "The Devil's Game". One day, Mio comes across an abandoned game console and picks it up.
  • The Cameo: In Black Forum she is one of the girls Yomi is chatting with on the computer. Where from is anyone's guess.
  • Deadly Prank: One was played on her that resulted in her erasing herself from existence.
  • Irony: Mio was afraid of being left alone, but once she got addicted to the video game, she abandoned everyone else.
  • Never My Fault: Mio insists that it wasn't her fault her classmates ignored her. Her friend points out that she made no effort to reach out to anyone though.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Her appearance in comparison to other girls in the story imply she is boyish. But she's a romantic at heart with a big crush on a classmate, and her love life was one of the things she planned on improving with the game.

    Ai 
Ai is the protagonist of "The Bonds of a Curse". A young school girl who found Kotaro one wet, rainy day and takes care of him as the class pet.
  • Break the Cutie: Ai was heartbroken after she discovered Kotaro was dead, and hearing the admirable Sakahara, who was very kind to her casually talk about causing it completely crushed her. She caused his Karmic Death.
  • Children Are Innocent: Everyone views her this way for her naive kindness. Her friends even remark on how much of a good kid she is.
  • Girlish Pigtails

    Rika Andou 
Rika is the protagonist of "Mary's Dining Table". An extremely picky eater who is often lectured by her teacher and mother, she steals Mary from class to feed her the foods she hates.
  • And I Must Scream: The story ends with her being transformed into a doll stuck on a shelf, where all she can do is shed a Single Tear as she watches her mother and Mary sit down for a meal.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Her loose hair is paired with thick shoulder-length tails.
  • Picky Eater: During the story we learn she hates: Most meat; Milk; Eggplant; Carrot; Tomato; Cucumber; Green Peppers; Raisins. Her trying to overcome this is part of her character growth.
  • Sweet Tooth: She won't turn down sweets despite being a Picky Eater.

Volume 2

    Maiko 
The protagonist of "The Abandoned School at Midnight". Maiko set out to explore the abandoned school on New Year's Eve, where it is said a ghost will grant one's wish if they can find her.
  • Berserk Button: Maiko was willing to put up with Shimizu's insults, until he said she wasn't a girl.
  • Make a Wish: That was her intentions for tracking down the ghost:
    • I'll wish "Please erase Shimizu from this world!"
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Prior to the story she was trying to be a tomboy until getting insulted by Shimizu.
  • Too Hungry to Be Polite: At the start of the story when she begins inhaling cookies while chatting with her friends. They don't mind, but Shimizu thinks its gross.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: She seems to like cookies, which she carries a box of in her backpack.

    Misaki 
Misaki is the protagonist of "Bloody Valentine". With valentines day approaching Misaki can't wait to spend it with her boyfriend. But as she prepares for the big day she finds herself being confronted by a strange girl.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Up until the very end of the story she comes off as a doting, if insecure girlfriend. But she's Not Good with Rejection.
  • Love at First Sight: Naoyuki was observing a chocolate making book in her hands one day and Misaki fell for him on the spot.
  • Playing the Victim Card: She wrote several threatening letters planning to frame Naoyuki's girlfriend, then she sent some of them to her and kept the rest so that she could say she was being harassed. It worked and she got Sasaoka institutionalized.
  • Tomato Surprise: The first protagonist in the series to be revealed not how she's presented initially. It turns out she's a delusional yandere who thinks her relationship was being threatened.

    Rina Amano 
Rina is the protagonist of "Graduate Number 108". A young girl reflecting on her elementary school years with her friends on their last day of school. She comes across a strange shadow in their photo album and attempts to figure out the cause.
  • Academic Alpha Bitch: She is a popular, intelligent and athletic student with many talents and a humble attitude, but in actuality is a highly manipulative, self-absorbed and violent kid.
  • Accidental Murder: Downplayed. She didn't intend to murder Reiko, but considering what Rina did immediately afterwards, she was obviously fine with the result. It's also not clear if Reiko was even dead before being incinerated, which would subvert this.
  • Asshole Victim: She's not a good person by any means.
  • Attention Whore: Rina works very hard only for acknowledgment and attention. She would do anything she can to obtain love from others.Q
  • Death of a Child: In her case, it is completely deserved.
  • Enfant Terrible: She's an elementary aged bully who killed a classmate a year prior to the story, and she only cares about herself.
  • The Fake Cutie: Rina has a cutesy design and looks relatively harmless, her Girlish Pigtails are even held by pom-pom scrunchies. But she is anything but cute.
  • Karmic Death: Ends up burning to death inside a school incinerator, after being dragged there by the spirit of a girl whose body she put there in the first place.
  • Never My Fault: She claims Reiko deserved to die for rejecting her offer of friendship and was convinced she talked down to her "because she's pretty".
  • Tomato Surprise: Up until the end of the chapter Rina is built up as an amazing, hard-working girl who is well liked by others; but it turns out she's actually a Manipulative Bastard. She does work hard, but only for recognition and praise, pretending to be humble when in front of others. When she doesn't get her way she will resort to intimidation.

    Ayumi Ooishi 
Ayumi is the protagonist of "Supplements for the Brain". She attends cram school but she isn't very smart, so she gets picked on a lot. Then one day she finds an ad for a supplement said to increase ones intelligence.

    Miki Oosaki 
Protagonist of "The Matching Class". Miki Oosaki is a transfer student from another district who quickly fits in with her classmates due to their shared traits and interests. But one day she decides to change things up.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: She wore her hair up in pigtails until she sought individualism, then she started to wear it loose.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: She's slightly reserved at first but she quickly takes to the group of girls who invite her to join them. She was willing to overlook their oddities to keep them as friends, but she eventually realizes something is off.

Volume 3

    Miharu Kurihara 
Miharu Kurihara is the protagonist of "Kasako-san is Coming". She is friends with her long time sports rival Youko.
  • Always Someone Better: They are said to be evenly matched, but she and everyone else believes Youko has an edge over her.
  • Passionate Sports Girl: She was prior to becoming overwhelmed by pressure from her parents. She seems to regain it during the time skip.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Her feminine appearance contrasts Youko's classic tomboy looks.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Youko worked hard to calm Miharu down and try to locate the umbrella so that they could both be spared by Kasako-san. Then at the last second she decides to save ''herself''.

    Youko Oota 
Youko Oota is the joint protagonist of "Kasko-san is Coming". She was the favorite to win the upcoming sport competition.

    Nagisa Sugimoto 
Nagisa is the protagonist of "The Truth About Yomi Part 1 & 2". A young girl suffering from constant bullying who wishes she could be taken away from it. Then one day she suddenly finds herself in another time and place.
  • Happy Ending: The first protagonist to not commit any evil deeds and officially get one.
  • Heal the Cutie: Started off broken, but befriending Yumi gave her the courage to repair herself.
  • Stock Shoujo Bullying Tactics: Not only do her bullies throw garbage on her desk, but they call her names and spread slander.
  • With Friends Like These...: It's not explained what happened, but the girls bullying her were her friends a month prior to the story. Their slander involving boys might have been them lashing out at her in jealousy.

    Chika Nishizono 
The girl never caught by a "demon", Chika Nishizono is the protagonist of "The Endless Game of Tag".
  • And I Must Scream: The time skip at the end of the story reveals that like Hiroko, she is currently in a coma where all she can do is relive her nightmare.
  • Asshole Victim: She's not the worst protagonist by far, but she could be a jerk. Her relentless mockery caused Hiroko a lot of grief and indirectly her death. Even after suggesting she and her friends visit Hiroko's family to pay their respects, she continued badmouthing her before and after. Throughout the chapter she also kept searching for other people to tell the story to, not caring at all about what could happen to them.
  • Hypocrite: She chewed out her classmate for telling her the story- just to find another sucker to repeat it to.

Volume 4

    Tomoe Miura 
Tomoe Miura is the protagonist of "Shi-chan's Diary". An awkward girl and the third wheel to her long-time friends Rie and Yosshi, she came across an old diary after class one day and suggests they share it.
  • It's All About Me: Rather than speak up, Tomoe decided to manipulate everything for the sake of getting a friend for herself. After breaking up the girls she showed no remorse over anything but having to hurt herself for her plan.
  • Karmic Death: Yomi suggests this as she comes to collect Shi-chan from her in the epilogue.
  • Manipulative Bastard: She used Shi-chan to make it look like Yosshi was trying to harm her by purposely harming herself and copying her writing to make fake entries. Then she told Rie her "suspicions" and confronted her when she came to see them. It worked and Rie turned on her.
  • Self-Fulfilling Prophecy: She dies from a head injury after she sees a crude drawing depicting the event. Yosshi then appeared and Tomoe thought she was going to attack her for backstabbing her, and in her panic to escape she fell down a flight of stairs.

    Miyuki Okui 
Miyuki Okui is the protagonist of "From The Land of Mirrors". After one day learning the rumors behind the large mirror in the corridor she accidentally puts a crack in it. She then starts to notice strange oddities among her classmates.
  • Tomato in the Mirror: The Miyuki in the story is actually from the mirror world and is smashed apart by her real world self after she accidentally hits the mirror with a bat.

    An Shirazawa 
An Shirazawa is the protagonist of "Execution Classroom". She is a meek girl who is frequently bullied and saved by her friend Miyuu. Her troubles begin to disappear when her class decides to test out the rumors of the cursed chair in her classroom.
  • He Knows Too Much: Miyu confided with her that she planned on disposing the chair. So An concludes that for the greater-good that she has to go.
  • With Friends Like These...: Miyuu came to her rescue several times, she even forgave her for hurting her. So how does An repay her? She forces her into the chair.

    Yukina 
Yukina is the protagonist from "The Girl Under the Bed". A young girl who decides to play a series of pranks on her friend based on a scary story.
  • False Friend: The girls were pretending to be her friends. To her face they were very friendly, but when her back was turned they wasted no time mocking her for being so oblivious.
  • It's Personal: Initially, Yukina was only pranking Maria because she excluded her. Until she discovered that Maria didn't consider her one of their real friends, then she sought revenge.

    Ayako 
Ayako is the young protagonist of "Black Cat Saya". After her family hits a cat on the way home from their relatives she one day finds a stray black kitten and brings her home.
  • Daddy's Girl: Her dad is the reason she's so spoiled, and she seems to get along better with him.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Her long hair is worn loose with a pair of banana-shaped pigtails.
  • Gory Discretion Shot: Her injuries and death through being hit and run over by a car.
  • Lack of Empathy: Ayako is very selfish for a young child. After they hit the cat she throws a tantrum about missing her television program.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: Ayako was run over, but appears to be saved and awakens in the hospital with her parents standing over her. Turns out this is Saya and Ayako is in the grave she puts together at home.

Volume 5

    Misa Tamura 
Misa is the protagonist of "Black Forum", a quiet girl who frequently spends her free time glued to her school's forum ranting over the things that anger her. But one day she finds a topic about her and tries figuring out who started it.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: She looks innocent and mousy, but her expressions don't hide her disdain or annoyance, then she uses the forum to badmouth her friend Eiko behind her back.
    "It's not like I can vent my stress on my mom. Since I'm such a dear!"
  • Education Mama: Her mom demands she stops spending so much time online to focus on her studies.
  • Hypocrite: Misa thinks Eiko complains all the time, ignoring how many times she complains throughout the story.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Her long hair is worn in thin, almost navel-length pigtails.

    Kaori Miyama 
Kaori is the protagonist of "Miracle Ball". She is the captain of her school basketball team and is good friends with Miri, the weak link.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: After praying for something to help the team improve, she was horrified when her mother woke her up to reveal Miri died. Ultimately the story does have a Happy Ending, but she did lose her friend.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Miri wanted to tell her something before she left. But she held back and Kaori didn't notice. She regrets not staying there to ask about it, wondering if her death could have been prevented if she did.

    Akane 
Akane is the protagonist of "The Money Tree". Akane's family doesn't have much money, and one day she gets teased by a wealthy classmate whose success is the result of their Money Tree. After leaving in tears, she later discovers the Money Tree has appeared outside of her home.

    Miho Yokoyama 
Miho Yokoyama is the protagonist of "Best Friend". Since coming to middle school she has become reserved and lonely after her elementary school friend began attending a different school. Then one day she gets a mystery pen pal.

Volume 6

    Miya Maeshima 
The protagonist of "The Slit Mouthed Woman". Miya Maeshima is known for the scary stories she tells, and like the rest of the girls in her class she dislikes her pretty new substitute teacher.
  • Continuity Nod: Apparently she knows the story of "The Girl Under the Bed".
  • Karmic Death: For essentially causing the Slit Mouthed Woman to become real, its implied that she gets killed by her.
  • Lack of Empathy: While she did feel bad for her behavior towards Akamiya, she felt no responsibility or guilt over what damage her lies caused afterwards.
  • Love Makes You Crazy: She dislikes Akamiya for a variety of reasons, but her main problem was seeing her crush spend time with her. It seemed to play a large part in her actions.
  • Manipulative Bastard: In the latter half of the story she confronts her class with the evidence she and her friends discovered. The evidence she planted.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: She loves telling scary stories, but her friends tease her by saying she only does it to get attention.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Or at least results in causing someone to go crazy after being attacked and children to be murdered by them. If she had just confessed to what she did, none of it would have happened.

    Nana 
Nana is the protagonist of "The Land of Mermaids". In elementary school she was regarded as the prettiest girl in class, but now that she's in middle school she wants to reclaim her popularity. Especially after hearing about the land of mermaids.
  • Artistic License – Biology: Realistically, there is no way Nana could have become so beautiful just after having surgery. Her body would have been bruised and swollen and probably need weeks of recovery.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: She was popular for being thin in elementary school, but now it's popular to have curves, which she still lacks. One of her plastic surgery changes involved adding them.
  • I Just Want to Be Beautiful: Her reasons for desperately trying to cling to popularity was because she believes the effort she puts into maintaining her image mean nothing if nobody else agrees.

    Kana Araki 
Kana Araki is the protagonist of "The Day I Became a Demon Part 1 & 2''. Her best friend is Erika Katori, until she becomes part of the girls bullying her.
  • Break the Cutie: Not only does her best friend turn on her, but she's bullied and ignored by the girls in class to avoid being bullied too. The final nail in the coffin was witnessing Erika destroy her bag charm they bought as a set together.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Kana returns to save Erika from the fire after she confronts her with her discovery. Then she throws the abandoned classroom's book into the flames to erase her wish and they return to their current time, where they reunite and become friends again.
  • Stock Shoujo Bullying Tactics: Mean images and writing drawn on her things, property destroyed, girls ignoring and insulting her. She also returns the favor to Erika after going back to the day prior to the bullying so that she was the victim instead.

Volume 7

    Aki Nakajima 
Aki Nakajima is the protagonist of "Friendly Apartment Complex", a socially awkward girl who moves into an apartment with her mother after her parents split up. But as she begins warming up to the kindness of its residents, she starts noticing how strange they are.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: She was a victim of bullying from prior friends who turned on her for unknown reasons and it's implied she may have social problems.
  • No Social Skills: Initially a Shrinking Violet recovering from what happened at her old home, she wasn't used to the kindness shown towards her at first.
  • Tomboy: She has short hair and wears gender neutral clothing, giving this effect.

    Miu Akino 
Miu Akino is the protagonist of "Scarecrow Teacher". After her teacher accidentally offends her and the rest of her female classmates she comes up with a prank to get back at her.
  • Asshole Victim: She plays mean-spirited pranks over advice that came off the wrong way and crosses the line. Was it any surprise she was punished?
  • Heel–Face Door-Slam: By the time she realizes her pranks have gone too far, the scarecrow gets her and her classmates.
  • Lack of Empathy: Until accidentally hurting her Teacher, she felt no shame or guilt for what she did to her.
  • Protectorate: Doesn't necessarily make one, but she has this attitude regarding Yuri. She bullied their Teacher out of spite because Yuri cried, and was very shocked finding out her classmates didn't share the sentiment.
  • Sci Fi Bob Hair Cut: Her hairstyle loosely resembles this with Hair Intakes.
  • Stock Shoujo Bullying Tactics: She ropes the other girls in her class into pulling the Silent Treatment on a teacher.

    Haru Okamoto 
Haru Okamoto is the protagonist of "Make-Believe Sisters". She feels unloved because of how spoiled her little sister is. Then one day after an argument she makes a wish and awakens to see that she's become Mina.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Haru was loving her time as Mina, until Mina began to imitate Haru's threats from the day before and nearly killed her.
  • "Freaky Friday" Flip: Haru made a wish to earn her parents favoritism, which is what led to her and Mina swapping bodies.
  • Parental Favoritism: She feels left out because of her parents being so busy with work that what little time they are free is spent with Mina, and they have Haru pick up the slack around the house since Mina's too young. She became convinced that she's The Unfavorite.
  • Sibling Murder: Nearly killed by Mina at the end of the story, but they switch back to normal at the last second so it looks like she killed Mina instead.

    Kaho Masumoto 
Kaho Masumoto is the protagonist of "The Do-Gooders Club". After getting her friend together with her crush she searches for a way to fill her free time by seeking out an after-school club.
  • Boyish Short Hair: She could pass off as a boy with visible eyelashes.
  • Determinator: To help Risa hook up with her crush she not only introduced them to one-another, but she spoke to various students to learn more about him, and would spend a lot of time helping her show support during his basketball games.
  • Good Samaritan: She likes helping others, which was what inspired her to join the Do-Gooders Club after she got roped into helping initially.
  • Karma Houdini: The second protagonist in the series to commit a bad deed and get away with it.

Volume 8

    Yuri Shirakura 
Yuri Shirakura is the protagonist of "The Requirements of a Belle". A popular and beautiful girl admired by her classmates.
  • Relationship Upgrade: She hooks up with Shun at the end of the story.
  • Self-Harm: She snaps and runs into the bathroom with her personal grooming items, where her horrified friends watch as she cuts off a segment of hair, then cuts down each nail enough to make them bleed. She then stabbed herself in the stomach and most-likely would have kept going if she hadn't lost consciousness.

    Sakura Moeno 
Sakura Moeno is the protagonist of "Last White Day". The school idol for the boys. After receiving a box of cream puffs from a mysterious person, she eats them and begins to find weird messages from an unknown source.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Sakura is very cute and well-aware of it, so she acts sweet and friendly. For Valentines Day she hands out a lot of cheap chocolate in order to get several, nicer items back on White Day. She also likes to watch boys get worked up over her but she refuses to date one guy at a time. Her friends appear to be the only ones aware of it.
  • Gory Discretion Shot: Her death by stabbing was shown in the form of blood splattering on the cookies.
  • Lack of Empathy: She's making fun of Loner Boy with her friends and expressing no remorse after he revealed what happened to him. Meanwhile, her female classmates are extremely callous about her being stalked and blame her for being too friendly.
  • The Fake Cutie: Sakura acts cute and friendly to earn the attention of boys so that they treat her well in return.
  • Tsundere: She acts like a light one around Kamiya
  • Yandere: After her death she appears to be one for Kamiya, and she repeats what the Loner Student did by leaving him a wrapped chocolate.

    Mana Hibino 
Mana Hibino is the protagonist of "My Older Brother and I". Mana makes a Dream Brother to replace her annoying older brother.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: Things return to normal soon enough and she has a much better bond with her family. But unaware of Ikumi's plans to replace her, she is shoved into sand by his Dream Sister.

    Kumi Mizumoto 
Kumi Mizumoto is the protagonist of "The Queen's Trick", a tomboy who enviously desires to be seen as cute like her classmate Mirei. After accidentally inhaling pollen from a beautiful flower, she discovers she has suddenly become desirable to men.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: More than anything she wanted to be seen as cute and girly, and after inhaling the pollen she was getting everything she wanted. But her Pride got the better of her and she abused her flower, eventually resulting in her death.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: Kumi desperately pulls on the flower to try to get it off of her head and cries out for help. After a Hope Spot, she suddenly finds the boys beginning to get closer and attempts to step back, resulting in her slipping over the railing and fall off of the school roof.
  • Single Tear: When she realizes she lost her grip on the roof and slips off of it.

Volume 9

    Suzu Oono 
Suzu Oono is the protagonist of "The Toilet Goddess". Before entering middle school she was always surrounded by friends, but now that everyone has split up she is very lonely and often hides in the restroom to pass time. Then one day she hears about the Toilet Goddess and starts finding notes being left for her.
  • And I Must Scream: Suzu is forced into the toilet by the Goddess at the end of the story. However, in doing so she reunites with Rena.
  • Break the Cutie: Suzu was very resentful and lonely, but she began perking up after finding friendship in the form of corresponding notes. But after seeing Rena leave the stall she was led to think she was pulling a mean-spirited prank on her and unknowingly causes her death. Then she causes her own when trying to fix her mistake later.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: She had friends until Middle School, but rather than everyone going to separate schools, Suzu's problem is that her friends began branching out and she blamed them for abandoning her. She actively tries to avoid being seen rather than make an effort to reach out.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: After Rena disappears and Suzu learns the truth behind what she did, she attempts to get her back.

    Rui 
Rui is the protagonist of "Hell's Clock part 1 & 2". Hearing that her best friend Kei will be moving away, she decides to confess to him. But when it ends in disaster she attempts to use the clock to go back in time to repair their relationship.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: After being Driven to Suicide, she awakens from a five year coma to discover Kei has been with her every day in the Hospital waiting for her to wake up. Its implied they have a Relationship Upgrade as Yomi observes them.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: She asks Yomi to spare Kei's life and offers to take his place by jumping off of a nearby hill. However, Yomi was so touched by her earnest feelings that she only takes five years from her life, rather than all of it.
  • Misery Builds Character: Over the story, Rui comes to realize that she was always stuck in the past and hesitated over everything. So she begins to look forward.

    Rie Ootsuka 
Rie Ootsuka is the protagonist of "The Fish Family". A young girl who dislikes her strict household and would rather watch television and go on vacation like her friends; she accidentally kills one of her pet fish and begins to notice strange things beginning to happen with her parents.
  • Failed a Spot Check: After confessing what she did to their fish, she fails to notice the gills on her parents necks as they console her.
  • Transformation Horror: If the credits page means anything, she eventually became an actual fish and was eaten.

Volume 10

    Riri Itou 
Riri Itou is the protagonist of "The Witch of the Library Room". She and her best friends Misao and Mako are part of the "Hijiri Alliance" out of adoration for one of their classmates. But she would give anything to be closer to him.
  • Conflicting Loyalty: She didn't intend on getting close to Hijiri because of her friends and their mutual agreement he was off limits, but through coincidence it happened and they were forced to remind her that she could not have a Relationship Upgrade with him. She started to have doubts.
  • Fangirl: of her classmate, Hijiri.
  • Gory Discretion Shot: She isn't shown being crushed by the book case, nor is the aftermath of her shoving her friends down the stairs.
  • Lack of Empathy: After realizing she killed/harmed her friends under the false belief they had the book, she only lingers on it for a second, having been too far gone by this point.

    Uta Kondou 
The overly shy protagonist of "Soprano of Miracle" who is given the solo for an upcoming competition. She has little to no confidence in her abilities until she finds a strange lump that gives her an amazing voice.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: When she's extremely stressed out she is shown to become violent. She not only attempted to stab the lump with a led pencil, but she came within inches of stabbing Miyu after overhearing what sounded like her and her friend making fun of her.
  • Meaningful Name: Mixed with Ironic Name, Uta means song.
  • Shrinking Violet: She's so fragile that she can barely speak to others, and she frequently comes close to tears.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: After realizing the lump has vanished, she was shocked to realize she could still sing amazingly well. But to her choir mates horror, they find it now growing out of her head. According to Yomi it will eventually cover her entire body.
  • You Are Not Alone: She gains a newfound confidence after realizing her classmates support her and has fun singing with them.

    Yukio Shimoda 
The protagonist of "At Emily-chan's Home" who along with her friends gets invited to a new classmates home for a Christmas party. But while there, she happens to find an old doll...
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Yukio got the Christmas she wanted, at the cost of her friends lives and a Yandere doll. But unlike most cases, she is shown to be very happy with how things turned out.
  • Deal with the Devil: Emily-chan kills anybody who gets close to her owner, and she will turn on them if they push her away or if she finds someone new.
  • Here We Go Again!: She takes Noelle's place as Emily-chan's favorite person.
  • Parental Abandonment: Both of her parents are forced to work a lot to get by as they don't have much money, leading her to feel this way. Even when she comes home Christmas morning she finds them having left already. It was this that causes her to accept Emily's gesture of friendship.
  • With Friends Like These...: Noelle wasn't exactly her friend yet nor did she plan what happened but she still counts. She happily tells Yukio that her friends were nosy and deserved to be killed by Emily, then tries to sic the doll on her.

Volume 11

    Yuna 
Yuna is the selfish protagonist of "Midnight Kotatsu". She loves getting New Year's money, but after discovering her younger cousin received more than her, she decides to hide it from him as a prank.
  • Death by Materialism: It was her Greed that caused her to resort to a childish prank, which eventually led to the spirit of her Grandfather finding her.
  • Hate Sink: One of the most unsympathetic protagonists of the series, as she never really undergoes any significant character development before her eventual fate.
  • Lack of Empathy: It's not her fault if Sora didn't listen to their grandmother. Her uncaring behavior as they try to search for Sora leads to her mother slapping her.
  • The Scrooge: Yuna clearly doesn't care about anything unless money is involved. She's a Spoiled Brat who for fun likes comparing money amounts with her friends, she spends it on frivolous things, skips formalities and courtesy to count it, and she gets envious if someone has more than her. She was even shown to only miss her deceased Grandfather because he would give her more money in secret.

    Kaori Matsumoto 
Kaori Matsumoto is the protagonist of "The Erasing Blackboard", an easily bored girl who learns about the rumor of an abandoned classroom chalkboard and decides to test it out. Realizing it's true, she decides to use it for good deeds... at first.

    Hina Okamoto 
Hina Okamoto is the protagonist of "Best Friend Chocolate". She loves her best friend Mari more than anything, but after a strange confrontation with an older girl who gives her chocolate, she is alarmed when Mari begins to avoid her.
  • Despair Event Horizon: After a day of being shunned by everyone and thinking Mari abandoned her, Hina lashes out at her in tears and shoves her down a flight of stairs.
  • Odd Friendship: Her friendship with Mari gets this reaction a lot because of how different they are. Nobody can understand their bond.
  • Shoot the Shaggy Dog: After shoving Mari down the stairs, Hina runs home only to discover her true intentions in pushing her away. But before she can leave to find her and apologize, she's confronted by Chiyoko.

    Lala Nishino 
Lala Nishino is the protagonist of "Marionette's Lover". A selfish girl who doesn't like how distant her boyfriend has become lately. One day she finds a strange doll said to control anyone the owner loves.
  • Beauty Is Bad: Lala is very beautiful and popular, even being scouted by magazines and acting jobs. But she is also incredibly vain and ultimately only cares about herself.
  • With Friends Like These...: Not only does she make fun of one of her supposed friends, but said girl ends up backstabbing her to hook up with her boyfriend and has been seeing him for sometime prior to the reveal.
  • Woman Scorned: Being dumped by Aki is what sets her off. Even though its implied she is only with him because of his popularity, she couldn't believe anyone would dump her of all people.

Volume 12

    Hikari 
A young, childish girl and the protagonist of "Ding-Dong Lady". She often bickers with her mother over trivial things- but one day she is frightened after hearing the story of a deceased woman's spirit who visits the homes of children left alone.
  • Education Mama: Her mom was more upset over her refusal to do anything, not just her homework. They are said to argue a lot because of this.
  • Happy Ending: She reconciles with her mother and will no longer take her for granted, she also did not get confronted by the Ding-Dong Lady.
  • With Friends Like These...: Her good friend, who is at least one year ahead of her, decided it was okay to scare her as a means of de-stressing, and found her fright amusing.

    Lulu Naitou 
Lulu Naitou is the protagonist of "Mei-chan's Texts", a lonely elementary student who longs for a friend and suddenly finds one through a random text she receives.
  • Death of a Child: Yomi implies that Lulu fought for her life but was pulled into the other world so that Mei could have her friend by her side forever.
  • Expy: She resembles a younger Sakura Moeno, an earlier protagonist in the series.
  • Never Found the Body: Most-likely, because nobody ever found Mei and she was trapped in the same sewer by her.
  • The Cutie: Besides her adorable-sounding first name, she's also a bit of a Shrinking Violet who cries and gets flustered very easily.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: After suffering a small heartbreak thinking Mei was a False Friend playing a mean joke on her, she made an earnest effort to earn real friends and was successful! But while on a trip with her new friends, the onslaught of texts from Mei caused her to panic, drop her phone, and fall into a manhole with a broken ladder. Her friends were looking for her but Mei ensured they couldn't find her.

    Asami 
Asami is the protagonist of "Yomi-sama's Facts -Prequel- and -Sequel-". She is very popular for being a sweet and cute first-year student; but after a divination names her the person with the worst personality in class she finds her perfect world turned upside down.
  • Break the Cutie: She gets put through a lot. Not only did everyone in class turn against her, but everyone in the school as well. She was also dumped by her boyfriend, then attacked by girls older than her. When she finally gave up and quit going to school she still got harassed. But she manages to earn a Happy Ending for herself.
  • Sanity Slippage: After everything she's been put through at school she sits by herself and a precision cutter falls out of her pack. Her reaction as she picked it up implied she was going to do something drastic, but she snapped out of it after getting distracted.
  • The Fake Cutie: What she gets accused of after the bad reading. She admits that she does at times have unpleasant opinions but she never openly says anything and otherwise appears to be as sweet as she looks.
  • The Power of Friendship: Ultimately showing genuine support and kindness towards Nanaya helped her recover and move on. She returned the favor by giving her the pep-talk she needed.
  • With Friends Like These...: Miki and Shio, her best friends who one day decided to turn everyone in school against her and start bullying her because she was dating a guy they had crushes on. A flashback implies that they bossed her around in the past.

    Liz 
Protagonist of "The Sea of Silence". For vacation, Liz is forced to join her family on a beach trip. After losing her patience with them she decides to explore, only to discover an old picture diary belonging to a girl who vanished several years back.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: Her little brother's idea of fun involves spraying her with water.
  • Bratty Teenage Daughter: She loses her temper over the trivial things her family does, she frequently tunes them out by listening to music, complaining about their holiday trip, etc. She acknowledges that she acts this way, but she doesn't know how to handle it.
  • Kill and Replace: Liz was lured by Minako's spirit to her family home in order to replace her and satisfy the grotesque spirits of her parents so that her own could rest in peace.
  • Never Found the Body: In the epilogue, Yomi wonders what happened to Liz. In an omake based on the story, she reappears with Minako's deceased parents, attempting to target another girl. Also subverted, when Liz was the one to discover Minako's remains ten years after her disappearance.

Volume 13

    Kaede Mimura 
Kaede is the beautiful protagonist of "Beautiful Mother and Daughter". Unfortunately the same can't be said for her mom, who she entirely resents for looking so homely. She would do anything to have a mom she could show-off to her friends...
  • And I Must Scream: At the end of the story she has been reduced to a sickly old-looking woman, while her mother will continue to be young and beautiful.
  • Asshole Victim: She hated her mother because she was unattractive (and its implied Kaede's been like this since she was little), unlike most cases in this series she lacks any redeeming qualities; unless one considers her genuine feelings for her boyfriend.
  • Beauty Is Bad: On one hand there's her personality as the incredibly vain young woman, on the other, she begins to experience problems with her mother's newfound beauty and gets a first-hand experience as to how bad it can be.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Kaede has a delicate image and she acts very sweet and humble when in public, but at home she is nothing short of cruel, spiteful, and hostile towards her only parental figure whose efforts to keep her in good health and make her happy go unnoticed. She also has a massive ego and calls herself a Goddess.

    Asato Komatsu 
Asato is the protagonist of "Friend of the Science Room", a girl who used to be friends with a group of girls known for harassing other classmates who aren't in said group, until they one day turn on Asato. After being locked in the Science supplies room, she comes across a skeleton model, then a series of strange events begin to unfold.
  • Gory Discretion Shot: Her death at the hands of the skeleton isn't shown, but [[what remains of her body is covered with a sheet]]. When "she" shows up to speak to Chiba, it isn't hard to figure out what happened.
  • Lack of Empathy: Initially she was concerned for Yuu after finding out she went missing, but after Hana cruelly confronted her, Asato stopped caring and believes they deserved it. She also planned on continuing to use the skeleton against other people who hurt her if it came to that. She also chose to run away from Hana when she screamed for help. She didn't feel bad for anyone the skeleton made disappear, and planned on using it to help her get rid of anyone else she deemed an enemy.

    Ami Kimizuka 
Ami is the messy protagonist of "The Cleaning Man", a sloppy and lazy young girl who hates cleaning up after herself. Then she hears about a man who will clean up messes and make things beautiful again, and she starts to take advantage of the rumor to avoid doing any work.
  • Hoist by Her Own Petard: Abused the cleaning man rumor to avoid having to do any work. The cleaning man eventually responded by throwing all of her trash on her desk, turning her friends and classmates against her out of shock and repulsion.

Volume 14

    Madoka Kitano 
Madoka is the protagonist of "Ghost Tunnel". An extremely frail sixth grader who is frequently picked on and criticized, she finds herself facing a crisis after she accidentally takes the protection seal from the tunnel many use for transportation.
  • Crocodile Tears: She used these to convince Misono to come with her to the tunnel, along with some flattery.
  • Death of a Child: Killed by the trapped spirits of the ghost tunnel.
  • Hoist by Her Own Petard: She took too long to push Misono into the tunnel that she caught her in the process and tried to turn things around so that Madoka was almost forced in.
  • The Dog Bites Back: After being picked on and bullied by everyone, Madoka finally snaps and strikes the one person who torments her the most. She ends up killing her, but in self-defense.

    Kanna Kamiyama 
The protagonist of "Blog of God", Kanna is unnoticeable and lacks any true talents in comparison to her popular friends. Then one day, they convince her to start up a Blog and she quickly finds popularity in the form of a Blogger who takes an interest in her.
  • And I Must Scream: Forced to spend the rest of her life locked up in home working on her blog until she dies of old age, kills herself, or is killed by her ghost followers.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: In comparison to her friends, she regards herself as being very plain. While she only started the blog because of her friends recommending it, she began to worry when she gained popularity and they considered starting up their own.
  • Girls Love Stuffed Animals: She makes plush toys, which was the primary focus of her blog at first.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Her friends were the ones who convinced her to start a Blog, but after she gained popularity she tried to talk to them out of starting their own. She also blew them off to work on her blog, which came to bite her later when she tried getting their help.

    Momo Sakurano 
Momo is the protagonist of "True Intention Candy". With Valentines Day coming up she would do anything if she could confess to her crush. Then while exploring the candy section of a shop she comes across a new candy said to allow one to read the Hearts of others.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Momo is a small, cute, and innocent-looking protagonist, but she bullies another girl for having feelings for the same guy. She later realizes that she never actually tried to get to know her though, and begins to regret it. Her classmates also think she's this, which she discovers through the candy.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Basic tails by the ears held with scrunchies or pom-pom.
  • Hoist by Her Own Petard: After realizing the candy worked, Momo started using it to read everyone's thoughts and found out that not only was her best friend tired of her, but her classmates were pretending to like her. Her crush also accused her of being clingy because of the bragging she was doing earlier, and when she slips up and says something he didn't actually tell her.
  • Insecure Love Interest: She wasn't confident her crush returned her feelings, which is why she bought the candy. She drops this after discovering he actually did though.
  • Karmic Death: For bullying Iwamoto, she gets strangled by her when her defenses were down.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: She connects with her crush over their preference of strawberry milk.

Volume 15

    Kurumi Nuiyama 
Protagonist of "Beloved Plush Toy", Kurumi is very patient and understanding when it comes to others. But at home, her more unpleasant side comes out. She takes her anger out of her old stuffed toys, then one day she locates her old, beloved Teddy Bear and discovers that no matter how roughly she treats it, it won't break like the others.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Kurumi thought she could continuously abuse Teddy because he was capable of taking the punishment. She didn't expect he would eventually turn on her and gather her other abused stuffed animals to violently confront her.

    Kozue 
The unremarkable and mousy protagonist of "Capsuled Personality Vending Machine" who enjoys collecting Gachapon/Capsule objects and unique items. She comes across a capsule machine said to be filled with personality.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: After she becomes an Empty Shell, she's bullied by all her former friends who take advantage that she won't respond to anything. Her best friend Mika expresses pity for her, but her words can't reach her anymore.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: In the end thanks to the white capsule prize, her mind becomes empty and nonresponsive. She's still happy because she's surrounded like people like she always wanted... as her bullies.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: The Capsuled Personality balls have this effect on her. Red makes her assertive and not afraid to speak what's on her mind. Yellow makes her the Class Clown. Blue makes her smarter. Green makes her a peacemaker. White makes her into an Empty Shell.
  • Empty Shell: The latest capsule prize makes her completely nonresponsive to anyone.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Even though Mika treats her with kindness, Kozue wants to have more friends and become popular.

    Hikaru Yamada 
Hikaru is the protagonist of "Photo Sticker Collection". Right now Photo Stickers are very popular, but Hikaru is known for her lousy pictures and poor complexion. Then one day she hears about a special, hidden frame within the picture machine said to increase ones beauty.
  • Expy: Besides the resemblance and personalities, her story is similar to Kumi's from "Queen's Trick".
  • I Just Want to Be Beautiful: She didn't really care about her looks until she heard some friends badmouthing her behind her back.
  • Shoot the Shaggy Dog: Kanan saved Hikaru before their ex-friends could destroy a picture of her, but just as she convinces Hikaru of her worth, their Teacher starts shredding the pictures she wanted disposed of earlier...

Volume 16

    Marin Ninomiya 
Marin is the fashionable protagonist of "Red Heeled Woman". Jealous of the attention another classmate gets one day, she decides to play a prank based on an urban legend.
  • Deadly Prank: A prank was played on her by revenge-seeking classmates, which indirectly led to her being killed. She also plays one on her classmate for getting some attention, but she didn't know that the Red-Heeled Woman was real. Luckily, the girl was able to get help and avoided death/serious injury.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Just for having a little attention stolen from her, or being told off by a classmate, she decides that it's perfectly okay to ruin their shoes.
  • Fashionista: She loves fashion and gives advice to others, which may be unwarranted, given her friends' insults late in the story.
  • Friendship Moment: At one point her friends tried to make her feel better when their classmate told her off, then in another instance when they saw she was nervous about the Red-Heeled Woman coming after her. But it turned out that they were setting her up.
  • Gory Discretion Shot: She isn't shown being hit by the car, just after. The story also cuts away when the Red-Heeled Woman prepares to cut her feet off.
  • Pride: Her massive ego leads her to believe that its okay to look down on others if they don't measure up to her standards.
  • With Friends Like These...: She seems to value her friends to some extent, but she also criticizes how plain they look. They imply that she talks down to them late in the story.

    Atsuna 
Atsuna is the protagonist of "Paradise Box". To deal with the summer heat Atsuna escapes to "Paradise", otherwise known as her fridge; despite warnings from her mother.

    Yue Miyazaki 
A talented young artist and the protagonist of "The Girl in the Poster". Yue decides to enter an upcoming art contest using a controversial image.

Volume 17

    Nana Ninose 
Nana is the twin sister of Nono and the protagonist of "The Tale of Twins". Tired of living in Nono's shadow, Nana uses a charm found in a magazine to trade places with her.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Her wanting to swap places with Nono causes her to realize what Nono is really like, and she gets mistaken for her in the worst way possible.
  • Did Not Get The Guy: She thought as Nono she stood a chance with her crush, unaware that he actually didn't like her. He was only trying to speak with her because she bullies his sister.
  • Grass is Greener: She assumed Nono had an easy life because she was talented, popular, and she makes friends easily. Then it turns out that Nono is a bully and it goes downhill from there...
  • Gory Discretion Shot: The story cut away when a knife-wielding classmate confronts her.
