    Capricorn Pirates

Capricorn Pirates

Yuki-Rin

Molly O'Flannigan

  • Broken Bird: The Tenryuubito burned down Molly's home and killed her birth parents before they forced her into Yuki-Rin's family against her own will.
  • Oireland: Molly came from an Oireland-type place before she was forced into Yuki-Rin's family against her own will.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The girly-girl to Yuki-Rin's tomboy. While Molly sometimes wears punk and goth-inspired dresses and is more of The Stoic, Yuki-Rin never wears dresses and is more of a Genki Girl.

Hatori Chidori

  • Butt-Monkey: Usually seen getting the short end of the stick. We've also never seen Hatori fight, as of yet.
  • Only Sane Man: Was the only member of the Capricorn Pirates not involved in the battle against Big Margo at the end of the Baleeria Porto Arc.

Heathcliffe Sarutobi

  • Abusive Parents: His parents kicked him out of the house for refusing to conform to Tenryuubito society. It's probably a contributing reason as to why Heathcliffe is a Broken Bird.
  • Broken Bird: He was shunned by the World Nobles and their families for not acting like them. It is really driven home when Heathcliffe's family - thinking he died - put him in a coffin and sent him to sea when he was asleep. Heathcliffe then had to play his guitar on the streets for money and live alone in filthy, unsafe tenement housings for a year, until Yuki-Rin found Heathcliffe - who was filthy, lice-infested, starving, and begging on the streets - and took him into the crew.
  • Lonely Rich Kid: A major part of his backstory. Grew up as one of the three sons of Saint Sarutobi, a World Noble. He only had his two brothers, Holden and Soren, to hang out with since the commoner kids shunned Heathcliffe for being a Noble's son and the kids of Nobles shunned him for not conforming to Noble society. Then, it got Invoked and Heathcliffe was kicked out of his home and forced to live in filth and poverty for a year, living through hunger, lack of a proper shower, lice, and death. Fortunately, things turn around for Heathcliffe and he's got some good friends (and his brothers and his girlfriend) backing him up.

Isabella Sarutobi

  • Our Ghosts Are Different: Isabella knows some special attacks, which makes her a good battling partner with Heathcliffe.

Kazuma Miyafuji

  • Broken Bird: His house and the family dojo burns down and his dad gets serious injuries from the fire a week before the story begins.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: During the Ginling Island Arc with Yuki-Rin. He DOES spit it out and tell Yuki-Rin that he loves her at the end of the arc.
  • Raised by Dudes: Kazuma's mother walked out on the family when he was little, leaving his dad to raise him.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: Definately the manly man to Heathcliffe's sensitive guy.
  • Shirtless Scene: In almost every arc, it is either outright stated or implied that Kazuma is shirtless for at least a portion of the arc.
  • Stock Shonen Protagonist: Acts like a sterotypical Shonen protagonist, even though Yuki-Rin is the viewpoint character.

Kartik Abingdon

  • Leitmotif: Word of God states that it's either Yours to Command by Rupesh Cartel or Echoes on 'A' Street by Dropkick Murphys.
  • Men Are Uncultured: Averted. While Kartik does enjoy fine literature, the opera, and the theater, we do see him in fight in very important fights, such as the fight against Kaoru and Mina.

Matsu Takeshima

  • Missing Mom: Her mother dies two years before the story begins while trying to protect the family yacht during a bad storm.
  • Unlucky Childhood Friend: She's grown up with Kartik all of her life, and she constantly wonders why Kartik won't take their relationship further. Plus, there's also Karin competing for Kartik's attention.

Karin Kotetsu

Z.G.

"Blind" Drusilla

  • Broken Bird: Was blinded by her father, who committed suicide shortly after she was blinded.
  • Disability Superpower: Drusilla may be blind, but she can make people relive their bad moments and she was an assassin for Cipher Pol before she, Karin, and Z.G. got fired and joined Yuki-Rin's crew.

Maki-chan

  • Put on a Bus: When was the last time Maki-chan spoke more than a brief sentence? Becomes averted by the beginning of the Project Mei Arc.

Hana Yakushi

Aria Yakushi

  • Girlish Pigtails: They're also in braids. It's also worth mentioning that Aria is eighteen-yea old Revolutionary who wears said braided pigtails.

Yulia Tadase

  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Yulia was forced to kill and steal from anybody on a certain island, including Daisuke's grandma.
  • The Mafiya: Originally came from one of these types of families before she was kidnapped and forced to kill.

Daisuke Saburo

  • Heroic BSoD: Occurs in the Project Mei/Time Traveller Arc TWICE. The first time occurs when he time travels with Apple and is forced to see Yulia killing his grandma in front of his eyes again. The second one occurs later on when Yulia almost dies at the hands of the Arc Villain.
  • Sex Slave: Was nearly forced to become one during the Triad Arc. Thankfully, he escapes from the Dragon Lady's brothel before anything bad happens to him.
  • Stepford Smiler: Played straight, because Daisuke had to witness his Vitriolic Best Bud, Yulia, kill his grandmother because she was Brainwashed and Crazy when it happened. It's also implied that Daisuke's grandma was either the only relative he had or that his grandma was his last known living relative before her death.

Sebastian Hozuki

  • Broken Bird: He saw his mother get stabbed to death by pirates in front of his very own eyes
  • Heroic BSoD: Gets one toward the end of the Restaurant Row Arc when his dad is almost forced to work at Sun-Ni's Noodle Shop. Fortunately, he recovers and is able to save the day.

Holden Sarutobi

  • Despair Event Horizon: Goes into one after seeing the murder of a Tenryuubito who was actually nice to everyone.
  • The Runaway: Ran away from his boarding school so he could find his brother, Heathcliffe.

Soren Sarutobi

  • The Runaway: Helps Holden run away from his boarding school so they could find Heathcliffe and stay with him no matter what.

Showtarou Shinohara

Ajax

  • Head Pet: The Head Pet to Showtarou.
  • Team Pet: Has the official crew ranking of "mascot".

Aki Chung-Feng

  • Arranged Marriage: Her arranged marriage to Gareth and the Capricorns trying to stop the marriage are what fuel the Noblesse Oblige Arc.
  • Bathing Beauty: Has had the most bathing/showering scenes out of all of the Capricorns.
  • Break the Cutie: Where do we start? First, her mother dies leaving her an orphan, then she becomes Kaoru and Mina's captive until their Heel–Face Turn, then she is a captive again, but, this time by the Baba Yaga, and, then, she had to face her evil aunt and prepare for possibly leaving the crew because of her Arranged Marriage to Gareth, which never happened.
  • Broken Bird: Her mother passed away shortly before she and Showtarou ended up with the Capricorn Pirates.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Happened to her at the climax of the Mr. Chung-Feng Arc where her own father took her spear, broke it, and used the same spear to nearly kill Heathcliffe. She isn't seen fighting again until the Fractured Fairy Tale Arc, where she fights off an Expy of the witch from Hansel and Gretel.
  • I Will Wait for You: Does this in the Noblesse Oblige Arc when she is taken away for her Arranged Marriage to Gareth and Heathcliffe vows to return her to the Capricorn Pirates.
  • Kimono Fanservice: Wears a short, white kimono while she is the captive of the Baba Yaga.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Occurs in the Triad Arc when she makes the Dragon Lady pay for almost forcing Daisuke to become a prostitute, kidnapping Enlai's sister and murdering his father, and for being indirectly responsible for almost killing Heathcliffe.
  • Yamato Nadeshiko: Wears a kimono, has long hair, pacient enough for I Will Wait For You' and enough inner steel to be a lady of war. An usual example in that a qippao is her normal attire and she wore the kimono while captive.

Kaoru Kimura

  • Our Vampires Are Different: Kaoru ate the Vampir Vampir no mi, which turns him into a vampire on the night of the full moon, or when he has to activate his powers.

Mina Nishikori

Ageha Midori

Akari Shimura

  • Modest Royalty: Besides having five servants, a bodyguard, and living in a royal palace, Akari doesn't seem too intrested in the royal life.
  • Parental Abandonment: Her mother died years before the story began and her step-mother was the Baba Yaga, who was killed when Shikari sacrificed her life by bringing both herself and the Baba Yaga to their deaths inside of a furnace.

Thierry Brighton

Gareth Archer

  • Green Thumb: Ate the Eco Eco no mi, which turns him into a tree and gives him tree-based fighting powers.

Dewey Kirihana

  • Parental Abandonment: His father is a Commodore in the Marines who transfers to the New World so he could be closer to Smoker.

Alec

Wolfgang Katsuragi

Enlai Li

  • Gratuitous Chinese: Has said a few Chinese words throughout the fic.
  • Parental Abandonment: His mother died giving birth to his little sister, and his father was murdered by the Dragon Lady.

Mikuri Matsumoto

  • Happily Married: To Sayuki. It was an arranged marriage, but they still love each other.

Sayuki Matsumoto

  • Berserk Button: Rubio learned this the hard way - Mess with Mikuri, and Sayuki will stab you with a large spear.

Rubio Lindocruz

  • Take a Third Option: At the end of the Last Samurai Arc, Rubio was either going to be executed by Kuro or forced to committ suicide to avoid execution. Instead, he faked his death and joined the Capricorns.

    Stockhom Sydrome Pirates

  • True Companions: While not as emphasized as the Capricorns, the Stockholm Syndromes are still nakama.

Yuriko Tsuchimiya

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: This is how she gets people to join her crew. She acts all nice and cool to them, and, then, she forces them into the crew whether they like it or not.

Kazura Shion

Zheng Nakamura

Rai D. Patel

Megumi Mint

Aida D. Marni

Tetra Yamine

Hyung-Win Park

Bao-Bao

Genevieve Greene

    Villains

Big Margo

Saint Ayame

Sun-Ni

  • Quirky Miniboss Squad: Is the head of Sun-Ni's Noodle Shop, which is one of the many fighting restaurants on the Restaurant Row.

Roscoe Delacroix

  • Attempted Rape: He is about to do this to Yuki-Rin at the climax of his battle against Kazuma, but Kazuma manages to slice off his leg so he could save Yuki-Rin.
  • Big Fancy House: His fight with Kazuma and Yuki-Rin takes place in his huge, guarded mansion.

The Tuxedo Penguin Pirates

  • Curtains Match the Window: In an odd way. Kuro and Chernyi have black hair, but their underlings, Ban and Shiro, wear the black clothing in the group. Ban and Shiro are white-haired, and Kuro and Chernyi wear black clothing.

The Baba Yaga (A.K.A. Akari's Mother and Shikari)

  • Heroic Sacrifice: Commits one for the good of the Kingdoms of Eternal Day and Night.
