Marinette Dupain-Cheng

  • Grew a Spine: Downplayed; While she's no Shrinking Violet, a key part of her overall arc is becoming more assertive and standing up for herself against friends and allies alike.
  • Loving a Shadow: Believed Adrien to be a thoughtful, compassionate, empathetic young man who sees the best in everyone. Over time, she comes to realize that was an overly generous interpretation of his character, as she gets a better view of his flaws. Especially after learning that he and Chat Noir are one and the same.
  • Relationship Upgrade: Asks Luka out at the end of Silence Can Be Beautiful; they're officially dating as of White Hot Morning.

Luka Couffaine

Juleka Couffaine

  • It's All My Fault: Blames herself for not managing to recover the stolen Cat from Worker Bee, claiming it was because she wasn't strong enough to handle Hawkmoth showing up.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Receives the Tiger Miraculous in The Radio Still Plays to become Tigresse Rayé and help fight Stage Fright.

Rose Lavilliant

  • A Day in the Limelight: Thinking of Ways takes place from her perspective, and explores her and the rest of Kitty Section finding out that Lila lied about knowing Prince Ali, as well as catching her threatening Marinette.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Receives the Pig Miraculous in The Radio Still Plays to become Princess Piggy and help fight Stage Fright.

Ivan Bruel

  • A Day in the Limelight: In the Paper Sky collection, It's Gonna Feel So Rare takes place in his perspective.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Receives the Ox Miraculous in The Radio Still Plays to become Taureau Furieux and help fight Beach Bum.
  • Younger Than They Look: When they celebrate his birthday in the fourth chapter of The Radio Still Plays, it's mentioned that despite being one of the biggest kids in their grade, Ivan is actually one of the youngest students, with his birthday falling at the end of July.

Adrien Agreste

  • A Day in the Limelight: Paper Sky offers two tales from his POV:
    • Hearing Only Yourself reveals his take on the museum incident, as well as how he overheard Alya and Marinette's argument and learned about the latter's crush.
    • My World is Wishing Me Asleep follows his perspective of certain events in All the Laughs, affirming how and why he fell for Miracle Queen's Mirage.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Miles away from the flawed yet genuinely sweet and easy-going boy of canon.
  • Derailing Love Interests: Dosed to the gills with Adaptational Jerkassery to make way for Marinette/Luka.
  • Entitled to Have You: So far as he's concerned, he and Ladybug have to be partners in the romantic sense, purely because that's what he wants. Ladybug just needs to get with the program already.
  • Extreme Doormat: Ironically, given how forceful he gets with Ladybug and his Secretly Selfish nature, Adrien remains unwilling to rock the boat when it comes to things like the situation with Lila. His first instinct when faced with any kind of disagreement is to try and paper things over, and he often pushes the wounded party to be the one who apologizes.
  • Fatal Flaw: His belief that Ladybug must return his feelings despite all evidence to the contrary bites him HARD when Miracle Queen exploits it through a Mirage. Rather than questioning why his partner has changed her tune so abruptly, he happily kisses her, and gets the ring stolen and his identity exposed as a result.
  • Foil:
    • To himself in the penultimate chapter of Silence Can Be Beautiful, as the amnesiac Chat Noir doesn't share his sense of entitlement and offers a glimpse of what he could be like if he genuinely wanted Ladybug to be happy instead of just wanted her.
    • He also serves as one to Alya. See her entry for more details.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Towards Viperion, immediately identifying him as a potential romantic rival.
  • Ignored Epiphany: Despite having done plenty of things that could trigger one, the closest he's come is feeling mildly guilty about accidentally eavesdropping on a private conversation between Marinette and Alya. Which he blames both of them for.
  • It's All About Me: Puts his feelings and desires over everyone else, and refuses to acknowledge that this causes any problems. This proves so severe that he blames Plagg for being captured and forced to work with Feline Fatale.
  • Jerkass Realization: Ultimately has one that sticks after Gabriel is unmasked as Hawkmoth, as this forces him to realize that his complete disregard for what others wanted was just like his father.
  • Loving a Shadow: Doesn't love Ladybug so much as he loves her appearance; he rejects her personality and priorities for not lining up perfectly with his desires, and falls for Miracle Queen's Mirage because she presents her as timid, apologetic and submissive.
  • Never My Fault: Insists that Ladybug is the one being unreasonable and ruining their partnership while acting out and refusing to work properly with her. Also lowkey blames Marinette and Alya for the awkward manner in which he finally learned about her crush, even though he put himself in that position with an ill-considered prank.
  • Skewed Priorities:
    • So far as he's concerned, having Ladybug as his 'girlfriend' matters more than dealing with the akuma or actually listening to anything she has to say that isn't what he wants to hear. This ultimately costs him the Cat, in the worst possible way.
    • When he sees the damage done when Feline Fatale rampages across Paris, he's far more focused on the idea that they're ruining the Cat's reputation, even going so far as to hold Plagg responsible for 'letting himself be used like that'.
  • Thinks Like a Romance Novel: Believes that all his efforts will pay off eventually, no matter how much Ladybug refuses. All she's doing is dragging things out unnecessarily by being stubborn, right?

Alya Cesaire

  • A Day in the Limelight: I Owe You Every Joy of Love follows her perspective of the estrangement over the summer.
  • Fatal Flaw: Once she's set her mind to something, good luck getting her to change course. She'll just keep barging forward, secure in her belief that she has the right of things, despite any evidence to the contrary.
  • Foil: To Nino, Chloé, Adrien and Felix.
    • Both her and Nino take the news about being benched differently. Alya treats the situation like she lost the Fox entirely (thanks to Lila convincing her that Ladybug was withholding the truth) while Nino realizes that he still has a chance to earn his place back. This plays a role in getting Alya to come around and apologize to Ladybug.
    • Both Alya and Chloé betray Ladybug's trust in some fashion, with Alya posting the edited video of Chat's confession, and Chloé continuing to bully and harass people as a civilian. However, Alya eventually sees the error of her ways, while Chloé doesn't.
    • Similarly, both she and Adrien/Chat Noir have very strong opinions about who Marinette/Ladybug should end up with, and attempt to impose their will upon her over her protests. Again, Alya has a self-revelation about her behavior in time to try changing her ways, while Adrien doesn't even have any epiphany to ignore before serious consequences catch up with him.
    • Felix effectively steps into the role she had the year before when he arrives, being a New Transfer Student who's very interested in learning everyone's secrets. He looks down on her and the Ladyblog for her mistakes, even as he makes his own, stamping on and ignoring the feelings of others in much the same way she did in his pursuit of the truth.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Has a bad tendency to see what she wants to see in others, such as her firm belief that Lila is just as sweet as she seems and that Marinette's distaste for her is based entirely in jealousy.
  • It's All About Me: Nora accuses her of this after she accidentally skips out on her babysitting duties, then tries to defend herself by revealing she was trying to help her friends with their romantic troubles.
  • Never My Fault: Bounces back and forth; While she doesn't see anything wrong with how she edited that footage, she acknowledges that Hawkmoth following her blog would be a very bad thing... then later decides there's no way he's actually doing that. As time goes on, she grapples with how, if she accepts she's been wrong, actually admitting it means facing consequences she'd rather not have to deal with.
  • Phoneaholic Teenager: Lila observes at one point that Alya is nearly constantly on her phone, making it tricky for her to swipe it for her scheming.
  • Shipper on Deck: For Marinette/Adrien and Ladybug/Chat Noir, which causes no small amount of problems.
  • Skewed Priorities: Decided that having 'exclusive footage' of a supposed LadyNoir hookup was more important than respecting the heroes' boundaries or even reporting things accurately or truthfully. This also gets her into serious trouble with her family for putting the Ladyblog, dating Nino and trying to get her friends together romantically over things like her studies or other responsibilities.
  • Thinks Like a Romance Novel: Thinks she just needs to find the right Zany Scheme to help Marinette and Adrien hook up. Honestly thinks that Ladybug is only upset about her supporting her ship and is overreacting to her edited video. Accuses Marinette of only dating Luka to make Adrien jealous — and more tellingly, doesn't see anything wrong with that, completely disregarding how Luka might feel about being used in that fashion or that Lila might be less than thrilled about being involved in a similar scheme without being asked first.

Nino Lahiffe

  • A Day in the Limelight: The Hour Glass is Drifting Away takes place in his perspective.
  • Accomplice by Inaction: Didn't help Alya with her plan to edit the footage she took of the Obliviated Chat Noir and Ladybug; however, he also didn't do anything to stop her. This gets Carapace benched right alongside Rena Rouge for the summer.
  • Exact Words: Carefully tells Ladybug that no, he hadn't heard about Rena being sidelined for the summer... as Alya had told him she'd been permanently retired, and he didn't want to risk upsetting Ladybug any further by revealing the exaggerated version of events he'd been told.
  • Foil: Serves as one to Alya when dealing with their superhero personas being benched, and helps her reach her Jerkass Realization as a result.

Lila Rossi

  • A Day in the Limelight: Counting Stars in Her Perfume Jar shows her learning of Alya attempting to use her for her Operation: Jealousy and stealing her phone, and eventually gaining Duusu.
  • Asshole Victim: This is shown to be Nathalie's self-justification for passing on a damaged Miraculous. Lila reminds her of the girls who used to bully her, so she has no moral qualms about manipulating her.
  • Consummate Liar: She successfully manages to convince most of Bustier's class that she's traveled around the world and befriended various celebrities. She also convinced most of the class that Marinette is being a bully to her when it's actually the opposite.
    • However, most of the class changes their opinion regarding Lila in Thinking of Ways when Rose, Juleka and Ivan break the news about Lila lying about knowing Prince Ali. The only ones that don't appear to be swayed are Alya, Nino and Kim.
  • Crocodile Tears: Fond of employing these while Playing the Victim Card.
  • Culture Justifies Anything: Attempts to invoke this after greeting Luka in a flirtatious manner, claiming it's a normal way of greeting people in Italy. Luka doesn't buy it, but Alya does when she retells the incident to her.
  • Evil Is Petty: Immediately starts flirting with Luka on sight purely because he was with Marinette, and she's determined to take everything away from her.
  • I Have Many Names: After she gains the Peafowl Pin, she gives herself multiple aliases: first Incantratrice Blu, then Fenice Luminosa.
  • It's All About Me: The reason why she lies is because she wants all the attention and praise. She has also shown signs of being a narcissist.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Is on the receiving end of this when she attempts to get Alya expelled by setting her up to look like she cheated on a test and stole from her friends. She doesn't count on Chloé teaming up with Marinette, Felix and the others to not only prove that Alya was innocent, but that Lila teamed up with Hawkmoth.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Downplayed. She obtains the Peafowl Miraculous and becomes Incantatrice Blu. However, using it will make her sick, since the Miraculous is damaged.
  • Toxic Friend Influence: Encourages Alya to question and second-guess Marinette's motives for 'taking a break'.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Downplayed; it's made very clear that Gabriel and Nathalie both see her as such, treating her as disposable enough to make a good candidate for using the Peafowl Miraculous.

Chloé Bourgeois

  • Evil Is Petty: Downplayed. While Chloé isn't evil, Marinette has noted on a few occasions that Chloé still seems to be pretty mean overall. At the movie premiere, Chloé says she intends to put Kagami in her place, hinting that Chloé tried to sabotage her date with Adrien by herself.
  • Foil: To Alya. Both girls do something to betray Ladybug's trust. While it takes Alya a while to do so, she does eventually come around and see the error of her ways. Chloé, on the other hand, is content to continue bullying and harassing people.
  • Ignored Epiphany: When Marinette points out that Ladybug wouldn't approve of her bullying, she looks briefly concerned before dismissing her as jealous of her heroine status.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Gets sniped by this when her decision to pick on Aurore leads directly to her getting stripped of the Bee.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Has a moment of this after learning that she successfully helped Hawkmoth obtain the Cat.
    • "Cyclone Full on Feeling" delves deeper into this, exploring her regrets in the wake of the above incident as well as the consequences she's been coping with since then.

Master Fu

  • Adaptational Backstory Change: While he was training with the Guardians, he made friends with Bo, who wound up betraying the order. The Butterfly and Peacock were both lost in the ensuing conflict. Fu holds himself responsible for this, and sees similarities between his circumstances and elements of Marinette's plight, leading him to share his story with her in hopes that it will help her find her way.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Proves to be a patient and understanding mentor, working with Marinette and encouraging her to trust her judgment more. When she makes mistakes, he doesn't hold them over her head, but treats them as learning experiences.

Jagged Stone

Penny

Ruby

  • Celeb Crush: A Bottle of Exquisite Stuff reveals that her celeb crush is Hayley Kiyoko.
  • The Intern: Under Jagged Stone and Penny.
  • Take Me Instead: Does this in order to distract Reflekdoll from Jagged Stone.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: She's introduced in the third chapter of White Hot Morning, hiding with Jagged and admitting to accidentally throwing out Juleka's figurines. She didn't intend to upset Juleka enough to get her akumatized, she was just trying to do her job and got overwhelmed.

Aurore Beaureal

  • Reformed, but Rejected: Grapples with a Downplayed version of this; following the Weather Girl incident, she's tried to improve her image, but fears that others will only see Stormy Weather when they see her. A fear that Chloé stomped hard on.
  • Wham Line: Is the one to reveal to Marinette that Alya put the Ladyblog on hiatus.

Mirielle Cauquet

  • Instant Humiliation: Just Add YouTube!: The reason behind her akumatization into Stage Fright. Alec planned to sabotage her performance at Summer Sesh to create a viral video. She may not have been the only victim of this either...
  • Properly Paranoid: Her worries about her scheduled performance at Summer Sesh prove apt when she discovers that Alec intended to ruin it all along.

Colette

  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Is cousins with Vivica.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Chapter 12 of There's a Horror in My Head shows Colette noticing an akuma at Adrien's party, and preventing it from touching Wayhem by helping him get passed the bodyguard.
  • Team Mom: Her interlude hints that she may be developing into one of these.

Vivica

Alec Cataldi

  • Adaptational Jerkass: Rather than being Innocently Insensitive, Alec is entirely aware of the effect his words can have on others, intentionally antagonizing Aurore over the Weather Girl contest. He also harassed Vivica enough to create Desperada, and planned on humiliating Mirielle at Summer Sesh, sabotaging her performance in hopes of creating a viral video out of the results.
  • Complexity Addiction: His plans for Summer Sesh were rather needlessly complicated; rather than simply focusing on delivering the best show possible, he planned to humiliate Mirielle and potentially others by sabotaging their performances, believing that he could deliberately engineer viral videos mocking their misfortune.
  • Didn't Think This Through: The guy decided to deliberately humiliate performers at Summer Sesh despite the existence of an emotion-exploiting terrorist who had previously taken advantage of his actions and empowered his victims.

Mylène Haprèle

  • Took a Level in Badass: Receives the Mouse Miraculous in The Radio Still Plays to become Mouseketeer and help fight Beach Bum.

Félix Graham de Vanily

  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: A Bottle of Exquisite Stuff reveals that he is the great-grandson Marianne was talking about. However, he still remains cousins with Adrien.
  • A Day in the Limelight: And It Won't Be Long is his Paper Sky chapter. It's written as a series of journal entries.
  • Foil: To Alya, stepping into the role of 'New student with an interest in investigation and a bad habit of ignoring the human factor in the process of pursuing answers'. He also looks down upon her for the mistakes she made with the Ladyblog, even while making missteps that fall along the same general lines.
  • Not Here To Make Friends: Non-competitive version. He doesn't particularly care about his new classmates and peers; he just wants to learn everything he can about what's been going on with the 'Akuma Incubation Class', along with every other secret he can ferret out.
  • Smug Smiler: Prone to sporting such expressions.
  • Wild Card: His nosiness makes him a threat to Marinette and her allies who's unrelated to Hawkmoth.

Kagami Tsurugi

  • A Day in the Limelight: Tears Are in Your Eyes Tonight from Paper Sky chronicles her view of various events leading up to her akumatization into Friend Zone.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Like in canon, she receives the Dragon Miraculous when her mother is akumatized. Unlike there, her secret identity isn't compromised.
  • Woman Scorned: She's none too pleased when anyone interferes with her time with Adrien, and gets akumatized into Friend Zone when she realizes that he never defends himself... or defends her from being harassed and insulted.

Gabriel Agreste

  • Even Evil Has Standards: When the opportunity arises, he immediately has Nathalie stop using the Peacock and switch to the Cat, not wanting her to risk her health any further with the broken Miraculous. Played With, however, in that he has no problem passing the Peacock on to Lila and letting her risk her health.
  • Evil Gloating: Goes so far with this that he's willing to taunt his own son by declaring that Emilie will die without his help, though Ladybug notes that he's choking back tears as he does so.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Not only is he willing to do whatever it takes to get the Ladybug and Cat away from their teenage bearers, he arranges for Lila to receive the Peacock.

Nathalie Sancoeur

  • Would Hurt a Child: Just like her boss. She even smiles knowingly when setting up Lila for the Brooch, fully aware of what sort of agony the girl will likely suffer when using its powers.
