The Main Trio

    In General

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/untitled_1_823.jpg

  • Anti-Hero Team: Despite being street racers and getaway drivers, their purpose is to stop The House from taking over Fortune Valley.
  • Arc Words: The crew's motivational mantra: "I got this."
  • Badass Crew: Tyler, Mac, and Jess. These three are the guys who can take on The House. Together.
  • Badass Driver: Natch. Jess especially, seeing as she's the one who handles the brunt of the police chases.
  • Cool Car: Obviously, each of the three have a ride to go along with it.
  • Determinator: Three members in a crew against a full house of the House. They will stop at nothing to liberate Silver Rock from the hands of the House.
  • Experienced Protagonist: The trio are already expert racers and heist specialists at the start of the story.
  • Freudian Trio: As stated on the main page, the trio is set up as this.
  • Party Scattering: Earlier in the prologue, they were a Badass Crew with Lina alongside them. After stealing the Koenigsegg from Marcus, Lina betrays Tyler, Mac, and Jess when she sets them up to take the fall, leaving them to be at the mercy of the cops, splitting the team for good… or at least for 6 months.
  • Revenge: The Central Theme of the game.

    Tyler

Tyler "Ty" Morgan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/itpdsdr4.jpg

Car: Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec (R34), SPOILER CAR, player's choice (Race and Drag class only)

Hails from: The Barrio, Silver Rock

Portrayed by: Jack Derges

"It's never been about luck."

One of the three main protagonists and the leader of the crew. An experienced skilled street racer at only 24 years old who specializes in Race and Drag events.

After Lina betrayed the whole crew, Tyler was left in the mercy of Marcus for stealing his Koenigsegg Regera. Deciding to protect Tyler from being arrested by the corrupted FVPD, Marcus recruits him as his personal valet driver.

Determined to bring down the House from taking over Silver Rock and the whole of Fortune Valley, Tyler bands with Mac and Jess, with the help from Marcus himself, to pull off the ultimate payback.

  • The Ace: Tyler is be an Extremity Extremist in Race and Drag events but he can do other classes as well.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: Subverted. Despite being The Leader of the crew, Tyler is also the youngest, at only 24, as oppose to Mac's and Jess's 32 and 27 respectively.
  • Born Winner: It's what Ty was destined for. He even proclaims that he's the best racer in town.
    Tyler: Racking up the wins.
  • Childhood Friend: With Jess, Lina (formerly) and Gallo.
  • Deadpan Snarker: What else can you expect from this sarcastic racer?
  • The Driver: He had to work as a valet for Marcus to avoid jail time, being assigned as Marcus's top luxury car deliveryman.
  • The Gift: Born a natural-aspirated racer with lots of killer instincts whether in a street race or the drag strip.
  • House Fire: During the prologue, his house was blown up by Lina, both as retaliation for ruining a rigged race, and as warning not to do it again. Had Tyler been a solo act at that time, it might have worked. Unfortunately, he was considering working together with Marcus to bring down the House, and this just reaffirmed his will to work together with Marcus to bring the House down- marking the beginning of things going badly for the House.
  • Ink-Suit Actor: Modeled after his voice actor.
  • Invisible Parents: Tyler's parents are only mentioned in one line made by Marcus during the game's prologue.
Marcus Weir: Tyler Morgan. Twenty-three years old. Mother Sylvia Morgan, father unknown, so sad.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: While Tyler may be sarcastic and cocky on the streets, he still shows genuine care and selflessness to Mac, Jess and the allies he trust.
  • The Lancer: To Marcus Weir. He kinda objects to his principles.
  • The Leader: Tyler is the leader of his crew.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: During the "House-rigged race" in the Prologue, he grew tired of waiting and decided to disobey Marcus's deal to wait for the right time to strike back against the House. He decided that he wants to do the job done immediately by joining a House race and pose as "Kingsnake" to rub salt on Lina wounds for her betrayal. But with Tyler blurting out his motivation against Lina suddenly blows his cover and chances to taking down the House, which leads to Lina threatening Tyler to be a marked target, and even causing a House Fire. He should have listened to what Marcus said about "when the cards come down".
  • Nominal Hero: His main goal is to bring down the House and liberate Fortune Valley. But what matters to Tyler is to get payback against Lina Navarro for betraying him.
  • Renaissance Man: Apart from Tyler being The Ace as mentioned above, He drove a Runner car during "The Highway Heist" and during the second leg of the the Outlaw’s Rush, he drove one of Mac's offroad cars for the event.
  • Trading Bars for Stripes: Downplayed. To serve for his crime of stealing the Koenigsegg, Tyler must work for Marcus as a valet driver. This later blossoms into a full alliance against the House.
  • Wrong Side of the Tracks: He was born in The Barrio, a low-income neighborhood, bur was raised in the shadows of the casinos. Truth in Television: "barrio" also means a neighborhood in the United States (usually a Spanish-speaking city) known for its high poverty.

    Mac

Sean "Mac" McAlister

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ltpdsr8.png

Car: Chevrolet Bel Air Sport Coupe, player's choice (Drift, Offroad and Speedcross class only), SPOILER CAR, OTHERS

Hails from: Hackney, London, United Kingdom

Portrayed By: David Ajala

"Focus, Mac. Gotta get through this. Find your smile."

One of the three main protagonists and the showman of the crew. A British stylish street racer at 32 years old who specializes in Drift, Offroad and Speedcross events.

Mac was born and raised from Hackney, London and used to run a crew that boosted cars back in his hometown, where he learned the art of drifting quickly. But he decided to pursue and live the American Dream in Fortune Valley, because he has passion for big, muscle cars and liking the open roads.

Motivated by Tyler via phone call to bring back the crew for the ultimate payback against the House, Mac immediately joins, alongside Jess.

  • Beware the Silly Ones: He maybe a Big Fun, but he's dead serious when it comes to taking down the FVPD or House mooks.
  • Big Badass Rig: The Mac Attack. Seriously, it's a Kenworth semi-trailer he hijacked during "Double or Nothing". He later uses the same truck alongside The Cavalry to plow through all of the cops at the airfield, saving Tyler's rear during the Outlaw's Rush.
Mac: The Mac Attack 2: Mac Strikes back!
  • Big Fun: Mac is the big amusement of the crew. Loves stylish racing and has a Large Ham to go with his character.
  • The Big Guy: Besides being physically the biggest of his crew, his "Mac Attack" is a Big Badass Rig, so it's by far the biggest vehicle in it.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Mac becomes the central character of "Mac: Speedcross" a DLC storyline, alongside with Rav as the deuteragonist.
  • Drives Like Crazy: Unlike Tyler or Jess, Mac just loves taking his car for a joyride. From drifting to going off the track to even driving a truck and plow through a lot of FVPD mooks. Earlier in the prologue, Mac drifts the BRZ around so hard that made HashTiger throw up.
HashTiger: Hey Mac, did you get a shot of me puking?
  • Going Native: From England to America. Mac, who is British decided to settle in Fortune Valley to live The American Dream. This lead to him liking the open road and clear skies and the thrills in high speed driving, something his country didn't offer.
  • Ink-Suit Actor: Modeled after his voice actor.
  • Large Ham: Mac loves being loud. Let's just say that he rarely keeps his mouth shut.
    Mac: Air Mac!
  • Mission Control: He's the eye of the sky during "The Highway Heist". He communicates to Ty and Jess via online drone and keeps update about the truck and the lookout for any House mooks.
  • Mythology Gag: Mac (who might possibly be him) appears as a random opponent in Heat. Maybe Mac wants to continue expanding his stylish rep in Palm City?
  • Nice Guy: Mac is among the friendliest and the nicest in the crew.
  • The Nicknamer: For his Big Fun to go with it, he loves poking HashTiger.
Mac: Heeey! Hushpuppy! Big fan of your channel!
    HashTiger: It's HashTiger.
  • Perpetual Smiler: You will rarely see Mac frowning through the majority of the story.

    Jess

Jessica "Jess" Miller

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/images_0343.jpg

Car: BMW M5 (F90), Audi S5 Sportback (B9) (used when working for others), player's choice (Runner class only)

Hails from: Mount Providence, Fortune Valley

Portrayed by: Jessica Madsen

"Six months later and the first time I hear from you, you need something from me?"

One of the three main protagonists and the wheelman of the crew. A level-headed Getaway Driver and covert specialist at only 27 years old who specializes in Runner operations.

After the Party Scattering, six months later, Jess does high-risk jobs for other clients around Silver Rock. When Ty called her up about the plan, she was reluctant at first, but only doing this for the job, not for the thrills. Despite this, she assures to keep Ty and Mac safe while she provides intel (as provided from the Broker) from the House to gain advantage enough to pull the ultimate payback.

  • Car Fu: Unlike Ty's or Mac's car class, Jess is the only one who can wreck cops or House mooks easily, even just one touch would immediately wreck them! And that it the central theme for Runner class cars.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Not herself, but her cars-the Runner class- are this trope, with very dark purple paint and heavily tinted windows as-default. note
  • Designated Point Man: As a Runner, she does undercover operatives within the House as provided by the Broker.
  • The Driver: Apart from her job as a Getaway Driver, she also does covert courier jobs for House clients.
  • Enemy Mine: One mission has her drive Lina Navarro straight to her destination. All this just to get some intel from the House for the crew.
  • Escape Artist: As a Getaway Driver, performing high-risk jobs, escaping the cops frequently and keeping a low profile is her extreme specialty, that is to the point Paulie in one mission title drops this trope.
Paulie: You really are an escape artist.
  • Getaway Driver: Unlike Tyler or Mac who are street racers, Jess on the other hand is this trope to a T. Very skilled in escaping the cops and is the only one who can wreck them easily.
Jess: I built this ride just for you boys. Let’s dance.
  • Hood Hopping: During the Highway Heist, This is how Jess needs to get in the truck from Ty’s Mustang. note
  • Ink-Suit Actor: Modeled after her voice actress.
  • Large Ham: She rarely keeps her mouth shut. She's not as loud as Mac, though.
  • The Smurfette Principle: Jess is the some female member of the crew and acts as its heart; while reluctant at first to regroup the crew, she eventually accepts and assures to keep Ty and Mac safe.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: Averted. It is what Jess thinks of Tyler and Mac at first after 6 months, but she warms up and supports both when she starts her Runner operations.
  • Tsundere: Type B. She is the level-headed among the crew, and the only time she was harsh is during the Prologue, when Tyler calls up about his “stupid” plan.

Allies of the Trio

    Rav

Ravindra "Rav" Chaudhry

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/untitled_1_44.jpg

Car: Volkswagen Beetle 1200 Sunroof Sedan

Hails from: Singapore

Portrayed by: Ramon Tikaram

"Given enough time and attention, an artist can turn a pile of scrap into a supercar."

An accomplice of Tyler, Mac and Jess. Rav is a mechanical genius who specializes in tuning and fitting cars for the three.

He settles in an abandoned Airfield 73, which was lated converted into his personal garage for the crew. As what his quote states, he can make any kind of sports car he wishes to do out of a pile of scrap metal, hence given the name "The Alchemist".

  • Ascended Extra: Rav was later promoted from supporting character to deuteragonist for the Speedcross storyline.
  • But Not Too Foreign: He's Singaporean, but was raised by Bengali parents.
  • Distressed Dude: Rav got knocked out by Lina after Tyler brings the Koenigsegg he stole, which results in Lina's betrayal.
  • The Engineer: Mechanic to be exact, which gives him the title, "The Alchemist".
  • Genius Bruiser: The brains when it comes to tuning and building tech, but doesn't stop him from being an skillful driver.
  • Nice Guy: Rav is friendly and adviceful as he can be.
  • The Shut-In: He works and stays in the garage, but never leaves, unless he's needed in missions.
  • Tyop on the Cover: His intro title misspelled his surname as "Choudry" instead of "Chaudhry".
  • What a Piece of Junk: His off-road build of the old Volkswagen Beetle surely packs quite a punch.

    Marcus

Marcus Weir

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screen_shot_2020_07_17_at_10916_pm.png

Car: Koenigsegg Regera, Aston Martin DB11

Hails from: Unknown

Portrayed by: Robert James

"Imagine a city where risk is an illusion and every bet is rigged. That's what the House wants."

An obsessive gambler and owner of Elysium Casino (and several other casinos) in Silver Rock, and one of the primary supporters of Tyler's crew.

Marcus initially recruited Tyler to test out his Koenigsegg Regera in a race, but when the latter subsequently absconded with the car and lost it to Lina Navarro, who had secretly been working for the House, leaving Tyler to be hunted by the cops, Marcus gave Tyler a choice: work for him until the time is right to exact revenge, or go to jail.

Fast-forward six months, when Tyler's patience ran out while working as Marcus's valet, and he attempted to pull a one-man undercover crusade against the House, Marcus catches on and decides to build on Tyler's plan as a way to not only get back at the House, but help Tyler bring the street races of Fortune Valley back to their former glory. He later gives leads to the crew regarding several tasks, such as beating street leagues for Tyler and Mac, and gaining House intel for Jess.

  • All or Nothing: Just before the final race of the Outlaw's Rush, Marcus places one final—and, as is his wont, risky—bet to Lina. If Lina wins, the House own everything, including his casino. If Tyler wins, the House will be forced to go bankrupt, by compensating everyone for every single street race they rigged, and leave Fortune Valley for good.
    Marcus Weir: All in.
  • Cool Car: Marcus's collection features a selection of high end and luxurious sports cars inside his casino's garage, such as the Koenigsegg Regera and the Aston Martin DB11 that he usually drives around in.
  • Deadpan Snarker: He likes to pepper his words with lots of sarcasm, much to Tyler's dismay.
  • The Gambler: Beyond this trope being his nickname, Marcus is the owner of Elysium Casino and one of the few characters who, from the outset of Payback, are fully aware that the House is gunning for control of Fortune Valley's riches, including his casino, but they are not a group that he alone can take on. Him throwing a lifeline to Tyler to work directly under him (and, later on, to Tyler's crew by hooking them up with reliable intel on House movements) is also a lifeline to himself, because he took the driving ability of Tyler more seriously than most other people did, and ultimately used it not only to further his own ends and earn him the respect of Arkwright, but to help Tyler get back at the House and Lina Navarro, ultimately evicting the former from Fortune Valley entirely and bringing their reign of rigged street racing to an end.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He can be very sarcastic like Tyler, but he expresses his utmost support to the crew.
  • Large Ham: Most of the time, he can be sarcastically loud, just to liven up some action.
  • Mission Control: He leads the crew to what tasks Tyler, Mac and Jess have to do in order to enlist Tyler to the Outlaw's Rush so they can give the ultimate payback to Lina Navarro and end the House's reign in Fortune Valley.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Marcus may often look like an absent-minded fool, but this is a front to conceal his reputation as a Professional Gambler. At the beginning of Payback, When Tyler jacked his Koenigsegg Regera and attempted to run with it, Marcus actually dropped this facade and warned Tyler in a no-nonsense tone that what he was doing will not go down well for both of them, which Tyler ignored, resulting in Marcus losing his Regera to the House and Lina completing her Face–Heel Turn.
  • Professional Gambler: Marcus's gambling commodity is not in money or chips, but in people and the fate of Fortune Valley as a whole. His wealth is built on the backbone of casinos in Silver Rock and having a penchant for taking impossible odds and long shots and actually winning. Despite seemingly being a Cloudcuckoolander at times, he has a sharp wit and an even sharper sense of knowing what needs to be done at the right time, as well as investing just enough resources in the right kind of people, then trusting them to do what they do best.
  • The Strategist: Everything that Marcus does is a calculated move—throwing a lifeline to Tyler despite him losing the Regera to the House and giving Tyler's crew intel on House movements so they know where and when to act, among other things. While Tyler's crew may be doing all the dirty work on the streets, it is Marcus who is ultimately calling all the shots to hit the House where it really hurts the most, and it usually ends well for both him and Tyler's crew.
  • Tranquil Fury: Marcus never raises his voice throughout the game, but his extremely abrasive behaviour towards Tyler after the latter essentially "gave" his Regera to the House over the course of six months serves as a very good indicator of just how pissed he was at the driver.
  • Welcomed to the Masquerade: After Tyler beats Lina and wins the Outlaw's Rush for Silver Rock, resulting in the House having to remove themselves from Fortune Valley completely, Kobashi contacts Marcus on the phone, praising him for his ruthless, yet elegant, play against the House and the Collector, and welcoming him to Arkwright.

    The Broker

Car: Porsche Panamera Turbo (971)

"Call me the Broker."

A mysterious contact who is against the House's ordeals.

Little is known about her, she is Jess superior and assigns her in multiple tasks to providing intel about the House.

  • And the Adventure Continues: In the aftermath of the Outlaw Rush and the House's departure, the Broker also leaves Fortune Valley for Japan to start her undercover operation against Kobashi.
  • Greater-Scope Paragon: Being Jess's superior, she is the Collector's opposite.
  • Hacker Collective: Her motivation is to incriminate what the House are up to and exploit it in order to bring them down.
  • She Who Must Not Be Seen: She keeps her personal identity a mystery.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: As a covert specialist who conceals her identity, she is just simply addressed as The Broker.
  • The Voice: Only her voice is heard, hence keeping her appearance as confidential.

The House

    Lina

Lina Navarro

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nfspb_lina_navarro.jpg

Car: McLaren P1, OTHERS

Hails from: The Barrio, Silver Rock

Portrayed by: Dominique Tipper

"Didn't Rav tell you what's under the hood? My buyers are paying a fortune for it."

The main antagonist of the game.

Lina is introduced as "the best fixer in Silver Rock" by Tyler, having grew up with him and joined his crew. However, she suddenly betrayed them and let them take the fall for the theft of a Koenigsegg Regera in favor of ruthlessly pursuing her own ambitions with The House, a notorious cartel operated by The Collector who controls the street races in Silver Rock.

Her motivation is to reshape Silver Rock and Fortune Valley to her and the House's liking by illegally taking over the FVPD under their payroll, rigging street races and an attempt to seize Marcus Weir's casino. But mostly, her motivation is to get rid of Tyler, Mac and Jess from interfering with the House's plans.

  • Bait the Dog: She was with Tyler's crew, but only to reveal her true nature as being in favor for the House, betraying them.
  • Big Bad: Not just the main antagonist of Payback, but the second female main antagonist of the whole franchise after Chase Linh of Undercover.
  • Bolivian Army Ending: Pretty much the very last we see of her after she's beaten. She's surrounded by House goons as the Collector tells her that he will punish her for her failure, but her fate afterwards isn't revealed.
  • Cool Car: She drives a McLaren P1 in Payback and, assuming she's the same person, a Koenigsegg Regera in Heat.
  • The Dragon: To the Collector, who is the head of the House.
  • Evil Wears Black: After revealing her true colors by betraying Tyler and his crew, she starts wearing only black and driving around in a black McLaren P1. Tellingly enough, she didn't wear black before the betrayal, but the Corvette C7 she drove during that time was also black.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Guess who betrayed Tyler, Mac, and Jess? All those set-ups are for the favor of the House.
  • Final Boss: She's the very last racer you go up against in the game, her McLaren P1 and all.
  • The Heavy: The House are the main villains of the game, with their plan to take control of Fortuna Valley, but as their Dragon, her conflict with Tyler and his crew is what drives plot of the game.
  • Ink-Suit Actor: Modeled after her voice actress, haircut and all.
  • It's All About Me: Sold out Tyler and his crew, with whom she was also acquainted with, for her own benefit.
  • It's Personal with the Dragon: Giving Lina a taste of her own medicine is what matters more to Tyler than bringing down the House. But after Tyler’s house was blown up by Lina as a warning, it convinces the former to set up the ultimate payback.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: All the House work has bitten her in the arse at the end after Tyler’s crew exploits her in the ultimate payback and in the Outlaw’s Rush.
  • Lured into a Trap: Lina is the mastermind of all the set-ups, as what the main page states.
    • The prologue, while Lina was with Tyler’s crew, she sets them up and seizes the Regera for herself to deliver it to the Collector.
    • She also was the one who blows up Tyler’s house, ensuring that he does not go home. Explains why Tyler took the fall.
    • Lina ensures that any of Fortune Valley’s street leagues must be subjected to work for the House, meaning will take the fall in rigged races. 3 out of the 10 leagues complied.
    • Lastly, Lina plants bombs on the Collector’s two gilded cars to ensure that Tyler’s crew would take the fall to steal them. It miserably failed.
  • The Mole: Sets up Tyler and his crew the whole time during the prologue. All this time, she was working for the House and just pretending to be working with Tyler, just to get intel for any of their upcoming set-ups.
  • Mythology Gag: Like Mac, Lina (who might be her) also appears as a random opponent in Heat, driving a Koenigsegg Regera.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Blowing up Tyler's house as a warning might have worked had he been a solo act and not considering an alliance with Marcus against the House. Unfortunately, he was, and this reaffirms his will to bring down the House by allying with Marcus, marking the beginning of things going south for the House's control of street races.
  • Sassy Black Woman: What would you expect from this Jerkass black-cladded, trash-talking African-American?
  • Smug Snake: Is she ever. Even while she's failed the Collector countless times, she still takes time to taunt Tyler and his crew despite him effectively smoking whatever opposition she throws his way. It isn't until Tyler finally beats her in the Outlaw's Rush and the Collector disposes of her that she gets the hint.
  • Uncertain Doom: She is left in the mercy of the House's goons for her failures, although the cutscene ends before it's revealed what they did to her.
  • Villainous Breakdown: She starts losing her facade as the three protagonists manage to go through her tricks and traps.
  • We Used to Be Friends: With Tyler.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: With Lina in hot water, the Collector regrets hiring Lina for her failures, with the House turning against her.

    The Collector

Car: Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG (W463) (as a bait car), Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 (as a bait car), Acura NSX (NC1) (seen in the ending)

"Their leader is called the Collector. And he's got one addiction: cars."
Marcus Weir

The head of the House, and Lina Navarro's boss.

As his name indicates, The Collector is a very serious car collector. Apart from his hobby, he also looks over Lina Navarro, his enforcer, to take over Silver Rock's street racing scene and gain control of the crew, just for his cause.

  • The Collector: Exactly What It Says on the Tin. Marcus's quote mentioned above doubles as a Meaningful Name since he has passion for collecting exotic cars… illegally, such as ordering the steal of Marcus's Koenigsegg Regera.
  • Conspicuous Consumption: He has two gilded sports cars; the Mercedes G63 and the Aventador. Both used as a bait by planting hidden detonators inside it in case the crew hijack them. It backfired when the bombs were disarmed and used to explode the bridge that blocks the FVPD.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: While Lina is the visible villain of the game, The Collector and his House are the ones she works for.
  • He Who Must Not Be Seen: The Collector never reveals himself in the open.
  • Lured into a Trap: The Collector loves to pull tricks on Tyler’s crew. He’s a trickster mastermind to keep Silver Rock under The House’s control. The Collector personally contacted Tyler to lose the Outlaw’s Rush on purpose as a bribe to take Lina’s position and among other perks The House had to offer. Losing the race has him trolling Tyler as if the bargain is even the real deal.
The Collector: You actually thought I’d welcome you into the House if you lost?
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: He has No Name Given. Alas, he is called "The Collector".
  • The End... Or Is It?: "The House is Gone… or is it?"
  • The Voice: Although he never shows his face, he speaks. The Collector only communicates through phone calls to Lina. And later, Tyler.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: After the Outlaw’s Rush and the proper ending, one of the loading screens hinted that there are even more Greater-Scope Villains than the Collector himself.
"The House fallen, the Collector fled. Has he returned to his masters?"

Street Leagues

    In General
A group of racing crews, with each having a specific racing style, skill level, specific event type, and a distinct base of operations within Fortune Valley. Beating all of their unique races and events will unlock an event against its boss, and defeating them all is the only way to enter the Outlaw's Rush event.

  • The Cavalry: The majority of the street league bosses, including Mac himself, saved Tyler's behind from the cops during the second leg of the Outlaw's Rush.
  • Extremity Extremist: Each of Fortune Valley's street leagues have different types of specialties.
    • Graveyard Shift, The Silver Six and One Percent Club specialize in Race events.
    • Shift Lock and Noise Bomb specialize in Drift events.
    • Riot Club and Diamond Block specialize in Drag events.
    • League 73, Free Ember Militia, and Hazard Company specialize in Offroad events.
  • Graceful Loser: The street leagues that aren't affiliated with the House will consider Tyler or Mac a Worthy Opponent after being defeated. Later on, they will support the crew during the Outlaw's Rush.
  • He Who Must Not Be Seen: None of the street league bosses (except for the Underground Soldier) show or reveal their faces.
  • Promoted to Playable: After the June 2018 update, all the boss cars have become completely driveable as abandoned cars.
  • Sore Loser: On the contrary to the leagues not affiliated with the House, the three House-aligned leagues do not accept their defeat and still commit to the House's ethics. Lina and the House even send their leaders, Mitko Vasilev, Natalia Nova, and Hotzman, during the first leg of the Outlaw's Rush in an attempt to stop Tyler, but are unsuccessful.

Graveyard Shift

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/latest_42.png

Class/Tier: Race, Tier 1

Hails from: Fortune Valley Desert and Mountains

"When you fly down the highway at 100 miles an hour, every decision is life and death. I am La Catrina, and this... is the Graveyard Shift."
This Street League is themed around the Mexican holiday Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead), with floral-and-skull pattern. They operate in the mountains and deserts of Fortune Valley.
  • Bandito: Their basis is a Mexican holiday, after all.
  • Skeleton Motif: Inspired by the Día de Muertos, members of the crew decorate their cars with unique Calacas skulls and religious charms.
  • What a Piece of Junk: Their cars are old, ranging from The '60s to The '80s in terms of model years. One of them even has a Ford Roadster, a car that predates World War II.

    La Catrina
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nfspb_graveyard_shift_la_catrina.jpg
La Catrina's Nissan Fairlady 240ZG.

Car: Nissan Fairlady 240ZG

A Hispanic street racer and leader of Graveyard Shift. La Catrina remembered Tyler a long time ago, but after the botched Regera heist 6 months ago, she believes that Tyler is not the racer who he once was.

Defeating La Catrina will give Tyler a clue to a derelict of the 1965 Ford Mustang.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: With Tyler after finding out the rematch was a set-up.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She can be a little hard on Tyler, but realizing about the House setting up the rematch, she turns to Tyler and apologizes for her actions. She later supports him during the second leg of the Outlaw's Rush.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name is derived from "La Calavera Catrina" (Dapper Skeleton or Elegant Skull), a 1910 Mexican zinc etching.
  • Spicy Latina: She's a Hispanic racer with a thick Mexican accent.

League 73

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/untitled_1_168.png

Class/Tier: Offroad, Tier 1

Hails from: Airfield 73, Liberty Desert

"Miles outside the city, it's just sky as fast as the eye can see. League 73: freedom happens at a hundred miles an hour and ten feet in the air."
An offroad street league that surrounds Airfield 73 in Liberty Desert, hence the name. Comprised of a group of offroading hooligans who show the love and thrill of breaking the law and evading the authorities, as if Airfield 73 is their playground.
  • Location Theme Naming: League 73 was named after Airfield 73, a former top-secret US Air Force base in the middle of the desert.
Udo Roth: We used to sneak in there and scope the UFOs back when it was still a secret military base.
  • The Xenophile: Hence the name, League 73 loves to sneak into the airfield in a vain search for Flying Saucers, which later is an Easter Egg in the game's map.

    Udo Roth
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nfspb_league73_udo_roth.jpg
Udo Roth's Subaru Impreza WRX STI (GRF-D).

Car: Subaru Impreza WRX STI (GRF-D)

An offroad race with an attitude and leader of League 73. With the introduction of Mac, Udo in his perspective doesn't see him as an offroad race as he expects until he was underestimated by Mac's offroad skills.

Defeating Udo Roth will give Mac a clue to a derelict of the Nissan Fairlady 240ZG.
  • I Shall Taunt You: At first, he sees Mac as a New Meat to offroad, until the latter shows what he can possibly do.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Of course, he's a brash and prideful hooligan who loves sneaking into the airfield. He may be hard on Mac but he helps warm him up after admitting him as a Worthy Opponent and later supports the crew during Outlaw's Rush.
  • Meaningful Name: He likes his name since Udo stands for "Unidentified Driving Object".

Shift Lock

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/untitled_1_88.jpg

Class/Tier: Drift, Tier 1

Hails from: Downtown Silver Rock

"Where will you be when the Revolution comes? We are the last stand against corporate tyranny. We are the drifting freedom fighters of the Misinformation Age. We are... Shift Lock."
A Drift-class Street League based in Silver Rock.

Shift Lock is comprised of drifting techno-anarchists, formed from an online community of conspiracy theorists and internet trolls. Drifting is their way of political protest, and as a form of art for their "performances".
  • Hacker Collective: A bunch of crackers, intent to bring down the House via technoanarchy and drifting. Their boss the Underground Soldier helps Jess with uncovering the House's plans.
  • Missing Steps Plan: At first glance, their plan on taking down the House appears to consist in... being really good at drifting, which is lampshaded by Mac ("What are you planning to do? Drift them to death?"). Subverted in that they are also a Hacker Collective, and in that regard are much more effective against The House, plus their final challenge turns out to consist in disabling surveillance technology installed by The House by using your vehicle as a weapon via, you guessed it, drifting.
  • La Résistance: The league's drift events are in a form of political protests against The House, similar to how Zephyr does against RCPD in Redview County.

    Underground Soldier

Underground Soldier

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nfspb_shift_lock_underground_soldier.jpg
Underground Soldier's Nissan Skyline GT-R (BNR32).

Car: Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec (R32)

A young expert hacker who utilizes drifting as a Propaganda Machine and a Weapon of Mass Destruction against the House.

Defeating the Underground Soldier will give Mac a clue to a derelict of the classic Volkswagen Beetle.
  • Given Name Reveal: His first name is revealed as Charlie.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: While uncovering House and Arkwright files for Jess, his cover was blown when the cops are called.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Subverted. He's the only non-House affiliated league boss who never shows up in The Cavalry during Outlaw's Rush. It's not made clear if it's because earlier on he had expressed concern to Mac that he's working for Marcus Weir, or because he was forced to leave Fortune Valley as a result for his cover being blown.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: After telling Jess to deliver the files to the Broker, he never shows up for the remainder of the plot, not even for The Cavalry of non-House affiliated street leagues who shows up during the Outlaw's Rush. Justified that the Underground Soldier is forced to leave Fortune Valley as a result of his blown cover.

Riot Club

Class/Tier: Drag, Tier 1

Hails from: Boomville, Silver Rock

"When you race in Silver Rock, every quarter mile is a battle. From burnout to finish, we put it all on the line. I am Big Sister and this... is Riot Club."
Silver Rock's most top-notch Drag-class Street League consists of young Korean-Americans, highly known for their Korean pop culture.
  • Canis Latinicus: Their league's motto (as seen in the logo) is "Carpe Whatevs"; basically a corruption of the well-known Latin motto "Carpe Diem" ("seize the day"), from which it can be surmised that it means "seize whatever".
  • Otaku Surrogate: The whole crew consists of Korean-Americans who are fans of Korean pop culture.
  • What a Piece of Junk: The cars of Riot Club consist of mostly classic muscle cars.

    Big Sister
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nfspb_riot_club_big_sister.jpg
Big Sister's Ford Mustang Coupé (Gen. 1).

Car: Ford Mustang Coupé (Gen. 1)

A resilient racer who utilizes her drag racing skills to showcase her unrelenting potential against the House. Despite this, she treats her crew like a family.

Defeating Big Sister will give Tyler a clue to a derelict of the Chevrolet C10 Sidestep Pickup.

The Silver Six

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/latest_262.png

Class/Tier: Race, Tier 2

Hails from: Silver Canyon Casino, Silver Canyon

"We were six warring leagues, exiled from the city by The House. But out here, we found our common cause. We are the Silver Six... and one day, you will hear about us."
The Silver Six were once a separated, warring group of six street racing leagues... until the House took over Silver Rock with the goal of crushing the street racing leagues there. The six street racing leagues fled to Silver Canyon, where they banded together, forging a friendship along the way.
  • Aerith and Bob: Most of the members use codenames to identify themselves. The only exceptions are Gallo Rivera, Cassandra, and Jake Paul.
  • Color Motif: The majority of the Silver Six members painted their car silver or gray, hence the name.
  • The Exile: The group takes its name from the six exiled Silver Rock street racing leagues that it is formed from.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: These six racing leagues were enemies at one point, but the House exiling them gave them a common cause, and they since became friends and joined forces.
  • Outdated Name: They were known as "Sixth Street" before the incident.
  • Redemption Rejection: Inverted. The Silver Six refuses to work for the House.
  • Special Guest: American YouTuber Jake Paul is one of the members of the crew. He's only available as a roaming racer who replaced Black Mamba after the December 2017 update.

    "Gallo" Rivera
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nfspb_silver6_gallo_rivera.jpg
"Gallo" Rivera's Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 2.8.

Car: Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 2.8

A Hispanic street racer, leader of the Silver Six, and Tyler's childhood friend. He spent time in prison due to his resistance against The House, and (initially) has reservations against Tyler's vendetta.
  • Cool Car: Gallo drives a 911 RSR 2.8, which was a decommissioned racing car to begin with. In the real world, there were only 55 genuine copies of it.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Earlier, Gallo and his crew were once arrested from an incidental race, causing him and Tyler to part ways.
  • Meaningful Name: "Gallo" is Spanish for "rooster" or "cock", and yes, he's cocky and has a fighting spirit.
  • Nice Guy: Quite possibly the nicest Race street league boss to Tyler (or his allies, if you face him as a roaming racer with Jess or Mac). This extends to being the only Race street league boss to not be on the House's payroll at any point in the game note

Free Ember Militia

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/latest_1_60.png

Class/Tier: Offroad, Tier 2

Hails from: Ember Valley

"They say it's a man's world. I say: shove it. Survive a day in the desert with us if you think you're so tough. We are... The Free Ember Militia."
An all-female survivalist group of off-roaders based in Ember Valley, hence their name.

Free Ember Militia (FEM) are known for their extreme daredevil stunts and performing very dangerous jumps.
Like Shift Lock, the Free Ember Militia consists of anti-government conspiracy theorists who are opposed to the House's control over Fortune Valley.
  • Amazon Brigade: All of its members are women.
  • Fun with Acronyms: This feminist league's initials spell "FEM", and yes, it's pronounced the same way as "femme".
  • Thrill Seeker: As Faith Jones, the leader, put it:
Faith Jones: It's not racing if you're not gripping the wheel for dear life.

    Faith Jones
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nfspb_fem_faith_jones.jpg
Faith Jones's Ford F-150 SVT Raptor (Gen. 13).

Car: Ford F-150 SVT Raptor (Gen. 13)

Voiced by: Elizabeth Saydah

A survivalist homeschooled in the wilderness outside of Silver Rock. As the leader of Free Ember Militia, she loves any difficult challenge that fits her daredevil attitude, leading to her being described by Mac as being insane.

  • Cool Car: As a survivalist off the road, she goes well with a heavy rugged car. The Ford F-150 SVT Raptor is her vehicle of choice. By popular demand, Faith's F-150 returns in Heat.
  • Drives Like Crazy: Her daredevil skills and attitude give Kaze a run for her money.
  • Nice Girl: While she nicknames Mac a "showman", she is also affable and supportive.
  • Southern Belle: Being a racing cowgirl who loves the thrilling adrenaline, she has a thick Southern accent to go with it.

Noise Bomb

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nfspb_street_league_noise_bomb.png

Class/Tier: Drift, Tier 2

Hails from: Fortune Valley

"We exist in curves and motion. We skirt the knife's edge between life and death, traction and freefall. I am Aki Kimura. Welcome to Noise Bomb."
A drift-based street league based on Fortune Valley.

Known worldwide for their drifting in Tokyo, they have been touring the United States to beat as many records as they can across the country, led by Aki Kimura, a drifting legend that doesn't care for The House or Silver Rock, but wants to share his high-speed art and beat local records as the "Drift King".
  • The Bus Came Back: The league is led by Aki Kimura, the Drift King from ProStreet himself.
  • Mythology Gag: The crew is named after the drift event organizer in ProStreet.

    Aki Kimura

One Percent Club

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/latest_383.png

Class/Tier: Race, Tier 3

Hails from: Mount Providence, Fortune Valley

"We are on in 3...2...1... Ladies and gentlemen, you know her, you love her, it's Natalia Nova! Joining her, as always, the best of the best... the 1% Club!"

A street league specialized in races that can be found in Mount Providence, Fortune Valley.

Made up of rich kids with too much money, internet celebrities, and debutantes, the 1% Club is one of the three House-aligned leagues in the city, and a Race league whose members all drive expensive supercars.

  • Aerith and Bob: Even more so than other Street Leagues. There are Natalia, Jesse, and Lindsay (common names), then Anastasia and Evangeline (Preppy Names, but still plausible), then there's Tiffy3000 (almost certainly a username). Justified since they are internet celebrities and as such, some prefer to hide their real names.
  • The Beautiful Elite: The entire League consists of internet celebrities, debutantes, and young people with too much money, all of whom drive gorgeous supercars.
  • Cool Car: An entire League composed of these.
  • Nouveau Riche: A clique of vapid young-money celebutantes and livestreamers.
  • Special Guest: Jesse Wellens, American YouTuber, creator of PrankvsPrank and the one who unveiled Payback at the EA Play 2017, is surprisingly one of the members of the crew.
  • The Syndicate: One of the three House-aligned Leagues.

    Natalia Nova

Natalia Nova's Pagani Huayra BC.

Car: Pagani Huayra BC

Voiced by: Janine Harouni

"Hellooo Nova Babies! This is SuperNova LIVE from the race track! Grab some snacks amd grab some friends for tonight's main event: Natalia versus the Nobody!"
A popular internet vlogger that has made millions as an influencer and leader of the One Percent Club, known for trash-talking everyone who isn't part of her league or her tier of popularity.
  • Alliterative Name: Natalia Nova, fitting for a Bitch in Sheep's Clothing.
  • Bad Boss: As Tyler keeps defeating the members of her league, she will dismiss it as them being "my worst racers", despite her having just called themselves "the best of the best" in the group's intro.
Nova: My crew is starting to annoy me. Can't even take care of a nobody from nowhere.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: She butters up to her followers putting up a sweet facade, but when facing her as a racer she turns out to be a Rich Bitch.
  • Cool Car: A Pagani Huayra BC is her choice of vehicle. Despite being a track-focused version of the vanilla Huayra, the BC is considered street-legal.
  • Hate Sink: Quite possibly Payback's most despised character. This has gotten to the point where hating Natalia Nova in and of itself is a meme in the community.
  • Instant Humiliation: Just Add YouTube!: She attempts to do this on Tyler by livestreaming the race she has with him, only for Tyler, at this point just about sick of her near-constant trash talk, happily turning the tables to Natalia by beating her.
Nova: Say something for the crowd, Noboby!
Tyler: Keep watching, I'm gonna crush your superstar.
  • The Nicknamer: She loves insulting her opponents, especially Tyler, who's called "The Nobody" by her, while calling other opponents "cockroaches".
  • Precision F-Strike:
    • After being defeated, she has strong words for Tyler.
Nova: I may not be able to stop you from getting into the Rush, but you can bet your saggy ass that I'll do everything I can to stop you during it.
    • Her reaction if Tyler challenges her to a race as a Roaming Racer: "Son of a bitch!"
    • If the player beats her supposed "BFF" Lindsay as a Roaming Racer enough times, Natalia will give her a kiss off with a dismissive "Bye bitchhhhh!"
  • Red Baron: She insists on calling herself "SuperNova".
  • Rich Bitch: Ouch. There is no person more accurate for this trope in the franchise than Natalia Nova.
  • Rich in Dollars, Poor in Sense: Has much more money than character, acting like a stereotypical Alpha Bitch.
  • Saying Too Much: After Tyler wins the Hyperspace Circuit challenge, Nova will slip that "it didn't work the way it was supposed to", which catches Tyler's attention, even confiding it with Jess. Later on, as Tyler keeps pressing, she will eventually reveal that One Percent Club is one of the House-affiliated leagues, and were already alerted about Tyler and his crew by them and tasked with stopping them.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Her dismissive attitude finally breaks down as Tyler keeps coming closer to completing their league challenge.
Nova: [after Tyler wins Solar Sprint, their next-to-last challenge] Lame, lame, lame, lame, lame!!! You messed with the wrong HBIC, Nobody. Let's do this.

Nova: [as Tyler is about to win his head-to-head race with Nova] No way! This is ridiculous!

Diamond Block

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/latest_1_87.png

Class/Tier: Drag, Tier 3

Hails from: Diamond Block, Silver Rock

"You struggle through life while we toy with it. Nothing is ever exciting enough, dangerous enough, worthy enough for us. We are... Diamond Block. Never heard of us? Well, you must not be a millionaire then."

One of the three House-associated Street Leagues in Fortune Valley, this drag-racing league is known for its choice of locations for doing so; dangerous, illegal, and oftentimes unsafe. They care little, because to them the thrill of danger trumps anything else.

  • Location Theme Naming: "Diamond Block" is named after their home location in Silver Rock.
  • Rich in Dollars, Poor in Sense: The richest of the richest, Diamond Block considers themselves superior against those 'city scum', all thanks to their social status and their ultra-rich outlet, all being under the House's payroll.
  • The Syndicate: One of the three House-aligned Leagues.
  • Theme Naming: All the members are named after business and political ranks. You have Ambassador, Boss, Commodore, Diplomat, Empress and Queen.
  • Thrill Seeker: A darker take on this attitude; Diamond Block is made up of bored rich people who drag race along Fortune Valley's roads and highways, regardless of the danger it poses to civilians.

    Mitko Vasilev
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nfspb_diamond_block_mitko_vasilev.jpg
Mitko Vasilev's Nissan GT-R Premium.

Car: Nissan GT-R Premium (2017)

An egotistical consul and self-proclaimed daredevil street racer who hails from Bulgaria.

Nominally attached to the Bulgarian consulate in Colombia, Mitko likes to vacation in Fortune Valley, where he establishes his racing league. Calm and prudent at first, his temper escalates as he pursues the thrill of joy behind the wheel.
  • "Ass" in Ambassador: An Eastern European consul with a dangerous disregard for civilian safety.
  • Bad Boss: Like Natalia Nova, he will put the blame on Tyler winning on his crew being bad with harsh words.
Mitko Vasilev: Useless! All of them!
  • Balkan Bastard: He's a Bulgarian "diplomat" in bed with a criminal enterprise, with no manners, scruples, or respect for anyone but himself.
  • Berserk Button: Losing. He may be calm at first, but when he loses, he loses it.
  • Cool Car: A 2017 Nissan GT-R Premium is what he uses for drag racing.
  • It's All About Me: It's what Mitko thinks about himself: superior towards anyone.
  • Lack of Empathy: Can't be bothered to concern himself with anyone who might get caught up in his dangerous drag races, as things like collateral damage matter less to him than his own enjoyment.
Tyler Morgan: Hey man, you think you could at least try to find a place with less people in the way?
Mitko Vasilev: They will either get out of the way or they won't.
  • Sore Loser: Immediately after defeating Vasilev, he will call on the cops on Tyler. So much for sportsmanship.
  • Triple Shifter: Diplomat by day, street racer at night.

Hazard Company

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/latest_2_3.png

Class/Tier: Offroad, Tier 3

Hails from: Ark Tower, Silver Rock

"Hicks to the core, but I can GAR-UN-TEE we live better than you. Cash in our hands, dirt in our toes, and nothin' but the sky in front of us. We are... Hazard Company."

One of the three House-affiliated street leagues in Fortune Valley.

Hazard Company comprises of rural industrialists who spends their extra money on building extreme off-road creations and take them outside Silver Rock in search for a challenge.

  • Hayseed Name: A pack of hillbilly racers, all with names like Cletus, Bobbi Jo, Forrest and Leanne.
Holtzmann: (after beating Cletus in a Roaming Race) If you think someone named Cletus will just roll over after one beating, well... You got another thing coming.
  • Mythology Gag: The Hazard Company is possibly named as a nod to one of the tracks in Motor City Online (also named "Hazard" there). No info on whether Holtzman (or any of his crew members) was in Motor City restoring the old junkers before it shut down.
  • Nouveau Riche: Their intro, talking about them being "hicks" yet at the same time bragging about having "cash in our hands [and] dirt in our toes" portrays them as this.
  • The Syndicate: One of the three House-connected Leagues.
  • Suspicious Spending: The whole crew is committed to spend all their payroll to build such fine scrap-metal creations.
  • What a Piece of Junk: Most of Hazard Company's cars (excluding Cletus' and Leanne's) are 50+ year old derelicts that look like they've seen their share of tough love, but make no mistake, they are well-built off-roading machines, to the point that even Mac is surprised, and suspicious, that he can just barely compete with them. Turns out, this is because they have a lot more advanced tech under the hood than they'd care to admit.

    Holtzman
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nfspb_hazard_company_holtzman.jpg
Holtzman's Chevrolet C10.

Car: Chevrolet C10 (Gen. 1)

An admitted hillbilly offroad racer who appears to be friendly and affable to newcomers, but in the inside possesses an arrogant, foul-tempered and threatening demeanor. Being egotistical due to his own doing, but from the perspective from his crew members, they find Holtzman unhinged and deranged.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Unlike Nova and Vasilev, Holtzmann starts off very polite and welcoming to Mac, to the point that Mac is unnerved by how genial he seems to be despite being upfront about his connections to The House. This is all just a façade to try and recruit Mac for his crew (and The House), and when Mac doesn't bite, he's quick to turn nasty on him.
  • The Corrupter: Tries playing nice with Mac at first in an attempt to get him to join up with him and The House. Doesn't work.
  • Eagleland: As Type 2 as it gets, and a direct contrast to Mac: Whereas Mac views the American Dream as "blue skies, open roads and opportunity", Holtzmann's idea of "the Dream" is simply "Bein' able to tell whoever the hell you want to do whatever the hell you want" without repercussion, and he's willing to stoop to any low to get to that point.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Is quite foul-tempered and sneaky beneath his own affable personality.
  • Half-Witted Hillbilly: An arrogant and more evil version of Faith Jones, accent included. Though he at least admits that he is one.
  • Saying Too Much: Even while putting on an air of kindness, Holtzmann can't help but slyly brag about his House-supplied illicit modifications, not to mention what he really thinks of his own crew.
  • Villainous Friendship: With The Collector, allegedly.
  • What a Piece of Junk: His choice of car is a very old C10 pickup, yet he's still able to go toe-to-toe with other off-road cars, including the much newer ones.

Other Characters

    HashTiger
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screen_shot_2021_05_12_at_102631_pm.png

Car: Subaru BRZ

"HashTiger here live from the Hashmobile with the driftmeister, McAlister!"

A social media influencer who accompanies Mac for a mission.

  • Animal Motif: Subverted. He just peppers his words with the word "tiger" and blatantly acts like one.
  • Butt-Monkey: Poor HashTiger. He frequently gets teased by Mac and also got his high score beaten, as well as acting like a total wimp when he was nauseated by Mac's crazy drifting skills.
  • Geek: A pop-cultured social media vlogger? Natch.
  • Selfie Fiend: He's fond of taking selfies and/or vlogging pretty much everything he does, much to Mac's chagrin. Earlier in the prologue, when Mac drifts their car around so hard that HashTiger throws up, HashTiger wants to get a shot of that!
HashTiger: Hey, Mac. Did you get a shot of me puking?
  • Vomit Discretion Shot: HashTiger is seen in the background throwing up behind the car he and Mac were in after Mac pulled a crazy drift run.

    Kobashi
"Say hello to your real masters for me. Tell them I shall see them soon."
A Japanese business mogul and head of Arkwright, a mysterious organization that supplies Chidori specialty parts to turn cars into Automated Automobiles.
  • Ambiguously Evil: In regards to his supplying of parts to turn cars into Automated Automobiles. While rigging street races definitely counts as "evil", it's unknown if the riggings are his orders or The Collector's particular way of doing business, and it's not even known if he's doing that for malevolent purposes or not.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: A rare example of being this trope to another villain who is this trope too; he's The Collector's boss. Downplayed, due to him being Ambiguously Evil.
  • The Man Behind the Man: Kobashi is The Collector's mysterious backer and the supplier for the House's advanced performance technology. It's telling that The Collector refers to him as Kobashi-sama and demands that he be treated "greater than royalty."
  • Spotting the Thread: Immediately suspects Jess doesn't work for the House when he notices that she isn't as dull and obedient as the typical House thug.
  • Vocal Dissonance: Sounds like a typical Grumpy Old Man while riding with Jess, while his character model looks to be in his mid-to-late 20s.

"So. You're [Mac] the street race who qualified today, good job! I'm Jason Monroe - reigning king of speedcross. You can call me Barracuda."

Nicknamed "Barracuda", he is the reigning champion of Fortune Valley's speedcross series.

Although affable and amiable at the start, Mac discovers his true colors as the story progresses.

  • Big Bad: Of the Speedcross DLC story arc.
  • Jerk Jock: He's a really arrogant racer who's affiliated with The House.
  • Nice to the Waiter: Rav points out that Jason averts this to describe why Jason is trouble.
Rav: Listen Mac, that guy's trouble. Treats his mechanics like his servants, for one.
  • The Rival: To Mac.
  • Sore Loser: Like Vasilev, Jason calls on the House goons to chase Mac.

    The Curator

Voiced by: Elysia Rotaru

"Godspeed, racers. This is the Voice of the Streets."
A mysterious radio DJ who relays the events of the campaign throughout.
  • Catchphrase: The Curator always introduces herself by saying "Godspeed, racers".
  • Leitmotif: watt's "Burning Man" (feat. Post Malone) plays whenever she speaks.
  • Ms. Exposition: When any of the main protagonists finish a story mission, she will come on the air to spread the word to all of Fortune Valley.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: She's only known as The Curator.
  • Red Baron: She calls herself "The Voice of the Streets."
  • The Voice: ...of the Streets, as she's called. She never shows up in person yet is always there to let the streets of Fortune Valley know what's going on.
