    Tropes shared by entire unit
  • Amazon Brigade: With Kai and Shiera missing at the Labyrinth, the rest of Kai's Battle Harem (composed by Ligia, Doronea, Nia and Sakura) go looking for the two themselves and do a better job of clearing out the monsters than the duo.
  • Battle Harem: The women who get screentime are all apart of Kai's "harem" and are kick ass as well.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: The girls (Sakura, Nia, Doronea and Ligia) dress in the typical belly dancer attire to distract the garrison of a Dhala plant so Kai and Shiera can investigate the factory.
  • Ms. Fanservice: If there's a woman in this unit, you can bet she'll be smoking hot.

Kai's Unit

    Kai / "Major Grey"

Kai Watari aka "Major Grey Enfield"

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kai_7.png
A 20 year old human or "Marebito" summoned from Earth to aid Princess Sakura. When summoned he was given the ability to utilize the ambrosia within her and select young women to turn into a "Cursed-God". He later assumes Major Grey Enfield's identity to rescue her and is roped into the larger conflict of the world, including leading an army unit and recruiting more young women to utilize their ambrosia whether he likes it or not.
  • Accidental Pervert: Without meaning too, he occasionally sees the girls in various states of undress. The reaction depends on the girl in question.
  • Amnesiac Hero: Immediately after the summoning ritual, he didn't know where or when he was. He also didn't know who he was, or anything about where he came from. Fortunately, bits and pieces of modern Earth technical knowledge begin filtering in, and he uses this to win the day by leveraging his usually superior technology along with his Cursed-God status.
  • Badass Bookworm: The reason he picked up so many skills is that whenever he got a new part-time job, he would happily drown himself in every related technical manual. This caused his social relationships with his co-workers to become even worse, and he'd soon find himself being shipped off to another job, continuing the cycle.
  • Bedmate Reveal: While not in a bed, when Kai wakes up in the Labyrinth, he finds a naked Shiera laying next to him.
  • Char Clone: A mysterious (from an outside perspective) blond-haired, masked man whose inventive and gutsy tactics make him a central figure in the military? Yeah the resemblance is most certainly intentional. Not to mention with the fact that he's also impersonating a dead man and assuming his name. In a rare twist he's the protagonist and not a villain or rival which is the standard with this type of character.
  • Chick Magnet: His kindness and how he goes out of his way to help others is what makes many women to fall for him, especially the ones who carry the Ambrosia.
  • Cool Mask: He wears an elaborate mask to hide that he is not Grey.
  • Cursed with Awesome: Kai is specifically called a God-Cursed and taking the power of the Ambrosia gives him great power at the temporary cost of his sanity.
  • Dead Person Impersonation: After Grey dies, Kai pretends to be him in order to make use of a military company that is planning to assault the castle where Sakura is being held for unrelated reasons. He mostly gets by on luck, judicious application of dynamite, and some half-remembered sales lessons. Afterwards, the prince decides that his punishment should be that he must continue pretending to be Grey as this has become extremely beneficial to all parties involved.
  • Desperately Seeking A Purpose In Life: On Earth, the reason he had so many part-time jobs was that he was desperate to find his niche, and this clearly did not do good things for his self-esteem when he kept getting bounced from one job to another, feeling completely useless.
  • Elemental Powers: Utilizing the Ambrosia, Kai can enter God-Cursed mode and use an elemental power depending on the form.
    • An Ice Person: Nordri Ambrosia gives him power over "Ice & Snow", capable of creating huge bizzards capable of tearing down a zeppelin like it's tissue paper.
    • Light 'em Up: Rubrian Ambrosia gives Kai light based abilities that result in Frickin' Laser Beams!
    • Making a Splash: Oceanos Ambrosia gives control over the water with enough pressure it can cut through reinforced steel.
    • Playing with Fire: Efrit Ambrosia gives Kai control over fire and magma.
    • Sand Blaster: Rahu Ambrosia gives Kai power over sand.
    • Shock and Awe: Indra Ambrosia gives Kai the power to control lightning and electricity.
  • Grew a Spine: When he was first summoned to this new world, he was in a constant total panic. Rightly terrified of everything going on. Coming to Sakura's rescue has screwed his courage and made him extremely dependable, competent, and capable.
  • Jack of All Trades: Kai has worked at basically every job in Japan, from salesman to miner. Due to his habit of reading up on the background of every job he had, he knows enough about modern technology to teach the basics to the locals. For example, they already had nitroglycerine, but couldn't figure out how to stabilize it. He taught them how to turn it into dynamite.
  • Kiss of Life: Kai feeds Shiera the true Blood of the Mermaid through the mouth so she can recover from the wounds given by the land-shark, and later she gives Kai this underwater, right as her newly awakened Ambrosia manifests
  • Magic Versus Science: Averted in that, Kai uses magic to channel his knowledge of science showing his fighting style to be a harmonious blend of the two.
  • Majorly Awesome: Grey was a major in the Lemurian company and Kai inherits the position. And he becomes skilled enough to earn it.
  • Molotov Cocktail: Kai introduces the idea of using bottles of flammable liquids as weapons to distract some Dhala guards from the entrance of a plant.
  • Mundane Utility: Kai often uses the magic he gains form the Cursed-God Mode to channel scientific uses. Shakuntala herself can't tell whether this annoys her or amazes her. In one example, Kai uses Indra's Lightning to create Sonic-Welding and Arc-Welding.
  • New Job as the Plot Demands: Kai pretty much has done and researched every job ever; it's a Running Gag at this point.
  • New Transfer Student: Under orders from Prince Luca, he transfers to Arlen Royal Academy under the guise of a Yashimano to investigate the rise in drug use involving Mermaid's Blood.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: He helps "a little old lady" cross a crowded street only to find that the "old lady" in question is a disguised ghoul assassin who shoots Grey dead with a poisoned bolt. Kai becomes far, far more pragmatic in offering aid from that point on.
  • No Social Skills: The primary reason he got shoved from job to job is that he couldn't relate to his co-workers, at all, especially if they were female, and they resented him. As an army major in this new world, this is no longer an issue as he's thoroughly grilled in how the real Major Grey would act, and he borrows the latter's vastly superior charm to get things across, in public. In private settings, where he has to be himself, he still socially trips over his own feet.
  • One-Man Army: In God-Cursed mode, he can easily decimate an army, and he instinctively knows how to use its powers to deadly effect.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Even Luca admits that Kai is insanely lucky the real Major Grey Enfield was a private guy, because anyone who knew Grey, can easily deduce expose Kai. In fact this starts to become a major plot point during the second Arlen arc as Valor's political party starts to press the point.
  • Power at a Price: The Ambrosia can turn any human into a nigh-unstoppable elemental killing machine, but they will be in a berserk rage for the duration of the transformation. It's even called "the blessing of the Gods' curse."
  • Red Baron: Eventually Kai gets called "Grey the War-God" by both the kingdom of Albion and the Dhala Empire.
  • Science Hero: Kai alternates between using scientific knowledge from his previous jobs to best his enemies, and the godly power granted to him by the Ambrosia.
  • Shown Their Work: The knowledge Kai has from his previous jobs are all well researched, among them that sharks can hunt using the ampule of Lorenzini, which allows them to sense the electric impulses of their prey, even in total darkness.
  • The So-Called Coward: Since he's loathe to fight meaningless battles and shies away from combat whenever possible, he's often called a cowardly weakling. When the situation is dire, however, he's brave to the point of total recklessness. This is lampshaded on several occasions.
Luca: "He's a strange man. He has an outer shell of weakness and cowardice that's very convincing, but is surprisingly thin. Beneath it is a core of the hardest and rarest steel."
  • Storming the Castle: Kai, along with the Lemurian Company, storm Duke Gazuro's fortress to save Sakura.
  • Token Human: Kai is the only human among Albion's forces.
  • Unwanted Harem: Kai gets a princess of a fallen kingdom, a pure-blood werecat, an army captain, an alchemist, a princess of a prospering kingdom, and a newly-crowned queen all lusting after him. Kai is well aware that the situation makes his life much more complicated... but can't help but privately admit that it has its perks.
  • Workplace-Acquired Abilities: All his technological knowledge comes from the required skills he learned in his many, many part-time jobs.

    Sakura / Shakuntala

Princess Sakura Shakuntala Adoniera

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nectar_of_dharani_1_1.jpg

The young princess of the fallen Adarl Kingdom and wielder of the Indra Ambrosia who summoned Kai to accept her gift of Ambrosia to help her fight the Dhala Empire. After initially realizing she failed to summon a warrior like she'd hoped and got Kai instead, she has made due and the two have united her the Kingdom of Albion to retake her home.

She has a mysterious split personality in Shakuntala; Sakura's Ambrosia has its own personality. She acts far older and wiser than Sakura, as well as with more cruelty, but seems to have Sakura's best interests at heart.

  • Fallen Princess: Sakura is the only known surviving member of the Adarl royal family after her nation was destroyed by the Dhala empire. She believes her sister Karsha is still alive.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: She doesn't want to admit it, but she's extremely jealous when Kai is tasked with recruiting (more like seducing) Princess Doronea.
  • Horned Humanoid: She has horns on her head, and so does her race.
  • Innocent Fanservice Girl: Sakura is described as "Modest and Shy" but the act of giving Ambrosia forces her to act outside her comfort zone. To compensate she lets her split-persona Shakuntala handle that (who is FAR more eager).
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Buying Nia from the slave market proves a well-justified purchase as Nia becomes a powerful and versatile ally that's completely devoted to her, even if Nia's initial claims of being a royal maid were a lie for the sake of finding better treatment.
  • MacGuffin Super-Person: Sakura has the Ambrosia, one of the last pieces of magic left in the world. It can be used to give any human temporary superpowers, but there are implied to be other uses, which is why The Empire wants it.
  • Not So Above It All: While she keeps the her image of a princess, there are times she lets it slip that she's still a teenage girl. When she was posing as a New Transfer Student to investigate Mermaid's Blood in Albion Academy, Sakura eventually falls prey to the usual High School Girl dramas and forms a snippy rivalry against the Alpha Bitch.
  • Shock and Awe: She can bestow said powers of Lightning through her Ambrosia of Indra.
  • Split Personality: Sakura's Ambrosia has its own personality, which calls itself Shakuntala. She acts far older and wiser than Sakura, as well as with more cruelty, but seems to have Sakura's best interests at heart.

Shakuntala

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nectar_of_dharani_5_3.jpg

  • Beach Episode: An event she uses to playfully toy with Ligia forcing her to wear a skimpy swimsuit in front of her soldiers to "boost her popularity".
  • Ms. Fanservice: She knows she's hot and is the most comfortable with her body out of all the female cast.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: When she's in control, Sakura's purple hair turns pink.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: Shakuntala, unlike Sakura, doesn't mind flashing her boobs in public to give Kai the Ambrosia. She also seems to enjoy putting all the other ladies into positions that force them to flaunt their goods.
  • Shock and Awe: She can bestow said powers of Lightning through her Ambrosia of Indra.
  • Split Personality: She is this to Sakura often taking her spot when Sakura is in a bind.
  • The Tease: God is she ever, she enjoys flaunting her looks and putting the other girls in situations that make them uncomfortable, much to her own amusement.

    Ligia

Captain Ligia Kratz

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nectar_of_dharani_2.jpg

A newly promoted officer in the Lemurian Company and 2nd in Command of Kai/"Major Grey's" Unit, Ligia is striving to prove herself to her unit but her rookie status and good looks gave her mixed results. By luck, Kai (posing as Major Grey Enfield) took command of her unit and lead them to victory. Now she happily continues to serve her Commanding Officer and unit, but sadly circumstances force her to use her looks more than she'd like.

  • Action Girl: Her Mysterious Past taught her to be tough and become a strong soldier; even become a Lieutenant and quickly becoming a Captain and still be called a rookie. In military terms, that's beyond impressive.
  • Attempted Rape: In her introductory chapter, she is cornered by three men twice her size, and armed, while she's bathing. Fortunately for her, "Major Grey" shows up, also armed, and comes to her rescue, driving off the would be rapists.
  • Badass Normal: Ligia is not an Ambrosia wielder, she cannot bestow supernatural powers to Kai; but she stays by Kai's side because she can kick ass.
  • The Beautiful Elite: Aran, Dias, and others have mentioned she's supposedly from a ''very'' noble family and even the Princesses note she just looks like she's from a similar background to them. So much so, that Nia has flirtatiously complemented Ligia's beauty.
  • Bow and Sword in Accord: She wields a rapier and later appears to replace her revolver with a crossbow.
  • Cool Big Sis: Ligia's position as an Action Girl and Officer make her this to the Lemurian Company and Princesses. It's an image she tries very hard to maintain.
  • Hero of Another Story: Invoked, so far, Ligia is the focal character of the "Extra Chapters".
    • A Day in the Limelight: Thus far, all three extra chapters focus on Ligia's story.
    • Beach Episode: She tries to use this to further her bonding with her unit with team building exercises; Shakuntala on the other hand used this to force her into a skimpy swimsuit which succeeded in making her more popular, but not in the way she wanted.
    • D-Cup Distress: The "extra chapters" are very fond of doing this to her. During a party to boost morale after the Yashimano mission, her uniform is stolen and she's forced to wear one of Sakura's dresses. Keep in mind, Sakura is easily a cup-size or two smaller than her, so Ligia's chest is bursting out of that top.
    • Fan-Preferred Couple: In-Universe mainly during the extra chapters, the soldiers of The Lemurian Company ship her and Kai hard, even if they have to force her into moments of possible romance.
  • Hilarity Ensues: Ligia tries to maintain the charisma of an Officer, Cool Big Sis type, and Action Girl; however, she's constantly thrown into situations that are gonna make her suffer a wardrobe malfunction in front of everyone.
  • Mysterious Past: Something happened in her past to "demote" her from Nobility to the military as Aran questions, she mentions she'll "never be betrayed by a man again" to herself twice indicating whatever happened, it wounded her deeply.
    • An extra chapter explains that Ligia used to be a Shrinking Violet that was very shy and withdrawn. She and her more outgoing younger sister Raiza were almost kidnapped which caused her to snap and toughen up.
    • Her "luckless" history in romance was explained that her "toughening up" put off possible suitors, so she eventually had her title of "Heiress of the Kratz Family" given to Raiza instead.
  • Only Sane Man: In Kai's Battle Harem, Ligia has the most common sense, by a longshot.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Ligia always tries to keep an air of professionalism (as expected of an officer) at all times so anytime she breaks character i.e. when she gushes over her "cute sister", people take note.
  • Reluctant Fanservice Girl: Ligia isn't enthusiastic being a Ms. Fanservice:
    • Extra chapters in particular seem to put her in situations where she's constantly experiencing some kind of wardrobe malfunction.
    • During the Neria Islands arc, Shakuntala tricks her into a skimpy swimsuit, in front of all the men and being forced into a revealing Belly-Dancer outfit to distract guards.
    • During a party to boost morale, Ligia would much rather wear a Party Uniform, but is forced into a dress 2 chest sizes too small for her.
  • Royal Rapier: Her weapon of choice is a rapier and she is of nobility.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: Already looking good in a uniform, in the rare moments she's wearing something else (usually being tricked), Ligia is drop dead gorgeous.
  • Shrinking Violet: Don't let Ligia's Action Girl soldier status fool you; when she's in a Ms. Fanservice situation, she's gonna have a "moment". This was later expanded upon that this was her original personality growing up!
  • Significant Green-Eyed Redhead: She has bright scarlet red hair and bright green eyes to go with them. (This makes her unique among other "High-Elf Girl" characters in other media who are usually Blonde with Blue-Eyes).
  • Spell My Name With An S: Is her name "Ligia" or "Lidia" and is her family name "Cratz" or "Kratz"? We'll have to wait for the proper English translation.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: When she first appeared, she sported a Revolver pistol and her Lemurian uniform in battle. Come the Neraia Arc, she wears more traditional "Lady Knight" armor and a crossbow. What happened to her revolver?

    Doronea

Princess Doronea

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nectar_of_dharani_3.jpg

Dwarven Princess of Garandoa who wields the Ambrosia of Ifirt. Her over-protective older brother's guardianship increased tenfold when she discovered her Ambrosia. When she learned of political unrest due to her brother's protection, she pleaded with Kai to take her away so her brother would be free to focus on his rivals more. Now teamed up with the Lemurian Company, Dorornea is experiencing the world for the first time with hilarious results.

  • Amazon Brigade: With Kai and Shiera missing at the Labyrinth, the rest of Kai's Battle Harem (composed by Ligia, Doronea, Nia and Sakura) go looking for them.
  • Ambiguously Bi: She's very much eager to make out with Sakura to make their infiltration into the Rubian cult convincing.
  • Ambiguously Brown: While the other Dwarves (Male and Female) are light-skinned as traditionally seen in fantasy media, Doronea is more olive-skinned like her Arabian inspired culture counterparts.
  • Big Brother Instinct: The victim of it, her brother Havol is very protective of Doronea, and refuses to marry (which is a very important Dwarven tradition) until she has found a worthy man.
  • Chainmail Bikini: More like Chain-mail Lingerie, but her armor is extremely revealing.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Doronea is instructed to distract the guards at the bar by Belly Dancing, she hears someone tell her to "Take it off!" so she proceeds to undress...and proceeds to distract every guard in town! In fact, the other girls trying to stop her only make the guards more distracted!
  • Full-Frontal Assault: When she's captured by Doris Valor and forced to strip naked in order to let some orcs rape her, Doronea instead fights them off with her chains, forcing Doris to try to kill her in a different manner.
  • Harem Seeker: She wants Kai to be polygamous, as she not only arranges to have Kai and Sakura wind up in the bath together, she sneaks in too, and then proceeds to aggressively flirt with both of them.
  • Innocent Fanservice Girl: Doronea doesn't mind being seen naked by Kai and would've danced naked when asked to had Sakura and Ligia not stopped her. However, this all seems to be due to a lack of understanding of social graces than anything.
  • Our Dwarves Are Different: She (like the other Dwarven females) are more inspired by Arabian culture than the Scotireland Viking culture usually seen in traditional fantasy media.
  • Our Nudity Is Different: Due to dwarven culture, the only taboo she recognizes is showing her face to anyone who is not a family member, either by blood or marriage. As such, she sees nothing wrong with exposing the rest of her body, regardless of time or place.
  • Playing with Fire: She can bestow said powers of Fire through her Ambrosia of Ifrit
  • Pretty Princess Powerhouse: Doronea shows she's a true Dwarf Princess by going into battle and saving her brother.
  • Please Put Some Clothes On: She's all too eager to remove her clothes, and more than often Ligia begs her to put her clothes back on.
  • Stripperiffic: Given her Chainmail Lingerie, this is a given.

    Nia

Nia Nidia

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nia_3.png
A young Leopard Celienthrope girl who Sakura freed from a slave caravan after she claimed to be a maid in the Adarl High Court. This was a lie, but Sakura's kindness caused her to help Kai rescue her and devote herself to the princess as an actual hand maid to give herself a better life and make up for her lie. As a rare pure-blooded Celienthrope, she has the rare ability to completely morph into a leopard.
  • Accidental Truth: As she's being offered for sale, she shouts that she's a royal maid, so she can maybe fetch a better price and get better treatment. She winds up being bought by royalty and becomes a royal maid, for real.
  • Alliterative Name: Nia Nidia.
  • Animorphism: Nia can transform into a leopard. Ligia mentions the transformation is thanks to her pure-blood and it's quiet rare.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Nia chose to help Kai save Sakura after the latter used most of her jewels to buy her freedom.
  • Innocent Fanservice Girl: To animorph, she must strip down exposing herself to everyone around her. But this doesn't seem to affect her.
  • Ninja Maid: "Ninja" may be stretching it, but she is an actual hand maid and isn't helpless in a fight.
  • Panthera Awesome: She can transform into a huge leopard.
  • Shapeshifting Excludes Clothing: She has to shed her clothes to take on her leopard form.

    Aran

Sergeant Aran Sezac

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aran_5.png
Third in Command of Kai/"Major Grey's" Unit.
  • Number Two: Invoked, he's actually "Number THREE" of the unit when it comes to rank; but he's essentially the go-to guy for Major Grey and Captain Ligia.
  • Oh, Crap!: Aran is the first one to point out when something is going horribly wrong.
  • Only Sane Man: He's the only one to question a masked hero appearing out of nowhere right when he was needed and doesn't trust "Major Grey" until he proved his worth.

    Ren

Private Ren Barker

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/renbarker.png
Kai's ward.
  • Determinator: Ren manages to deliver an important message to Sakura despite having been pushed off a train and breaking an arm in the middle of a snowstorm.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Seems to be part dog.
  • Too Dumb to Live: More like he respects his commanding officer a lot, but he corrected an angry king of Dwarves right in front of him, not too smart Ren.
  • Undying Loyalty: To his commander Major Grey; given he's a "Dog-Man" this comes with the territory. Kai even admits he doesn't deserve such a level of loyalty.

    Gil & Shizuna

Gil Gara & Shizuna

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gilxshizuna.png
Shizuna (left) & Gil (right)
An Assassin couple, Gil & Shizuna a Glaciess (Snow-Maiden) of the Hasas Organization based in Yashimano. At first antagonistic towards Kai, they are later hired to become his bodyguards.
  • Alliterative Name: Gil Gara.
  • An Ice Person: Shizuna can cast very powerful ice spells which rival a Cursed-God Mode Ifrit's fire.
  • Badass Normal: Gil can go toe-to-toe with a Cursed-God Mode Kai, NO ONE has done that other than him. And without much apparent aid from Shizuna.
  • Fanservice: Shizuna is quite beautiful and wears limited clothing, given her species preference for colder climates.
  • Fanservice with a Smile: While Gil seems pretty annoyed with playing the part of a butler, Shizuna seems pretty happy dressing up as a maid.
  • I Owe You My Life:
    • While he doesn't like it, he feels indebted to Kai; first for saving him and Shizuna from Velanto's gas, and later for preventing Shizuna from being tortured any further by the Yashimano.
    • Shizuna feels this way towards Gil and eventually towards Kai, going as far as begging Gil to save him.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Takes a couple arcs to discover, but once Gil and Kai end up on the same side, he is actually revealed to be not all that bad.
  • Little Miss Badass: Shizuna took on Ifrit Kai and held her ground despite her weakness to high temperatures, nuff said. Dhalani soldiers considered her an indispensable asset and even sacrificed their lives for her, much to her shock.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: Shizuna serves as one for her husband. Just about every "nice" thing Gil does is usually at Shizuna's behest or for her.
  • Logical Weakness: Shizuna is a Glaciess, so she has a natural weakness to fire. This makes her stand against Ifrit Kai all the more impressive.
  • Magic Versus Science: Gil seems to favor Magic over Science as he chooses to use Orichalcum ore for his kukri and views a tank as "gaudy".
  • Mysterious Past: Gil suffers with this with Aldia, complete with massive Ship Tease. Being a married man and a professional, this causes him a great amount of grief.
  • Ninja Maid: Ninja Maid & Butler! After Kai brings peace to the Yashimano government and the Hasas, Gil & Shizuna are now following close behind Kai as bodyguards during the Arlen arc.
  • Walking Spoiler: Gil & Shizuna start out in Dhala's employ, so them suddenly showing up in this page would surprise casual readers.
  • Undying Loyalty: Shizuna will never betray her husband Gil, even under terrible torture.
  • Villain Respect: Gil told the Dwarves he wasn't killing them out of spite, but rather respect for their warrior pride. Later he begrudgingly shows respect to Kai when he gives him an opening to save his wife twice.

    Berc

Sargent Berc

  • Lizard Folk: A Lizard man.
  • Shout-Out: Berc being a Lizard-Man and having the name "Berc", could be a Shout-Out to the setting of the "How to Train Your Dragon" franchise.
