Garandoa Kingdom

The Kingdom of Dwarves they are at the forefront of the world's Industrial Revolution.

  • Awesome, but Impractical: Hired by the now destroyed kingdom of Rhani, with no deadline and unlimited budget, to build the best war-train they could, they built "The Fortress", a mighty juggernaut that boasts the best of dwarf engineering, weapon, and armor, but it's so heavy and massive that even under the best circumstances, required multiple engines to transport, and it's intended use, the protection of Rhani, was no longer possible, since the country fell before completion. Along comes Kai with his new engine design, building an engine strong enough to carry it, alone, and it's now Difficult, but Awesome, delivering a Curbstomp Battle to Dahla's newly minted steam-powered tanks.
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture: The men are based off Scotireland/Viking culture usually seen in traditional fantasy media (of course); having things like the "Sacred Rite of Hospitality" being extremely important to them. The Women, while still having their personalities based on "Scotireland", have their clothing based off Arabic culture.
  • More Deadly Than the Male: Everyone admits that Dwarven males are universally called "Strong, Honest, and "Uncomplicated""; the women by contrast are shadier and admittedly way more willing to assassinations and subterfuge than the men.
  • Our Dwarves Are All the Same: Kai, Aran, & Ren allude to these words quite a few times.

    Havol

King Havol

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kinghavol.png
King of the dwarves and brother to Princess Doronea.
  • Big Brother Instinct: His top priority is to ensure his little sister's well-being, on account of how big a target her Ambrosia makes her.
  • Celibate Hero: Has vowed that he won't marry until Doronea finds a partner worthy of her. This hurts him politically because, despite being king, male dwarves aren't truly considered men until they marry and sire children.
  • Does Not Like Magic: Like other dwarves, Havol find magic, with its inconsistent rules and restrictions, to be annoying at best.
  • Fantastic Racism: Like other dwarves, he dislikes Elves calling the High-Elves "Long Ears" and Dark-Elves "Black-Ears".
  • Graceful Loser: He takes his losses with class. When Kai outshone his people by making a vastly superior train-engine, using arc-welding, he grants Kai one favor, anything within his power. Kai requests a workshop and the same assistants who helped build the engine, so he can introduce new tech for both Albion and Garandoa. As a result of this and helping repel the Dhala invasion, he awards "Major Grey" the title of Earl, and his sister's hand in marriage, per the customs of his people.
  • Large and in Charge: King Havol is huge for a dwarf, and is the ruler of a very powerful country.
  • My Sister Is Off-Limits: Deathly protective of his sister and has high standards for who can become her husband.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He may have threatened to kill anyone who came near his sister, but that's because he knows everyone knows about the Ambrosia she possess and thus immediately (and wisely) suspects no outsider has her best interests at heart. Once he looks past that, he's a stand up guy.

    Build Master

Build Master

Build Master of Kai's Workshop in Garandoa

  • No Name Given: He's never referred by name.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He is quick to follow Kai's lead on the promise of new technology and while the other craftsmen weren't pleased with working with Kai, Build Master rallied them to follow along.

Neraia Isles

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flag_nereid.png
The Archipelago Kingdom of Nereids (Sea Elves), that had fallen to ruins, but has now made a comeback thanks to the power of Oceanos.
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture: Not as obvious as others, but their culture is based off of the state of Caribbean Islands during the "Era of Exploration"; where heavy interference from outside forces in this heavily contested archipelago have caused major problems for the technologically inferior native population.
  • Our Mermaids Are Different: Invoked, the Nereid used to be mermaids, but they've adapted to land so much they're essentially Sea Elves. They can dive deeper and hold their breath in the water for much longer than anyone else, but any other traits of merfolk are gone via evolution.

    Shiera

Queen Shiera

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nectar_of_dharani_4.jpg
A Nereid who comes to wield the Ambrosia of Oceanos and becomes Queen of the Neraia Isles.
  • Bedmate Reveal: While not in a bed, when Kai wakes up in the Labyrinth, he finds a naked Shiera lying next to him.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Starts out with a severe dislike of Kai and his Accidental Pervert moments, but after their misadventure in the labyrinth and the freeing of her people, she becomes much more affectionate toward him.
  • The High Queen: Becoming possessor of the Ambrosia and her distant relation to the nereid royal family makes her become the queen of the newly formed Neraia Kingdom.
  • Ignored Expert: Shiera refuses to guide any more adventurers into the Labyrinth because every time they went, they ignored her warnings and got killed by monsters.
  • Intimate Healing: After falling in the ocean, Shiera strips down naked and shares her body heat with Kai to save him from having a hypothermia.
  • Makinga Splash: She can bestow said powers of Water through her Ambrosia of Oceanos.
  • Our Elves Are Different: She is a Nereid, which is essentially a Sea Elf
  • Our Mermaids Are Different: She is descendant of the royal lineage and becomes a true mermaid when she's given Oceanos Ambrosia that was kept within the Labyrinth.
  • Polyamory: She doesn't mind sharing Kai with Aldia and even invites her to join them in bed.
  • Put on a Bus: After becoming queen of the Neraia Kingdom, she's forced to stay to lead her people, but promises to aid Kai should he call her.
    • The Bus Came Back: She returns to help Kai during the Synchar Arc as a mediator between the Sinchar Kingdom and the Nomads.
  • Required Secondary Powers: As expected from a descendant of Merfolk, Shiera shows herself capable of holding her breath far longer than a human and can withstand the cold-water temperatures and pressure without issue. She later gains the ability to turn her lower body into one like her mermaid ancestors.

Yashimano

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flag_yashimano.png
An Empire to the Cold East of Oni.
  • Fantastic Racism: The Oni have a "little" problem with viewing the other races of Yashimano as "second class". Particularly the Beast People, who are viewed as third rate.
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture: Of Sengoku/Meiji Japan, if the architecture, heavy classicism, numerous political problems weren't obvious enough.
    • Expanding on the Meiji era, Yashimano is going through a modernization period, but many refuse to change; wanting to remain in a warrior society that allows them dominion over those "beneath them".
    • Aragishi's Unit also reflect on WWII Imperial Japan; with a military unit attempting a coup so they return to their warrior roots.
  • Oni: Unlike most of the world that is populated by some subrace of Elf, Yashimano is mainly populated by Oni.
  • Stay in the Kitchen: Invoked, To go with the Oni's racism and classism, the Oni also heavily look down on women in certain roles of the military.

    Emperor

Emperor of Yashimano

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yashimanoemperor.png

  • A Child Shall Lead Them: The Emperor is just a young boy; as such he is very unsure of himself and heavily relies on assistants to guide him
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: Invoked, but unlike other examples, the Emperor has this cause he is just a small boy.
  • The Emperor: A surprisingly kind one at that.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: He's shocked and horrified that the leader of the traitors looking to eliminate him is his own uncle, who calls him "a mistake". Of course, said uncle made the mistake of running head first into Cursed-god mode Kai...
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He’s actively trying to make his country, which is heavily classicist and racist, a better place.
  • Risking the King: Uses himself as bait to draw out the traitors who backed Aragishi's bid for the throne.
  • Spare to the Throne: With the numerous regicides, the current Emperor was so far down the succession list, he has no idea how to govern.

    Kanaya

Sixthman Kanaya

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kanaya.png
Sixthman (roughly Lieutenant) Kanaya is the liaison between the Lemurian Company & Yashimano
  • The Mole: Revealed to be secretly working for the Emperor of Yashimano, and had been reporting the actions of Kobaki and Aragishi to the central government.
  • Scary Shiny Glasses: Has them while telling Aragishi that she has informed the Emperor of everything that has transpired, including his conspiracy.
  • The Smurfette Principle: The only female among the Yashimano ranks. This is apparently because women rarely join the army.
  • Token Good Teammate: She's the only member of the Aragishi's Unit that isn't a war criminal traitor. To a larger degree Kanaya is also the only one in the Yashimano army as a whole who isn't a racist jerk.

    Aragishi

Secondman (roughly General) Aragishi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aragishi.png

  • Ambition Is Evil: Aragishi has serious views on racial and class cleansing in Yashimano; going as far as to unite with a foriegn power and commit genocide without sanction. It's so bad when the Emperor orders him to justify his actions, Aragishi actually can't.
  • Did Not See That Coming: He was so overconfident in the power of Dhala's zeppelins, he didn't realize the Hasas were communicating with the Lemurian company using drums, nor that an ambush was awaiting his forces.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: He might be a traitor and a war criminal, but even he is disgusted by Valento's cannibalistic nature.
  • Fantastic Racism: His desire for racial and class cleansing is ridiculous.
  • Oh, Crap!: His reaction when the Emperor of Yashimano shows up along with Prince Luca from Albion, very much aware of his back dealings and attempts of treason.
  • Playing Both Sides: He pretends to help Albion while secretly working with Dhala to get rid of the rebels once and for all in exchange for a God Cursed.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: Aragishi is particularly obsessed with the racial superiority of the Oni, so much so that the Dhala Empire is actually put off.
  • This Can Not Be: He's utterly shocked when Kai brings down both of Dhala's Zeppelins.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Aragishi's extreme views cause him to make one too many empty promises and overplay his hand way too many times. by the time the jig is up, Dhala is happy to be rid of him.
  • Uncertain Doom: His last appearance has him on his hands and knees before the emperor, unable to justify his actions, judgment incoming. This judgement is not spelled out, but the punishment for treason, mass-murder, and other war-crimes is not likely to be pleasant, especially if he's held to his own standards.

    Kobaki

Forthman (roughly Major) Kobaki

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kobaki.png

Hasas

Assassins for hire who are currently working with the Dhala Empire for the payment of Ambrosia.

    Suzuri

High Mother Suzuri

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nectar_of_dharani_6.jpg
Click here  to see her in her Ambrosia Form

Leader of the Hasas, despite looking like a young girl.

  • Breast Expansion: When channeling her Ambrosia, her breasts go from flat to huge.
  • Enemy Mine: She gleefully agrees to let the Hasas be hired by the Lemurian Company if it means getting a chance to fight back against the oppressive Yashimano government, who had already backstabbed Kai by siding with Dhala and trying to kill him.
  • An Ice Person: Her Ambrosia of Nordri grants the power to command "Ice & Snow".
  • I Have Boobs, You Must Obey!: Suzuri has attempted to seduce Kai multiple times now, and each time she is rebuffed, she's more confused as to how he can possibly say no rather than be angry with him.
  • It Amused Me: The reason she's The Tease.
  • Older Than They Look: She may look like a young girl, but the respect she commands from the rest of the Hasas demonstrate she's much older.
    • She also confirms this by being able to manipulate her age, appearing as a young child, or a mature woman.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: Like Shakuntala (an Ambrosia wielder also capable of manipulating her appearance) Suzuri has no problems using her looks to get what she wants, openly trying to seduce Kai into sex and trying to convince the girls into an orgy.
  • Succubi and Incubi: Implied, Suzuri states she's an "Imma", basically the Japanese equivalent of a Succubus & Vampire combined; what she actually means by this is unknown.
  • The Tease: She just loves being one of these.

    Clark

Clark

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clark_3.png
A Marebito from 1940s America
  • Eagle Land: Clark is from WWII-era America and fought Nazi Germany, often called "The Greatest Generation", 'nuff said.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: As stated above, Clark is a technician from 1940s America. This makes his tech not too advanced for the current age he's in making him a full-fledged genius in this world.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Clark is a technician from 1940s America, which make him perfect for the current Industrial Revolution to the point where Kai even admits Clark's mind is far more valuable than his own as he's too far removed from the current level of technology. However, this also makes Clark the most sought after Marebito of the Dhala Empire and a certain Cannibal from there.
  • Official Couple: He's where he is now to be with Kiki, so she could be in a place that didn't treat her like a third rate citizen.
  • Real Men Love Jesus: As expected from a 1940s American man, Clark is a Christian; also, after consulting internally with himself and God, Clark didn't hesitate agreeing to sacrifice himself to help others. It takes his allies telling him his sacrifice will be meaningless to stop him.

    Kiki

Kiki

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kiki_8.png
Clark's Lover
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: Bless her heart, she tries to be helpful, but she trips on her on feet.
  • Nice Girl: Since she's Clark's lover, the Hasas treat her as a guest of honor so she literally doesn't have to do anything; however, Kiki still tries to be as helpful as possible to Suzuri.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Kiki is a "Tanuki-Girl".
  • Official Couple: With Clark

Sand Nomads

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sandnomads.png
A coalition of Nomads of the Desert
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture: The Sand Nomads are an obvious reference to the scattered Middle Eastern tribes during the Era of Exploration.

    Aldia

Aldia

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/volume12.png
The new Chieftain of one of the Sand Tribes.
  • Amnesiac Hero: Briefly she lost her memories of who she was, ending up in the care of Kai and Shiera.
  • Big Damn Kiss: Gives one to Kai after proclaiming him to be her future husband when he saves her people and helps finally start the negotiations between the Nomads and the Sincharians.
  • Blemished Beauty: She has a scar across the bridge of her nose but she's still considered quite beautiful.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: Her Ambrosia gives Kai power over sand and the earth.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Aldia is a "Bunny-Girl".
  • Mysterious Past: Aldia and Gil have "history", how much is yet to be revealed, but it appears very substantial.
  • Polyamory: She doesn't mind sharing Kai with Shiera and be his second wife, joining them naked in bed.
  • Secret-Keeper: She doesn't like it one bit, but she keeps the secret of Kai's plan to fake his death so he can go back to being Grey Enfield while keeping Sinchar united through his martyrdom.
  • Ship Tease: With Gil of all people due to their aforementioned "Mysterious Past". How his marriage to Shizuna affects this is current unexplored.
    • After losing her memories instead she falls for Kai.
  • Widowed at the Wedding: Kai has Gil fake his death right after he has married both Aldia and Yamilka.
  • You Are in Command Now: Her father has recently passed, passing leadership on to her.

Sinchar Empire

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sincharempire.png
An Empire of the Desert, years of scrapping a living in the desert have caused them to become cruel and elitist
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture: Like their Sand Nomad counterparts the Sinchar are based off the Middle East of the Era of Exploration, specifically the Empires like Persia.

    Yamilka

Yamilka

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yamilka.png
The current Shah of Sinchar, whom Kai is sent to impress and gain her allegiance for Albion.
  • Beauty Equals Goodness: Averted at first and then enforced, Yamilka starts an overweight and unkind ruler, but after turning over a new leaf, she drops all the weight (nearly instantly) and becomes so beautiful and nice even Kai and Gil are stunned.
  • Depraved Bisexual: She has no problem forcing herself on both the male and female concubines of her harem. Even after her Heel–Face Turn, she has no problem proposing a threesome with Aldia and Kai.
  • Fanservice Pack: Introduced as an unpleasant Fat Bitch, when she awakens from her coma caused by stress, not only her features become just as pretty as those of the other girls, she keeps her big boobs and revealing clothing.
  • Formerly Fat: She was introduced as a bonafide Fat Bitch, but after awakening from a coma, not only she loses most weight, she's far nicer and reasonable.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Like most Sincharians she's a beast-person, but which type is not specified.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Unlike Aldia, Yamilka isn't informed about Kai's plan to fake his death and become a martyr to unite both the Sincharians and the Sand Nomads.
  • Polyamory: She agrees to marry Kai alongside Aldia so both can unite the Desert nomads and the Sincharians.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Besides losing a lot of weight, Yamilka becomes very much nice and reasonable, thanking Kai for a meal he prepared for her.

Adarr Kingdom

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/adarrroyalfamily.png
The Adarr Royal Family, Princesses Sakura and Kasha
The Fallen Kingdom of which Princess Sakura hails from.
  • Doomed Hometown: Doomed Kingdom more like, The Dhala Empire attacked and took over Adarr, causing their ally Albion to declare war on Dhala.
  • Fallen Princess: Sakura and Kasha hail from here
  • Never Found the Body: The Adarr Royal Family save 2nd princess Sakura are all unaccounted for.
  • The Good Kingdom: What stories seem to imply.
