    In General
  • Adaptational Dumbass: Due to the rampant flanderization of the entire cast, each of the Mane Six are reduced to the traits that the author finds the most annoying: Rainbow Dash's egotism, Rarity's vanity, Pinkie Pie's hyperactivity, etc. This is done mainly to make them more of a burden to Starfleet as a whole, with their entire purpose being to show how much more awesome Starfleet are and how they need to shape up to be just like them (and also because he genuinely believes they're that incompetent). In canon, they only suffer from the occasional holding of the Idiot Ball, Jerkass Ball, or Conflict Ball, but are otherwise bright ponies that show a lot more intelligence than this fic (or the author) would have you believe.
  • Adaptational Wimp: While the ponies in canon are by no means all-powerful, it's still a World of Badass where the everyday pony is capable of incredible feats of strength, speed, durability and magic prowess, with the Mane Six themselves being among the best in their respective categories. Not so much in Starfleet, however; even if their canon abilities are referenced, they'll always be overshadowed by the Space Ponies, and whatever powers they had either pale in comparison, or are utterly useless in a combat setting, forcing them into the role of "Lesser Starfleet".
  • Always Someone Better: No matter how capable they are, the Space Ponies will always be better in every conceivable way; even if a character specializes in something that would help them, they will never be a match for Lightning Dawn and his team.
  • Butt-Monkey: By the boatload. They're always the race that has something bad happen to them, such as being belittled or shown up by the Space Ponies, having terrible nightmares, losing family members and, in some cases, losing their own lives. On top of that, their canon capabilities are heavily downplayed, reduced to punches, kicks and laser blasts, and their competence is well below simply making a dumb decision every once in a while. Even if the Equestrians get stronger, they'll always fall behind the Space Ponies.
  • The Complainer Is Always Wrong: If, and when, an Equestrian decides to speak out against, or disagree with, any of Starfleet's philosophies, this is how they're presented. For instance, whenever Brass tries to complain about Starfleet, everyone around him starts shooting him down.note
  • Distress Ball: They lose all competence in the fic, meaning that Starfleet usually has to do all the work.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Even those who actually hate Starfleet (Ace Ray and Brass Bolt) will still never ally with scum like Titan to get rid of Starfleet.
  • Flanderization: Because of the author's distaste and disapproval of characters having more than one personality trait, every single character becomes a Flat Character defined by only one trait.
  • Took a Level in Dumbass: They're all made far less competent than in the source material just to make Starfleet look better by comparison, and because it's how the author sees them. Granted, Starfleet doesn't look that much smarter in comparison...
  • The Worf Effect: They are mostly used to demonstrate how great the Space Ponies are.

Equestrians

    Queen Celestia
The ruler of Equestria, and later, co-ruler of United Equestria and Celesto's wife.

    Twilight Sparkle
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/twilight_falls_too_soon.jpg
"They do WHAT to me in Season III?! I do not approve this!"
Believes in The Power of Friendship and desire to do the right thing despite orders.
  • Brought Down to Normal: She gets her wings destroyed by Nightmare Moon for no established reason whatsoever. She got better between seasons 2 and 3.
  • Butt-Monkey: It's hard to keep track of all the times she gets belittled, berated, and contradicted by her Space Pony colleagues through out the story. She also has the dubious honor of being the only main character to get Killed Off for Real.
  • Chickification: She is a fairly competent leader and mage in canon, but here she's stuck playing second fiddle to Lightning Dawn until the day she dies.
  • Died in Your Arms Tonight: She dies in Lightning's arms.
  • Family-Unfriendly Death: She gets run through by Raven's claws, at least according to the latter's bio. In the fic itself, she's run through by a SHOT THROUGH THE HEART and winds up exploding.
  • Killed Off for Real: In "Season" III, courtesy of Raven.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: In case the rest of these entries didn't tip you off, Season III inflicted her with a fatal case of death. And the later seasons won't shut up about it.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: On occasion, including the one that gets her killed. Clearly she's been learning from Lightning.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: She momentarily deals one to Raven, being the first pony to actually damage her. Unfortunately, Raven breaks free.
  • Only Sane Woman: After learning why Frieda hates Hearth's Warming, Twilight tells her to merely get the chance to celebrate without her Abusive Dad hindering her and the others, instead of making sure everyone is as unhappy as her. Frieda and Starfleet are livid she dared propose common sense.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: She's still a princess and was the only one willing to do anything against Raven, which wound up resulting in her death. Earlier, she shared the spotlight with Lightning more than once.
  • To Be Lawful or Good: Firmly on the good side, she defies orders to pursue and stop an assassin. She is treated as in the wrong, and gets killed for it.
  • Unstoppable Rage: Threatening Princess Celestia is not a wise decision while Twilight is around; physically attacking her is an even worse idea, as she will not let you off the hook easily. When Raven did the latter, Twilight went berserk and went after Raven without letting anything get in her way, not even Lightning trying to stop her instead of helping against Raven; it took a fatal wound to finally slow her down.
  • Walking Spoiler: Well yeah, it's kind of hard not to spoil a dead pony, especially the leader of the Mane Six.

    Applejack
Has a southern accent, talks in really bad countryisms, and (accidentally) has good chemistry with Buddy.

    Rarity
Melodramatic, vain, and obsessed with fashion.
  • Babies Ever After: Is pregnant with Spike's baby in VIII.
  • Butt-Monkey: While not quite to Cadance's extent (yet), Rarity gets plenty of abuse throughout the fics. Repeatedly humiliated for her vanity, getting stuck with the Midas Touch, falling in love with a villain, only to watch him die, hallucinating vividly while in labor, nearly dying, having her species changed without her consent (again!), falling into a depression because of it, it's very much in play for her.
  • Emergency Transformation: After nearly dying in "Factory Destruction Line", she undergoes a surgery that turns her into a half-dragon hybrid. Rarity was initially not pleased with the revelation.
  • Flanderization: She's only defined by her love of fashion and her looks. She is portrayed as constantly forcing makeovers on those who don't want them, being rather more self-centered and materialistic, and whining quite a bit. As well, while Rarity in the source material could be a Drama Queen at times (and could she ever), here she tends to overreact to everything.
    • Her reaction to her transformation into a half-dragon hybrid is an especially notable example. While freaking out over your body radically changing is perfectly understandable, she also explicitly states that she hated her new body because she thinks it's not beautiful, never mind that in canon, recognizing that beauty doesn't always need to be external is a major trait of hers. Here, it's Rhymey and Fluttershy who had to convince her that she's still beautiful on the inside.
    • Another example is when she was worried about her baby. Not because it was a kirin and could potentially kill her, but because it might have looked ugly.
  • Kirin: While not explicitly said as such, Rarity's new half-dragon body, not unlike her daughter's, could be best described as this.
  • Freakiness Shame: After waking up from her surgery, Rarity is horrified over her new body for the next three chapters.
  • Midas Touch: In one part of My Brave Pony: Starfleet Magic II, she essentially gets the golden touch. Anyone familiar with her Butt-Monkey status and/or has heard of King Midas should know where this is going...
  • Skewed Priorities: While her baby is being born, she is more scared about the baby being ugly than her health, which is critical.
  • Winged Unicorn: She gets wings somewhere down the line.

    Pinkie Pie
  • Adaptational Wimp: Removing all of Pinkie's creative tricks and making her stick to punches and kicks makes Pinkie weaker than her canon self.
  • Babies Ever After: Is pregnant with Spice's child at the end of IX.
  • Flanderization: She is portrayed as being so annoying that even her friends groan at her. She's also shown to be a bit of a crybaby.
  • To Be Lawful or Good: She rushes to help others even after ordered not to, like other Equestrians and unlike Starfleet. The readers are supposed to see it as foolish.
  • Took a Level in Dumbass: In canon, Pinkie Pie is something of a Genius Ditz. Here, she loses the "genius" part of the equation to Flanderization.
  • Womanchild: Due to losing her Hidden Depths.

    Fluttershy
She's shy and loves animals and Rhymey.

    Rainbow Dash
She always rushes into conflict without thinking things through.
  • Dumb Muscle: Is a Rare Female Example; her main characterization here is "the idiot that always charges into a fight and never thinks things through".
  • Everyone Has Standards: Although she's no Only Sane Mare herself, even she cannot stand what a "jerk" Ace Ray is.
  • Flanderization: While Rainbow Dash wasn't exactly the most well-read pony, here she's reduced to little more than Dumb Muscle. Her dream of joining the Wonderbolts is also subject to this; here, she's willing to simply wish herself to the top, while in canon, Rainbow tries to get in solely through her own effort and would sooner give up on them than betray her own ideals.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: She complains about overworking, which is a legitimate reason to complain.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Even worse than Lightning in this regard, which gets her subjected to The Worf Effect.
  • Smug Super: Still as cocky about her speed, but can back it up a little less than in canon.
  • Super-Speed: She is still very fast and proud of it. However, Starfleet is supposed to be even faster.

    Spike
He's Twilight's former assistant, loves Rarity, and is the Dragon Knight. Also a bit of a glutton... and that's about it.
  • Cain and Abel: With his long-lost sister. Spike is naturally the Abel.
  • Deus ex Machina: His Majestic Dragon form. It's incredibly powerful, but Spike cannot call on it at will and it only manifests whenever he and/or his friends are in dire peril, and even then only when the plot demands it.
  • Dragon Knight: His first Super Mode, natch.
  • In the Blood: His father was the previous Dragon Knight.
  • Legacy Character: He takes on the mantle of the Dragon Knight, inheriting the powers of the previous one.
  • The Load: He thought of himself as this, up until he Took a Level in Badass.
  • Magic Knight: As the Dragon Knight.
  • Skewed Priorities: In IV, he's less concerned about the 5-year age gap between him and Rarity than the fact that they're different species.
  • Super Mode: The Dragon Knight and even stronger Majestic Dragon.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Unlike the other MLP characters who are flanderized to one-note caricatures and are weaker than their canon selves, Spike at the very least gets to transform into the Dragon Knight. He later takes a second one, allowing him to transform into the Majestic Dragon.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: His ability to transform into the Dragon Knight is tied to his confidence, meaning that the transformation is dependent entirely on his mood. This puts him out of the fight for most of season 4 due to him constantly angsting about Rarity's crush on Thunder Cloud.

    Princess Luna
She's Celestia's sister.
  • A Day in the Limelight: In Season X, she finishes off Titan's Trio, all of them at once. Ironic, as they once worked with Nightmare Moon.
  • Chickification: From a warrior princess to caretaker for babies.
  • Demoted to Extra: After the first Starfleet Magic, Luna seldom appears. Even in the first fic, she doesn't even get to beat her own Evil Counterpart.

    Princess Cadance
The fic's favorite punching bag which regularly gives her new things to angst about.
  • Break the Cutie: So, so much, starting with Fratello's cruel fate and going downhill from there.
  • Butt-Monkey: Let's see... She's had to kill her own brother, then watch him die two more times just because, get gaslit by mysterious voices in her subsequent nightmares, lose her husband to the Insectos, suffer a miscarriage and be rendered infertile by said husband due to him being Brainwashed and Crazy, nearly die again trying to have a second baby, nearly have said baby die then kidnapped... Yeah, the amount of abuse heaped on her throughout the story is staggering. And she gets No Sympathy, because she is a married woman.
  • Cain and Abel: The Abel to Fratello's Cain. Unlike the Trope Namers, she ends up having to kill him rather than the other way around.
  • Damsel in Distress: Gets captured by the Devils and trapped inside Von Devilor in IX. She also is the one who gets in danger most of the time because of the villains.
  • Distress Ball: Probably more so than the other princesses.
  • Gratuitous Ninja: She gets a Super Mode as the Silent Ninja... just because. It doesn't fit her personality really.
  • Imperiled in Pregnancy: Which eventually results in her Convenient Miscarriage.
  • Love Goddess: This finally becomes important to the plot in season 9, where she is revealed to be the creator of the Healing of Love with no foreshadowing.
  • Mummies at the Dinner Table: Keeps the corpse of her stillborn colt around for 9 chapters. Decomposition is not an issue apparently.
  • No Sympathy: When confronted with her suffering over losing her brother, Lightning (politely) tells her to suck it up because other people have it worse and is presented as right for it.
  • Past Experience Nightmare: As a result of having to kill her own brother.

    Shining Armor
He's Cadance's husband, who later gets brainwashed by Insectos.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: He spends much of Season 5 this way, due to being Mind Raped by the Insectos.
  • Demonic Possession: By the spirit of Insecto General Saber, due to Pinsar putting Saber's mask on him.
  • Mask of Power: The Mask of Saber, used to brainwash him and channel the power of General Saber. After the brainwashing is undone, he gets to keep the mask and powers.
  • Redemption Demotion: The first time Saber takes over him, he proves to be a very tough foe for Starfleet and the Monster of the Week they were fighting, who also was a threat to them. When he becomes good again, while he still can access the form of Saber, he is no more effective than any other regular member of the team.
  • Taking the Bullet: In Season X, he defends Cadance this way and is knocked out by Titan's Trio.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Chews out his wife for caring about her brother, Fratello.

    Ace Ray
A former Wonderbolt, Ace Ray did not take well to the merger of Unicornicopia and Equestria and made sure that everyone knew about it. Seeing Starfleet as emblematic of everything wrong with their new society, he became obsessed with exposing them as frauds, costing him his job. As of Season 3, he was taken into custody to... "convince" him of the error of his ways.
  • Adaptational Villainy: The last rewrite (which was temporary), made him worse, as he said it was Skye's fault he hit her.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: An inverted case. He's Skye's older brother and she finds his knack for complaining about Starfleet irritating.
  • Brainwashed: To like Starfleet and feel sorry for attacking his sister in the original version. In the updated version, he's "merely" sent to an insane asylum instead.
  • Cain and Abel: The Cain to Skye, as he opposes the protagonists and she doesn't.
  • The Cameo: Makes one in the sixth season, threatening to get everyone who supports Starfleet before being sedated.
  • Determinator: He continues trying to convince other characters that Starfleet sucks, although hardly anyone listens to him. During his "fight" with Lightning Dawn, he keeps trying to beat him up, despite clearly being no match for him.
Ace Ray: [To Lightning Dawn] I'm going to beat you EVEN [sic] IT KILLS ME!
  • Fatal Flaw: Several of his predicaments would have been averted if he just let go of his hatred of Starfleet, or if he just didn't hate them in the first place.
  • Flanderization: In his first appearance, he does hate Starfleet, but has other priorities such as his sister. By the time of My Brave Pony: Starfleet Magic III, all he does is rant about his hatred of Starfleet and hates his sister.
  • Formerly Fit: He was originally fit and athletic,... until he got fired from the Wonderbolts, causing him to constantly eat and become overweight plus unathletic.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard:
    • If he hadn't decided to try to beat Skye's love for Starfleet out of her, he wouldn't have been arrested by Starfleet for breaking the law.
    • Extremely downplayed during his trial in a latter re-written version; his response to the judge's questionnote  made him look even more unstable (at least to the court). However, the narration states his case was "fairly simple", suggestion he would have been thrown in Xandra regardless of how he responded.
  • I'll Kill You!: Says something similar to Skye after she declares him to be as bad as the evil they face, which results in him being officially declared a criminal, beaten and arrested.
  • Informed Attribute: Is stated to be insane in the rewritten version, but there is little to suggest that this is the case.
  • Jerkass: How he's depicted. As the narration put it, "[Ace Ray] was usually a very unfriendly pony, always in a grouchy mood. He was also rather petty-minded, and intolerant of those different from himself, and often gave those who disagreed with him a rough time.". Rainbow Dash even calls him a "jerk" once.
  • Karmic Butt-Monkey: He's depicted as an ungrateful jerkass with an irrational obsession with hating Starfleet. The story also subjects him to various humiliations.
  • Kick the Dog: Is rude to Lightning Dawn and Starla for trying to save him, attacks Skye (his sister), insults Princess Celestia, etc.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: After essentially being brainwashed in the original version, he reacts this way to memories of his past actions.
  • Never My Fault: When something bad happens to Ace, he'll blame Starfleet for it. For instance, according to the narration, he was kicked out of the Wonderbolts for harassing its pro-Starfleet members. Despite this clearly being his own choice, he blames the "stupid Starfleet overlords" for this when a frustrated Skye tells him he needs to improve his attitude and get a new job.
  • The Prankster: Discussed. According to Captain Spitfire during his trial, Ace used to prank other ponies.
  • Put on a Bus to Hell: In the rewritten version, he's last seen strapped down in an asylum and sedated.
  • Rage Within the Machine: One of the only Equestrian ponies who isn't completely wowed by Starfleet. Quite the opposite, really.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Despite his open loathing of Starfleet, Ace's younger sister Skye clearly supports them.
  • Straw Loser: Mykan (the author of this fic) wrote Ace as an insult to his critics; he's also presented as an overweight ex-Wonderbolt who got kicked off for badmouthing Starfleet, and used as a strawman who makes complaints about them that exist to be completely shut down by the heroes.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: From a sympathetic character who just doesn't like Starfleet to someone who encourages violence against them because he was becoming too sympathetic. In Season X, it's referenced his hate of Starfleet made him morbidly insane.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: He badmouths Starfleet when they help him defend Skye from a Changeling. He's also rude to them when they try to save him and Skye from a couple of robots.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Genuinely believes Starfleet are tyrants and makes some legitimate points. But gathering a mob and beating up his sister for disagreeing with him is way too extreme.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Beats up his own sister while threatening to force her to hate Starfleet like he does, which is treated as a major Kick the Dog moment.

    Skye Light
Ace Ray's beleaguered younger sister who loves Starfleet.

    Khana Ling
Khana Ling is first introduced in Season 3 as the wife of Cookie Dough and the estranged daughter of Ho Meng.
  • Babies Ever After: Has a son, Chop Stick, with Cookie Dough.
  • Blue Boy, Pink Girl: The Pink Girl to Cookie's Blue Boy.
  • Mighty Whitey and Mellow Yellow: Khana Ling is a young Asian pegasus who fell out with her abusive father after her mother's death before meeting Cookie Dough, who defends her from Ho Meng and naturally proves to be a far superior chef to either of them.
  • Satellite Love Interest: Downplayed compared to other examples; in her debut, her role in the episode centers around her strained relationship with her father, but other than that, she's just Cookie Dough's wife, and after the plot is resolved, she fully falls back into this.

    Brass Bolt
  • Bad Liar: His excuse when he's caught trying to escape after Celesto and Celestia reveal they were going to use a spell which would expose whoever released Conva's prisoners? He claims that he was trying not to be late for another job. Nobody believed him due to him clearly being anxious. He also later tries lying he didn't free the prisoners, which nobody believed, at least when Celesto uses a spell to expose it as a lie.
  • The Cracker: He successfully breaks into the main computer system of one of Starfleet's prisons.
  • Manipulative Bastard: He tricks his co-workers into thinking Conva's released prisoners attacked him while he was taking a breather from work. He actually freed them and none of them attacked him.
  • Only Sane Man: Amusingly, he could be considered a rare accidental deconstruction of this trope. Though he is supposed to be seen as an obnoxious jerkass, the fact is, every criticism he says about Starfleet is very accurate. However, the fact that no one, not even other Equestrians, takes him seriously and treats him like an annoyance or just a joke, always taking the side of Starfleet and outright saying, to his face, that Lightning Dawn would be in the right for arresting him or kicking his ass, while also being socially isolated for his attitude and views on Starfleet, even by his co-workers... suddenly, him having a hallucination of Lightning Dawn mocking him, along with several other Space Ponies, makes a startling amount of sense.
  • Put on a Bus to Hell: He gets arrested by Starfleet and dragged off to an unknown fate.
  • Rage Within the Machine: Hates Starfleet with a passion. He could almost be the protagonist of a story in a Dystopia setting.
Brass Bolt: "Some day, the truth is going to come out, and people will see you freaks for what you really are!"
  • Sanity Slippage: Undergoes this after having been mocked for his views on Starfleet one too many times.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: For Ace Ray, of all people, both being strawmen who criticize Starfleet.
  • Take That, Critics!: He's a jab at and is based on Brassboy212, who formerly supported the author and called Starfleet's ways borderline fascist. Afterwards, Brassboy stated comically in a skype chat among his friends, "I don't know whether to feel honored, offended, or both.".
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: He only meant to release some of the prisoners to show Starfleet up. Instead, he ended up releasing all of them, setting many of their enemies loose.

    Zecora
Rhymes very poorly in a thick accent.

    Lippy Sync
Solely exists to praise Starfleet and get mistreated by his family.

    Tree Hugger
A hippie who wants to get in Buddy's pants.
  • Babies Ever After: Is pregnant with Buddy's child in Season VII.
  • A Day in the Limelight: She gets an episode dedicated to her in Season XI, where she shows her own skills and doesn't act like Buddy's Satellite Love Interest. Instead, she is shown as a Jack of All Trades whose time management skills make her a target for the enemy.
  • Demoted to Satellite Love Interest: Her entire role in the story is to be Buddy Rose's arm candy.
  • Informed Flaw: Mentions near the end of "Free to be Tree" that she's envious of Rainbow for being stronger and cooler than her, but the narrative never mentions this, which is especially notable as it openly details Rainbow's and multiple other characters' jealousy of Tree's time management skills.
  • Jack of All Trades: As a hippie, she likes doing many jobs, even being a doctor, and is good at them for a non-professional, but doesn't truly have a job because she hates being in one place. Her time management skills make the Mane Five jealous.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: In Season X, when the Idiots become an actual threat to Starfleet, she loses her composure.
  • Satellite Love Interest: To Buddy Rose.

    Sea Green
He's a marine biologist, Skystar's boyfriend, and Going Native.

    Fisher Bait
He's Sea Green's father.
  • Going Native: After being saved by Skystar, he is forced to stay in Seaquestria to hide the kingdom's existence from everyone else.

    Striker
A Starfleet cadet who highly values his strength. Also an arrogant jerk who is Swift Star's cousin and gets possessed by the Big Bad of the season.
  • The Bully: Because he is the strongest cadet, he always picks fights with others to show off and is too aggressive. His arrogance is too much even for Lightning.
  • Demonic Possession: Spends most of the story as Stammadon's vessel.
  • Expy: He's basically Jarrod from Power Rangers Jungle Fury, being an arrogant bully at first that gets possessed by the true villain, Stammadon, but gets saved by his nicer relative.
  • Irony: He values strength above everything else. So does the demon who takes over him.
  • Jerkass: He's not pleasant as a person, constantly mocking the perceived weaknesses of his fellow cadets and picking duels with them for fun. Lightning Dawn has him dismissed from Starfleet for not playing well with others. Ironically, it's mentioned his body has goodness and purity that weakens Stammadon.
  • Sore Loser: He doesn't take his dismissal very well at all, barging in on a conference and attacking Lightning for it. It does not end well.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: After seeing that his obsession with strength made him susceptible to being possessed by Stammadon, he realizes he was wrong and becomes much less of an asshole. Notably, he is very grateful for being freed.

    Swift Star
Lightning Dawn's personal pupil whom he took in to maintain confidence in Starfleet. Introduced in Season VIII.
  • Audience Surrogate: Often the target of exposition about Starfleet's training and personal lives, and he also is often full of questions answered in the story.
  • Author Avatar: In Season X, he opposes strawmen of the author's critics.
  • Calling Your Attacks: The one character who exploits this to outsmart a monster.
  • Chick Magnet: He attracts several women, all less moral and more powerful than him. En Shi, Starlight Glimmer, and it's teased there will be one more in Season XII.
  • Distressed Dude: He has a lot of trouble with En Shi.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?:
    • He complains about that to Lightning, as some civilians hate him for supporting Starfleet. Lightning does respect him though.
    • Two seasons earlier, he saves everyone twice, once by taking down En Shi's ice wall and monster, and once by taking down Stammadon with the Pure Inner Strength... and is scolded by the whole of Starfleet, who also blame him for being kidnapped.
  • Foil: To Starlight Glimmer in Season X. Swift is the apprentice of Lightning and actually has a healthy relationship with him, which leads to Lightning improving as a person, while Starlight is the apprentice of Titan and both put themselves before each other. The two even develop chemistry with each other in the later half of the season.
  • "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: Invoked to Striker, and is proven right.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Blaming a world for being destroyed is jerkish by default, but he isn't wrong when he mentions Suicidal Pacifism can have devastating consequences.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: He saves everyone in Season VIII by smashing En Shi's ice wall and personally beating the Monster of the Week. This gets En Shi's attention, who kidnaps and nearly rapes him.
  • Rousing Speech: He often makes speeches to inspire his friends or call out the flawed logic of his foes. Turns out this is the one thing he is very talented at.
  • Supporting Protagonist: He is no Lightning, Celesto or Mykan Stevens, but he has a very big role and even an arc in Seasons VIII and X, and he is still relevant in Season XI.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: He shares quite a few similarities with Twilight Sparkle. Both are Equestrians that are new members of Starfleet and learn from Lightning Dawn. Both stand out against the rest of Starfleet for believing that some villains can be redeemed and being willing to defy orders in order to protect others (something which Starfleet admonishes them for). Where they differ is that Swift isn't as much of a Butt-Monkey as Twilight was.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: He gives three of them.
    • The first is to En Shi, telling her her love with him is not true and is merely an obsession.
    • The second is to Beaker, calling him out for hating Starfleet, pointing out Starfleet made technological progress and that taking them out is a bad idea because Titan is active.
    • The third is to Sole Maker, criticizing his workaholic ways and bad parenting.
  • Token Good Teammate: Of Starfleet. He shows notably more tolerance to others who disagree with him than the main Starfleet officers and genuinely acts like he is in a democratic country, and also is the one determined to save Striker. He also tries and fails to redeem En Shi. Notably, a speech he makes would be genuinely able to counter criticism if it didn't clash with things shown in previous seasons. He also disobeys orders to protect his mentor and allies, even when he is seemingly outmatched and even inspires Lightning to stand up to Celesto as one example of bringing the best out of his teacher.
  • Weak, but Skilled: An Earth Pony whose power level is far below even that of the Mane Five, but he is actually smart and creative, and that makes him effective.
  • Workaholic: Downplayed, but he does overwork in his Starfleet duties for the Greater Good to the point he is called out repeatedly.

    Data Stream
An evil and petty computer hacker who blames everyone but herself for her misery.
  • The Cracker: Aspires to be one. This is despite United Equestria (for some reason) choosing not to adopt the Internet, much to her frustration.
  • Dick Dastardly Stops to Cheat: She can use her hacking skills to gain a job back... but prefers wasting time sending viruses to spite others, which never works because of the Data Squad.
  • Evil Duo: With Megadox. Data veers towards the Superego of the duo, due to at least having a clear aim while Megadox just wants to create havoc.
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: A villainess who sports Nerd Glasses.
  • Nerd Glasses: With thick, square frames.
  • Never My Fault: The reason for her villainy is that she blames everyone else for her failures and wants revenge when she gets consequences. She even blames Megadox when her schemes go wrong. Growing out of this is essential for her redemption.
  • Palette Swap: Is described as looking like Twilight Sparkle, but with a pink coat and glasses, and without wings or a horn.
  • Redemption Equals Death: Turns against Megadox and helps destroy him, but is killed in the process, and decides to roam the internet as a guardian.
  • Stupid Evil:
    • She could either alter her bio to make herself look cool... or destroy everyone else's, especially Cadance's. She doesn't think of the former until it's too late.
    • She doesn't evacuate United Equestria when Megadox attacks. She stays there and gloats about the destruction. Thus, she easily gets caught by Lightning.

    Twilight Sparkle-Scales
The child of Spike and Rarity. Introduced in Season VIII.
  • Dead Girl Junior: She's named after the deceased Twilight Sparkle.
  • Identical Stranger: Resembles her namesake, complete with purple eyes and pink highlights, despite the two being unrelated.
  • Kirin: She is the child of a pony and a dragon, although she is called a "Dragony" by Dr. Penny.

    Flurry Heart
She's Shining Armor and Cadance's daughter and little else.

    Bright Mac and Pear Butter

    Seeder Breeze

    Shadow Coat
He's a royal guard, old-fashioned, and devoted to Queen Galaxia.
  • Human Popsicle: Or pony, in this case. He was frozen for many years before being saved by Starfleet.

    Apple Spice
He's to be married to Applejack, but falls in love with Pinkie Pie instead.
  • Arranged Marriage: When he and Applejack were little, their parents arranged a marriage between them. However, his parents died and Applejack's were turned into Batlings before they could break the news. Now that AJ's parents are back, they have to be married by the end of the summer.
  • Love Triangle: He's supposed to get married to Applejack, but quickly develops feelings for Pinkie Pie.
  • Remember the New Guy?: He was not mentioned before Season IX. Pear Butter and Bright Mac justify this by saying that they were turned into Batlings before they could tell Applejack she was going to be married to him. However, they reunited with AJ about a year before the marriage was ever brought up, so it's no excuse.

    Clipper
The only reason for his existence is to diss critics of Rhymey and Fluttershy as a couple.
  • Arch-Enemy: To Rhymey because he wants Fluttershy. He and Rhymey have a pure duel with swords.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Dearka shoots a capsule into him that amplifies his inner hatred, as well as his power and strength, which causes him to go on a rampage to kill Rhymey.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: Does not like Rhymey for being married to Fluttershy.
  • Entitled to Have You: Does not care if Fluttershy is married to and has a kid with Rhymey. As far as he's concerned, Fluttershy should be his and his alone.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Whilst his love for Fluttershy come from a place of entitlement, it does briefly manage to snap him out of the Devils' control when he attempts to attack her.
  • Expy: He's very similar to how Mykan portrays Davis Montoya in his Digimon Adventure 02 fanfics. Both fell in love with a girl and feel entitled to their affection because they were nice to them when they were little. When the girl they loved instead fell in love with someone else, they became antagonistic towards everyone, especially their former love and the guy they wound up dating. A villain exploits this to brainwash them into becoming much worse than before for their evil purposes. The main difference is that Clipper is viewed as the jealous and entitled creep he is.
  • Irony: A rare meta-level example, he was obviously created as a crack at people who didn't like Fluttershy and Ryhmey as a couple. However, his personality and overall motive can very easily be compared to the way Mykan writes characters such as Beast Boy, Davis, Helper Soul, Emil Kudos and Stone Heart. All of them had unrequited feelings for a woman and the narrative treated said woman as though they're in the wrong for not automatically falling in love with them regardless of how they truly felt. In short, had Mykan used Clipper in any other fic outside of this one, he'd no doubt write Clipper as in the right.
  • Jerkass: He is an entitled asshole who will kill to get the woman he loves, and the only male character who does that and is portrayed as the bastard he is.
  • Take That, Critics!: Is meant to be a stand-in for people who hate Rhymey and Fluttershy's relationship. Take three guesses on how he's portrayed.
  • Yandere: He's a Rare Male Example; he's a Crazy Jealous Guy who's obsessed with Fluttershy, and is willing to kill to get her.

    Queen Galaxia
She's Celestia and Luna's mom, and died fighting off the Elements of Chaos.

    Biscuit Pie

    Lil' Fair
  • Actual Pacifist: She doesn't want to hurt anyone, not even her Abusive Dad who tries to kill her, and she is horrified by everything that the ghost does using her body.
  • A Mistake Is Born: Sole Maker and Lady Fair never intended to have children and instead had plans to travel the world and live in comfort but Lady never knew she was pregnant until later. During one of his rants, Sole shouts that Lil should never have been born.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: She calls out her father Sole for being an Abusive Dad, whereupon he tries to kill her for it.
  • Deal with the Devil: When she first meets the ghost, she agrees she'll do "anything" in exchange for it granting her wish of never having to grow up. She quickly comes to regret it when she learns that the ghost wants to possess her body so she can reek havoc across United Equestria.
  • Demonic Possession: The ghost is able to take possession of her body whenever she falls asleep so that she can attack others. Eventually, the Spirit's power becomes strong enough that she no longer needs Lil asleep to take control.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: After dealing with her Abusive Dad and Demonic Possession by a ghost throughout all of her chapters, she's finally freed from Little Jewel's ghost and her father is sent to an insane asylum for trying to kill her. Also, she learns to accept growing up, her mother starts to become a better parent to her and she makes friends with the CMC and reconciles with her old friends.
  • Fighting from the Inside: When the spirit takes control of Lil's body whilst she's awake, her inner spirit tries to fight back and take back control.
  • Growing Up Sucks: Her characterization revolves around this, to the point where she's willing to trust a stranger, in a world where magic is omnipresent, to "fix" the problem for her.
  • Kiddie Kid: Is teased as being immature for a 9 year old by her classmates, since she refuses to grow up.

    Sole Maker
  • Abusive Dad: He was always a poor parent but it escalates when he tries to kick his daughter Lil' (a 9 year old) out of the house, then attempts to kill her when she calls him out for it.
  • Child Hater: He despises all children as "rotten brats". He displays his attitude most to his daughter, but also to other kids in the neighbourhood, the CMC and the rest of Cheerilee's class.
  • Cranky Neighbor: A gruff, Jerkass neighbor.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: He is the typical gruff neighbour who overreacts to noisy kids playing ball close to him. And he also tries to kill his daughter for distracting him from his work.
  • Hate Sink: Every scene he's in has him being a terrible father to Lil' and unplesant Jerkass to everyone else he meets. It eventually culminates in him kicking Lil' out of their home and then trying to kill her for calling him out on his treatment of her.
  • Irony: Despite being a massive Child Hater, Applejack notes that he threw a "childish fit" when they pressed charges against him to refund the students for the field trip that he cancelled.
  • Jerkass: Noted to be one by Lightning. From his interactions with Lil' Fair, he's shown to be short-tempered and gruff, and very petty.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Well, he wasn't wrong about Lil' Fair having to improve her grades.
  • Jumping Off the Slippery Slope: From a workaholic dad who is neglectful at worst to a monster who tries to kill his daughter.
  • Offing the Offspring: Attempts to kill his daughter Lil'. Key word being, attempts.
  • Parental Neglect: Not as obvious as Way Fair, but he's noted to be constantly working and it's implied that he also doesn't pay much mind to his daughter Lil'.
  • Put on a Bus to Hell: After Little Jewel's ghost leaves Lil' Fair, Starfleet arrest Sole for his attempted murder of Lil and he's commited to an insane asylum (the same one that Ace Ray was sent to).
  • Workaholic: His primary trait as noted by Lightning is that he's obsessed with his job and gets very angry if distracted from his work regardless of the circumstances.

    Lady Fair
  • The Atoner: After being put on probation by Starfleet for child neglect, she takes parenting courses and gets a job so she can keep custody of Lil' and become a better mother to her.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Whilst she is vain to the point of being neglectful of Lil' Fair, she does still care about her and is horrified when Sole Maker declares he wishes she was never born and later tries to kick her out of the house.
  • It's All About Me: Cares mostly about her looks and lazing off, much to Lil' Fair's detriment. She even named the foal after herself despite her lack of interest in even having kids, let alone raising one.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: She realises how poor of a parent she was after Lil is freed from Little Jewel and Sole Maker is arrested. She makes no attempt to resist Starfleet arresting her.
  • Parental Neglect: Explicitly stated to be more interested in spas and shopping than in raising Lil' Fair.
  • Pink Is Feminine: Has a pink coat and is very vain.
  • Vanity Is Feminine: Her primary characteristic, to the point of neglecting her daughter.
