Team MRRN

     In General
  • Color-Coded Characters: Like every team in RWBY, each member of MRRN is represented by a different color.
    • Mathdon Kendrick: Brown
    • Robin Kendrick: Red
    • Ruo-Jian Bai Hu: White
    • Nasser Achdarr: Green
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Each member of MRRN has dealt with some form of trauma in their pasts.
    • Mathdon was verbally and emotionally abused by Donovan, leading to him becoming overweight to deal with the abuse. Upon entering Aurum Academy, Mathdon was bullied and ridiculed for his weight and Asperger's, especially by Hate Sink Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy, Jason Currant. This led to Math getting into a fight with him, which the Headmaster used to expel Math unjustly.
    • Robin's older brother, Dearg, lost his entire team on a mission while at Beacon and started down a self-destructive path, often drinking and bullying Robin. He even tried to sabotage his chances of getting into West Academy, though he claimed he did it because he didn't want him to die the way his team did. Eventually, Robin caught Dearg stealing his mother's jewelry and called the police on him, leading to his arrest and blaming and bullying Robin ever since, leading to Robin developing trust issues.
    • Ruo-Jian's father was killed during a home invasion, leading to his mother's arrest despite not being the murderer. After she escaped, she forced Ruo to join the White Fang and over the course of that time, mutilated his body through physical abuse. Eventually, his mother became extremely barbaric and bloodthirsty, forcing Ruo to kill her.
    • Nasser initially lived in Vacuo until his father was killed, prompting his mother to move to Vale. Upon going, his older brother, Cassim, stole their father's inheritance money and left the family in near poverty. Whenever Cassim called, he'd only want something and refuse to acknowledge his choices.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Team MRRN initially starts out as a mix of the straightforward and awkward Mathdon, the cocky and flirtatious Robin, the stoic Ruo-Jian and the rebellious Nasser. As the story progresses, they become the best of friends. In Volume 4, Nasser even starts considering Team MRRN like his brothers.
  • Four-Philosophy Ensemble:
    • Mathdon Kendrick (Optimist)
    • Robin Kendrick (Realist)
    • Ruo-Jian Bai Hu (Conflicted)
    • Nasser Achdarr (Pessimist)
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: For one reason or another, every member of MRRN has their moments of jerkiness, though are overall good and caring people.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: After witnessing the cruelty and terrorism of the Iron Knights, the death of Professor Alan Kura, the Fall of Beacon, and being lied to and used by Ozpin which nearly resulted in their deaths, each of them have come to see the dark realities of being a Huntsmen. They get better, but have become more cynical at times.

     Mathdon Kendrick
  • Abusive Parents: Mathdon was verbally and emotionally abused by Donovan in his youth.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Mathdon is often called Math for short by his friends and family.
  • Animal Motifs: In the first few Volumes, Mathdon's symbol is a brown bear.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Mathdon's been hated and harassed for his Asperger's. When people accept him, especially when they know of his Asperger's, he views them in a very favorable light. It's also one of the biggest reasons why Mathdon fell in love with Pyrrha Nikos.
  • Berserk Button: Do NOT call Math a retard. Do so enough times and he will hurt you badly.
    • He also despises those who possess a Never My Fault mindset and blame others for their misfortunes. Considering the harassment and abuse he went through with Donovan Katur and Jason Currant, it's easy to see why. It also extends to Nachtfel since he himself refuses to accept the blame for his atrocities, instead blaming everyone else.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Math is one of the friendliest, if awkward, people in the MRRN series, but if he’s provoked, he can have a very nasty temper and become very threatening.
  • Big Guy: Math is the physically biggest and strongest member of MRRN.
  • Black-and-White Morality: Downplayed. Mathdon has very strong moral beliefs that he will never compromise, but not to the point where he labels people as entirely good or entirely evil.
  • Broken Pedestal: At the start of the series, Math considered Ozpin a wise and just man who wasn't hindered by the prejudices of the world. After Volume 2, Math becomes suspicious of his headmaster, though doesn't outright distrust him. This suspicion grows into distrust and hatred when Math finds out that Ozpin tried forcing Pyrrha to become the Fall Maiden and how he had manipulated and used his teammates.
  • Bruiser with a Soft Center: Mathdon is a very strong fighter and the most bulky member of Team MRRN, but has a good heart and a strong moral compass.
  • Career-Ending Injury: Mathdon's arm was badly injured during the Fall of Beacon at Nachtfel's hands. Luckily, his Uncle Gormen is able to secure for him a brace that'll allow him to start fighting again, which ultimately averts this trope.
  • Character Development: Mathdon was initially insecure about his Asperger’s, tended to doubt himself as a leader and was very closed off about his condition. After opening up to Pyrrha and his teammates, he becomes more comfortable around others and much more confident as a leader.
    • The same goes for his view on his Asperger's. At first, Mathdon was very hesitant and scared to share his condition with anyone outside of Robin (justified considering his Dark and Troubled Past). Over the Volumes, Math becomes far less insecure about his Asperger's and has come to accept himself.
  • Color-Coded Eyes: Math has brown eyes, hinting at his down-to-earth and genuine nature.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Mathdon is shown to be pragmatic at times during combat, believing that it’s a leader’s job to look after his followers than win a fight fairly.
  • Commonality Connection: With Pyrrha. Both of them have a strong sense of justice and morality and are socially awkward at times. Both Math and Pyrrha were lonely, but for different reasons: Math because people thought he wasn't good enough and Pyrrha because she was viewed as too good for anyone. Both of them have an altruistic desire to help and protect people and are disgusted by immense egotism and arrogance.
    • The same could be said for Math and Qrow. Both were hated for things beyond their control (Math for his Asperger's, Qrow for his Misfortune Semblance) and were given purpose by people they greatly respect (Glaucus for Math, Ozpin for Qrow).
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: The first two times Mathdon fights Nachtfel, he is easily beaten. The first time is him nearly getting choked to death and unable to speak for a while. The second time ends up with him badly wounded and his arm left dysfunctional due to a severe injury.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Math has dark brown hair and brown eyes.
  • Cynic–Idealist Duo: Math and Nasser could qualify as this since they’re both teammates and partners. Math is the idealist while Nasser is the cynic.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Besides Ruo, Math has it the hardest as well. Verbally and emotionally abused by Donovan Katur, cruelly bullied and harassed for his weight and Asperger's, unjustly expelled from Aurum Academy for something that the Headmaster KNEW he didn't do...Math has had it rough in his life.
  • Determinator: Math almost never backs down from a fight unless he has no other option. He'll do whatever it takes to keep his friends and family safe and stop his enemies from killing innocent people.
  • Dork Knight: Math is a very kind and idealistic person who doesn't refrain from his moments of goofiness and acting silly. Even after the Fall of Beacon and becoming a Knight in Sour Armor, Math can still be goofy at times.
  • Fatal Flaw: His Black-and-White Morality. His mentors, Forest Kotka and Glaucus Viisaus, and his mother, Corcra Kendrick, instilled strong moral principles in Math growing up. This makes him ideal, strong-willed in his beliefs, and a strong sense of justice and honor, though this can often lead to conflict with characters who are okay with working in a morally gray area.
  • Flaming Sword: More like light. Math’s Semblance allows him to summon up to four Aura Swords that he can imbue into his sword, making his strikes more powerful.
  • Foil To every member of his team.
    • Robin Kendrick: While Robin is an extroverted person who tends who has a reputation among women for being a notorious flirt, Mathdon is more of an introvert and socially awkward towards people. Robin is a ranged fighter who's extremely nimble and fast yet cannot take heavy hits, Mathdon is a close ranged fighter who can take a big beating before going down, but is lacking in mobility and agility. Robin has a pleasant relationship with his father, but a poor relationship with his older brother while Math despises his father, but has a good relationship with his older sister. Robin's Semblance makes him more suited for scouting while Math's makes him a great fit for fighting. Math tends to think with Honor Before Reason while Robin has more of a Reason Before Honor mindset.
    • Ruo-Jian Bai Hu: Math's animal motifs are more associated with canines while Ruo is associated with felines. Mathdon's fighting style and Semblance makes him a great front line fighter while Ruo's make him skilled as a stealth attacker. Mathdon sometimes has trouble reining in his emotions while Ruo almost never lets his emotions get the better of him. Math hates his father and has a good relationship with his mother while Ruo had a terrible relationship with his mother after her descent into savagery and remembers his father with love.
    • Nasser Achdarr: Nasser's father died in Vacuo and he remembers him fondly while Math's father left him behind and Math hates him. Nasser has a hostile relationship with his brother, Cassim, while Math has a good relationship with his sister, Safirlas. Nasser is The Cynic while Math is The Idealist who later becomes the Knight in Sour Armor. Nasser's fighting style is based on offense while Math utilizes a balanced fighting technique.
    • Pyrrha Nikos: Pyrrha and Mathdon both struggled with having meaningful relationships, but for Pyrrha, it was because everyone viewed her as too good while Mathdon was viewed as not good enough. They both use sword and shield techniques, but Pyrrha is more of a Lightning Bruiser while Math is a Mighty Glacier. Both Math and Pyrrha lack a father in their lives, but Pyrrha's father died from cancer and she remembers him fondly while Math's father left them and he feels only contempt for him.
  • Good Is Not Soft: Math is a very friendly, caring and genuine person, but he is more than willing to use violence if push comes to shove. His skill in combat alone makes him someone that people do NOT want to piss off.
  • Handicapped Badass: Mathdon has Asperger's, which greatly affects his ability to be around people, making him come off as socially awkward. Luckily, Forest and Glaucus trained him to overcome it and become a powerful warrior. He's easily considered the strongest member of Team MRRN.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Mathdon's primary weapon is a sword named Claiomh Solais and his Semblance allows him to summon Aura Swords that he can imbue into his blade or allow him to control his sword telekinetically. After losing the weapon during the Fall of Beacon, Math forges a new sword of similar proportions named Cosantoir.
  • Honor Before Reason: Math has very strong moral convictions and rarely compromises them. In many situations, Math is more focused on doing the right thing rather than the reasonable thing.
  • Humble Hero: Math is neither arrogant nor egotistical and tends to be an overall pleasant person.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: After the mission up north where Alan Kura was killed, being lied to by Ozpin, learning that he tried to force the Fall Maiden powers on Pyrrha, and the Fall of Beacon, Math has definitely taken some levels in cynicism, though he still retains a strong sense of morality and understands what he fights for.
  • Knightly Sword and Shield: Mathdon’s weapons for melee combat are a sword and shield and is an overall idealistic person.
  • The Leader: Mathdon is the leader of Team MRRN. Though hesitant at first, he grows into the position as a capable and confident leader.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Though not related by blood, Math considers Forest as his father. Both of them are team leaders who are skilled swordsman with a strong sense of justice and morality. Both of them fell for redheads, Forest fell for Summer Rose and Math fell for Pyrrha. They both have Animal Motifs: Math's is a bear and Forest's is an eagle. Both of them initially trusted Ozpin, but due to experiences, their trust in him was shattered.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Math utilizes a sword and shield in combat.
  • Master Swordsman: Math is arguably one of the strongest and most skilled students in Beacon, able to go toe-to-toe with Pyrrha Nikos, and is a highly proficient swordsman.
  • Meaningful Name: Mathdon's name is a mix of the Irish words 'Math' and 'Don'. 'Math' in Irish is often associated with bears and 'Don' means brown. His name together means 'Brown Bear'. It also goes for his last name, Kendrick, which means 'Champion'.
    • The same also goes for his weapons. Claiomh Solais is a sword from Celtic mythology that translates to 'Sword of Light' and Dionach means 'Protector' in Scots Gaelic. His new sword, Cosantoir, is Irish for 'Defender, Protector'.
  • Mighty Glacier: Math can take quite a beating and is the physically strongest member of Team MRRN, but he isn’t very agile.
  • Nice Guy: Math is generally this. He is often a pleasant and approachable person who cares deeply for others, but he definitely has his moments of losing his temper and being outright hostile towards those he hates.
  • Older Than They Look: Math is 17 at the beginning of the series, yet he already has facial hair. After Volume 4, he now sports a full beard, which definitely makes him look older.
  • Personality Powers: Mathdon is a powerful swordsman and goes hand in hand with his Semblance, allowing him to create swords made from his Aura called Aura Swords. He can use his swords to retrieve his weapon after being disarmed, control it telekinetically and deal powerful blows to his enemies.
  • Power of Trust: Math highly values trust in others. If he feels that trust has been betrayed to a severe enough extent, it’s very hard for that person to gain that trust back. He could become distrusting and possibly outright hostile towards the person who betrayed him.
  • Rage Breaking Point: During Volume 3, Math gets fed up with Sun and Nasser's conflict and disdain for each other. When they fight in the MRRN dorm, Math blows up and tells them to get out, finally having enough of their fighting.
  • Real Men Eat Meat: Mathdon is shown to have a big appetite, but not as big as Ruo's. Almost every time he eats, he's shown to be eating meat.
  • Shotguns Are Just Better: Math’s firearm mode is a shotgun, which he uses to deadly effect.
  • Socially Awkward Hero: Due to his Asperger’s, Math sometimes struggles in social situations. Even after he becomes more comfortable in his own skin, he still retains his awkwardness at times.
  • Straight Man and Wise Guy: Mathdon and Robin play this dynamic. Mathdon is the straightforward, often serious straight man and Robin is the cocky, often joking wise guy.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: After getting into shape due to his training with Forest and Glaucus, Math could be described as this at 6’0 with dark brown hair and considered good-looking.

     Robin Kendrick

  • Big Brother Bully: After his older brother, Dearg, lost his entire team on a mission, he returned home and took out his anger on Robin. After calling the police on him, Dearg blamed Robin for his life going down the toilet and often harassed him when they met in person.
  • Brutal Honesty: Robin almost never sugarcoats his opinions or views on anything. Because of this, he can come across as very harsh and judgmental.
  • Byronic Hero: In some ways. Robin is very pragmatic, can be selfish and a jerk at times, has moments of cockiness and no qualms about killing his enemies, but overall is a good person who is very loyal to his friends.
  • Career-Ending Injury: During the Fall of Beacon, Robin’s eyes are cut out during his faceoff with Emerald. For months, he struggles with this. This is ultimately averted when he unlocks his new Semblance, Echolocation.
  • The Confidant: Mostly to Math in Volume 1. Robin helps Math in his struggles with his Asperger's and his feelings for Pyrrha. After Volume 1, Robin sometimes act as an unofficial confidant to others.
  • The Cynic: Robin has a tendency to become cynical when things go bad for himself or for people he cares for. Two of the biggest examples are his fall into depression and seclusion after he loses his eyes during the Fall of Beacon.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Robin definitely has his moments of snarky comments.
  • Eye Scream: During the Fall of Beacon, Robin fights Emerald in a one-on-one duel. This ends with Emerald cutting out Robin's eyes and rendering him blind.
  • Fatal Flaw: His tendency to become cynical and selfish when things go bad. Robin is usually a good-hearted person with a realistic view, but when things get very bad such as when he lost his eyes.
    • His harsh judgment towards other. When stating his opinion of someone, Robin may delve into this if he feels the person is a hypocrite, liar or wanting to be a hero. An example of this is when he called out Ruby for withholding the information of Mt. Glenn from everyone.
  • Fiery Redhead: Despite being mostly a friendly, if cocky, person, Robin can be quite quick to judge others.
  • Foil: To Mathdon Kendrick. While Robin is an extroverted person who tends who has a reputation among women for being a notorious flirt, Mathdon is more of an introvert and socially awkward towards people.
    • To Emerald Sustrai. Their hair and eye colors are inverted: Emerald has green hair and red eyes while Robin has red hair and green eyes. Both of them tend to be very snarky at times, even towards their own teammates, though while Emerald usually maintains a friendly facade to fool people, Robin is genuinely a friendly person. Emerald's Semblance is built around deceiving people's senses while Robin's Semblance allows him to see through Semblances specializing in deception and illusion. Both of them are quick and agile fighters, but Emerald is more of a close combatant while Robin specializes in ranged combat. Emerald is blindly loyal to Cinder and refuses to believe otherwise while Robin is quick to accept reality and is willing to call out and question his friends.
  • Fragile Speedster: Robin is extremely fast and agile, but lacks durability.
  • Friendly Sniper: Wields a bow, is the sharpshooter of MRRN and an overall friendly person.
  • The Gadfly: Robin enjoys screwing around with his teammates and teasing them. He mostly teases them for their feelings towards the women they care for.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Played with. Robin definitely has his moments of being a selfish jerk when betrayed or hurting. He can also be very judgmental and harsh when criticizing people, such as when he criticized Ruby for keeping information related to Mt. Glenn and scolds her for thinking herself the only one who can do the right thing. However, he never stops caring for those close to him and is often a very friendly person.
  • Lack of Empathy: Robin can be very harsh when judging others at times, making him appear to lack empathy towards them.
  • Long-Range Fighter: While Robin is no slouch in close combat, his true specialty lies in ranged combat, being an expert marksman and skilled bowman.
  • Personality Powers: Robin is often laid-back and humorous, but he also has a very sharp personality that picks up on small things, such as when he picked up on Ruby lying about Cinder in Volume 2. His Optic Enhancer Semblance makes him perfect for seeing things that others wouldn't.
  • Power of Trust: Averted. Robin has trust issues due to being bullied and harassed by his brother before the start of the MRRN series.
  • Reason Before Honor: Robin has a much more realistic mindset than Mathdon and has a more pragmatic approach to the group's problems.
  • Red Is Heroic: Robin’s signature color is red and is a good guy, even though he has his moments of selfishness and can be quite harsh and critical of people.
  • Significant Green-Eyed Redhead: Robin has red hair and green eyes and is one of the main characters of MRRN but he unfortunately loses his eyes during the Fall of Beacon when Emerald cuts them out.
  • Straight Man and Wise Guy: Robin plays the cocky and joking wise guy to two members of his team who are both straight men: Mathdon Kendrick and Ruo-Jian Bai Hu.
  • Super-Senses: Robin’s Semblance grants him various optical abilities, making him perfect as a scout. After losing his eyes, Robin unlocks a new Semblance called Echolocation, allowing him to 'see' through sound waves.
  • Trick Arrow: Robin utilizes various Dust arrows, including Fire, Ice, Lightning and Earth.

     Ruo-Jian Bai Hu
  • Absurdly Sharp Claws: Ruo’s weapon is Huzhao, a pair of gauntlets with claws on them. He can infuse his weapons with Dust for stronger attacks.
  • Abusive Parents: After Ruo's father was murdered and his mother made him join the White Fang, she became this to Ruo. Her descent into savagery and barbarism made her extremely abusive and cruel towards Ruo, leaving him with a scarred and maimed body.
  • Animal Motifs: The White Tiger. Ruo-Jian is both a White Tiger Faunus and sometimes his behavior mimics that of said animal.
  • Bare-Fisted Monk: Played with. Ruo has weapons, but they're utilized for hand-to-hand combat like Yang. His martial arts are on par with Yang Xiao Long and Mercury Black and was able to stand his ground against Adam Taurus during the Battle of Haven.
  • Big Eater: Ruo-Jian easily has the biggest appetite out of MRRN. He ate six pieces of pizza at lunch, remember?
  • Commonality Connection: With Yang. Both suffered from immense loneliness due to having lost loved ones as well as being hurt by them. Yang lost Summer Rose, who she considers her real mom, and suffered from Taiyang's emotional distancing from her and Ruby while Ruo lost his father to a robber and suffered from his mother's physical abuse and brutality.
  • Covered with Scars: Ruo’s whole torso is covered in burns, scars, and stab wounds. He is very hesitant to show it to people to the point that during Volume 3, when he hears someone entering the hot tub room he’s in, his first reaction is to turn invisible and hide.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Watching his father be murdered, his mother unjustly arrested for it, being forced into the White Fang and brutalized by his mother, having to kill her when she became too barbaric and bloodthirsty...Ruo easily has had the hardest backstory out of the MRRN members.
  • Dark Secret: In Volume 3, Ruo confesses to Robin and Yang that he killed his mother before the events of MRRN Volume 1.
  • Emotions vs. Stoicism: Part of Ruo's development is becoming more open with his emotions. He still remains stoic at times, though.
  • Fatal Flaw: Anger. Ruo is usually the most calm and collected member of MRRN, rarely giving into anger and almost always having a cool head. However, whenever the pain from his past comes into his life, Ruo becomes impulsive and driven by anger which was proven when he tried to murder Grant Denim.
  • Foil: To Adam Taurus. Both had female feline Faunuses for mentors (Jinse Mu Shi for Ruo, Sienna Khan for Adam). Both of them lost their parents to a form of Faunus discrimination (Adam's parents were shot and killed during a protest that turned violent, Ruo's father was murdered and his mother was wrongly arrested for it, leading her to becoming barbaric and bloodthirsty). Both have been scarred on their bodies (Adam has an SDC brand on his left eye while Ruo has lots of scars on his torso.) Both tend to be pretty stoic at times and mask their emotions, though Ruo learns to open up positively while Adam only lets out his negative emotions. Both had affiliations with the White Fang, though while Ruo hates them, Adam actively partakes in their violence. While Adam has no problem using violence to solve his problems and deal with his enemies, Ruo is the least likely member of MRRN to resort to violence unless necessary. Another factor is their relationships with Yang Xiao Long: Ruo is in a loving relationship with her and tenderly cares for her while Adam almost killed her, leaving her traumatized. While Sienna Khan endorsed Adam's killing and praised him as a hero, Jinse Mu Shi taught Ruo that killing wouldn't stop the cycle of hatred and insisted he try to look for nonviolent solutions.
    • He is also one to Yang Xiao Long. Yang wears her heart on her sleeve while Ruo is often stoic and doesn't show his emotions that much, though he does later learn to open up. Yang fights using fists and shotgun shells while Ruo fights with sharp claws and Dust. Yang's Semblance makes her good for a straight-on fight while Ruo's is best suited for throwing opponents offtrack and taking them by surprise. Yang has a short temper and can be quick to anger while Ruo is very calm and collected, rarely getting angry. While Yang gets Ruo to open up more with his emotions, Ruo helps keep Yang's temper under control.
    • To Mercury Black as well. Both of them are trained martial artists, but have very different upbringings and personalities. Both of them were abused by a parent (Mercury's dad and Ruo-Jian's mom) who maimed their bodies (Mercury's legs and Ruo-Jian's scarred torso). Mercury specializes in kick-style martial arts while Ruo prefers hand-based. Mercury is a remorseless sociopath who enjoys killing people and has no qualms about using violence while Ruo has a strong moral compass and is hesitant to use violence. Mercury has an enemy rivalry with Yang Xiao Long while Ruo is in a romantic relationship with her. While Mercury's pains drove him to become an assassin like his father before him, Ruo's pain took him away from the path his mother went down.
  • Humble Hero: Ruo-Jian almost never comes across as arrogant or full of himself.
  • Icy Blue Eyes: Ruo has blue eyes. Though he’s much more stoic than cold.
  • Invisibility with Drawbacks: Ruo’s Semblance allows him to turn invisible at the cost of draining Aura.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Ruo is a White Tiger Faunus and has Tiger ears.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: Ruo has long hair that reaches to his shoulders during Volumes 1 through 3. After the Fall of Beacon, it's grown longer. Yang once described him as being in great shape after bringing him back to Beacon when he was drunk.
  • Meaningful Name: Ruo-Jian is a Chinese name meaning 'Sharp as a Sword'; this is fitting considering his intelligence and calm, yet sharp personality. His last name 'Bai Hu' is also Chinese for 'White Tiger', considering he is a White Tiger Faunus.
  • Murder Is the Best Solution: Heavily averted. In Volume 3, Ruo learns that Grant Denim cannot be arrested for killing his father. Ruo takes his weapons and runs off to murder Grant in revenge; during the entire chapter, Ruo is deeply conflicted about whether killing Grant is worth it. He ultimately chooses not to go through with it, but his decision still causes damage in his relationships.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: After Gormen Kendrick informs Ruo-Jian that Grant Denim cannot be arrested for his father's murder, Ruo runs off to try and kill him. After returning to his friends and being given a thorough scolding, Weiss points out that Ruo could still go to prison since he gave his identity away.
  • Not So Stoic: Ruo usually presents himself as much, but as the series progresses, he becomes more open and shares in goofy moments with his friends.
  • Opposites Attract: The calm, collected and rather stoic Ruo-Jian ends up dating the bombastic, excitable, and outgoing Yang.
  • Panthera Awesome: Played with. As a Faunus, he is subjected to racial discrimination by humans, but he is a highly skilled martial artist, has a great Semblance for tricking his opponents, and ends up with a loving and beautiful girlfriend.
  • Personality Powers: Ruo's Semblance allows him to turn invisible, which serves as a double entendre. First, it reflects him being hesitant to reveal his past and injuries to others and being closed off at first, which he later grows out of. The second is that tigers can use their striped fur for camouflage, making them great ambush hunters; Ruo often uses his Semblance in combat to throw his opponents off by disappearing after an attack.
  • Rage Breaking Point: After learning that Grant Denim, his father’s killer, can’t be arrested, Ruo becomes very angry and punches a garbage can. He then goes off to murder him; even though he doesn’t go through with it, this decision bites him hard.
  • Real Men Eat Meat: Ruo has shown a love for pepperoni pizza and meat in general. This is fitting, considering he is a Big Eater.
  • Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl: Definitely with Ruo and Yang. Ruo is the calm, collected and stoic guy who often reins in Yang's bombastic attitude and short temper while she brings out his more emotional side.
  • Shirtless Scene: In Volume 3, but by no means is it played for fan service. Before he gets in the hot tub, he looks at his maimed torso, which immediately reminds him of his deceased mother's brutality and savagery.
  • Simple, yet Awesome: Ruo's weapons are plainly simple compared to his teammates: claw gauntlets with Dust. However, this does not to halt his abilities as a fighter and martial artist.
  • The Stoic: Ruo tended to show little emotion when first introduced. After spending time with Math, Robin, and Nasser, Ruo starts opening up more. He still has his moments of stoicism.
  • Tiger Versus Dragon: Averted and played with. Yang and Ruo are opposites in many ways, yet they connect on a very personal level that leads to a romantic relationship. Also, the roles of the original Tiger and Dragon are switched for the characters: Yang is the Dragon yet her personality reflects more of the Tiger while Ruo is the Tiger yet he reflects more of the Dragon.
  • Token Non-Human: Ruo-Jian is the only Faunus in Team MRRN.
  • Voice of Reason: Ruo is often the most calm and collected member of Team MRRN. He almost always approaches a situation with a level head and clear mind and is the least likely to use violence to solve his problems. The exception to this is when he is dealing with his Dark and Troubled Past, causing him to become easily angered and quick to violence.
  • Warrior Monk: Ruo is very calm and collected and is the best martial artist on Team MRRN. He wears mostly robes and light clothing, giving him the appearance of a traditional martial arts user.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: After Ruo learns that Grant Denim, his father’s killer, can’t be arrested, he runs off to murder him. Luckily, he refrains from exacting his revenge and returns to his friends. They all call him out on his rash and stupid decision, which temporarily strains his relationship with Yang.

     Nasser Achdarr
  • Ambiguously Brown: Nasser is described as having dark skin. This refers to his allusion, Ali Baba, who was from Middle Eastern folklore.
  • Anti-Hero: Nasser can be aloof, rude, aggressive, quick to temper and is the most likely to use violence when angered. Despite this, he is loyal, caring and protective of those he cares about and is mostly motivated to help his family out of poverty.
  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: Nasser thinks highly of his skills in combat. Initially, this was up to the point that he ignored criticism of any sort. Luckily, he gets better, even if he still is a bit arrogant at times.
  • At Least I Admit It: Nasser is aware that he's not always a pleasant person to be around and admits it.
  • Blood Knight: Nasser often enjoys a good fight and is not above using violence to deal with whatever angers him.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: Concerning his relationship with Sun Wukong. Nasser and Sun both call each other out for their flaws: Nasser hates Sun for his kleptomania and Sun hates Nasser for being a Jerkass. Both of them are valid in their points.
    • Sun's kleptomania and disregard for laws often landed him in trouble, especially when he was arrested by the Vale Special Unit for the Paladin Incident as well as stowing away on a ship. Sun garnered a reputation and immense disdain from some students for his kleptomania as well as several run-ins with the law, which eventually led Nasser to punching him into a tree.
    • Nasser easily has the most Jerkass moments out of the four main protagonists, which often causes issues in the group. Due to this, Nasser is often quick to seeing the worst in others and quick to not trust them. If pushed far enough, Nasser can become physically violent towards those he hates.
  • Book Dumb: Played with. Nasser is by no means a dumb person, though initially he didn't give much effort to his studies, only his martial pursuits. Even though he does give more effort to his studies, he had a very hard time reading menus, which he denies.
  • Brutal Honesty: Nasser isn't one to be shy with words. He'll often say what's on his mind, even if it's perceived as rude or insensitive.
  • Byronic Hero: Nasser is one of the main protagonists of the MRRN series and displays arrogance, pride, can be quick to temper and quick to use violence.
  • Character Development: At the beginning of the series, Nasser was an Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy, to the point where he would ignore criticism of any kind and would also disregard anything he felt wasn't essential to being a Huntsman. By the end of Volume 1, Nasser has toned down and become more pleasant, though he still remains arrogant and rude at times.
  • Color-Coded Eyes: Nasser has green eyes, the same color as his Aura. It could also be reflective of him wanting to earn money through being a Huntsman to get his family out of poverty.
  • The Cynic: Nasser tends to be the most cynical member of Team MRRN. Considering that his brother stole the family’s inheritance money and left them in near poverty, it’s easy to see why.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Nasser can be prone to snarky and sarcastic comments.
  • Dual Wielding: Nasser’s weapon of choice is a pair of chained knives/sub machine guns called Shafarnasr.
  • Emotional Bruiser: Nasser is a very emotional person and a heavy hitter.
  • Fatal Flaw: Pride. At the start of the series, Nasser prided himself on his martial skills and ignored any criticism that was directed his way. As Ozpin warned him, this mindset would eventually get him kicked out of Beacon if he didn't shape up. Luckily, he does shape up, though he still struggles with arrogance and pride at times.
    • Being an Emotional Bruiser, Nasser is the most emotional member of Team MRRN and often has trouble keeping them under control, especially his anger. This can lead him to be very impulsive and quick to anger.
  • Foil: To Mathdon. Nasser's father died in Vacuo and he remembers him fondly while Math's father left him behind and Math hates him.
  • Green and Mean: Played with. Nasser's Aura color is green, but he isn't a villain, even if he isn't always the nicest person to be around.
  • Good Is Not Nice: Nasser is a good man at heart, but he has the most Jerkass moments out of Team MRRN. He is also the most prone to violence and quick to distrust others.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Nasser is shown to have a short temper when provoked. The most constant reason for it being set off is being angered at Sun’s kleptomania.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: Underneath Nasser's jerk-like and arrogant exterior is a man who genuinely cares for others and is deeply loyal to those he trusts. Despite being somewhat of a Token Evil Teammate, he has a strong sense of morals and genuinely wants to protect others.
  • Hot-Blooded: Nasser has a 'shoot first, ask questions later' mindset. Out of the members of MRRN, he is often the first to respond with anger towards their issues and may sometimes let his temper get the better of him.
  • Human Cannonball: Nasser’s Semblance allows him to redirect kinetic energy as a means of offense. He usually uses it to launch himself like a cannonball.
  • Jack of All Stats: Nasser's Semblance allows him to move quickly and deal heavy blows, making him ideal for many situations in combat.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Several times.
    • Nasser is openly hostile and rude towards Sun Wukong, though it is not completely unwarranted. Sun's had constant run-ins with the law, has little concept of privacy or personal space and has kleptomaniac tendencies, which has made him a nuisance to many of the students in Beacon. On top of that, Sun often seems to underestimate the consequences of his behavior. This is played with in a sense that Sun points out that Nasser never gave him a chance and was prone to seeing the worst in people.
    • In Volume 3, Cassim returns home, much to Nasser's ire. Nasser is unwilling to trust his brother due to his past behavior, despite the claims from his brother that he's changed and his mother's insistence on giving him a chance. Nasser's ultimately proven right when Cassim tries to sell out his family for money and even blackmails him by threatening to turn Ruo over to the police for attempted murder.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Nasser can be rude, aggressive and short tempered, but he is very loyal and supportive to those he cares about. Nasser often puts up a tough guy persona as he doesn’t like being open with his true feelings sometimes.
  • Jerkass Realization: After hearing of the trauma Math and Ruo endured in Volume 1, Nasser openly admits that how much of an unnecessary jerk he's been due to him only focusing on his own hardships and that he feels sorry for them. He still remains a Jerk with a Heart of Gold, but he's definitely become more friendly towards his allies and willing to admit his mistakes.
  • Jerkass to One: Played with. Nasser can be pretty much a jerk to anyone, but he is openly hostile and mean towards Sun Wukong for his kleptomaniac tendencies. After Sun steals from him one too many times, Nasser punches him into a tree and proceeds to insult him.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Mostly thanks to his Semblance. Nasser can launch himself and move fast because of his ability to redirect kinetic energy as well as deal out heavy blows.
  • Meaningful Name: Nasser is an Arabic name meaning 'victorious' and his last name, Achdarr, is Arabic for 'green'.
  • Only in It for the Money: Played with. Nasser’s main motivation is earn money through being a Huntsman, but it’s not for selfish reasons. It’s to get his mother and sister out of poverty.
  • Personality Powers: Nasser's way of fighting revolves around 'hit it until it dies'. His Semblance allows him to redirect kinetic energy and use it for attacks, often in the forming of launching himself like a rocket, dealing major damage to his enemies.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Being the Anti-Hero and The Cynic, Nasser is the most foul mouthed member of Team MRRN.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Played with. Nasser is by no means an evil person, but he is often the first to respond with violence, is often rude and prickly, and prone to seeing the worst in others.

Friends of MRRN

     Pyrrha Nikos
  • The Ace: Pyrrha Nikos is the four-time champion of the Mistral Regional Tournament and considered one of Beacon’s best students.
  • Adaptational Personality Change: Pyrrha considers going into the Aura machine and becoming the Fall Maiden. However, she decides against it because she cannot bring herself to sacrifice her love for Mathdon. Ozpin attempts to force her into the machine, but fails, later leading Pyrrha to distrust Ozpin.
  • Animal Motifs: After Pyrrha recovers from her injuries at Beacon, she includes a phoenix in her new weapons and circlet. It symbolizes her rising from the ashes of her injuries as a phoenix would do in mythology.
  • Humble Hero: Pyrrha Nikos isn’t arrogant, egotistical, or haughty. She is very kind, down-to-earth and caring.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: Pyrrha Nikos is undoubtedly one of the most idealistic characters in MRRN. However, after Ozpin tries to force her to take the Fall Maiden powers, she becomes very distrustful towards him and has become a bit more cynical. She still retains her ideals and faith in what she believes in.
  • Sex for Solace: In Volume 3, Pyrrha asks Math to have sex with her when they're both of age. In Volume 4, Pyrrha realizes that she was only seeking Sex for Solace due to her emotional conflict with becoming the Fall Maiden. It's ultimately averted since Pyrrha and Math don't have sex.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Pyrrha is disgusted by the arrogance and egotism of Gaspar Dorado, Jason Currant and Cardin Winchester. She falls in love with Mathdon due to his kindness, genuine nature, and caring of others. In Volume 4, she tells Math that she wants to marry him and share her life with him.
  • Silk Hiding Steel: Pyrrha is a very kind, caring and motherly person who looks out for others. She is also the strongest student among Beacon's first-years.

     Coco Adel

     Yang Xiao Long

     Octavia Ember
     Alan Kura
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: After Alan is captured, Valkoin wraps a wire around his heart that’ll set off a bomb if cut. When the wire starts wrapping tighter around his heart, it’s clear that Alan is suffering badly. It’s averted when Forest kills him out of mercy.
  • Fiery Redhead: Averted. Alan Kura is a redhead, but he's very calm, rational and down-to-earth. It's a shame he doesn't live past Volume 2.
  • Only Sane Man: Alan Kura could be viewed as this, considering his practical approaches to the group's problems in contrast to Ozpin's subtle and secret plans and Ironwood's militaristic ideas.
  • Sacrificial Lion: Alan’s death serves to show how dangerous the Iron Knights and Valkoin truly are. It also indicates how dark the series can get.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Alan Kura was only around for two volumes before Valkoin kills him.

     Gaspar Dorado
  • Gold-Colored Superiority: This counts since Gaspar's signature color is gold and he initially behaved as if he was above everyone due to his family name. This is also played with Gaspar becomes a better person, thus playing it straight as he becomes superior to his old self.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Inverted later after his Heel–Face Turn. Gaspar has blond hair and becomes a much nicer and pleasant person who's openly remorseful of his past choices.
  • Hate Sink: At the beginning of the MRRN series, Gaspar was completely unlikeable. Luckily, he pulled a Heel–Face Turn and became a much better person, expressing disgust with his former behavior.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After being suspended from Beacon for going too far, Gaspar returns with a much different attitude. Everyone is weary of him at first (partially justified considering his previous Hate Sink personality), but he eventually proves that he has become a much better person and is genuinely regretful of his past behavior.
  • I Hate Past Me: After his Heel–Face Turn, Gaspar is very vocal about hating how he used to be in the past.
  • Royal Rapier: Gaspar hails from the Dorado family, a wealthy family in Vale and owners of the Dorado Mining Company, and his choice of weapon is a rapier named Conquistador.
  • Sour Outside, Sad Inside: At the beginning of the series, Gaspar serves as a Hate Sink jerk with almost no redeeming qualities. After he returns from suspension, he reveals that more often than not, his father was more occupied with work than he was with his own family and his mother was no better, especially with having affairs with other men. In other words, he was a young man who needed someone to show him affection, which he did from a servant at the Dorado household.

     Forest Kotka
  • Animal Motifs: Eagles. Forest’s last name, Kotka, is Finnish for ‘Eagle’. His gauntlet shield also appears like an eagle’s wings and his Semblance allows him to transform into a Vacuo Golden Eagle.
  • Broken Pedestal: It can be implied that Forest respected Ozpin in his youth as a student. However, after working with him for years, Forest lost faith in Ozpin, denounced him as a liar, hypocrite and manipulator, and left him to fight on his own terms.
  • Expy: Of Aragorn from The Lord of the Rings. His main color is green, often associated with Rangers, including wearing a cloak. His primary weapon is a sword, similar to Aragorn who was a master swordsman. Forest Kotka's eagle motif also refers to when Aragorn went by the name Thorongil, which means 'The Eagle of the Star'.
  • Foil: To Qrow Branwen. Both are Lightning Bruiser fighters, though Qrow is famous for using a scythe while Forest is known for using a sword and shield. While Qrow remained loyal to Ozpin, despite everything, Forest left Ozpin and outright thinks of him as a hypocrite and liar. Qrow usually acts a cool uncle to Yang and Ruby while Forest acts as a surrogate father to Mathdon. Qrow is usually rude, cynical, and has no problem starting fights while Forest is more polite, approachable while often responding to fights rather than starting them. Their bird forms and colors also reflect their roles of opposites to each other: Qrow turns into a black crow with red eyes and is mostly associated with black and red while Forest can turn into a Vacuo Golden Eagle and is associated with green.
  • Good Is Not Soft: Forest is a very moralistic and strong-willed fighter, but he is not above killing his opponents and telling MRRN that they'd probably have to do the same against the Iron Knights. Justified in the sense that the Iron Knights are dangerous fighters, forcing many of their opponents into a 'kill or be killed' situation.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Forest has dirty blonde hair and is overall an ideal Huntsman with a strong sense of justice and morality. He detests the idea of allies being used as mere pawns, which is why he left Ozpin's group and holds him in great disdain.
  • It's All My Fault: Forest blames himself not finding Math sooner as he felt he could've done something to stop Donovan. He also somewhat blames himself for Trenton's death, though he also holds Ozpin accountable due to withholding important information.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Forest is both a strong and fast combatant, able to move quickly around the battlefield and deal big damage to his enemies.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: Forest is a strong idealist and is firm in his beliefs, but his experiences with Ozpin, losing his beloved, Summer Rose, and Trenton’s death have made him somewhat cynical at times.
  • Master Swordsman: Forest is arguably the most skilled swordsman in the MRRN series, especially since he was Mathdon’s mentor.
  • Papa Wolf: Forest is very protective of Mathdon and his friends from Ozpin’s influence. If they’re messed with in any way, Forest is definitely going to be pissed.
  • Personality Powers: Forest's Semblance allows him to turn into a Vacuo Golden Eagle, fitting into his character of being a watchful guardian of Remnant. He also has an ability to use Aura to heal injuries, which subtly refers to his desire of helping others when they need help.
  • Team Dad: Forest often looks after the young adults when he’s around, often acting as a father figure.

     Sterling Silver

     Ruadh Davis

     Glaucus Viisaus
  • Expy: Of Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings. Gray color scheme? Check. Uses a staff and sword? Yes. Has a beard and is of older age? Yes. Utilizes dust similar to magic? Yes.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Glaucus can have a rather nasty temper at times, often directed at others for incompetence or omitting important information.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Glaucus can be short-tempered and harshly critical of others sometimes, but he's often a very wise, caring and supportive Huntsman, especially towards his student, Mathdon.
  • Only Sane Man: Glaucus could be viewed as such since he's the most adamant about telling others the whole truth about Salem and the war instead of giving only tidbits of information. This is most exemplified when he calls out the group for keeping Mathdon and Pyrrha in the dark in Volume 3.

     Safirlas Kendrick
  • Combat Clairvoyance: Safirlas's Semblance. It allows her to easily predict enemy movements and attacks, giving her a huge advantage over her opponents.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Safirlas can be rather rude and judgmental at times, but genuinely cares for others, especially her family.
  • Sole Survivor: During the Fall of Beacon, Safirlas and her team go up against Nachtfel. He easily kills all three of her teammates and she's left the sole survivor. She falls into depression following this tragic event.
  • True Blue Femininity: Safirlas is quite a feminine woman and her signature color is blue.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: After the deaths of her teammates, Saf falls into depression and lashes out at her family, even blaming Math for their deaths. Corcra calls her out on this and eventually forces her to go to counseling.

     Jinse Mu Shi

     Corcra Kendrick
  • Mama Bear: Corcra is very protective of her children. Whenever Donovan lost his temper with them, Corcra would step in and reprimand him for behaving so selfishly.

Antagonists

     Nachtfel
  • A Father to His Men: Despite his violence and hateful nature, Nachtfel is viewed as such by his followers. He often gives them the chance to take revenge on those who have wronged them, such as allowing a woman to kill her abusive Huntsman husband and letting his Knights burn an SDC associate to death.
  • Anti-Villain: Nachtfel is ruthless, hypocritical and responsible for endangering millions of lives. However, he’s shown to genuinely care about the lives of his Iron Knights and refused to consider them expendable.
  • Ashes to Ashes: Nachtfel’s Semblance allows him to turn into burning ashes. He can use this ability in combat or to escape tight spaces.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Nachtfel uses both his sword and scabbard in combat, using the latter as a shield of sorts.
  • Dark Is Evil: Nachtfel wears black armor and a robe and he is one of the main antagonists of the MRRN series.
  • Fatal Flaw: Several.
    • Hatred. Nachtfel’s whole goal and crusade is motivated by his hatred for those he deems evil and apathetic to the lives they destroy. His hatred blinds him to how he endangers lives just as much and makes him refuse to take responsibility for his choices.
    • His Black-and-White Insanity. Nachtfel has an intractable moral system of which he and his allies are righteous and his enemies are evil and corrupt. He refuses to take any other view that is different from his own.
    • His Never My Fault mindset. Nachtfel never holds himself responsible for his atrocities, instead blaming others for being against them. Plenty of people call him out on this, but he won't admit that anything is his fault. He'll always blame everyone but himself.
  • Hate Sink: Some readers may view him as such a character. His constant hypocrisy, his Never My Fault mindset, his slaughtering of those he claims to protect, and his terrorism can definitely make him such.
  • Hero Killer: Almost every time Nachtfel appears against the heroes, at least one person is badly injured or killed.
  • Hypocrite: All over the place. Because he is blinded by his hatred, which is his Fatal Flaw, Nachtfel fails to see how hypocritical he can be.
    • Nachtfel blames the Huntsmen for the corruption in the world and accuses them of being monsters apathetic to those they hurt, but refuses to acknowledge the damage he and his Knights cause.
    • While he condemns the Huntsmen for killing innocent people, he has no qualms about endangering innocents himself to achieve his goal.
    • In Volume 3, he accuses Adam Taurus of being unpredictable and volatile, yet he himself is prone to choosing options that make matters worse, either for his men or for himself.
  • Hypocrisy Nod: Due to having conversations with the ghost of his deceased father, Nachtfel is faced multiple times with how he's become no better than the monsters he hates. He seems to know that his father is right, but doesn't want to admit it.
  • Master Swordsman: Nachtfel is extremely dangerous with his nodachi, even without his Semblance.
  • Never My Fault: Nachtfel adamantly refuses to acknowledge the damage he causes to the world or the lives he and his Knights destroy. Whenever confronted with the killing he and the Iron Knights commit, he blames his victims for choosing to support the Huntsmen and their allies.
  • Sadist: Judging by how he kills his prisoners, including two Huntsmen and an SDC associate, Nachtfel definitely has a sadistic streak.
  • Tautological Templar: Nachtfel is entirely convinced that everything he does is justified since he's fighting for a better world free from corruption and injustice. No matter what he's told or what happens, he believes that all of his atrocities that he and his Iron Knights commit are for the good of the world.
  • The Friend No One Likes: While Nachtfel and Salem's Circle aren't by any means friends, most of the circle finds him intolerable due to his self-righteous hypocrisy and constant preaching. Even Arthur Watts finds him intolerable.
  • Villain Has a Point: Despite Nachtfel's hypocrisy, he is not without merits. For 65 years, Huntsmen were above the law and not held accountable for their actions. Their crime rates grew so high that the Kingdoms created Special Units with the authority to arrest them should they step out of line. Unfortunately, this may not have done much to stop corrupt Huntsmen from exploiting the innocent. The fact that Nachtfel has many followers is an indication to how many Huntsmen still abuse their authority.
  • You Are What You Hate: Nachtfel has become so blinded by his hatred and delusional in his beliefs that he doesn't realize that he's become the very thing he accuses his enemies of being: monsters blind to the damage they cause and the lives they destroy.

     Valkoin Viisaus
  • Fallen Hero: Valkoin was originally a member of Ozpin's group who aided in fighting Salem alongside his brother, Glaucus.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Valkoin often speaks in a polite tone, even towards his enemies. However, he immediately drops this attitude around Ozpin as he blames him for the deaths of his parents.
  • Light Is Not Good: Valkoin's signature color is white and he is a villain consumed by his anger towards Ozpin.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Valkoin is rather arrogant and smug, but he knows better than to reveal his plans to the enemy. He states that he will not jeopardize his plans just so he can massage his ego. He also states that while Salem is possibly worse than Ozpin, he claims that it's not about who's better in terms of morality, it's about who'll win. He's also aware that he's nothing more than a pawn to both Ozpin and Salem.
  • Razor Floss: Valkoin's weapon of choice is wires that he can use for multiple purposes, mostly as traps, restraints and creating weapons. This makes him an unpredictable and powerful opponent against even the most experienced of Huntsmen.
  • Sadist: Valkoin definitely has a sadistic side to his personality. one example is when he has Alan Kura tortured by the Iron Knights in Volume 2 and then ties a wire to his heart that will slowly kill him.

     Donovan Katur
  • Abusive Parents: Donovan was verbally and emotionally abusive to Mathdon, Safirlas and Corcra. He often treated Math poorly for his disability, often lied and manipulated his children, and showed no qualms with shouting at his wife.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Along with his abusive parenting, Donovan has a very short temper and often showed no means of controlling it.
  • Hate Sink: Oh, boy. Donovan is easily one of the most hated characters in the MRRN series. His abusive behavior, lack of shame, refusal to accept responsibility for his actions and insults towards his family definitely makes him Hate Sink material.
  • Never My Fault: Donovan blames his family for things not going well in his life and claims they were ungrateful to him, completely ignoring that it was his abusive parenting and refusing to admit his choices that led to their family being fractured in the first place. No matter what anyone says, he will never admit that he was wrong to mistreat his family.

     Jason Currant
  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: Jason Currant is very arrogant in his fighting abilities and believes himself superior to Mathdon.
  • Evil Redhead: Jason's surname, Currant, is a shade of red, so it's implied that he is a redhead and he's villainous to boot.
  • Hate Sink: Jason is undoubtedly worse than Gaspar. Though Gaspar was a Hate Sink jerk at the start of the series, he had a Heel–Face Turn and became a better person.
  • It's All About Me: Jason is very vain, selfish and egotistical, viewing himself as above everyone else.
  • Jerkass: Jason is a very unpleasant person with no redeeming qualities.
  • The Sociopath: Uncaring, lack of empathy, dishonest, remorseless, narcissistic, and aggressive, Jason could definitely fill the bill as a sociopath.

     Cassim Achdarr
  • Greed: Cassim's defining trait. His greed led him to steal the inheritance money from his family and use it for himself. Later on, Cassim then tries to get his family kicked out of their home so he can have money again. He's killed because the Iron Knights blow up the place where he was trying to gain money.
  • Hate Sink: Cassim is one of the most despicable characters in the series. His greed, selfishness and lack of care for his family makes him very unlikeable.
  • The Sociopath: Cassim definitely has the makings of one. Lack of remorse, never taking responsibility for his actions, and showing no care for his family definitely makes him come across as one.
