Now then, let's "Rock!"
A band of three sisters and exchange students from the eastern country of Yamato, they combine the traditional dances and aesthetics of their culture with western rock music for a sound uniquely theirs.
    In General
  • Absurdly Divided School: They are Rouge rank.
  • Adaptational Backstory Change: The series of events leading to their rebranding from BLOSSOMS to their current act is different between Our Prelude manga and the anime.
    • The former: They are prompted to change their style after witnessing IV Klore's debut and Eliza mentioning how they're using their demi-human natures as their unique appeal and the sisters should do the same. Nadeshiko gets the idea to fuse Western Rock and Traditional Japanese Music after Tsubaki experiments with red bean paste and pancakes.
    • The latter: They journey all the way back to their home country Yamato for an unspecified amount of time and the exact events of their soul-searching are never shown. Kaede was also much more resistant to the idea in the anime due to wanting to stick with their more familiar routines and acts.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Tsubaki and Nadeshiko are extremely eccentric but highly skilled performers and witches. Kaede has her own quirks but it's not nearly as obvious and potentially disruptive as her sisters' are. In detail:
    • Tsubaki constantly sexually harasses her younger sisters due to being a massive siscon. She also has perfect command of the stage during an Opera and is the most skilled performer of the three.
    • Nadeshiko is a Cloudcuckoo Lander obsessed with Rock and Roll to sometimes unhealthy degrees, blindly copying and attempting dangerous stunts like fire breathing, rappelling down from the stage on a rope, and parroting potentially offensive catchphrases like "Go to hell!" from all her favorite rock bands. Regardless, she is the leader of their group and is a skilled performer in song, dance, and electric guitar.
  • Floral Theme Naming: They are all named after a flower or plant and wear it as an accessory for their stage outfits; in English, Nadeshiko wears fringed pinks, Tsubaki red camellias, and Kaede maple tree leaves.
  • Flower Motifs: Cherry blossoms on their stage outfits, as befitting one of the most well-known flowers of their home country Yamato. Each of them also wear their namesake flower or leaf as an accessory for their stage outfits.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Kaede sees herself as the responsible sibling to her "foolish" older sisters, on account of being frequently embarrassed by their eccentricities.
  • Foreign Exchange Student: All of them hail from Yamato, where they were formerly known as the unit BLOSSOMS and constantly packing concert halls full.
  • Gratuitous English: Appropriately enough for a group who're an Eastern/Western Rock Fusion, their songs feature English words like "からくれ*ナイトフィーバー" ("Crimson*Night Fever").
  • Hell-Bent for Leather: Their former stage outfits as BLOSSOMS had black leather jackets over western clothing. While it set them apart in Yamato, it made them much more forgettable in Waleland, the birthplace of the fashion style.
  • Magical Gesture: Though they do whistle to use the "Echo Gift" like the rest of the largely Western/European cast, they also kiss prayer slips to summon weapons or enlarge and animate magical tools like paper puppets. This technique seems unique to Yamato witches.
  • Meaningful Rename: Back in Yamato, they were known as BLOSSOMS. After their rock act was substantially less-popular in Waleland and Flora Girls' Academy, they rebranded and changed up their sound into the J-Rock/traditional ballad fusion they have today.
  • Onmyōdō: Their unique spellcasting from Yamato takes much inspiration from this. Some examples include Tsubaki storing her bow and arrows in a prayer slip for convenience and traveling, Kaede carrying paper puppets which she can animate and enlarge for spells, and also Kaede's skill and obsession with divination and fortune-telling, one of the key duties of the onmyōji.
  • Ojou: Aside from being born from a noble family in Yamato, their general aesthetic and unique selling point is combining traditional Japanese performing arts like fan dances with rock-and-roll music.
  • Shared Family Quirks: Tsubaki and Kaede both share an unhealthy obsession with people that fit their specific fetishes. Tsubaki is much more extreme with her incestuous feelings towards her younger sisters but Kaede is still terribly obsessed with Salsa and other fluffy things. On a related note, Tsubaki is out and proud about it while Kaede tries to deny it.
  • Sibling Team: They are siblings who perform music and fight monsters together.

    Nadeshiko

I absolutely adore guitar and rock! Rock-and-Roll!

Voiced by: Rina Honnizumi

Country of Origin: Yamato
Age: 15
School Club: Light Music
The Leader of the unit and the middle sister. She is a natural Ojou from Yamato but has a love for all things "Rock 'n' Roll".
  • Catchphrase: "Rock 'n' Ro'!", "That's (so) Rock!", and "This Rocks!" In the game continuity, she has "Go to hell!" as a greeting and farewell on-stage.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: She's fond of doing some very strange antics on-stage, like rappelling down from the ceiling on a rope, performing in full-face paint ala KISS, or (attempting) a fire-breathing act. This is mostly from her blindly trying to imitate rock-and-roll bands and culture. She also seems ignorant of how offensive it is to tell an English-speaking audience "Go to hell!" during performances, however playfully.
  • Everyone Has Standards: She is a Cloud Cuckoo Lander who loves anything rock related, but she doesn't approve of her older sister, Tsubaki, being a major siscon to her and Kaede.
  • Foreign Culture Fetish: Western cultures, their rock-and-roll music and Yankii culture especially.
  • Hot-Blooded: On stage with her guitar, the quiet and reserved lady goes turns into a fiery rocker.
  • Mood-Swinger: She acts as the image of a proper noble lady from Yamato but on-stage transforms into a stereotypical "Yankii" with the hot-blooded passion, the crude language, and rock-and-roll music.

    Tsubaki
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tsubaki_8.png
Fufu. For my little sisters to have the chance to see this, I'm glad that Yamato is an open country.

Voiced by: Arisa Suzuki

Country of Origin: Yamato
Age: 17
School Club: Archery
The eldest of the sisters. In contrast to her "mature" appearance and outward persona, she's actually quite crude, perverted, and fond of teasing others for her entertainment, her little sisters especially.
  • Brother–Sister Incest: Or rather, Sister-Sister Incest. She is a massive siscon and frequently sexually harasses her younger sisters by stealing their underwear, using them as handkerchiefs to wipe her tears, and playing keep away for her amusement. It's entirely one-sided and Kaede and Nadeshiko show no shortage of exasperation towards her antics or anything that reminds them of it, like the "Little Sister Service" of the Cabaret Club.
  • The Gadfly: She takes special enjoyment in teasing and messing with her younger sisters.
  • Hypocritical Humor: When Champe offers her a Lap Pillow, Tsubaki says that she simply can't let anyone other than her blood-related younger sisters to provide her such a comfort. Then, she swoons, "faints", and falls right into Champe's arms, making a suspect noise and face shortly after.
  • Insistent Terminology: It's not "stalking", it's taking "surprise photos!" of her younger sisters.
  • The Lad-ette: What she actually is, beneath the mature, responsible persona.
  • Lovable Sex Maniac: As mentioned above, she has a very... questionable form of love towards her younger siblings, which mostly manifests in frequent sexual harassment. She also has a very suspect reaction to getting hugged by Champe, a hostess specializing in "Little Sister Service".
  • Onee-sama: She is both the eldest of the trio and likes to project a responsible and caring aura to the public but as her younger siblings know, she's got a fetish for younger women (especially her younger siblings and other "little sister" types), she uses foul language, and generally does as she pleases.
  • Paper Talisman: She uses these to store her bow for combat, the arrows being magical. It is activated by kissing it to infuse it with magic and they can shift back and forth between forms as needed.
  • Victoria's Secret Compartment: In Episode 4, she pulls out one of Nadeshiko's (stolen) bras from her cleavage.

    Kaede
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kaede_8.png
... No. It's not true that I prefer older people.

Voiced by: Yuuko Oono

Country of Origin: Yamato
Age: 13
School Club: Divination
The youngest of the three sisters but the strongest and most grounded of them. She frequently finds herself exasperated and unwittingly playing the Straight Man to her older sister's antics. She is roommates and good friends with Salsa, who is from a different unit.
  • Asian Fox Spirit: She is incredibly fond of them. As she is currently studying in Waleland, she makes do with petting and hugging her roommate Salsa, who is a werewolf.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other:
    • Despite being frequently annoyed by her sisters' antics, Kaede is still shown to love them regardless. To wit, after discovering that Nadeshiko went missing whilst going into the forest to find a shiny stone for her, Kaede is consumed with enough worry to immediately go in there after her.
    • In Episode 11, after Nadeshiko claims they'll use the Power of Rock to succeed as usual, Kaede calls her a weirdo then hugs her and says that it wouldn't feel right if Nadeshiko were normal. Nadeshiko's response is mixed but the three sisters soon hug it out.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: She's the youngest and most inexperienced member. As her older sisters are a little too eccentric for her tastes, she's constantly looking for a more responsible, mature older person in her life. Alongside her roommate Salsa, she is also the youngest of the named cast at 13.
  • Cuddle Bug: She frequently hugs her older sisters and her roommate Salsa. She's also very fond of soft, fuzzy, furry things like fox spirits and werewolves like Salsa.
  • Fortune Teller: She's a member of the school's Divination club and prefers methods involving fox spirits.
  • Monster Roommate: Salsa is this to her. They get along fantastically well despite their many differences, probably because of Kaede's love of fluffy things, Salsa being a fuzzy werewolf and a Nice Girl all around.
  • Not So Above It All: Kaede tries to portray herself as more mature, controlled, and just generally less eccentric than her older sisters but as one 4-panel comic showed, she also loses control when she sees something soft, furry, and fluffy, like Salsa.
  • Odd Friendship: With Salsa, her roommate from a different group. Salsa is a rambunctious, athletic tomboy compared to Kaede but they're still good friends.
  • Paper Master: Divination aside, her primary form of magic is animating shikigami, usually in the form of human-shaped paper puppets. She can animate them, enlarge them, and even ride on them—though it's implied that they're very delicate and require constant focus.
  • Straight Man: She is this to her older sisters, much to her chagrin.
  • Third-Person Person: To emphasize how young she is compared to her sisters, Kaede refers to herself in the third-person, as young Japanese children often do.

Sugar Pockets

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sugar_pockets_logo.png
We'll pocket everyone's hearts!
A trio focusing on playful and sugary pop music.

    In General
  • Absurdly Divided School: They are Lapis rank. In Episode 5, they've graduated to Rouge.
  • Gratuitous English: They use these for some of their songs like わがままキャラメリゼ ("Selfishly Caramelized"). It's used much more in シャノワール ("Chat Noir" or "Black Cat" in English).
  • Gratuitous French: Used in Chat Noir, both a reference to a famous cabaret and the fickle object of the singer's affections.
  • Modesty Shorts: Champe and Maryberry are visibly wearing them in their idol outfits. Ratura also wears them but her longer dress usually hides it.
  • Odd Friendship: Champe is an extroverted nature lover who regularly interacts with people in very intimate ways as a hostess in the Cabaret Club. Maryberry is an introverted recovering shut-in who prefers working with magical items as she struggles to even speak her thoughts out loud, let alone regular social interaction. Despite this, they are best friends and roommates, care deeply for each other, and are willing to throw themselves in the line of danger if need be.
  • Pseudo-Romantic Friendship: Champe and Maryberry are very intimate friends, sharing the same bed most nights, Champe going well out of her way to try to bring Maryberry out of her shell, and even going into a Haunted House without hesitation to try to save her.
  • Secret-Keeper: Maryberry and Champe keep quiet about Ratura's otaku-related hobbies like collecting magical girl merchandise, being in the Manga Research Club, and writing and drawing her own.

    Ratura

Now, witness the true power of a Celebrity Gal!

Voiced by: Youkimi Hayase

Country of Origin: Firenza
Age: 15
School Club: Manga Research
The leader of the unit. She is a celebrity Gal born from a wealthy family of Fashion Moguls, but due to her parents' insistence on training, she has to work several part-time jobs to fund her lifestyle. She is also secretly a magical girl otaku and a budding manga artist.
  • The Face: She is both the leader of Sugar Pockets and their most iconic member, due to her overflowing confidence and natural charisma.
  • Fangirl: Of Ray. Lynette and her bond and become close friends because of this shared passion. She also freaks out when she discovers Angelica is Ange and begs to shake her hand and for autographs for her whole unit.
  • The Fashionista: Unsurprisingly for the heir to an internationally-lauded fashion brand, she's very stylish.
  • Foreign Culture Fetish: She's a huge fan of Yamato culture, especially manga and anything involving magical girls. She is, however, ashamed of her hobby, probably because her parents are from such an internationally-lauded fashion brand and don't like her indulging in it.
  • Gyaru Girl: She's an otaku and fond of the Gal culture, from her dark skin and blonde hair to her nails. With no small part to her family's business, she is also very fashionable and stylish with her original designs frequently featuring in her manga.
  • Impoverished Patrician: Not her family, mind you, but they're so strict about her allowance (as part of discipline training) that she's forced to work part-time jobs to support her lifestyle of magical girls and manga writing and drawing. Art supplies get expensive, you know.
  • Most Writers Are Writers: She's a manga artist and writer, though she has to keep it a secret from her parents and by extension, her classmates who might end up tipping them off. Her quality has never been directly commented on but her production speed is impressive: she once managed to finish a 16-page manuscript in 2 days, a laudable achievement regardless of the quality.
  • Supreme Chef: Probably as a result of working part-time at cafes and restaurants, she has incredible knife skills and knows how to cook.

    Champe

Hey, hey, Mister? Champe's going to do something nice for you ♡

Voiced by: Seika Hirose

Country of Origin: Marlseillu
Age: 14
School Club: Cabaret
A cute girl with a loving personality and a fondness for older individuals. She is the No. 1 Hostess of the Cabaret Club, so much so that she calls herself "Every student's little sister."
  • Catchphrase: "Champe's going to do something nice for you." It's unknown whether or not this was from the Cabaret Club or she invented it herself.
  • Country Mouse: She likes to portray herself as a "born and raised" City Girl but in actuality, she was raised in the countryside and is fondest of activities in the outdoors, like hiking and stargazing. She often feels homesick because of this.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Her hairstyle, likely chosen to emphasize her young age and cuteness.
  • Hates Being Alone: She gets lonely easily which is part of the reason that she's always so eager to socialize and please others.
  • Hostess Club: She is part of the school's Cabaret Club, which doubles as this. She's the No. 1 Hostess as well.
  • The Informant: She has a talent for information gathering, which pairs very well with her work at the Cabaret Club. Her customers are likely to get very chatty about their lives as she helps them relax in just the ways they like.
  • Likes Older Women: She's all too happy to provide her Cabaret Club services to Emilia and Tsubaki outside of the establishment, both of whom are significantly older than her.
  • Little Sister Heroine: Her main appeal as a hostess in the Cabaret Club and her gimmick within the group. She's even called "Every student's little sister".
  • Magical Gesture: She's notable among the cast for not whistling to use the Echo Gift, clapping her hands instead. After Episode 7, she seems to have taught the technique to Lynette from LiGHTs.
  • Meido: As part of the Cabaret Club's uniform.
  • Nature Lover: She loves the outdoors, stargazing and hiking being two of her hobbies.
  • Nice Girl: She's unquestionably friendly, kind, and warm, willing to go above and beyond to "do something nice for" other people. It's likely one of the pillars of her being the Cabaret Club's #1 Hostess (alongside her talent for information gathering).

    Maryberry

When making Magical Items, failure is inevitable!

Voiced by: Hikaru Akao

Country of Origin: Waleland
Age: 14
School Club: MIT (Magic ITems) Research Club
An incredibly smart and talented student, especially whenever Magical Items are involved. Due to severe social anxiety, however, she has to rely on her Berry Board to interact with others.
  • Animal Motifs: She's fond of sheep dolls, which mirror her shy, gentle, and soft-spoken personality.
  • Bungling Inventor: Her inventions and research are just as likely to work right as they are to fail miserably, making her a mix of this trope and Gadgeteer Genius.
  • Character Development: She becomes more outspoken and uses the Berry Board less after Episode 6. By Episode 11, she speaks loudly, clearly, and doesn't use the board at all.
  • Determinator: As bad as her success rate is, she never loses the drive to continue inventing.
  • Fun with Acronyms: She's a part of the Magical ITems Research Club. note
  • Gadgeteer Genius: She is a highly-skilled inventor for magical items. Her most iconic item is her "Berry Board" which speaks her thoughts for her. Though her successful inventions are almost or are revolutionary, she's just as likely to be a Bungling Inventor.
  • Hikikomori: She was one and is currently recovering, trying to socialize more and perform Orchestras with her groupmates.
  • Iconic Item: Her Berry Board, which lets her communicate her thoughts and feelings despite her social anxiety. It's actually been mass-produced already but she hasn't been able to sell a single one.
  • Intelligence Equals Isolation: She mostly holed up in her club room to work on her inventions, which led to her being socially isolated and developing a communication disorder. Part of her joining the group is to become more sociable and expressive.
  • Magitek: Her specialty. The Berry Board is the most prominent example though she's also a master of the Magical Mechanics that make up the sound systems, the lighting, and other stage elements of an Opera.
  • The Quiet One: She struggles to speak normally thanks to the above-mentioned isolation and has to rely on her "Berry Board" to express most of her thoughts.
  • Verbal Tic: When she speaks out loud and makes declarative statements, she adds "Probably." to the end. She may be getting over her shyness but she's far from being confident.

Sadistic☆Candy

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sadistic_candy.png
Kyaa-rurun ♪ Hello, Hello ★
A dynamic duo of polar opposites constantly butting heads, composed of one of the most talented students in the school and one with the most magical potential.
    In General
  • Absurdly Divided School: They are Rouge rank.
  • Big Girl, Little Girl: They have an astounding height difference between them, 23 cm/0.75 feet. It's made more pronounced by how often they're together and standing side-by-side.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: The two of them manage to maintain their Rouge rank despite skipping almost all of the time. One has to imagine that Lucifer's incredible magic power and Angelica's retaining her skills as a former Child Prodigy have a lot to do with it.
  • Foil: In size and personality, Lucifer and Angelica are almost complete opposites of each other.
  • Friendly Rivalry: The two of them are well-known for competing and arguing with each other, even on-stage.
  • Gratuitous English: Many of their songs feature English words thrown in. This is probably because Angelica was an international star back in Ray and is their lyricist. A great example is "ポジティブ★パラダイス" (Positive★Paradise) which has numerous foreign words written and pronounced in Katakana and plain English both.
  • Religious and Mythological Theme Naming: Angelica means "Angelic" and Lucifer is one of the most infamous of fallen angels in the bible. Yet another point of contrast is how one specializes in healing magic, the other has highly destructive powers.
  • Skipping School: The two of them frequently engage in this, Lucifer so she can spend more time on board games, Angelica so she can watch over her and intentionally earn demerits so their otherwise impressive skills and academic performance won't bump them up to Noire and make it more difficult for Angelica to claim she's just a normal, average girl.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: The two of them are constantly at each other's throats.

The leader of the duo. Formerly known as "Ange" of the now-disbanded unit Ray, she may no longer be small and cute like she was then but her skills as a witch had not dulled since then. For tropes that applied to her three years ago, see Ray's character page.
  • The Ace: She's noted to be an incredibly skilled witch/idol, with her skill in magic, choreography, and singing, which makes sense as she used to be part of one of the most popular, talented, and powerful idol units in the academy's history.
  • Actually, I Am Her: Is a self-professed fan of Ange, but denies knowing her personally. Truth is, Angelica actually is Ange herself.
  • The Atoner: Angelica formed the group with Lucifer partly out of guilt for not helping during her rampage two years ago.
  • Berserk Button:
    • She gets very angry if you call her old, likely because growing up destroyed her former idol career. To be fair, she's not that old but considering the brutal nature of the idol industry...
    • Do not question her ability to perform. It may have been three years since she was forced to retire but she still definitely has her singing, dancing, and songwriting talent, even if she did lose her cuteness.
    • She is also none too pleased whenever Chloe reveals to others that she used to be Ange of Ray, as she'd much rather be as inconspicious as possible.
  • Celebrity Is Overrated: She eventually got tired of constantly being needed and trying to keep up with all the stress and problems that international fame brings you. She decided to take a break from school and only returned at Chloe's behest; it's implied she was perfectly fine with fading into obscurity.
  • Combat Medic: She can cause serious injury as easily as she can heal it right back up.
  • Deliberate Under-Performance: She was a Noire three years ago and could probably go back to her old rank if she wasn't actively trying to be an average, middle-of-the-road student. That Lucifer frequently cuts classes to do her own things gives her a perfect excuse to gain demerits and keep the two of them in good-but-not-remarkable Rouge rank.
  • Former Child Star: She was a student in the academy when she was younger and quite popular at that. She's only now continuing her education at age 18 and only at the behest of Chloe.
  • Growing Up Sucks: Her puberty was very delayed and totally destroyed her former idol career and appeal, independent of Ray's disbanding. It's implied to be one of her reasons for wanting to be a "normal" person after once being an internationally lauded superstar and a well-known Child Prodigy.
  • Healing Hands: Her specialty, done by hovering her hands over the injured spot then sending out healing waves. She cannot, however, heal ailments that affect wisdom teeth, simply because no magic can do so.
  • Hidden Depths: While she seems fairly unassuming on the surface, she was once a member of one of the most renowned units to come out of her school. Unlike the others, most do not make the connection between who she is now and back when she was in Ray, and she wants to keep it that way.
  • Huge Schoolgirl: Her incredible height (172 cm/5'6 feet) is a sore spot for her, probably because she used to be Ange of Ray and banked on her "pure, innocent appeal" when she was younger and much smaller. (139 cm/4'6 feet, a whopping 33 cm/roughly 1-foot growth-spurt in three years, among other changes)
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: After Ray disbanded and puberty rid her of her "cute" appeal, Angelica longs for a much more mundane, less notable life and actively spends time researching how to be "normal". She is also trying to distance herself from her past career, going so far as to adopt an entirely new identity.
  • Kick Chick: In her fight with Lucifer in Episode 3, Angelica is primarily using kicks and diving attacks, which makes sense considering her incredible height and how powerfully her legs are built.
  • Kid Hero All Grown-Up: Three years ago, she went by Ange and was a member of Ray, one of the most legendary, powerful, and beloved witch units to have ever come out of Flora Girls' Academy and indeed, the world. After a period of staying out of the spotlight (and puberty hitting her like a runaway carriage), she returned to the school at Chloe's behest, though is no longer as interested in becoming so legendary or standing out in general.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: The three years since Ray's disbandment have not been kind to her, as she's no longer as sweet, cheerful, and idealistic as she was when she still went by Ange. However, she is still willing to return to the school at Chloe's behest and is still willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needs it, such as in Episode 3 when she healed and revived Coco despite being on opposite teams.
  • The Lad-ette: In stark contrast to her dainty, delicate, and innocent persona as Ange three years ago, Angelica acts in a very crude, aggressive, and masculine manners, such as sitting with her legs spread despite being in a skirt, being rude and openly hostile to others, and constantly getting into very intense physical fights with her partner, Lucifer. This may both be a means to distance herself from her old persona and a sign of the more cynical view of the world she developed after Ray's disbandment.
  • Ma'am Shock: She doesn't take it well when a de-aged Rosetta calls her an "old lady".
  • Meaningful Rename: It's presumed that she's now using her full first name rather than the shortened version "Ange" when she used to be in Ray.
  • My Greatest Failure: When Lucifer's powers went out of control, she found herself too horrified and unable to act. As mentioned above, this is part of the reason she joined up with her as a duo and tries to help her as much as she can.
  • No Hero to His Valet: Despite Chloe's reputation as a cool, collected and strict disciplinarian, Angelica still remembers her as a Chuunibyou back when both of them were members of Ray, and isn't above poking fun at her for it to undermine her image.
  • Phrase Catcher: She's frequently chided for using retired idol Ange's catchphrase, as she's much taller and far less cute than she is. This must sting quite a lot as she WAS Ange.
  • That Man Is Dead: Downplayed. In Episode 11, in response to Lucifer calling her Ange of Ray, she states that she's longer that person, but instead Angelica of Sadistic☆Candy.
  • Took a Level in Cynic: The three years since Ray's disbandment had psychological changes to her, making her a much more cynical, pessimistic, and crude person than she was before.
  • Walking Spoiler: Knowing anything about her beyond surface-level details reveals that she was once a member of Ray and thus one of the most talented witches and musicians to have lived.

    Lucifer

Hm-hmm, excellent. My name will become one of your greatest fears!

Voiced by: Risae Matsuda

Country of Origin: Unknown
Age: 16
School Club: Board Game Research
A girl with incredible magic power and rumored to be one of the most talented students in the academy—if not for her constantly brushing off her academic work in favor of her interest in board games. In spite of constantly getting into fights with Angelica, she still considers her a friend and partner.
  • Affectionate Nickname: "Luci" (Loo-ki), used by Angelica. It's also localized as "Lucy".
  • Chuunibyou: She tries to play to the "dark, mysterious, too dangerous to be around others" stereotype but it's made rather clear that she's trying to cope with the social isolation and discrimination she faces on a regular basis.
  • Competition Freak: She's very driven to win the numerous board games she likes to play.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: About three years ago, her powers went out of control and required the intervention of Ray to stop her. Though she survived and continues to study in Flora Girls', everyone except Angelica is terrified of her and keeps their distance, leaving her isolated. She copes by embracing The Dreaded reputation that's been foisted on her but it's made clear it isn't an ideal solution, to say the least. The exact details of this incident have yet to be elaborated on, even her official bio doesn't know which country she hailed from, and it's implied that Lucifer is just a stage name.
  • The Dreaded: Ever since her considerable magical power went horribly out of control a few years back, every other student has feared her. There are a few exceptions aside from Angelica, but she's not particularly happy that they're mostly the other eccentric outcasts of the Academy.
  • Enemy Eats Your Lunch: She steals one of Angelica's sausages in Episode 11 while the latter is preoccupied with what Chloe told her about an impending Magical Monster attack on Mamuceaster.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Though she'll never admit it, she does want people to play board games with her and to feel less isolated and shunned.
  • Loners Are Freaks: Actively plays up this trope in spite of feeling terribly lonely and wanting to reconnect with others. Despite this, she does have some fans, admirers, and people that want to know her better—she just wishes they weren't all from the "special" class like she is, just as shunned as she is, or otherwise at the bottom of the school's social hierarchy.
  • The Napoleon: Even at 16 years old, she's extremely small and inversely as angry and aggressive. Her powers and physical abilities also trend towards offense.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: She's 149 cm/4'11 feet tall. She can still throw a bumpball hard enough to send the athletic Lavie flying back and scraping the grass off the field, break someone's nose and knock them out cold, and can catch, spin around, and throw the much taller Angelica quite the distance.
  • Power Incontinence: Her impressive magical power once went out of control; we don't know what happened, exactly, but when you can see an entire school building on fire from a birds-eye view, you have to presume it was bad.
  • Secret-Keeper: From the start of the series, she's one of two people that know of Angelica's past as Ange alongside Chloe. As of Episode 8, Tiara now knows as well.
  • Trauma-Induced Amnesia: She has no recollection of her powers going out of control, only the facts that Ray was called in to help and Angelica is trying to atone for her being unable to help her.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: To her detriment. Her magical power is impressive but it's already gone horribly out of control once.

supernova

More than anyone before us, we'll shine the brightest
A group of the academy's best students, meant to fill in the spot left by Ray as the top witch group.
    In General
  • Absurdly Divided School: They are Noire rank.
  • The Ace: They're composed of some of the best, most talented, and experienced performers in the academy.
  • all lowercase letters: Their name is styled this way.
  • Foil: To LiGHTs. supernova is a high-performing, hand-picked group of top students while LiGHTs just happened to come together by chance and spend almost all of the series on the verge of expulsion due to poor performance.
  • Friendly Rivalry: The three of them consider each other friends as much as rivals, working together to perform grand Operas but unafraid to surpass each other and push them to greater heights as individuals.
  • Out of Focus: In the anime, they are formally introduced at the end of Episode 2 and established as Flora Girls' premiere witch unit. Aside from Yue who regularly interacts with Tiara, they have little to no relevance except regular appearances in the background or during gags. What makes this especially glaring is that every other unit has had at least one episode that puts them in the spotlight and regularly interacts with the entirety of LiGHTs besides.

    Yue

... No. I don't particularly care about fame. But, I'm still not going to lose to anyone!

Voiced by: You Sakuragi

Country of Origin: Ryuuto
Age: 17
School Club: Choir
The Leader of the unit and the best singer in the academy. She is critical of all students but especially Tiara.
  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: Thanks to her competitiveness, talent, and high-standards, most students consider her on a level far beyond them and Yue is not interested in bridging the gap.
  • Anime Chinese Girl: Her hair is styled in two small buns, as her homeland Ryuuto is based on China.
  • Competition Freak: She is incredibly competitive and driven to be the top witch and her groupmates are all too happy to help her.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Her home country was attacked several years ago by Magical Monsters and underprepared to protect itself. There were severe casualties and if not for Ray's assistance, things would have been much worse. Thus, her Orchestras and personal goals are driven by the eradication of them than for the sake of bringing happiness to others like Tiara.
  • Foil: To Tiara. Yue is a top student, quite cold and professional with her actions, and is driven by her hatred towards Magical Monsters, while Tiara is on the verge of flunking out, is quite warm and friendly, and is driven by her desire to spread happiness to others.
  • Hime Cut: Despite Ryuuto being based on China, her hair is styled after Japanese royalty, likely to help signify her status as a princess to audiences hailing from there.
  • In-Universe Nickname: Yue-chin, as used by Fiona. note
  • Lonely at the Top: Millefeuille and Fiona are said to be her only friends.
  • The Rival: To Tiara, largely due to being Eliza's former apprentice.
  • Royal Blood: She is a princess of Ryuuto. It's mostly been a liability for her as people avoid her or attempt to interact with her for the wrong reasons.
  • Sheltered Aristocrat: Being so isolated from society at large makes her incredibly prone to misunderstandings and misguided attempts at trying to go with the flow. Key among this is when Fiona attempted to get her to strip naked so she could do bare figure sketches of her, all the while thinking that casual nudity was fine in the country she was in.
  • Unknown Rival: She considers herself Tiara's rival, especially because she was formerly seen as Eliza's successor before her little sister (Tiara) came along and started her own group. Tiara, however, holds no animosity towards her and is often confused by her deliberate hostility.
  • Too Many Belts: Yue only has one belt that serves its intended purpose. The other three on both her forearms and especially the one around her bare thigh seem to only be for aesthetics.
  • Tsundere: She's unable to be honest with her feelings, like when Fiona and Millefeuille tease her about being unable to admit that Tiara and LiGHTs performed well for a first Opera.

There, there, that's a good kid ♡ Your Big Sister just loves taking care of other people!

Voiced by: Saeko Oku

Country of Origin: Marlseillu
Age: 17
School Club: Cooking Research
An incredibly caring and compassionate individual, Millefeuille acts like an older sister to everyone regardless of who they are. She is a member of the Cooking Research society and loves eating. She is also the best dancer of their unit.
  • Big Eater: She loves cooking new and exciting foods as much as she does eating it afterward.
  • Berserk Button: Don't mention her weight or imply she's getting chubby. The normally sweet, peaceful, and motherly Millefeuille quickly gains a terrifying aura complete with "Menacing" sound effects.
  • Childhood Friends: With Chloe. They were also student/apprentice and Chloe had a direct hand in the creation of supernova.
  • Cool Big Sis: She is this to her groupmates and the entire academy as a whole. From meals to advice to help, she's always there to lend a helping hand.
  • Eyes Always Shut: She almost always has her eyes squinted so tightly they may as well be closed, contributing to her calm, friendly, motherly aura. It becomes especially egregious in the opening of the anime, which is Deliberately Monochrome except for the characters' eye colors—the only exception is her as her eyes are closed, as always.
  • Flower Motifs: She has flowers in her headband which help contribute to her kind, gentle, motherly aura alongside the ruffled ribbons she ties her hair with.
  • Meaningful Name: Her actual name or a stage persona, it's fitting the Team Chef, the Big Eater, and the Cool Big Sis of the group is named after a sweet pastry.
  • One-Note Cook: A 4-panel comic shows that she can only make sweets well; anything else, she turns into a Lethal Chef and no amount of love and passion for cooking can save it as Fiona found out the hard way.
  • Sweet Tooth: She's especially fond of the pastries from her homeland.
  • Team Chef: For her group and many other students as well. She is also a member of the "Cooking Research Society" on campus.
  • Unwanted Assistance: As enthusiastic as she is about helping others it sometimes goes sideways.
  • Weight Woe: Despite her love for cooking and eating both, she's so terrified by the prospect of having gained weight that she simply refuses to try to measure it.

    Fiona

I'll do my best! Shine bright, my soul! Anyway, shall we bare everything?!

Voiced by: Haruka Itou

Country of Origin: Firenza
Age: 17
School Club: Art
An athletic art student, Fiona came to Flora Girls' Academy in search of new inspiration for her work. Though the heat of her personality can be intense, that same fiery passion is what attracts people to her.
  • Boyish Short Hair: She's much more of a tomboy than her groupmates and has a short, spiky hairstyle, fitting for her habit of acting like a male shonen protagonist.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: Among other things, she believes you have to be "bare" (as in naked) to do bare sketches (drawings without much detail or shading).
  • Hot-Blooded: She puts 100% of her passion into everything. Everything.
  • Innocent Innuendo: She's an art student, she frequently asks people to pose for her, and she's obsessed with being as authentic and "naked" as the mountains she admires so much. While she does request her subjects go nude, it's usually from her incredibly strange thought process than anything predatory or sexual.
  • Large Ham: To the unprepared and unaware, interacting with Fiona is similar to standing near a raging fire while a giant wall of subwoofers blast shonen cliches at full-power.
  • No Indoor Voice: Like Lavie of LiGHTs, she is prone to thinking out loud like talking about how cute Yue's panda panties are while she's (unknowingly) broadcasting it through the school's PA system.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: She will grab a complete stranger's hands, get right up in their faces, and sees nothing wrong with asking them to model for her—naked, thanks to her rather strange thought process.

Anime Continuity Characters

    Coco, Lily, and Melissa

Three students who join LiGHTs in the bumpball match and show up from time to time.

In General

  • Absurdly Divided School: They are Lapis rank.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: They join LiGHTs in the bumbpball match in Episode 3 to provide the necessary numbers for a team plus substitutions. They are never seen joining them for anything ever again.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: They show up in Episode 9 to talk to LiGHTs sans Tiara to talk about how inspired they were by their first Opera. They end up giving Lavie, Ashley, and Lynette the drive and inspiration to join Rosetta on her journey to Bristol, in order to get Tiara back.

Coco and Lily

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lily_coco.jpg
Coco (left) and Lily (right)
  • Always Identical Twins: Hairstyles aside, their eyes are the only thing that is not completely identical between the two of them.
  • Bloody Hilarious: Thanks to Lily's using their Swap Teleportation magic at the worst possible time, an unsuspecting Coco ends up getting hit in the face with a speeding bumpball. She ends up with a bloody nose and becomes unconscious shortly after. The whole incident is Played for Laughs though Lily is legitimately remorseful about the incident and Angelica heals and revives Coco shortly after, much to her sister's relief.
  • Identical Twin ID Tag: They both have similar haircuts but Lily's bangs are pinned back with star clips while Coco's are not. Coco also wears her star clips on the right side of her head.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: Each has a hair bang that is longer than the other and ends in a spike than being cut across. They are on opposite sides, as an additional way to distinguish them both.
  • Polar Opposite Twins: Lily is incredibly hot-blooded and passionate while Coco is much quieter and reserved.
  • Spear Carrier: Their unit is on mail duty in Episode 7, so Coco delivers the letter to LiGHTs congratulating them on helping the investigation in Episode 6, giving them 10 points, and a second one that informs them that Lavie's stealing the map that got them there docked 70 points from their record.
  • Swap Teleportation: Their magic specialty which allows them to trade places nigh-instantly.

Melissa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/melissa_0.jpg

    Marianne
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/marianne_7.jpg
A sentient, haunted doll that runs the Haunted House in Episode 5-6, alongside Garnet.
  • Back for the Finale: In Episode 12, it turns out she came with Garnet after she left the haunted house. She is seen in the school's lobby as IV KLORE and the rest of the units are preparing for the Ceaster Festival.
  • Creepy Doll: Her appearance alludes to the Victorian-era dolls which aimed for hyper-realistic faces.
  • Motive Rant: After Maryberry is rescued and everyone is sitting down in the parlor for tea, she explains why she and Garnet have been kidnapping travelers from the forest and taking them into the house, alongside her backstory.
  • Perverse Puppet: She is the primary antagonist of Episode 5-6, helping Garnet kidnap travelers and students in a misguided attempt to make friends and not be so lonely in the house they're trapped in. She's also perfectly willing to kill people that are trying to help their victims escape.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Her eyes glow when she speaks or uses her poltergeist powers over the mansion, usually to trap people or permanently get rid of meddlesome "guests" at the worst.
  • Start of Darkness: She was the prized possession of the child of a rich family until for unexplained reasons, they disappeared and left her and the house to crumble and rot.

    Anna
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/anna_659.jpg
A maid who works for the Royal Family of Bristol, who used to take care of Tiara and Eliza when they were younger. Due to this, she is also on very familiar terms with Rosetta.
  • Almighty Janitor: Despite her formal position being the princesses handmaid and nanny, Episode 11 shows she's perfectly capable of flying a magic-powered dirigible.
  • Old Retainer: While she's not old enough to have graying hair, she clearly is middle-aged and acts very matronly towards her charges. Memories stored in the tiara worn by Tiara reveal that she has been in the royal family's service since at least when Tiara's mother was a young child.
  • Saying Too Much: In Episode 10, she almost lets slip that Eliza had followed Tiara into Flora Girls' Academy and watching over her for who-knows-how-long.
