Passengers

Passengers aboard the Infinity Train who must take the same path as Chloe did: traverse the cars in order to figure out their problems and they can go home when the number on their hand drops down to 0.

While many passengers are still inside the mythical train, several of them have long since left, though not without scars. For their tropes, see here.

For tropes related to The Apex, see here.

    In General
  • A Boy and His X: Each passenger usually has a partner in one of the many denizens in the Infinity Train.
  • Fatal Flaw: The Train picks up those who have one of these in an attempt to fix them. Whether or not they know what they are or if they want to fix them is another story.
  • Hero of Another Story: Most of them have their own adventures that we don't see.

Passengers mentioned in Blossoming Trail

    Tulip Olsen
A 13-year-old girl who decided to run away from home to get to her coding camp after neither of her (divorced) parents were capable of doing so. While she's already finished her adventure on the Train, her presence still lingers on in The Corgi Car and subtly influenced through One-One's reign as the Conductor and Amelia's work in cleaning the Cars of corrupted code.
  • Famed In-Story: In the Corgi Car, there's a statue of her alongside Atticus, there are onions planted in her memory and the bathhouse has tulips made in mosaic. The Cat even speaks fondly of her, comparing her to Chloe on their treks to end the chaos on the Infinity Train.
  • Fiery Redhead: Not as bad as Chloe's but she was shown to have a temper in regards to her parents' divorce.
  • Floral Theme Naming: Tulip was named for how her parents "bounced back" like a perennial flower and gives a contrast to Chloe Cerise (whose name reads "cherry blossom").
  • Gamer Chick: In the sense that she creates games, not plays them. In fact, she got on the train because she tried walking to a coding camp all by herself.
  • The Ghost: Mentioned many times by Atticus but never seen; justified since the story takes place long after she first ran away from home. One-One states that Tulip and Chloe would probably get along if they ever met.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Her parents still had a divorce for the same reason as in canon.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: Tulip's role in bringing One-One back as the "true" Conductor for those who never saw Book 1.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: In the grand scheme of things, she's just another passenger on the train. Without her though, the "true" Conductor would never have regained their position and unleash the chain of events that would lead Amelia to encounter Grace and Simon and systematically tear down their world views.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: A logical thinker and game programmer with U-frame glasses.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Onions. Corgnia plants onions in honor of her.

    Jaden
A boy in a red jacket with a winged furball as his partner. He and Chloe occasionally cross paths with one another.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: He's the Supreme King of Darkness but has no malicious bone or motive at all.
  • Hero of Another Story: He apparently passed by the Toy Brick Car in Knight of the Orange Lily.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: Chloe reads a story and learns how Jaden is truly the Supreme King of Darkness.
  • Nice Guy: From the brief interactions they have, Jaden is all smiles and wishes Chloe good luck on her journey.
  • Recurring Extra: Appeared in leaving Azada where he and Chloe exchanged hellos and again in the Canals of Fondue Car where he tells a story about meeting up with his idol and another guy with crab-hair. In the prequel story, Knight of the Orange Lily, Gladion finds a shield with his last name on it in the Toy Brick Car, showing a Kuriboh with multi-colored eyes.
  • Red Is Heroic: Wears his red Duel Academy jacket and is a good guy.
  • Shout-Out: It's basically Jaden Yuki on the Infinity Train. Chloe even reads a story he wrote which is about him becoming the Supreme King of Darkness. When they reunite in The Canals of Fondue Car, he tells her about the time he teamed up with Yugi Muto and Yusei Fudo.
  • V-Sign: Gives one to Chloe before he goes off to rest.

    Amelia Hughes
A passenger on the train who turned out to have usurped One-One three decades ago in order to recreate her life with her deceased husband in some way, shape, or form.
See here for more tropes about her.

Isaac "Zack" Foster and Rachel "Ray" Gardner
A pair of passengers the Red Lotus Trio meet in the Burial Ground of Blades Car. Chloe requests that they help teach her how to fight.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Both of them are shown to be nicer than in canon. Justified in that this is taking place after the events of their game.
  • Beware the Quiet Ones: Ray doesn't say a lot, but she's skilled with a shotgun and will not let anyone hurt Zack while she has anything to say about it.
  • Battle in the Rain: A video The Cat shows Grace and Simon has him fighting Chloe in a car that rains "T"s
  • Brains and Brawn: Ray is the brains while Zack is the brawn.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Zack has black hair, wields a scythe, and has killed plenty of people. However, he has a sense of chivalry and a code of honor he sticks to, stating that he owes Chloe for saving him from the shock collar by giving her fighting lessons and never ever lies.
  • Death Seeker: Ray wishes to die by Zack's hands for the crime of killing her parents, which is the promise they made to one another.
  • Emotionless Girl: Ray can't smile due to the fact that she killed her parents and feels like God would never forgive her for it. And if she does smile, it looks absolutely empty due to her eyes. Should she truly smile, then that is when Zack will kill her.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Zack is a serial killer, but he at least admits that he's a killer. He finds it disgusting what the Apex does and how Grace and Simon lie and manipulate children to murder denizens.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Or rather 'Anti-Hero'. Zack is completely confused when Chloe states how she's envious of his friendship with Ray — even though they only bonded because Ray wanted Zack to kill her — in the midst of a gladiator battle and can't find any reason to defeat her.
  • Face of a Thug: Zack, due to how he was burned as a child, is covered in bandages. Just one look at him causes Shio to scream in fear.
  • Guys Smash, Girls Shoot: Zack charges into battle with a scythe, Ray uses a shotgun (although she carries a knife as a back-up weapon).
  • Hair-Contrast Duo: Ray is a blond-haired Emotionless Girl skilled with a gun. Zack is the black-haired Serial Killer who sports a Slasher Smile and wields a scythe.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: Zack is at least 6' while Ray only reaches his ribcage.
  • I'm a Doctor, Not a Placeholder: Zack proclaims he's a serial killer, not a teacher when Chloe requests fighting lessons from him.
  • In-Series Nickname: "Zack" for Issac and "Ray" for Rachel. This is because Zack can't remember names well. He also gives Chloe the nickname "Bad Girl" but Chloe requests to just call her by her real name.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: Them appearing on the Train spoils the fact that they survive until the end of their story.note
  • Laughing Mad: Zack does this when he sees Simon, as Destruction, trying to leave the Fog Car but only finds out that his dragon transformation is only inside said Fog Car.
  • The Promise: Zack and Ray made one in the past to escape the tower they were trapped in, in exchange for Zack killing her. Now they're promising each other to get out of the Train so Zack can truly finish the job. Zack himself always makes sure to keep his promises, which Chloe uses as a request to help her train for the Apex.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Zack is about to hurt Chloe in their match in the Garden of Madness, but hearing her compare him to a friend of hers (Goh) in how they're loyal to a friend, makes him walk away in anger and frustration because he finds no joy in attacking someone who could say something so sugary sweet. Turns out to be the right choice too, as Chloe repays this by destroying the shock collar Gadreel locked on him.
  • Sinister Scythe: Zack's weapon of choice.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Zack loves spewing out cusses when he speaks.
  • So Proud of You: Zack states this to Chloe when they reunite after the Fog Car.
  • Villains Never Lie: Or rather Anti-Heroes never lie, but Zack makes it a personal mission to be honest and keep his word.
  • Would Hurt a Child: In their fight at the Burial Ground of Blades Car, Zack is seconds away from knocking Chloe unconscious, but then decides not to when Chloe states that she was quite envious of him and his bond with Ray.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: They get very little if any mention "Voyage of Wisteria", not even in the epilogue.

    Satou and Shio
Another pair of passengers who happily work as baker's assistants in Mallow's Magical Malasadas located in the Canals of Fondue Car.
  • Back for the Dead: The two of them end up dead by Ogami's hand in the sequel.
  • Berserk Button: If you ever think of threatening Shio, Satou will murder you.
  • Children Are Innocent: Shio's number is in the double digits, indicating that while she does have unresolved issues, compared to everyone else, she's relatively innocent. That said, she's not mentally stable given that she's with someone like Satou instead of her older brother, and given how Shio has just accepted what Satou has done in the name of "love"...
  • The Cutie: Shio is a sweet and cheerful little girl.
  • Death of a Child: Shio gets murdered by Ogami.
  • Foil: Both girls are opposites to the Apex.
    • Satou has similar goals of not leaving the Train to escape the consequences of her original life...which opposed to the violence Grace and Simon commits, Satou lives quietly as a waitress and simply doesn't resolve the problems as opposed to making her number higher.
    • Shio, like the children of the Apex, is a young vulnerable child influenced by an older teenager. But unlike the Apex, Satou does care for Shio and goes out of her way to protect and provide for the girl whereas Grace and Simon are just using the Apex for their own means.
  • Insistent Terminology: Shio innocently insists to Chloe that Satou is her "special someone", not her sister.
  • Karma Houdini: Satou and Shiou were saved by the Train after jumping off Satou's burning apartment building at the end of their series. Where they happily work as waitresses in Mallow's Magical Malasadas...which means Satou had gotten away with her crimes of kidnapping, blackmail, captivity, assault, and murder, especially since the only way out of the Train is to admit your flaws. However...
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: Ogami murders both of them in Voyage of Wisteria; although not because of the karma but more so under the belief of "helping" them be together.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: Valon summarizes the story as to how Satou adopted Shio to Chloe.
  • Love Makes You Crazy: It certainly did for both of them.
  • Mama Bear: Satou starts chanting her Madness Mantra ("Bitter...bitter....bitter!") and is ready to taze Zack when he unintentionally scares Shio. It stops because Chloe intervenes.
  • Meaningful Name: Their names mean "Sugar" and "Salt" respectively and they work in a bakery. Zack even lampshades this by calling them exactly that.
  • Morality Pet: Shio acts like this to Satou who immediately reverts to protective mode when Shio starts crying.
  • Red Right Hand: Chole sees that Satou's number goes up to her wrist. Which, considering Satou's crimes...
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: Inverted. Satou has pink hair and looks like a sweet girl...but she's anything but that.
  • Together in Death: Both of them are murdered by Ogami to be reincarnated as denizens.
  • Unreliable Expositor: Varon explains that Satou is protective of Shio due to people in their lives trying to exploit Shio and the little girl's mother abandoning her. Blissfully unaware that Satou kidnapped Shio and also blackmailed and murdered plenty of people too.

    BROKEN Matt Hardy
An eccentric wrestler who once visited the Fog Car.
  • The Ghost: Is never seen in person as he's left the Fog Car some time before Blossoming Trail started.
  • Mad Oracle: Matt is described as this, giving a "premo-NEE-tion" to Henry and Walter about who would play the role of "Lady Destiny" when he visited the Fog Car with his "obsolete mule" denizen partner.
  • Mythology Gag: His partner is an "obsolete mule", which is a nickname he gave his brother Jeff.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Him giving a premonition about Lady Destiny's description is what made Walter and Henry dead set on getting Chloe as part of the Cage of Flauros.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Green beans. In Poppies for Flauros, he apparently praised Alex's green bean mac and cheese casserole.

    Rashid and Azam
A pair of passengers who travel with the Red Lotus Trio across the Cyan Desert Car.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Downplayed; Rashid was able to move on from his friend's death in his game but the fact that he's on the Train proves otherwise.
  • Blow You Away: Rashid has the ability to create tornadoes which he uses to help control the raft across the desert.
  • Determinator: Azam tells Chloe the advice Rashid learned: it's not about the ability but whether or not you want to get things done.
  • Gentle Giant: Azam is tall and imposing, but he's also gentle and loyal to Rashid and gives sound advice to Chloe.
  • Hero of Another Story: Rashid mentions how he helped save his world.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: Platonic example as there is a scene where the tall muscular Azam is shown to be patient to the smaller Chloe.
  • Humble Hero: Rashid saved his world from destruction yet he is in awe at how Chloe is off to stop The Apex.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: Rashid spent his story mode trying to find the whereabouts of his friend... only to learn too late that she died via F.A.N.G's acid.
  • Nerves of Steel: Azam is not afraid of whatever monstrous forms Henry and Walter revealed, telling them to cut it out or else.
  • Nice Guy: Rashid and Azam are mellow guys who are willing to travel with the Red Lotus Trio across the Cyan Desert and give sound advice for Chloe's concerns about Goh.
  • The Nicknamer: They call Chloe either "Lady Chloe" or "Lady Lahab" (Lahab being "Flame" in Arabic)
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Azam patiently listening to Chloe air out her troubles and giving her some sound advice is what gives Chloe the confidence to press forward and to start making amends with everyone back in Vermillion City.
  • Spanner in the Works: In Court of Cyclamen, when Infinigram accounts are being mysterious deleted, Rashid does the sensible thing and asks whoever created the Infinet to fix it. Doing this helps figure out who's causing the mess.
  • Stepford Smiler: Rashid is a jovial laid-back guy, but he's on the Train meaning he has some baggage he has to sort.
  • Trauma Button: After the incident with Operation CHAINS, Rashid hates poison-tipped weapons presumably because of how his friend died by F.A.N.G completely melting her with his acid.
  • Undying Loyalty: Not even a magical Train will stop Azam from following Rashid.
  • Would Not Hit a Girl: Rashid admits it upfront that he usually doesn't fight girls and feels uncomfortable when Chloe requests him to "punch her in the face" for another one of her videos.

    Romin Kirishima
An eleven-year-old girl who the Red Lotus Quarto meet in the Curry Car who is just one trial away from leaving, but feels like she doesn't deserve to go home.
  • The Ace: She admits that she's this: good at academics, athletic and she plays guitar in the school band. However, she also admits that she's afraid others will think differently of her if they knew she can't sing.
  • Action Girl: Not in the same brand as Chloe, but she's willing to summon her Duel Monsters to fight off the Curry Prince's guards.
  • Color Motifs: Purple. She has long violet hair and the sari she wears in The Curry Car is purple. Her self proclaimed title is "Violet Psychic Musician".
  • Dreadful Musician: Zigzagged; she's good at the guitar, but not singing. However the fact that she's tone-deaf is what causes the birth of Rush Duels due to her cousin blackmailing her about it and her ashamed to admit it.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: She ends up befriending Chloe during their stay in the Curry Car while battling the Curry Prince's guards and wish each other good luck.
  • Foreshadowing: Romin was referenced in an early author's note (but moreso on how she was getting more character and focus than Chloe was at the time)
  • For Want Of A Nail: She got on the Train because she chickened out on wanting to give Rook her homemade curry at the last minute.
  • Girls Love Chocolate: She likes chocolate and Chloe tells her that, as part of her plan to reveal the identity of the Curry Prince, she has to cook a chocolate curry.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: The reason she's on the Train is that she feels incredibly guilty for betraying her friends Yuga, Gakuto, and Rook because of how her cousin blackmailed her. Over being tone-deaf.
  • Hollywood Tone-Deaf: She's tone-deaf, something she desperately did not want anyone to find out. To the point that she accepted to help her cousin create Rush Duels.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: For the 1st arc of SEVENS, especially as it spoils why she was hanging around Yuga and his friends in the first place.
  • Legendary in the Sequel: Voyage of Wisteria has a mural painted of her in the Curry Car.
  • Lethal Chef: She herself admitted to mistaking a dishwasher machine for a rice cooker. Apparently, the attempt to make the chocolate curry had her set a tent on purple fire.
  • Lucky Seven: Her number when Chloe meets her is at 7. Fitting since she's from the seventh Yu-Gi-Oh! series.
  • My Greatest Failure: She feels horrible for using Yuga, Gakuto and Rook to help her cousin's plan over not wanting to reveal her "dark secret."
  • The Power of Rock: She's a guitarist, her Duel Disk is in the shape of a guitar and her Psychic Musician archetype is based on a rock band.
  • Red Baron: "Violet Psychic Musician".

Passengers referenced in Voyage of Wisteria

    Ignis Scienta
A blind passenger whom Goh meets in the Canals of Fondue Car.
  • Beneath Suspicion: Ben and Dahlia don't think twice about bragging in front of the sushi chef in sunglasses. This leads to him passing along important information for the Travellers of Wisteria.
  • Big Damn Heroes: He and Raboot save Goh from being murdered by Ogami.
  • Handicapped Badass: He's blind but that doesn't stop him from saving Goh via Ice Bomb when Ogami is about to murder him or cooking difficult sushi dishes.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: Ignis revealing how he became blind, and the fact he became blind, is a massive one for the game he comes from.
  • Nice Guy: He's courteous to Goh and even gives him supplies before he leaves with the Red Lotus Quarto.
  • Rule of Symbolism: His train number is 15, representing the numbered Final Fantasy game he comes from.
  • Supreme Chef: He was this back in his own world and states he could replicate one of the malasadas just by taste alone. Being blind doesn't hamper this at all.
    • He later perfectly prepares Fugu, as in one of the most dangerous sushi dishes in the world if improperly prepared.

    Phyrne Fisher and Jane Ross
A glamorous Australian detective from the 1920's who is hanging out in the Grand Cineplex Car with her adopted daughter.
  • Drives Like Crazy: Vaggie hoped that, because Phyrne was born in the 1920's when the fastest cars were lucky to pierce 30mph, she'd be a 'young version of a little old lady driver'. Oh boy, was she wrong. Dormouse makes the same mistake while she's riding him.
  • Ethical Slut: Phryne is very much this in her home series, and it's implied that she...ahem, "danced" with Sly Cooper.
  • Good Counterpart: Jane is this to Sara, being a blond girl who has a strained relationship with her mother figure but still has a good bond and actually is excited to meet up with Chloe whereas Sara wanted to take every opportunity to bully her.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Jane has blond hair and is a really nice person compared to the likes of Sara.
  • The Roaring '20s: Came straight out of there with her daughter, Jane.
  • Master of Disguise: Jane manages to pass herself off as Maya Fey to expose the false Chloe.
  • Ms. Exposition: She gives Amelia the lowdown on the true Dr. Killjoy.
  • Parents as People: Part of the reason Miss Fisher's on the train with her daughter: she's helpful and supportive, but they haven't had a proper vacation together in months, and there's a lingering sense that Jane isn't her daughter so much as someone who's occasionally there when she has her adventures.
  • Thrill Seeker: Why she enjoys the Desert Race, going faster than she thought was possible.

    Shirley Fenette
A schoolgirl from the Holy Britannian Empire who has a history with Grace.
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Her 'Terrorist Boyfriend' Lelouch.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: This Shirley, like in the movies (which are set in an alternate continuity) survives past the point in Code Geass where she'd have otherwise died, leading to a happier ending overall.

     Lapis Lazuli
An alien who can control water with a history with Grace.
  • True Blue Femininity: While technically a genderless alien, she is blue and, like most gems, is mentally the closest to a biological female.

    Dr. Killjoy
A mad doctor who entered the train several decades before, and made a surprising mark.
  • Affably Evil: Pleasant and professional for a mad doctor.
  • For Science!: When he got on the train, he became fixated on studying the behavior of souls and reincarnation on the train. He actually made quite a few important breakthroughs...at the cost of several lives.
  • Large Ham: If his in-universe actor is to be believed. Turns out to apply to the real one as well.
  • Mr. Exposition: Invoked - his main impact on the train and what he put his soul into were what he considered educational lectures on the nature of souls aboard the train. He states that his intention was for his work to be discussed and examined by other scientists.
  • Posthumous Character: Died on the train to unknown circumstances long before Amelia arrived. Or not.
  • Predecessor Villain: The 'First Unsub'...and it's suggested that he has some connection to the current one. It's later confirmed that Killjoy created the device that gave him his immortality.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Amelia and Lexi haven't heard of him, but One-One brought him up as a cautionary tale in "Knight of the Orange Lily." In fairness, he's been dead for decades and nobody likes admitting just how much knowledge is because of his murders.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Killjoy has only had a few scenes in the Blossomverse, but his legacy echoes through the train. As he himself points out, the reason anyone knows about tapes, souls, or reincarnation is because of him.
  • Values Dissonance: It's noted that he was from a world where trepanning and lobotomies were considered valid science, which may go towards his extremism in his experiments.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: His only goal, according to him, was to unriddle the riddles of the train for the benefit of every patient. Except for the ones he killed, of course.

    Arnold Perlstein
A schoolkid that Goh's group meets in the Kaiju Car.
  • Catchphrase: Gives a variant to Goh, remarking that he probably wishes he stayed home that day. Goh corrects him...he was home that day.
  • Giver of Lame Names: "Bigabun"? At least is isn't "Biggerace." And then there's Intalleon...
  • Non-Action Guy: Not a fighter, so he can't deal with the Monsters himself. Apparently, he's tried before.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: The presence of giant corgis in the final battle points to him, but he hasn't been seen yet. Then again, he isn't a fighter.
  • Pungeon Master: The names he gives to the giant Cinderace (Bigabun) and Inteleon (Intalleon); he admits that Carlos was rubbing off of him. At least no one's shouting "Arnold!" at him.
  • Seen It All: Doesn't seem shocked at everything he's gone through on the Train. Then again, given what he's been through with Miss Frizzle, this is justified.
  • Shrink Ray: Uses one to Gigantify Cinderace and Inteleon.

    Waspinator
A former Predacon with seriously bad luck.
  • Cosmic Plaything: The universe just flat-out hates Waspinator, and the poor guy knows it. When he first arrived, Waspinator had a number everywhere on his body, which says a lot about the guys lot in life.
  • Eviler than Thou: In an odd Pet the Dog moment, he points out to Kenny that whatever he might be as an ex-Apex member, Waspinator was a war criminal for decades while he was a kid who got suckered into a cult for a few years.
  • Hulk Speak: Wazzzpinator talkzz in the third perzzzon.
  • The Nicknamer: Except for Megatron, he normally calls other people (regardless if they're a fellow Transformer, Passenger, or Denizen) "[Something]-Bot". For example he calls The Cat "TheCat-Bot" and Alain "Alan-Bot".
  • Time Abyss: As is typical for a Transformer, he's been on the Train for a loooong time, four million stellar cycles according to him.
