The Roadmare Union

     Doge Audrey Leliban
The Doge of Roadmare and former Governor of the Highland Province.
  • Iron Lady: She quickly takes charge of the situation after Edgar Bowman's Golems go berserk, and even intimidates the Doge into submission. Naturally, this gets her chosen as the new Doge.
  • Master of All: She briefly gains all of Touya's powers during the final battle against the Mutant Phrase through the use of a magic app that had been distributed to everyone's smartphones.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Delivers a particularly scathing one to Edgar Bowman after he recklessly caused his Wood Golems to go berserk in Roadmare's capital city.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: She was fully prepared to work with Touya and evacuate her people to protect them from the imminent Phrase invasion, even if the Doge ordered her not to.

     Limit Limitex
The commander of Roadmare's knight order.
  • Alliterative Name: Limit Limitex.
  • Break Them by Talking: When Edgar Bowman tries to worm his way out of taking responsibility for the rampaging Golems, Limit reads a series of lab notes she recovered, revealing that Bowman authorized reckless modifications to his Golems because people started to question the effectiveness of his research after one of Brunhild's Frame Gears soundly thrashed one of his Golems in a duel.
  • Love Confessor: Touya once saw her getting love advice from Karen during a banquet.

     Volk Ragil
The former Doge and former Governor of the Central Province.
  • Accomplice by Inaction: He's relieved of his position after his enabling allowed Bowman to perform dangerous experiments on his Golems.
  • Break the Haughty: He can do nothing but stew in his own shame as Audrey verbally eviscerates Bowman, whom Volk had supported and enabled.
  • Smug Snake: His tone when speaking to Touya, the King of Belfast, and the Emperor of Regulus is noted as sounding backhanded, constantly doubting their warnings about how much of a threat the Phrase pose.

     Edgar Bowman
A magic engineer who was in charge of developing a method for Roadmare to defend themselves against the Phrase.
  • Ambition Is Evil: He wanted to prove that his magitechnological knowledge was the best, even if it meant endangering his fellow citizens or joining an organization of Magic Supremacists.
  • Arc Villain: One of the three main antagonists along with Galzeld and Chieh Xiaofah in the Golden Order arc of the light novel.
  • Big Bad Slippage: Of the Arc Villain variant. After being arrested for causing damage within Roadmare's capital city from his malfunctioning Golems, Bowman later becomes obsessed with revenge against Touya and Brunhild that he later joins with the Golden Order and Yulong's fake Emperor Chieh to take over Felsen with his army of Steel Battalions.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: Unable to accept that his Golems were ineffective at defending Roadmare, he went through with a reckless experiment that outfitted the Golems with parasitic plants that were intended to unleash the Golems' full potential. In his haste, he failed to realize that the plants were sentient, and were able to hijack the minds of the Golems. The Golems then went berserk and caused significant damage to Roadmare's capital city before Elze took them all out with her Frame Gear.
  • Grand Theft Prototype: With the assistance of the Golden Order, he steals the broken parts of a Frame Gear and creates a shoddy offshoot known as the Steel Battalion.
  • Insufferable Genius: His smug prattling about the supposed effectiveness of his Golems manages to piss off Touya, the King of Belfast, and the Emperor of Regulus. Touya gets him to shut up by pitting one of Bowman's Golems against a Frame Gear; a fight the Golem loses in a rather spectacular fashion.
  • Older Than They Look: Between his unhealthy complexion and receding hairline, it's hard to believe this guy is only twenty-five.
  • Public Execution: After being captured following the fall of the Golden Order.
  • This Cannot Be!: Said almost verbatim when he realized that his Golem was no match against a Frame Gear.
  • Villain Team-Up: Bowman later becomes part of the Big Bad Ensemble in The Golden Order arc of the novel. He joins forces with Gordian the Golden Order and Yulong's current Heavenly Emperor to build thousands of Steel Battalion bots, of whom which to be used to take over Felsen.
