Crypta (Old and New)

Hidden away from the rest of the world in an everlasting sandstorm, Crypta is a forbidden land of the dead - quite literally so. Once, in the 'Third Age', it was a prosperous and powerful civilization, an Empire of martial and magical might which had nearly taken over the world under the command of its indomitable High Queen, serving as one of the greatest challenges to the heroes and nations of an otherwise innocent and wondrous era of magic.

All that, however, lies in the past. Now, its great cities and temples are in ruins, the civilization destroyed by the same catastrophes that ended the fantastical 'Third Age'. Its population suffered no less a terrible fate: the vast majority of its people died, and with the afterlife of the lands damaged, its people are unable to move on. Instead, they are left trapped in their mummified bodies, which are reanimated by their soul and the powerful magicks they once wielded. Among the greatest of these mummies are the Tomb Kings/Queens, the pharaohs who once ruled the lands in Sekra's name, and in her absence had taken custodianship of her dominion, guarding their former glory and their wealth from plunderers and scavengers who would dare to intrude into their tombs.

The god-queen herself was mortally-wounded due to the same catastrophe, and though she survived, her physical form was gone, and her divine consciousness and essence was sealed away in her own 'Crown of the Burning Sun', where she remain dormant, sleeping away the millennia to recover, waiting until someone worthy would don it and allow her to reincarnate back into the mortal world. That time would finally come in the Fourth Age, when an renowned adventurer found and donned the Crown in desperation to keep it and Sekra's power from falling into the wrong hooves. Sekra would possess her body and transfigure it, while the High Queen's divine soul would fuse with her host's own.

With her triumphant return, Sekra would set out to restore Crypta to glory and greatness with her loyal Tomb Kings/Queens at her side, and Equus shall remember with awe and fear the forgotten power of Crypta...

    General
  • The Ace: The Old Cryptan Empire was one of the greatest civilizations of the Third Age and believed themselves to be a pinnacle of cultural, economic, military and sorcerous advancement - which formed one basis and justification for their ambition to Take Over the World as they felt obliged to rule over all lands so everyone could share in their prosperity and power.
  • And There Was Much Rejoicing: After spending millennia wallowing in the ruins of their fallen empire, being turned Undead without a proper afterlife, bereft of their past glory and their future greatness, the Cryptans were utterly jubilant to behold the return of their High Queen, Sekra the Indomitable, along with her promise of a new age of rebuilding and reconquest that would see them reign supreme once more over the world.
  • Ancient Egypt: The overall theme of Crypta, both past and present, taken from both their inspiration and the actual place in real life.
  • Annoying Arrows: Subverted HARD with the Cryptan Sunbows. These enchanted bows allows Crypta's elite archers to fire arrows/bolts of magically-compressed/sustained solar plasma upon their enemies, able to turn sand into glass, melt through military vehicle armour, and set everything flammable alight from sheer heat when/wherever they hit. One drabble depicts Cryptan elite skeleton archers wiping out a whole formation of armoured vehicles with a rain of them during a battle of the 'New Crypta Conquests', and even those who survive the barrages unscathed can suffer acute radiation poisoning from being in close proximity to the dissipating solar plasma. Larger versions wielded by the Ushabti are large enough to shoot spear-sized sun arrows which are hot enough to melt through adult Dragon scales, shoot down Zeppelins and Aeroflyers and bombard areas explosively like artillery barrages. This is merely one demonstration of Crypta's military might as well as the sheer magical advancement of the 'Third Age', which terrified many in the present.
Sunbow-barrage Survivor: How in all the Hells do we fight someone who can shoot pieces of the Sun at you?
  • Awakening the Sleeping Giant: The return of Sekra the Indomitable, High Queen of Crypta ended millennia of ennui and dormancy in the empire and quickly led to its rapid restoration and return into the world stage.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: A limited victory, but a win nevertheless. While Sekra and Crypta did not succeed in Taking Over The World during the 'New Crypta Conquests', they still come very close, and still managed to reforge their empire outside of their heartlands in the new Age as their campaigns were only barely halted by the heroic forces and other world powers. They are well on their way to reestablishing their status as a Great Power in the aftermath and would be free to try again later.
  • Captain Ersatz: Crypta takes after the Tomb Kings of Nehekhara from Warhammer Fantasy, with additional elements from the Goa'uld System Lords, the Necron Dynasties from Warhammer 40,000 and other franchises featuring themes and elements of ancient Egypt and Mesopotamian civilizations.
  • Civil War: In the pre-Sekra era, one occurred in the myriad kingdoms and dominions of Crypta mirrored the schism between the Cryptan gods that occurred following Raptah's poisoning, dividing by racial lines with the Sun Cats followed Raptah (then incapacitated) and Pethemet's faction, the Anubians following Ausaris and Anubis' faction, and the Ponies following the independents faction. The era of internecine conflict and chaos lasted two hundred years before Sekra the Indomitable conquered the lands and united both the mortal kingdoms and divine pantheon back together.
  • Despair Event Horizon: The loss of their empire, their gods, their living bodies and even their afterlives as a result of the catastrophic end of the Third Age had left the Cryptans devastated, resulting in a long era of ennui and dormancy where they mostly slept in their tombs, imitate their past living lives when they wake, obsess over certain tasks to keep themselves occupied and other things, often only roused when ordered to by their superiors or whenever someone disturbs their tombs and plunder their treasures. The return of Sekra the Indomitable snapped them out of it and revitalized their resolve to restore their empire and remind the world of their glory and might.
Cryptan scribe-poet: Our Sun has set. Our gods now slumber, Our bodies are dust… and we are lost.
  • The Dreaded: Crypta was feared during the Third Age for their military might and world-conquering ambitions under High Queen Sekra, and they had come close on many occasions to dominating and ruling the world. Even when they are a pale shadow of their former glory in the Fourth Age they still manages to give the world a run for their money when they rebuilt as the Second Crypta Empire in the 'New Crypta Conquests'.
  • The Empire: Both the First and Second Crypta Empire were/are this trope, desiring to Take Over the World and frequently embarking on grand campaigns of outward conquest. Some of their rivals such as the Shadowpact Empire were also this.
  • Energy Weapon:
    • One example they possess comes in the form of Cryptan Sunbows, used by Cryptan 'Elite Skeleton Archers' which subverts the Annoying Arrows trope by being able to generate and fire solar plasma bolts vaguely shaped like arrows at enemies with the ability to cause considerable damage to infantry, vehicles and buildings, melting through many but the thickest or most insulating armours and materials as well as causing radiological damage from all the dissipating solar energy when used too extensively.
    • Their 'Blazing Sunbolt Throwers' and 'Cryptan Blast-Staves' are also implied to be each an Energy Weapon themselves, the former being based on Gou'uld Staff weapons.
    • The 'Raptah's Gaze' weapon placed on top of Cryptan Battle Ziggurats can fire a highly destructive solar beam which could destroy buildings, melt vehicles to slag and incinerate whole companies of infantry in one shot.
  • Golem: Or Living Statue, depending on their magical construction, but the Cryptans' Ushabti are large animated statues made in reminiscent to their deities which serve as guardian constructs and heavy weapons platforms.
  • Hegemonic Empire: Is this at their best, since while the Tomb Kings' authority is autocratic and strict, they also ensure the lands and peoples they conquered prospers under their rule. Many of their conquests were performed just as much through cultural/economic/magical/diplomatic domination as it is through over military conquest.
  • Hover Tank:
    • More like an APC, but the Cryptan Siege Barges skims across the sands and earth a few feet above carrying Cryptan soldiers, who can fire their weapons from it if they are ranged infantry or heavier weapons to provide substantial mobile fire-support.
    • Cryptan Battle Ziggurats, developed after the 'New Crypta Conquests', are a much closer to this concept on account of basically being Necron Monoliths if they were built by the Tomb Kings of Nehekhara (both of whom serve as inspiration for the Cryptans), bristling with magic-based firepower while still serving as a troop transport and mobile command center. It's more of an Ominous Floating Castle, though.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: According to Prince Caerulus Melodia, a Cryptan noble from Wesheb attacked a visiting Vicearch Iniquitious with his war-party when she requested to visit its Grand Library, arrogantly assuming that she's just another intruder seeking to plunder New Crypta of its riches. The thing is that New Crypta has a law permitting anyone to visit the Grand Library provided they have permission from the Tomb King ruling it, and offer a great tribute or fulfill a great task in return, and what the noble did to Iniquitous (attacking her unprovoked instead of simply granting her request) was in violation of said law. Not only were the attacking Cryptans utterly humiliated in the ensuing fight by Iniquitous, who saw this affront as an excuse to get what she wanted for free, but the Tomb King ruling Wesheb (who is vicariously responsible for his subordinate's actions) was punished by being forced to apologize to the Vicearch by High Queen Sekra, while the noble responsible for the entire mess out of arrogance was punished in turn via demotion.
  • Mummy: Like its inspiration, the ruins of the Cryptan Empire post-Third Age are populated and guarded by legions of these reanimated undead from all intruders and grave-robbers, armies of Pony, Anubian and Sun Cat skeletons that are her reanimated subjects and soldiers led by powerful mummified 'Tomb Kings' who commands them and rule in her name, still devoted to her despite the passing of Ages. In Daring Do's entry, whole ranks of mummies and skeletons rose from their graves to hold off the malicious intruders trying to get the 'Crown of the Crimson Sun', long enough for Daring Do to reach it and, upon donning it in desperation, allow their High Queen to return in all her glory.
  • Near-Villain Victory: Throughout the Third Age, the Old/First Crypta Empire had nearly succeeded in Taking Over The World many times and was often only stopped narrowly by the efforts of the heroic forces and kingdoms at the time. In the 'Fourth Age', they would try again with Sekra's return and was only halted, barely, by the world powers who fought them to a stalemate.
  • The Necrocracy: With the great curse turning virtually the entire Cryptan living population into Undead and forcing those already dead to return from the heavily-damaged afterlife at the end of the Third Age, New Crypta is effectively this, a 'Total Necrocracy' ruled over by the powerful Tomb Kings/Queens who stood guard and assumed stewardship over their High Queen's former domain until her resurrection in the Fourth Age. With Sekra's return and the 'New Crypta Conquests' that followed, it is now a 'Half-And-Half' type containing both living and dead subjects and rulers.
  • Never Smile at a Crocodile: The Petsebeks are a species of crocodiles divinely-modified by the Cryptan pantheon crocodile-headed god Sebek as part of an aborted uplift project. They are distinguished by their larger sizes and greater intelligence, haughty but regal personalities, bejeweled appearances (due to some of their scales being made of crystals) and a pair of horns growing on their heads. Said horns allow them to channel solar energies/magic their bodies absorb into a beam of concentrated sunlight which could blow up bunkers and incinerate whole ranks of soldiers in one sweeping blast. Their status as divinely-modified animals made them a status and religious symbols, while the magical properties of their bodies (from the durability of their scales to the luck-warding and fertility-inducing properties of their flesh) made their body parts highly-valued commodities. During the New Crypta Conquests and likely before in the Third Age, the Cryptans tamed many of them to serve as living weapons against those opposing their conquests, at least until they got more of their long-unused magical weapons and constructs back up and running.
  • Night of the Living Mooks: Being Mummified Undead, much of New Crypta's military might are presently this, with whole legions of skeletal warriors resurfacing from the sands led by commanders reemerging from their graves.
  • Noble Demon: As a whole, like many villains are implied to be in the 'Third Age', they were this, if slightly more hardcore than norm. The Cryptans are unapologetically imperialistic and autocratic, especially with High Queen Sekra at the helm, and believe themselves to be one of if not the greatest civilization in their time and thus deserve dominion over all lands. However, they do genuinely believe that the world would be much better off under the peace and prosperity of their fair if firm rule, and nothing suggests from the magic at their command to their efforts in hammering down and sealing away monsters and villains that they don't mean it. Many of them are honourable as they are haughty and could even come off as heroic, highly respectful of those whom they consider a Worthy Opponent and relishing the chance to challenge and fight heroes who stand against them. They also frowned upon evils and villainy that even they find abhorrent, harshly punishing even their own kind who committed terrible transgressions.
  • Noblesse Oblige: Believe their civilization to be the pinnacle of cultural, economic, military and sorcerous advancement in the 'Third Age' (which, while arrogant, is no mere boast), and because of this they believe they have an obligation to spread their rule to the entire world so everyone could live in peace and prosperity as they do.
  • An Offer You Can't Refuse: They would send emissaries to realms they wish to conquer and try and convince their rulers that it is better to submit to their firm if fair rule. While many do submit, awed by their prosperity and cowed by their power, the Cryptans makes it clear that they don't take no for an answer and will resort to military force if diplomacy fails. Their armies are usually only days, if not hours away from the arrival of their emissaries.
  • Ominous Floating Castle: Ominous Floating Pyramid, in this case. The Crypta entries repeatedly mentions the existence of certain 'War Pyramids' which serve as aerial battleships of Crypta in the same vein as the smaller Pyramid ships of the Goa'uld from Stargate. Then there's the Cryptan Battle Ziggurats, which acts more like an enormous Hover Tank of enchanted stone and metal brimming with weapons that looked like Necron Monoliths if they were built by the Tomb Kings of Nehekhara.
  • Proud Warrior Race: Implied. The Cryptans are up for military conquest of the world where cultural, economic and magical hegemony fails, and as such have a martial culture to match. While still antagonistic and villainous though, due to the general Third Age morality
    • In one notable example during the New Crypta Conquests, many Scorpitaur tribes managed to resist the Second Cryptan Empire's conquests for a time under the leadership of a Warchieftain/Khan, which impressed Sekra and the Tomb Royals enough for them to negotiate with them for integration into Crypta as honored vessels. They agreed, but only on the condition that an honour duel is conducted between them so that the Scorpitaur tribes would at least have one last gesture of defiance to appease their pride and go out with a measure of dignity. At this, Sekra demonstrated the Cryptans' own character as honourable warlords by declining to personally duel with the Warchieftain, not out of cowardice or contempt for them but because it wouldn't be fair, as neither she nor her Tomb Kings and Queens would even consider disrespecting them by not fighting at their best, and being a goddess (and demigods in the Tomb Royals' case) she would easily crush the Warchieftian/Khan in a duel. They agreed to have their mortal/Undead champions fight in their steads so to give the Scorpitaur a chance to actually win the honour duel (instead of a Foregone Conclusion like even the Scorpitaur had initially thought it would be). This had made the Scorpitaurs even more impressed with the Cryptans then they already are and they eagerly joined them in their later conquests, winning much glory and greatness.
  • Pyramid Power: Given the Egyptian and Mesopotamian inspirations of the franchises the setting and characters of Crypta are based on, pyramids pop up a lot, whether actual bonafide pyramids or pyramid-like structures like ziggurats who were their predecessors. And yes, they do have all sorts of powers imbued into them thanks to the fantastical magic that exists in the 'Third Age'. And they built them big too - In a 'Tales of Equestria' entry, it is revealed that High Queen Sekra's own palatial pyramid complex at the height of the First Crypta Empire rivals Canterlot in size - as in, both the city and the mountain it is on.
  • Resurrective Immortality: Due to the nature of their undeath, some of the more powerful Cryptans cannot be permanently killed, and any death outside black sands of Crypta would only see them magically reappear and restored within the lands shrouded the Eternal Sandstorm.
  • Silly Reason for War: An ongoing feud/conflict rages between a Tomb King of Crypta with a Diamond Dog Underhold in Diamondia over an anvil inlet with a coin stolen from Crypta, since the Cryptans absolutely will not allow any of their treasures to leave their lands, while that particular Underhold had a stingy and grudge bearing culture to rival the old Duradin and absolutely will not allow their crafts to be taken by the unworthy. Since the feud/conflict started the anvil had changed sides countless times as their forces had raided and battled each other over it. Even in-universe some like Prince Forging Scales considers this as silly as it sounds.
  • Taking Over The World: A major shtick of the Cryptans and a reason why they are villains - believing themselves to be the greatest civilization of the world during the 'Third Age' (And afterwards) - a pinnacle of cultural, economic, military and sorcerous advancement - they believe they have a right and obligation to conquer the world so that every land and peoples can share the same prosperity as they had. From what we know so far, they do genuinely believe in their cause and act as such, and from how many times they nearly succeeded in their ambitions they demonstrate they do live up to their cred and do have the capability of potentially pulling it off.
  • Total Eclipse of the Plot: During the New Crypta Conquests, Tomb King Alkabazaar the Conqueror leading the Anubian Campaign ordered one invoked with the casting of the epic 'Eclipse of Baasteth' spell at the Battle of Pylon Pass. This created a magical eclipse of the Sun which not only blot out all sunlight over the battlefield and nearby regions, but also magically disrupted and blot out the magic and divine powers being channelled by the battle-mages and demigods opposing them at the battle, rendering them temporarily powerless, while simultaneously enhancing the spellcasters, constructs and monsters the Cryptans had deployed in battle. This swung the stalemated battle in their favour and allowed the pass to be captured by the Cryptans.
  • Try to Fit That on a Business Card: Cryptan culture places a lot of emphasis on glorious deeds, and they record them in various titles which grows in length as they accumulate, a practice known collectively as the "Lists of Glories". Among the Tomb Kings/Queens especially, these lists could grow very elaborate and are divided into further categories. "Naming Glory" are single titles which closely associate with the individual’s identity, known as much as their name and among the earliest granted. Adding onto that are "List of Prized Glories", which concerns the most crowning deeds and accomplishments, and the "List of All Glories" is basically all the Lists combined plus declarations of other things like bloodlines and famous ancestors (and presumably their deeds). It's considered a mark of achievement, maturity and notability if a Tomb King/Queen's "List of Prized Glories" alone takes more than a hour to recite. This is Serious Business enough for the Cryptans that Tomb Kings/Queens will even pause battles to read them out to their foes if they were audacious/stupid enough to call them out on who they think they are - and to their detriment forced to spend hours hearing all of it.
  • Undying Loyalty: Literally so post-Undeath. Devotion to your liege and land is valued highly in Crypta, and all of Crypta is so loyal to Sekra the Indomitable, her mere resurrection and reappearance is enough trigger Crypta's restoration, with the entire empire practically roaring back to life and embark on a new age of conquest under her leadership after spending millennia in a state of ennui and stagnation.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Believe the world will prosper under their rule and believe they have an obligation to take it over because of it.
  • The Worf Effect:
    • On the receiving end of this in a Noodle Incident: During their long dormancy from the end of the Third Age, an avatar of Vicearch Iniquitous of Malregar appeared without warning one day within the Eternal Sandstorm and made Her way to the ruined city of Wesheb, seeking to enter the 'Grand Library of Wesheb' and pour over its lore and secret of magic and other subjects for Her own research. Despite Her avatar only possessing a small fraction of Her full dark glory, She still brushed aside all Cryptan attempts to stop Her from reaching Wesheb and getting into the library, then locked it down to study in peace while whole legions of Undead Cryptans warriors led by the Tomb Royals laid siege to it, only to be prevented from intrusion by Her wards and barriers which confounded even the Lich-Priests and other magos of Crypta as well as no less than seven Tomb Kings and Queens whom She took control via their vices together with their legions to hold them off. By the time Tomb King Necraaiqed unraveled Her sorcery and the Guardians of the Sand freed the dominated Tomb Royals and their forces from Her thrall, allowing the Cryptans to confront Her inside the library (with Necraaiqed and the Guardians of the Sand backed up by no less than TEN Tomb Kings and Queens with their elite warriors while led by Jusesh the Black and Merew stood watch outside with TWENTY more Tomb Royals and hundreds of thousands of Cryptan warriors as backup), She had already studied all She wanted and left without further conflict or taking anything else.
      • And the best part is that Cryptans could do nothing about it except to fume afterwards thanks to Vicearch Iniquitous rule-lawyering Her way out of trouble using their own rules of conduct and codes of honour. The Cryptans were supposed to allow anyone, apparently even outsiders, a chance to access the Grand Library's lore provided the Tomb Royal ruling Wesheb permits it and they pass the Cryptans' tests or pay a proportional tribute, yet the Cryptans She encountered to apparently didn't even give Her a chance - attacking Her unprovoked before She barely even explained Herself and formally request access - a violation of Sacred Hospitality which She interpreted as an excuse to get what She wants for free (with a Cryptan precedent allowing Her to do so). Even High Queen Sekra agreed the whole incident was dishonourable more from the Cryptans' end than Hers (Iniquitous was acting partly in self-defense), and had no choice but to make the Tomb King ruling Wesheb apologize to Her for it upon Sekra's return in the 'New Crypta Conquests', as well as demote the idiot Cryptan noble responsible for the mess as punishment.

Cryptan Pantheon

    General
  • Civil War: Raptah's poisoning and incapacitation triggered a chain of events that led to a three-sided civil war between Pethemet and Raptah's faction, Ausaris and Anubis' faction and a third 'independent' bloc composed of everyone else.
  • Older Than They Look: Many members of the Cryptan Pantheon were actually around as early as the Second Age. However, because of the lack of magic at the time, they appear little more than wraiths whose presence and ethereal existence influenced the Ancient Neighyptians' religion and mythology. They only finally and fully become physical divines during the Third Age when magic returned in abundance, after which they were befriended and rallied by Raptah.
  • Timey-Wimey Ball: One of these is suspected regarding events and stories surrounding them, since record of their existence and their myths had existed as early as the 'Second Age', yet they only manifested fully at the dawn of the 'Third Age' and the events recorded in legends only then took place.

Sekra the Indomitable, High Queen of Crypta

Classification: ???/Ascendant

Portfolio: TBA

Rank: Divine (Tier IV/Greater)

"Sekra does NOT yield! SEKRA REIGNS!"

Sekra the Indomitable is the god-queen of Hatshetpsutra and the co-founder of the Empire of Crypta, one of the many civilizations that rose and fell during the fantastically magical Third Age of Known History. Powerful, haughty and domineering, but also fair, honourable and wise, Sekra is widely considered one of the greatest conquerors to ever lived, feared by all who stood in the way of her unquenchable lust for conquest, yet also beloved by those who lived contently under her capable if iron-hoofed reign in her indisputable dedication to rule well.

While the Third Age had ended and her empire had fallen along with the rest, Sekra had survived, her mind and form sealed and dormant inside her own 'Crown of the Crimson Sun', her realm isolated from the rest of the world by an ever-lasting sandstorm and guarded by legions of her mummified Tomb Kings and subjects, loyal to her unto death and even undeath. Now, thanks to the unwitting aid of Daring Do, she had returned to the land of the living, and is setting forth to restore her lands to its former glory, wealth and power, and rise greater still in a new campaign of world-spanning conquest...
  • The Ace: Was considered the 'Third Age' equivalent of 'Second Age' OVERMARE and shows it very well, being an unparalleled warrior, a brilliant strategist, a capable empire-builder and a powerful magic-user. She also, unlike her inspiration, achieved true immortality through godhood. She reunified the Cryptan pantheons and lands, built an empire which stood at the pinnacle of Third Age civilizations, nearly took over the world multiple times, and then did it all over again when she got back in the Fourth Age.
  • Ambition Is Evil: Downplayed, but like her inspiration, the haughty Sekra was born with and grew up developing an unquenchable quest for immortality, glory and conquest. However, given her Noble Demon disposition like many villains of the Third Age, she married these villainous impulses with dedication to rule well and spreading the same peace, prosperity and power Crypta enjoys to the whole world, making her similar to her oft-compared predecessor Overmare and the more evil Iniquitous with their ambitions for the world/their homelands.
  • Arch-Enemy: Has at least two during the Third Age, both of whom survived the Age's end and returned in modern times to stop/challenge her again.
    • Among the forces of Evil and Villainous, Overlord Vondur and the Shadowpact Empire was once a major rival to her and her First Crypta Empire, the feelings of which are mutual. Having survived into the Fourth Age at a much reduced state, and implied to be stuck in an unmotivated rut up until that point, no sooner had he heard that Sekra and Crypta had returned, he immediately got to work getting his empire up and running so he can fight her once more.
    • Among the forces of Good and Heroic, Sekra has Lady Kimono of Third Age Ponyville, a mare so wise and knowledgeable she is widely considered to be the smartest Pony of the Third Age and potentially a descendant of Silversmith, the World's Smartest Pony of the Second Age. While their relationship had been compared to being similar to that of Silversmith with Overmare, it's noted that she is more a Friendly Enemy to Sekra and vice-versa, having both earned their mutual respect. Having ascended to godhood, survived the Third Age's end and been an advisor/mentor to the modern Shinseina Pantheon of 'Fourth Age' Neighpon, Sekra was delighted to see her - now Princess Kouyou, the Maiden of Autumn - and the other Third Age heroes/deities returned to face her during the 'New Crypta Conquests' and wasted no time resuming their interrupted 'game of wits' with each other. Her respect and friendliness with Kouyou is best demonstrated when Sekra proposed without hesitation an Enemy Mine alliance against Misletoe Dreamer, the most evil being of the Third Age, when she made her return in the Fourth Age.
  • Badass Boast: See entry quote above, which is an explicit Shout-Out to who she is based on. She makes a lot of these in general.
"In our Age, realms far and wide trembled at our might, and even gods had bowed before me."
"Those who would still stand against us then shall fall, and know before my majesty, they are unworthy!"
"I am Sekra the Indomitable, Queen of Queens, Destined Ruler of All Lands; and to us, the world shall yield, and we shall REIGN!"
  • Berserk Button:
    • As a matter of principle, the haughty High Queen of Crypta will not stand for any-pony trying to impose their will on her. Needless to say, she is NOT happy when she returned to find multiple malicious parties - including Clovenists, Autorists, Tribalists, Unseelie Changelings, Hydianites, Thraceans and other hostile factions - transgressing the ruins of her empire, trying to steal her crown and bend her power for their own uses. When she said she does not yield - SHE REIGNS! - she bloody MEAN it.
    • She also does not like thieves, nor like being compared to one. The former is a trait she shares with all her Tomb Kings in Crypta, seeing her reaction to various hostile groups trying to get her crown on the day she resurrected, while the latter is revealed in a Drabble set during the 'New Crypta Conquests' to be something she takes offense at, implicitly shown to see it as beneath a conqueror and god-queen like her.
    • Don't you dare - EVER - to threaten her son and heir Raptah, the Sun of Crypta. A bunch of raiders somehow managing to penetrate Cryptan lands deep enough to steal his Blade of the Twiceborn Sun containing his sleeping essence was enough to set Sekra and Crypta as a whole on a warpath to get it back and punish the miscreant fools who dared such a grave insult/transgression.
  • Big Entrance: As revealed in a drabble, some time after her return in the Fourth Age and the 'New Crypta Conquests', she decided to honour a semi-sincere invitation by Rarity Belle - who together with her friends the Friendship Council had been one of the heroic forces who managed to stall Sekra's empire-building - to visit Ponyville and Equestria on a diplomatic tour. In contrast to the low-key preference of her co-soul Daring Do who recommended she take up the offer, her grand entrance to Equestria is as overt as one befitting Sekra's ego, involving a massive parade with ranks after marching ranks of warriors, dozen groups of dancers and performers, floats displaying the glories of Sekra and Crypta old and new, and last but not least, Sekra herself coming in riding upon a giant magically-levitating stone sphinx towed by hundreds of her Mummy subjects. It's mentioned that it took three of her giant arcane flying 'War Pyramids' just to carry it all, and they joined in on the parade too. Rarity Belle, who was put in charge of organizing the visit, was both impressed and flaggastered by the sheer amount of spectacular pomp Sekra put into the whole thing, but the indomitable god-queen of Crypta insisted it's necessary.
Sekra the Indomitable: [To Rarity Belle] As we had told your distant ancestor Princess Rarity millennia ago, Sekra the Indomitable cannot just WALK into any land or realm.
    • All of this is a massive reference to Cleopatra. It had also been observed that it resembles a less villainous version of Ainz’s entrance into the Lizardman village in Overlord.
  • Born in the Wrong Century: Carries vibes of this, owing to being an haughty, warmongering, power-hungry tyrant (albeit with a Well-Intentioned Extremist Noble Demon disposition) in the more moral, innocent and benevolent Third Age. She would have fit in a lot better had she been born in the First, Second or Fourth Ages, but she still manage to do remarkably well and leave a mark as one of the greatest challenges to the heroic individuals and realms of the Third Age, and one of the greatest conquerors and rulers in the Ages of Known History.
  • Captain Ersatz: She's based on Settra the Imperishable, one of the most powerful and mightiest rulers to grace the realm of Nehekhara. While Sekra has Settra's ruthlessness, power-hungry ambitions, and indomitable strength of will, she's a bonafide goddess who sealed herself away within her own crown following a disaster that ruined the first Crypta. She would emerge again in the Fourth Age after a desperate Daring Do/A.K. Yearling donned her crown to prevent malevolent forces from retrieving it, allowing Sekra to reincarnate using Daring Do as her host. She did have an honor code prior to this, but the fusion of souls with Daring Do led her to becoming more receptive to peaceful options than she was before.
    • Nevermore-813 has also stated for the record that Sekra can also be considered to be Third Age's equivalent of Overmare.
  • Catchphrase: "Sekra does NOT yield! SEKRA REIGNS!"
  • The Conqueror: Widely considered one of the greatest conquerors and empire-builders to ever live and likely the greatest during the Third Age, desiring to make the world yield to her reign while as a matter of principle never yield to the will and reign of any other. If some of the drabbles are any indication, no sooner had she came back in the Fourth Age, she embarked upon what became known as the 'New Crypta Conquests' that ended up reestablishing her dominion on Equus as the New/Second Crypta Empire, and its expansion was barely stopped (for the time being) by a united front of world powers and heroic forces. Rather unsurprising, considering who she is based on.
  • Dawn of an Era: Was present to proclaim this on the two occasions she founded/re-founded the Cryptan Empire, declaring a new era of unity, prosperity and glory from the division, ruination and ignominy of the past.
Sekra: Just as the Sun shall rise once more every morrow, so had Crypta rose from the ashes of adversity and returned to glory! May it stand now, and forever: THE EMPIRE OF CRYPTA!
  • Deity Of Mortal Origin: Was originally mortal, but in contrast to her inspiration Settra achieved true immortality through ascending into godhood, becoming an Alicorn with a softly-glowing immaculate golden body, eyes with blazing pupils, a sable mane and tail with golden highlights that flowed like black ink, wearing intricate tattoos of elaborate hieroglyphic symbols and patterns on her wings as well as beautiful royal garments and war-barding royals made of enchanted gold and fine silk.
  • Determinator: She is well-known for being virtually impossible to break psychologically, possessing an indomitable willpower like Overmare does. During her time while still mortal bearing Crypta's sun god in her womb (it's complicated), which put her in unspeakably atrocious agony for months as the divine power she bore within her constantly threatened to rip her apart, she adamantly, absolutely refused to break, mentally or physically, determined to not fail the gods who had charged her with the great task and not die before she could go out to achieve conquest and immortality. This earned her her godhood.
    • Upon her return and learning just how low Crypta had fallen, Sekra barely experienced a Villainous BSoD; instead, she got absolutely pissed about the situation and vowing to restore Crypta to its former glory and then take it to greater heights then ever before, kick-starting the 'New Crypta Conquests'.
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: On the even of the New Crypta Conquests, Sekra took on the force of nature that is the Eternal Sandstorm, which turned out to have a will of its own, and managed to not only defy its wrath with her power and will, but actually tame it, sending it reeling with her might and authority, then getting its allegiance through sheer force of personality, reminding it of Crypta's past greatness which it, being made from the land, was once part of and promising to restore Crypta and make it even greater if it calms down and let Crypta's armies pass through. It accepts the offer, and as part of the bond and compact between them, lend some of its power for Sekra to use, adding parts of itself remolded by Sekra's power as resplendently-designed enchanted glass to her armour and regalia.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: Can command the black sands of her land to rise up and literally erode away her enemies, stripping them down to their bones.
  • The Dreaded: Is the founder, ruler and goddess of a powerful empire with ambitions to Take Over the World, has enough cred to actually pull it off and did nearly pulled it off. While more mild by Fourth Age standards, her disposition make her come off as a power-hungry tyrannical conqueror. It was no wonder that everyone in the Third Age was afraid of her, apart from some of her rivals and archenemies with similar cred such as Overlord Vondur of the Shadowpact Empire.
  • Establishing Character Moment: It begins the moment her resurrection is completed, starting with her stating her contempt to the malicious and hostile factions fighting over her crown in her tomb/palace, condemning them all as nothing but petty plunderers for trying to pillage her tomb/palace and realm. Then, declaring that she will teach them all 'the same lesson she taught the previous Age' for daring to presume they could make HER yield, she casually transformed Daring Do's dropped whip into a divine weapon worthy of her power with her magic (And afterwards into a living golden serpent), before dishing out a Curbstomp Battle that annihilated nearly every intruder present in a matter of minutes. Afterwards she would sit upon her throne and made clear to her loyal resurrected Tomb Kings and mummified subjects her intention to restore her lands to glory and get straight back to business of world-spanning conquest. Mares and gentlecolt: Sekra the Indomitable.
Intruders… Thieves... That is what you all are. You all came here to steal my power. You all came here to force me to yield to your will. I taught the last Age a lesson, and now it seems I must teach this Age the same one...

Sekra does NOT yield! [Charges up weapon and powers] SEKRA REIGNS!
  • Enemy Mine: She had allied with the heroic forces that opposed her conquests or villainous forces who had competed with her for domination against even worst threats, such as the Oceanaiads and Mistletoe Dreamer. Mistletoe Dreamer was apparently such a threat that Sekra allied with her Worthy Opponent Arch-Enemy Princess Kouyou without dropping a beat to stop her, as they had in the past.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Being from the Third Age, she's relatively benign as far as an Evil Overlord goes, being fairly noble and having many lines she won't cross.
    • Even she is unnerved by Mistletoe Dreamer, a Third Age villainous known as the most evil being in the Third Age. Given what Dreamer does upon returning, there's good reason for that. To note: When Mistletoe Dreamer made her grand reappearance in a diplomatic conference before a shocked Princess Kouyou and others, Sekra, who also attended, immediately tried to flat-out INCINERATE her with The Power of the Sun and proposed an alliance with her Arch-Enemy Kouyou without hesitation.
    • She considers using "Judicial Replacements" - magical, sapient golems created only to serve as The Scapegoat for those trying to weasel out of due punishments - to be utterly abhorrent. When the practice spread and made itself known in Old Crypta during the Third Age, she was massively displeased, and proceeded to pass draconic laws to discourage said practice.
    • Sekra agrees to help Daring Do defeat one of the Wondrous Adventurer's more persistent foe in King Golden City during the 'Terra Equus Continental War'. While Sekra intends to secure the Third Age 'Heart of Oro' artifact which made King Golden City immortal and powerful for her own world-conquering ambitions, she also genuinely detests him as a morally-atrocious being and an unworthy conqueror that must be defeated, calling him out as much for it. She even lets Daring Do re-assume control of their body and her original mortal form so she could defeat him in what would be their Final Battle after the Heart was stolen by Rainbow Dash and he was reduced to a mortal if still powerful warlock.
    • On a more humorous note, even Sekra cannot stand Count Perpetual Annoyance when he swung by the newly-restored Crypta Empire and went on a 'campaign of irritation' against the recently returned Tomb Kings/Queens. After even their 'Third Age' magicks and armies failed repeatedly to shut him up permanently, an incredibly frustrated Sekra decided to do the next best thing and ordered him banished to her rival Overlord Vondur's Shadowpact Empire, hoping the annoying Count would meet his end at Vondur, or at least make Vondur's life miserable for a time.
  • God Empress: Is the god-queen of Hatshetpsutra and founder and ruler of the Empire of Crypta, an ancient civilization from the Third Age of Known History.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Sekra acted defensively at being considered vain, haughty and egotistical, saying that she merely have a 'firm grasp' of her abilities and achievements. Then Daring Do cheekily pointed out all the fifty-meters-plus statues all over Crypta and beyond she found dedicated to Sekra's own glory and asks her if they count. Sekra ended up struggling to argue that they don't.
Sekra the Indomitable: They call me vain, haughty… egotistical. But I, Sekra, merely have a firm grasp of my abilities and my achievements.
Daring Do: And all those giant 50 meters plus statues I find all over Crypta and beyond dedicated to your own glory don’t count?
Sekra the Indomitable: Those… are beside the point.
  • The Magnificent: Called 'The Indomitable', being a conquering overlord who made all others yield to her reign, while refusing to yield to the will of any other. Given who she is based on, it's unlikely the only grandiose title she has and the full list would likely take hours to read out.
    • Correction: As the Clovenists found out in one battle, it took NINE DAYS. They immensely regretted asking for it.
    • Among many confirmed so far: The 'Queen of Queens', the 'Second Mother of Crypta's Sun', the 'Destined Ruler of All Lands', the 'Jewel of the Red Ascension', the 'Conqueror of Celerity', the 'Reunifier', the 'Restorer of Ma’at', the 'Reconciler of the Gods', the 'Imperishable Imperatrix'...
  • Mama Bear: To her son and heir Raptah, the Sun of Crypta. When his Blade of the Twiceborn Sun was stolen from Cryptan lands by a mysterious incursion force, Sekra became enraged by this insult to the point she have her Tomb Kings/Queens and subjects both undying and living seek it and its plunderers out across the world, and even approached her former opponents among the heroes and nations who stood against her and Crypta during the 'New Crypta Conquest' to seek their hel - Err, that is, 'recruit them to their righteous cause' in their punitive/search campaign. As soon as the sword and its plunderers are found she set off with a sizeable Cryptan force to lay siege to the stronghold they are hiding with the blade alongside additional Equestrian and Hippogriff forces. This is entirely understandable when one considers the fact that her son was actually sealed inside the sword at the time, having like his mother and other gods of Crypta lost their physical forms during the calamitous end of the Third Age and had been laying dormant, waiting for someone to pick up the sword and allow him to reincarnate back into the world through the wielder.
  • Near-Villain Victory:
    • Sekra was compared with Overmare of the Second Age for a VERY good reason, as she along with Crypta had came VERY close to Taking Over The World multiple times and was often only narrowly defeated and pushed back by the heroic forces of the 'Third Age'. It is noted that upon her return in the 'Fourth Age' and her subsequent 'New Crypta Conquests', her campaigns and that of her Tomb Kings/Queens' were only halted by a massive international effort, and even then only barely, allowing her to retain a new dominion to consolidate upon and still free to continue where she left off if she and her Tomb Kings/Queens so desires.
    • While even Sekra thought it was a very close-run thing and praised them for their efforts, Sekra the Indomitable decisively defeated the Council of Friendship in their first engagement and was one Coup de Grâce away from finishing them off. Had Daring Do did not reawaken in that moment and resisted Sekra long enough by sheer force of will, Princess Amicitia and her friends would not had been able to escape. Not to mention, the Cryptan forces also decisively defeated the coalition armies which fought them concurrently in the same battle, overrunning them on all fronts and forcing them into a general retreat.
  • New Era Speech: Made one upon her resurrection to her loyal mummified Tomb Kings and subjects, after thoroughly disposing the myriad malicious/hostile factions who dared to intruder her tomb/home and realm to steal her crown and power.
Sekra the Indomitable: [Upon her resurrection] Rejoice, my loyal subjects, for at long last, your High Queen has returned. Spread news of my coming - I want to know how my realm has changed. Then, we shall see how to go about rebuilding it to its former glory. So swear Sekra the Indomitable... And let NONE oppose my WILL!
  • Noble Demon: In many ways, Sekra is representative of the overall nobility, morality and compassion that exemplified the Third Age, wishing the best for her subjects and devoted to bringing peace and prosperity to her empire (and through her empire, the world), marrying the betterment of Crypta to her own pursuit of glory, immortality and conquest. She also show many noble traits such as piety (while mortal) and respect (post-apotheosis) for the gods, avoid unnecessary cruelty (except to those who absolutely deserve it), upholding a strict code of honour, and relishing challenges against her and challenging honourable heroes who stood in her way. While she would be considered a dreaded, power-hungry tyrannical conqueror by Third Age standards, by modern 'Fourth Age' standards she comes off as only mildly-despotic or even a relatively-benevolent autocrat. [WIP]
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: She, like many other more dangerous and dreaded characters of the setting, does not fool around when the situation calls for dealing with enemies - especially those who had pressed her Berserk Button and royally pissed her off. If you cross her, you are going down, HARD.
    • Mistletoe Dreamer, widely considered the evilest being of the Third Age, appeared in an international diplomatic conference to declare her return to life and villainy. Sekra, who also attended the conference, responded by immediately trying to flat-out kill her - No grandiose boasts, no fiery condemnation, no haughty defiance, just a blazing sunbeam set to incinerate. When that failed, she immediately allies with her Arch-Enemy Princess Kouyou to take her down. This highlights both how dangerous Mistletoe Dreamer is and how much Sekra the Indomitable herself detests the psychopathic villainess.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: She herself note that fundamentally she and her host Daring Do shares many similarities, and cites this as a reason why she admires and respects her, as well as how she was able to get into a Symbiotic Possession with her and resurrect when she donned Sekra's crown.
  • Only Mostly Dead: Apparently 'died' at the end of the Third Age, in the sense that her physical form was destroyed along with her empire. However, owing to the fact the gods of the Codexverse are incredibly hard to kill, she did in fact survive in a fashion by having her de-materialized and dormant form sealed away in her own Crown, waiting for some-pony worthy to wear the crown and allow her to return to the world of the living. That some-pony turned out to be Daring Do.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: When Mistletoe Dreamer returns, Sekra instantly tries to incinerate her with a sun beam with zero theatrics. This is understandable as unlike most other villains of that era, Mistletoe Dreamer is evil enough to earn Sekra's utter ire while dangerous enough for Sekra to take her completely seriously as a threat.
  • Pest Controller: Can command swarms of golden scarabs to eat her enemies alive, as the Hydianites and Thraceans unfortunately learned.
  • The Power of the Sun: Could unleash blinding and searing solar rays and fires from both her body and through her weapons to absolutely devastating effect.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech:
    • High Queen Sekra delivered one to People's Empress Zora Kalakov of the Cloven Empire when the People's Empire and the Tomb Kings/Queens mutually declared their hostility to one another, the former seeing the latter as a group of tyrants. The Cloven Empire threatening to overthrow her reign aside, Sekra disparages the People's Empress and her empire's ideals as foolish in trying to uphold and fulfill the dreams and desires its many subjects - not all of which are scrupulous and to the greater good of the Empire - instead of unifying them together around a single authority, will and goal like she does, and considers it an abomination held together by lies and propaganda which is doomed to crumble. Only time will tell who is right about the other.
    • Sekra also called out King Golden City, one of Daring Do's foes, for being an unworthy conqueror, declaring his conquests and reputation paltry compare to her illustrious record, but more importantly for being a mass-murdering plunderer who ruined the lands and civilizations which he conquered and tyrannically cowered those he subjugated into obedience, where true conquerors like her would had build up the places and lives of the conquered better and greater than ever before (in their image, of course), and in doing so earn true loyalty and ruling legitimacy in the eyes of their new subjects. All this to Sekra makes Golden City little more than a pretentious barbaric despoiler that deserves to be overthrown, and she vow she would cast him down.
High Queen Sekra: A true conqueror do not just destroy and dominate all who stand in their way - From the ashes of their foes' defeat they create a new, better order! A true ruler raise their new domains to greater heights, acknowledging her new subjects worth - and thereby justifying their conquest and reign! But you - you had done nothing more than slaughtering and plundering all in your way to establish your twisted glory, a barbaric despoiler with delusions of a god-king!
King Golden City: How dare you... I am - !
High Queen Sekra: I DARE, miscreant warlock! FOR I AM SEKRA THE INDOMITABLE! While you had bullied a few scant fiefs into submission, I had humbled pantheons and brought the world entire under my rule, time and time again! Where you had terrorized and usurped through two petty reigns, I had ruled and upheld an order lasting ages! Where you were feared and obeyed, I was adored and worshipped! While a worthy mortal had cast down your false veil of godhood, I had risen and earned my true divine sovereignty! You are nothing compare to I, you pretentious little fool, and you shall pretend no longer! So swear Sekra - LET NONE DARE DEFY MY WILL!
  • Red Baron: Called the 'Indomitable Heart of Crypta', and that's just one title in her ridiculously long list of other titles and 'glories'.
  • The Rival: Was apparently one to Vondur, Overlord of the Shadowpact Empire according to Nevermore813, the feelings of which are mutual. Having survived with his empire at a much reduced state well into the Fourth Age, no sooner had he heard his old rival Sekra had returned, Vondur immediately went straight to work getting his empire up and running again to its former power and menace so he could fight her again.
  • Rousing Speech: A highlight of her charismatic, grandiose and dominating character, she gives plenty of these.
    • No sooner had she returned in physical form she gave one to her assembled Tomb Kings, warriors and subjects (based on and a Shout-Out to the proclamation inscribed on her inspiration's obelisk making similar promises). And There Was Much Rejoicing from the Cryptans.

Sekra the Indomitable: Hail to you, my loyal subjects - you who now stand before me, you who stood watch over me, you who had waited while I slumbered - for I, Sekra of Hapshetsutra, High Queen of Crypta, have at last reawakened to command you in this new world that now awaits us.

Hail to the Tomb Kings and Queens who stood loyal, proud and true to their lands, their oaths and their gods. Hail to the commanders of my armies, returning from your graves to join me in restoring Crypta's dominion. Hail to the warriors of my legions, rising from the sands once more to form unyielding ranks; make ready your weapons for war and to fill the air with the sound of your adoration. Your standards are pleasing to my sight and that of the Divines. See how the light of the blazing Sun shines upon them.

Remember them gleaming this day, for soon we would march towards distant lands and raise them before those who would stand against us. Fear not what we must do, for we are the glory of Crypta, and we shall rise again to reclaim our greatness and fulfill our manifest destiny to rule over all lands.

There are work that remains undone, foes yet to vanquish and triumphs yet to come. So it was promised... now, it shall be done. I, SEKRA, have proclaimed it... AND LET NONE DARE OPPOSE MY WILL!

    • She gives another one just before Cryptan and allied forces are about to assault a stronghold where the 'Blade of the Twiceborn Sun', containing the sleeping, dormant essence of her son Raptah, is being held and those who stole it are cornered.

Sekra the Indomitable: Today, we once again march against fools who dare to stand against Crypta! Behind these walls hide craven despoilers who had trespassed our lands, plundering our temples and tombs with their unworthy claws and hooves! By those miscreant deeds alone, they deserve punishment, but they in their unthinkable hubris had dared to take their sacrilege one step beyond, stealing the Blade which rightfully belong to my son and heir Raptah, the Sun of Crypta!

For their crimes, I, Sekra, Queen of Queens, Second Mother of Crypta’s Sun, the Indomitable Heart of Crypta, Destined Ruler of All Lands, decree their complete and utter destruction! Today, I lead in person my loyal, undying legions to war, so that I may protect not just the honour of Prince of Crypta, but rescue his power from their defiling grasp! Together with living allies who in their honour had rallied to our righteous cause, we shall see whatever treacherous schemes they intend undone, and dispatch their pitiful souls to the underworlds where they belong!

Look east, my warriors; the first light of day appears! Just as I, Sekra, and Crypta had risen from the sands, so too our Sun shall return and rise once more from the horizon! Forward, my legions! So I have spoken — LET NONE DARE DEFY MY WILL!

  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Whether in war, diplomacy or administration, Sekra often lead from the front when not delegating it to a subordinate Tomb Royal, general, priest or advisor, commanding her legions in expansionist conquest and personally exalting her subjects to new heights of achievement and effort. She personally oversaw much of the restoration of Crypta herself after her return, and her efforts at tackling the worst problems herself and encouraging/pushing her subjects to handle the rest allowed her empire which had been wallowing in stagnant ennui for millennia to roar back to life in a matter of months.
  • Scary Scorpions: Has a giant Tomb Scorpion - which are size of dragons on average - named Merew as a pet. Merew had been at her side for nearly her entire life, and her apotheosis ensured that he would become an immortal and even more powerful Divine Animal with her blessings.
  • Shrouded in Myth: Sekra the Indomitable's accomplishments and that of Crypta as a whole were legendary back in the Third Age, and even in the Fourth Age she is remembered for many conquests and deeds vaguely recalled or mentioned in annuls.
  • Snake Whip: When not using her whip, she transforms it into a living, golden pet serpent of impressive length wrapped affectionately around her neck and chest.
  • Symbiotic Possession: How she came back from physical death: possessing the body of Daring Do when the adventure-archaeologist put on her crown in desperation for the power to prevail over the other hostile factions trying to get it for themselves. True to form, the first thing she did — aside from transfiguring Daring Do's body into a fully-grown divine Alicorn form — is to annihilate all the other intruders with her power.
  • Time Abyss: Had been around since the early Third Age, nigh-on tens of thousands of years, though she spent much of the Fourth sealed and dormant inside her Crown.
  • Try to Fit That on a Business Card: While the Cryptans' "List of Glories" practice is already impressive with the various Tomb Kings/Queens, it is exaggerated with Sekra the Indomitable, who like her inspiration Settra the Imperishable has a very, VERY, VERY long list of titles, and thanks to her divine immortality it is even longer. It is said that her List of All Glories, when compiled, consisted of "over a hundred thousand different titles and takes up one of Crypta’s largest singular tomes". Imagine having upwards ten thousand years or so to get just about every achievement you could in that time period, and you may begin to appreciate just how ridiculously long it is by this point.
    • This is Played for Laughs during one of the 'Clovenist-Cryptan Wars' that erupted after the 'New Crypta Conquests', when one of the Clovenist legionnaires in a stronghold being assaulted by the Cryptans made the mistake of goading the attackers, asking "who does Sekra think she is?!". Hearing this, the Tomb King leading the assault immediately paused the attack and proceed to have her list read out in a magically-amplified from the command Cryptan Battle Ziggurat to them. Most Tomb Kings/Queens needed hours to read out their lists - with Sekra, it took nothing short of NINE DAYS. The Clovenist garrison, exhausted and demoralized beyond their limits, surrendered soon afterwards.
Cryptans: - Jewel of the Red Ascension, Conqueror of Celerity, Second Mother of Crypta’s Sun - !
Clovenist Officer: Never. EVER. Ask who their tyrant thinks she is ever again!
  • Villainous BSoD: Sekra is said to have wept for the first time in uncounted millennia upon hearing just how far her empire had fallen since the end of the Third Age. This may be Subverted as many questioned this account, since it seems quite Out of Character for her to do so. It is widely believed that instead, she got incredibly mad at the situation and vowed to fix everything no matter what or how long it takes.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Acknowledges that she is a haughty and power-hungry tyrant by the standards of many and even embrace the image to an extent, but believes that her absolute rule and conquest is necessary to achieve prosperity and power for Crypta, and through Crypta's expansion bring that same prosperity and power to the world.
  • Worthy Opponent:
    • During the 'Third Age', Sekra had an opponent standing in the way of her conquests in Lady Kimono, a resident of Third Age Ponyville who was so wise she was widely considered the Third Age equivalent of Second Age super-genius/hero Silversmith, the World's Smartest Pony (and likely one of his descendants). Their adversarial relationship had been compared to that of Silversmith with Overmare, although it's noted to be much less antagonistic and even friendly. When Sekra learnt that Kimono - now Princess Kouyou - had survived the end of the Third Age and returned to resume their battle of wits, Sekra was positively delighted.
    • She developed a healthy level of respect to many heroes and nations of the Fourth Age following her return after facing them off during the 'New Crypta Conquests'. In one case she came to respect Princess Amicitia and her Friendship Council enough that she accepted a semi-sincere invitation by Rarity Belle to visit Ponyville and Equestria, which she does so with spectacular pomp and style rivaling Cleopatra's own entrance to Rome.

    Ra/Raptah, the Sun of Crypta

Classification: Ethereal

Portfolio: Sun, Order, Civilization, Sovereignty (formerly)

Rank: Divine (Tier IV/Greater)

"Let our Order rise and Civilization flourish where the Sun shines its radiance!"

Raptah (His entry here) is a son of Ordos, the Order Primeval and the Sun god of the Cryptan Pantheon. Raptah was technically the actual original founder of Old Crypta, having ruled the kingdom before Sekra was even born. However, due to a harrowing sequence of events, Raptah was put at death's door, and to save him from dying, Raptah had to be 'reborn' as a new godling through the womb of a worthy demigoddess. Sekra, by then having conquered and reunified much of the disparate lands and kingdoms of Crypta, volunteered for the process, and thus Raptah became known as the 'Twiceborn Sun', son and heir of Sekra the Indomitable, and up until the catastrophes that ended the Third Age would help his mother run the empire and facilitate her conquests. Today, as with Sekra and other gods of Crypta, he had survived the end of the 'Third Age' by sealing himself away inside his own sword, waiting for a worthy host to possess and reincarnate back into the world once more...
  • Back from the Dead: After spending much of the Fourth Age in dormancy, his essence sealed inside his own sword following the catastrophic end of the Third Age, Raptah would be reincarnated back into the living world like his surrogate mother Sekra via possessing a worthy living vessel. In his case, a Hippogriff Honour Guard of Queen Novo heavily implied to be Captain Stratus Skyranger.
  • Bearer of Bad News: Following his resurrection in the Fourth Age, Raptah felt obligated to personally tell the family of the Hippogriff Honour Guard - heavily implied to be Captain Stratus Skyranger - of his fate and his role in bringing Raptah back, despite predictably the family receiving the news becoming inconsolable for days upon realizing what happened to their husband/father.
  • Big Good: Is noted to be benevolent and strong-willed, and was passionate and determined to do what he can to help those who needed it, often frustrated at his own father and uncles/aunts for not, in his eyes, doing enough. He and those who would become his fellow Cryptan gods were eventually given the chance to do so at the dawn of the Third Age, leading to him founding (Pre-Empire) Crypta.
  • Divine Parentage: Has a father in the big leagues: he is a son of Ordos, the Order Primeval, one of the Grand Primevals of Equus, making him the scion of one of the oldest gods on the planet.
  • Feathered Fiend: Was originally a purely predatory avian divine in appearance. After his rebirth through Sekra, who is Equine, he became a Hippogriff.
  • Mix-and-Match Critters: After his rebirth, his default appearance is that of a Hippogriff.
  • Order Versus Chaos: He is a god of order and has powers related to that domain. Cryptan myths told of his epic struggles with a terrible serpent monster embodying chaos - although in reality that chaos serpent was actually Discord, his cousin and son of Kaos, the Chaos Primeval, and their conflict more resembles 'annoying sibling fights' involving pranks and teasing than any titanic struggle with the fate of the universe in the balance.
  • The Power of the Sun: As the Cryptan sun god, he can draw power from the Sun while it is over Crypta, and could achieve divine feats such as summoning solar flares, and is a consummate luxomancer and pyromancer. Part of his domain was transferred to Sekra during his rebirth.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Part of his role in the First Crypta Empire post-rebirth is helping his second mother Sekra run her empire while she and her Kings/Queens go out on conquest, taking care of logistics and consolidation and working to keep them from conquering too much too quickly and over-extending their empire before they could consolidate. He was the first to point out upon his return in the Fourth Age the inadvisability for Sekra and the Tomb Kings/Queens to embark on the 'New Crypta Conquests' almost as soon as Sekra reawoke in the 'Fourth Age', when their empire is still a shadow of their former glory and power (He was even more stupefied to discover that they still managed to come close to succeeding in spite of their massively-weakened state).
  • What Were You Thinking?: As someone responsible for keeping her mother and their Kings/Queens from conquering too much and over-extending their empire too quickly during the 'Third Age', he was rather annoyed when upon returning in the 'Fourth Age' he discovered his mother, who had awoken earlier than him, and her Tomb Kings/Queens decided the first and best thing to do upon waking up is to immediately go out to conquer the world (again). He was even more stupefied to hear they actually come close to succeeding in spite of still being a shadow of their former glory and power.
Raptah: Our lands were desolated. Our people became undead. Our pantheon is still missing... And the first thing you decided to do upon awakening once more is to take over the world?

    Osiris/Ausaris
  • The Ace: The reason why he sought to take over the pantheon while Raptah was incapacitated and managed to rally considerable support from his fellow gods: he was the only one who come close to matching Raptah in terms of worth as a leader to do so.
  • Anti-Villain: He did not intend for Raptah to get poisoned, take over the Cryptan Pantheon and plunge Crypta into civil war spanning both the mortal and divine realms, but his attempts to fix things (by taking over the pantheon to hold it together while they find a way to heal Raptah) unfortunately only made things worse and brought about precisely what he wanted to prevent.
  • Captain Ersatz: Of Osiris, the Lord of the Dead, complete with experiencing the same ordeal as he did that led to him becoming master of the underworld.
  • Everyone Has Standards: He did not approve of what Khonmet, his own wife, had done in the slightest and did what he could to fix things and hold everything together, even if it did make things worse.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Wanted to save the Cryptan Pantheon and their followers from upheaval and civil strife, but unintentionally worsened the situation and caused what he sought to prevent to happen.

    Isis/Khonmet
  • Captain Ersatz: Of Isis, the Egyptian goddess of life, the Moon and magic.
  • Dark Magical Girl: Was a goddess of magic as well as the Moon.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Was unsatisfied with her and his husband's lot in the pantheon and believed that her husband would run the pantheon and Crypta better than Raptah. This leads to her poisoning Raptah.

    Hathor/Pethemet
  • Happily Married: To Raptah, the Cryptan sun god. During his poisoning and incapacitation she and her followers moved heaven and earth to try and heal and save him.

    Bast/Baasteth
  • One-Steve Limit: Subverted, as she shares the same name with Baast, the Guardian of Purpose. Or rather, it is possible that in-universe Baast is named after her, as is often the case in Egyptian naming conventions.
  • Total Eclipse of the Plot: One of her epic divine spells, the 'Eclipse of Baasteth' can create a magical eclipse of the Sun which not only blot out all sunlight over the battlefield and nearby regions, but also magically disrupted and blot out the magic and divine powers being channeled by the battle-mages and demigods opposing them at the battle, rendering them temporarily powerless, while simultaneously enhancing the spellcasters, constructs and monsters the Cryptans had deployed in battle.

Set/Sutekh, Lord of the Red Deserts
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Nearly went insane from rage and grief over the poisoning of Raptah and went on a rampage across the deserts looking for the culprit, not caring about the damage he caused in the process.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Raptah, the Sun of Crypta, to the point Raptah's poisoning and near-death resulted in his Start of Darkness.

Tomb Kings/Queens

    General

  • Semi-Divine: Many Tomb Kings and Queens are or became demigods, keeping with the image of Egyptian pharaohs, one of their inspirations, being seen as a god incarnate in the mortal world.
  • Nepharious Pharaoh: A whole civilization ruled by these from the Third Age, who are incidentally undead mummies. Their characters however varies widely, from practically having a 'Heart of gold' like Necraaiqed post-Heel–Face Turn to being terrifyingly evil to rival that of Ahew, the Warden of Chains (although even they couldn't stand him). On average, many of them are at least of the Noble Demon variety, desiring for Crypta to rule the world in Sekra's name, but also honourable in conduct who respects a Worthy Opponent.

    Necraaiqed, the Great Sorcerer

  • The Ace: Widely considered the most capable and most loyal of the Tomb Kings under High Queen Sekra, and with good reasons for it thanks to his prodigious genius, from his grand mastery of magic to his strategic cunning.
  • Adaptational Heroism: His inspiration, Nagash, was one of the most despicable characters in the entire Warhammer Fantasy world, even by the setting's standards. Nagash not only single-handedly destroyed Nehekhara, earning him the (literally) undying hatred of its people ruined by the disaster, but threatened to do the same to the entire world and enslave everyone as his obedient undead subjects for all eternity in his greed and ambition. His Codexverse counterpart, a magical Anubian named Necraaiqed, would have gone down a similar path but had a change of heart early on and instead became one of Sekra's greatest and most loyal Tomb Kings.
  • The Archmage: Has 'the Great Sorcerer' for his title, and from what we know so far and from his inspiration was a prodigious magic-wielder of unparalleled skilled and knowledge.
  • Batman Gambit: The author of the Crypta entries has confirmed that one of the 'Tomb Kings' who directly helped Daring Do get to the 'Crown of the Crimson Sun' ahead of all the other hostile factions trying to get it for their own ends was none other than Tomb King Necraaiqed. It's all but implied that he knows full well this act would bring about the resurrection of their High Queen.
  • Canon Foreigner: Pre-Heel–Face Turn, he was actually the Anubian Evil Overlord in the IDW Friendship is Magic comic, issue 24, dabbling with Nightmare Moon's evil powers, masquerading as one of the Neighyptian/Cryptan gods and was in conflict with the heroic Sun Cat Baast and her pack who are resisting his tyranny. Discord at one point ran afoul with him, making a mess which pissed off Necraaiqed to no end. Before he could get back at Discord or get him involved in his villainous schemes again his meeting with Discord, Fluttershy and the CMC (Time Travel was involved) was interrupted by Baast and her allies. It is implied a suggestion by the CMC to Baast to seek out similar artifacts to the Elements of Harmony and use The Power of Friendship to purify Anubis/Necraaiqed was what led to Necraaiqed Heel–Face Turn.
  • Captain Ersatz: Of Nagash, the Grand Necromancer from Warhammer Fantasy. Because of changes in circumstances - which Discord, the Spirit of Chaos unwittingly caused - rather than becoming the Tomb Kings' archenemy and a nigh-unstoppable undead necromancer who would cause the death and destruction of their entire land, he got himself 'a heart of gold' and not only become a hero but also one of if not THE greatest among the Tomb Kings who are loyal to Sekra the Indomitable.
  • The Dreaded: He's the most well-known and feared of the Tomb Kings outside the Eternal Sandstorm that surrounds Crypta below High Queen Sekra herself, especially after the 'New Crypta Conquests'.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Envy was the reason for his initial villainy, growing jealous and hateful of his brother King Serhep for the admiration others have for him, while his own brilliant achievements and genius was ignored and overshadowed. Serhep's misguided attempt to give his brother credit one time only serve to push his resentments to breaking point. This evaporates however when he was purified and Serhep finally manages to reconcile with him.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Necraaiqed was originally going down the same path as his inspiration, having been dabbling with Nightmare Moon's powers, masquerading himself as an Anubian god and trying to take over the lands of Crypta to rule over like a tyrant. Then, changes in circumstances (namely because Baast found artifacts and appropriate bearers like that of the Elements of Harmony and used it to purify him of his evil) unwittingly caused by Discord's time-travelling shenanigans caused him to realize the error of his ways, turning his life around until Discord recalled him having 'a heart of gold' and he was considered one of Sekra's greatest and most loyal Tomb Kings.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Necraaiqed was immensely remorseful upon being purified of his growing corruption and insanity by Baast and her heroic resistance using artifacts similar to the Elements of Harmony, as well as his brother Serhap reconciling with him despite everything he did. Necraaiqed would devote himself to the betterment of Crypta in service of High Queen Sekra with his genius as part of making amends.

    Jusesh the Black

  • Blind Obedience: Subverted. He's loyal to a fault, but he doesn't follow or obey without question. When confronted by undeniable truth of his master/friend Necraaiqed's growing corruption and insanity by Baast, Sennefer and Serhep, he helped them defeat Necraaiqed by revealing the secrets to his power, allowing him to be purified. He lampshades this in his quote and made it clear that there is a HUGE difference between being truly loyal and merely obedient.
  • Semi-Divine: Ascended to being a demigod of War, Loyalty, Magic, Undeath. He has potential for true godhood, but like his friend and superior Necraaiqed never chooses to, showing no interest.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Was once a sickly and weak Anubian prince of a minor Cryptan kingdom who was pitied and not expected to amount to much. Thanks to various empowerments, including achieving demi-divinity, at the height of Old Crypta and in the present day he's one of the most powerful warriors, commanders and rulers among the Tomb Kings, known and feared after Tomb King Necraaiqed himself.
  • Undying Loyalty: His most defining trait, being devoted to his friend and master Necraaiqed, their superior High Queen Sekra, and Crypta as a whole. One of his domains after his ascension to demi-divinity and could inspire this in others as well as strengthen his allies through links of loyalty to them and them to him.

Six Protectors of the Sands

Others

    Arken-Yer, the Arbiter of Crypta
First introduced in a Drabble, Arken-Yer was born from the fusion between Sekra the Indomitable and Daring Do, the embodiment of all the parts of their souls which had become one. Being the balance between them, Arken-Yer would serve the role as mediator between the two indomitable characters, and later become one of Crypta's ambassadors with the rest of the world.
  • Ambadassador: Arken-Yer, possessing Daring's knowledge, Sekra's wisdom and perfect understanding between the two, managed to do the unthinkable and mediate the two incorrigible, conflicting characters into a truce, and would later help negotiate the end of the New Crypta Conquests on behalf of Crypta.
  • Balance Between Good and Evil: Maintains this between the Daring Do and Sekra and prevent either from overcoming the other.
  • Cold Ham: Balanced between Daring Do's low-key inconspicuousness and Sekra's larger-than-life flair, Arken-Yer comes off as dramatic despite her balanced, more neutral and grounded character.
  • The Heart: Arken-Yer is responsible for keeping the peace between Daring Do and Sekra as much as possible, which is fairly impressive considering Daring Do's stubbornness and Sekra's pride.
  • Mental Fusion: She is born from all the parts of Sekra and Daring Do's mind and soul which are similar enough to fuse together into one, becoming the balance between the two in the process.
  • Mind Hive: Shares the same body with Daring Do and Sekra after awakening from their Mental Fusion.

    Ahew, the Warden of Chains

Character: Villainous

Alignment: Chaotic/Neutral Evil

Type: Undead, Anubian, Corrupted Guardian, Torturer, Champion

Faction: New Crypta

"Death? Oh no, nothing so simple, I assure you."

(His entry here)

  • Captain Ersatz: An Anubian version of Thresh from 'League of Legends', from his powers down to his sadism.
  • Can't Kill You, Still Need You: Nobody in Crypta likes him, but he is still kept and even rewarded for his service because as a hunter and warden of Crypta's most despicable enemies, he's REALLY good at his job.
  • Eviler than Thou: Many of his targets and victims were horrible entities and reprehensible beings themselves. It's a testament to Ahew's depravity when his sadism made him even more terrifying and worse than they are.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: On the side of the Tomb Kings/Queens of Crypta, but that's only because he's very good at his job as hunter, warden and punisher of the Tomb Kings' worst enemies. After all, he was a Soft-Spoken Sadist Serial Killer who even the Tomb Kings found appalling.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: He was originally an orphaned Anubian of no notability and poor magical skills. Now he's one of the most dreaded undead Cryptans to ever walk Equus.
  • Horrifying the Horror: Back when he was the warden of a vault of sealed evil beings and artifacts in the magical academy he was in, many of the inmates were quite evil and horrible and made no attempt to hide it. When he gave into his sadism and started torturing them, even they became horrified by him.
  • Sadist: Going with his inspiration, this was his defining character trait, desiring to inflict Cold-Blooded Torture and feeling or caring for little else. It was always with him, though he only stopped suppressing it and start reveling in it after he got a job as warden of a vault full of imprisoned evil objects and beings where he eventually allowed it to go out of control.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: When his atrocities were found out and he was defeated by Tomb King Jusesh the Black, he was sentenced to one of the gravest punishments of Old Crypta - the Burial of the Black Sands - whereupon he was mummified alive in black bandages and had his soul bound to his body, then locked away with his own chains to spend his death and undeath in a black sandstone sarcophagus which was sealed away inside the very vault he used to guard alongside all the other horrors. While his suffering is undeniably horrific, he absolutely deserved it, and this actually made him stronger when he busted out at the end of the Third Age/beginning of the Fourth Age as an wraith-like undead horror.
  • The Sociopath: Noted to have numbed to non-existent feelings beyond sadistic cruelty, though he actually has enough emotions to feel ashamed of it and try to keep it suppressed until he could no longer keep it in.
  • Start of Darkness: He was a poor skilled but dedicated student in one of Crypta's magical academies who struggled with his lack of social skills and has an inner sadism which he had difficulty suppressing. Then he got himself a job as the lonely warden of an isolated vault of sealed evils, objects and villains, whereupon his self-restraint crumbled when he found that he could vent his sadism with no one being the wiser. This result in him indulging in increasingly depraved cruelty on his inmates (Involving acts that horrified even them), which grew out of control when he got his claws on a new Sun Cat Wicked Witch inmate who could not die thanks to dark magic. By the time he was bored with her and reduced her to a broken Empty Shell from his Cold-Blooded Torture, his craving for more victims to play with resulted in classmates, teachers and guards disappearing until his atrocities were found out by an investigating Tomb King, who defeated him and sentenced him to a terrible punishment that saw him mummified alive and locked away in his own vault with his soul bound to his corpse. By the time he busted out, he became an accursed, wraith-like undead monster who would had gone on a rampage were he not stopped by Tomb King Necraaiqed, who managed to get him falling in line by making him the hunter and warden of the Tomb Kings' worst enemies in exchange for a pardon and free game to punish those he captured however he likes.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Among the the Tomb Kings/Queens of Crypta - who while antagonistic and villainous with their empire-restoring imperialistic ambitions are not necessarily Evil - Ahew stands out for being depraved and diabolical even by modern standards, and especially by Third Age standards. Because of this, he was kept a Sealed Evil in a Can for much of the Third Age and only began making his mark in the Fourth.
  • Torture Technician: Thanks to being a sadistic Serial Killer, he's noted to be incredibly creative when it comes to inflicting pain and suffering for his sadistic pleasure. To note, he even figured out how to torture inanimate sapient objects.
  • Wardens Are Evil: As Evil as one can get. Though in his case he is quite literally an undead heartless monster.

    Merew, the High Queen’s Scorpion

Character: Neutral

Alignment: Lawful Neutral

Type: Tomb Scorpion, Divine Pet, Ancient Monster, Undead

Faction: Old/New Crypta

  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: At baseline he is already big as a dragon, and since becoming Sekra's divine creature he got as one of his powers an ability to size-shift to Kaiju size.
  • It Can Think: It is also somewhat intelligent thanks to being a divine animal and surprisingly cunning. In fact, it was Merew who set off the chain of events leading to his master's Sekra's resurrection, getting the Sole Survivor of a Thracean tomb-raiding group he just slaughtered to spread word of the 'Crown of the Crimson Sun' artifact, knowing full well that Villains and Heroes alike would try and get it, and Tomb King Necraaiqed would make sure at least one of them would eventually make it to the Crown and don it, allowing for Sekra to possess their bodies to return.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: During the New Cryptan Conquests he got into a battle with People's Regent Zamrŭznal of the Cloven Empire, with support from troops of Cryptan Bone Giants and Clovenist Giants respectively. Details remain scarce, only that their confrontation was 'epic and terrifying' in equal measures, and though Merew eventually lost, he still managed to decimate his Giant troops and grievously wound People's Regent Zamrŭznal so much that he would be out of commission for much of the conflict.
  • Poison Is Corrosive: His stinger could produce a deadly toxin which he could inject with a sting or spray like a hose, potent enough that it could melt through flesh and is said to be able to burn 'like Wild Fire'. And since he's a Divine Animal, it is strong and enchanted enough to harm even Gods. To note, while People's Regent Zamrŭznal of the Cloven Empire managed to defeat him, it was this that would put him out of commission for much of the 'New Crypta Conquests'.
  • Resurrective Immortality: Like the other Cryptan Undead, Merew cannot be permanently killed, and any death outside black sands of Crypta would only see him magically reappear and restored within the lands shrouded the Eternal Sandstorm.
  • Kaiju: Capable of size-shifting to the size of Dracozilla Jr thanks to being a Divine Creature, much wider at the base if not as tall.
  • Undying Loyalty: Literally, as the physical death of his master and the disaster that fell Crypta at the end of the Third Age also turned him into an Undead creature. Since they were young they were practically inseparable, with Merew fiercely protective of Sekra, serving as her mount in battle and weapon against her enemies, always obeying her orders without question. He spent much of the Fourth Age angry and bitter at the loss of his master, guarding the borders of Crypta and venting his rage at intruders. Suffice to say, he was practically overwhelmed with joy when his master finally returns. The feelings of loyalty are mutual as Sekra loves him as her faithful companion and practically raised him.
