Roselia

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/roselia_logo.png
A Highly Talented Band of Pro-Level Muscians!

An elite band with incredible talent and a fierce drive to reach the very top of the music world. They consist of Yukina on vocals, Sayo on guitar, Lisa on bass, Ako on drums and Rinko on keyboard. They view themselves as professionals who hold themselves and others to infamously high standards. Their style is powerful, gothic Visual Kei J-rock.

    General
  • The Ace: They are known for their high degree of technical skill and the strong standards they impose on themselves and each other.
  • Breaking the Fellowship:
    • Played for Drama in their band story, Yukina is offered a chance for her to perform in a concert and is conflicted with going alone for the Future World Fes or going as a band with Roselia. Almost considering it, even, tearing the band apart when confronted by Ako, who happened to be nearby when she hears the deal together with Rinko. It was thanks to Lisa that the band comes together again.
    • Happens again during Roselia's 2nd band story "Neo-Aspect" albeit for completely different reasons. Yukina's frustration over Roselia's perceived failure of a performance during their opening act for the SMS event gets the best of her which leads to her angrily lashing out at her bandmates during rehearsals, one of which drives Ako to leave in tears in one of them, followed by both Rinko and Sayo snapping at Yukina for her behavior , leading her in turn to tearfully leave after realising what's been happening to the band, with Lisa unable to do anything to help this time. It takes all of them to think and realize just how much Roselia means to each one of them before they eventually reconcile before the end of their band story.
  • Breakout Character: Group example. Having only appeared in a single episode in Season 1, and with minimal dialogue at that, does not prevent Roselia from being the first band in the franchise to release a full-length album, despite only being in the second place when it comes to the number of singles released. They're also the first band of the franchise to do an opening song for another anime.
  • Color-Coded Characters: The band is associated as a group with blue.
    • Yukina: Dark Purple
    • Sayo: Turquoise
    • Lisa: Burnt Sienna
    • Ako: Magenta
    • Rinko: White
  • Deuteragonist: They're the second most important band in the series starting from 2nd season, as most of their spotlight is shared with Poppin'Party and RAISE A SUILEN.
  • Does Not Like Spam: They each have one specific vegetable they particularly dislike. Yukina hates bitter melon, Sayo hates carrots, Lisa hates green smoothies, Ako hates green bell peppers, and Rinko hates celery.
    • This is Played for Laughs in one of the 4-panel comics in the mobile game, where a cafe wants to make collaboration drinks with each band, based on something the members have in common. The only thing Roselia’s members actually have in common, in terms of personality, is a disliking of vegetables, leading to the conclusion that their drink would be a Green vegetable smoothie, containing bitter melon, bell pepper, carrots and celery, with the members stating “That’s not a collaboration! That’s a secret anti-Roselia weapon!”
  • Flower Motifs: The band is named after a couple of flowers, and its symbol is a blue rose. Blue roses do not actually exist, so the color was chosen to represent overcoming impossibility.
  • Four-Temperament Ensemble:
    • Yukina is Melancholic.
    • Sayo is Choleric.
    • Lisa is Sanguine.
    • Ako is Sanguine.
    • Rinko is Phlegmatic.
  • Girl Posse: Yukina and Sayo basically form one early on in Roselia's band story, as they're practically callously dismissive of Ako and seemingly surrounded by an ice fortress in how insurmountable their expectations are. They never stop being one per se, as can be seen in their rivalry with Ran and Tomoe in the main story.
  • Graceful Ladies Like Purple: An elegant band that mainly wears purple dresses for their concerts.
  • Pimped-Out Dress: Their stage wear consists of some very fancy Elegant Gothic Lolita dresses, all handmade by Rinko.
  • Portmanteau: The band is named after the rose and the camelia.
  • Purple Is Powerful: A popular purple-themed band that managed to impress many people who watched their performances.
  • The Rival: Again, the Ojou duo, first towards each other, then while coming off as mean girls towards Ako, and then towards Ran and Tomoe in their interactions.
  • Technician Versus Performer: They have this dynamic with all of the other bands, with Roselia as the "Technicians" who focus on clinical perfection and find they still don't understand the heart and joy of music. While three of the other bands were formed For Happiness (personal or shared) and Pastel*Palettes were manufactured for their image and were never expected to be good at their instruments, Roselia built themselves on sounding professional with their only goal being to be good enough to perform with the best of the best, and Yukina and Sayo, at the very least, are hostile to the idea of performing for fun alone.
    • Within the band, this dynamic can also be found, with Lisa and Ako typically acting more like "Performers" (moving more and trying to look good while playing as good as they can) and Sayo and Rinko being "Technicians" (focusing entirely on playing their instruments, without even trying to put on a good show). This also reflects their individual personalities.
      • Yukina herself, however, seems to switch between the two roles as needed.
  • Visual Kei: The genre they focused on due to their Elegant Gothic Lolita aesthetics.

    Yukina Minato

Yukina Minato

Voiced by: Aina Aiba (Japanese), Olivia Swasey (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1a7cdf48_b2df_4f1d_a3a1_49a76a3e7f56.png
Birthday: October 26 (Scorpio)
School: Haneoka Girls' High School (Seasons 1-2), Yotsuba Women's University (Fine Arts Department) (Season 3)
Year: 2nd (Season 1), 3rd (Season 2), College Freshman (Season 3)

The vocalist of Roselia. Her father was a band vocalist himself back in his heyday, and one of her major goals is to launch a successful career as a vocalist that would do him proud and encourage him to play one more time. She is also trying to get the band to Future World Fes, a music festival reserved only for the best bands in the world. Yukina is very serious about her music; she has next to nothing else on her mind and sternly encourages her bandmates to have the same mindset.
  • The Ace: Even before she formed Roselia, she was already making headlines with her incredible singing talent, to the point of various talent agencies trying to scout her out (and her turning them all down). And putting even that aside, she's also musically talented enough to write down and compose songs all on her own with little to no help while accurately analyzing her bandmates' (and other musicians outside her band) strengths and weaknesses and giving them pointers on how to further improve themselves from there.
  • Achievements in Ignorance: Yukina has an absurdly uncanny amount of good luck in video games despite being hopelessly clueless about gaming and tech in general. She somehow manages to stumble upon rare items in NFO without actively looking for them in the first place, accidentally solves puzzles even seasoned gamers like Ako and Rinko have trouble with, and somehow manages to elude a difficult bonus boss entirely while lost in a dungeon and then finds the very rare creature that Ako wanted at the beginning of the "Neo Fantasy Online" event.
  • The Atoner:
  • Being Personal Isn't Professional: She's fairly strict about this, saying that personal issues have no place in Roselia... even though she herself established the band for a personal reason.
  • Blatant Lies: After a mix-up happens, Arisa, Moca, Kanon, and Tsugumi accidentally find out about Yukina's love for cats in the "Hectic Happy Valentine" event, a fact that only Lisa was in the know about before then. When Moca directly asks Yukina about it, Yukina quickly goes into denial, saying that she doesn't hate cats but doesn't particularly like them either...just after they caught her red-handed as she was about to hand some stray cats special Valentine's Day food she made for them while talking to the cats in a sweet, cutesy manner unbefitting of her cool and aloof image.
  • Broken Pedestal:
    • Played for laughs in the Hectic Happy Valentine event where Arisa's image of Yukina being a cool and serious aloof beauty is shattered when she sees her being all cozy and hilariously gooey soft towards cats.
    • Played somewhat more seriously when it's revealed that she's considering leaving her bandmates behind if it means getting into Future World Fes. Sayo, as the one who most bought into Yukina's vision of what a band should be, feels utterly betrayed. Though that pedestal ends up being rebuilt after everything has been resolved and they make up, with the events after both Roselia Band Stories showing how much Sayo still highly looks up to Yukina with newfound respect each time.
  • Brutal Honesty: To a fault. She's not afraid to tell bandmates and cooperating bands if their level of technique doesn't meet her standards.
  • Character Development:
    • Becomes a better and overall more caring leader to her bandmates especially after Chapter 17 of Roselia's band story. The event episodes show just how much she's grown since the group's founding.
    • This is extended outside of Roselia as well. She starts opening up to other people and loosens up more, even helping out her classmates during Haneoka's Culture Festival in one of Lisa's card stories.
    • While she lapses back to her old, negative behavior during the "Neo-Aspect" band story, it should be noted that her actions were brought about by her genuine frustration over her role as Roselia's leader as she believes that their failure of a performance during the SMS event was because of her weakness in leading them. It takes Kasumi and Sayo talking to her after much drama ensued for her to go back to the right direction again.
  • Childhood Friend: With Lisa. Despite pushing her away due to her single-minded focus on music, there are many scenarios that prove Yukina still clearly cares for Lisa, especially after she slowly defrosts throughout the story.
  • The Comically Serious: There are times when she'll say or do the most ridiculous of things without ever breaking from that stoic disposition of hers. Garupa Pico takes this trait of hers and dials it up to the extreme.
  • Cool Big Sis: Acts as one to Kasumi despite not being related amusingly enough. This might be because of her love of cats, and Kasumi's vaguely cat-like appearance (mainly her unique hair-style).
  • Crippling Overspecialization: She's an extremely talented vocalist and musician, but her devotion to improving only her musical talents have left her somewhat poor in other areas out of it like mere housework and even simple ball games, though it's usually played for laughs. Yukina observes that Rinko is talented both in costume making and being a keyboardist, and reflects that she only has singing.
  • Cruel to Be Kind: She may be blunt when it comes to criticizing those who don't meet her standards in music, especially towards Roselia members during rehearsals at times, but it's all for the sake of pushing the receiver of her words to greater heights and for them to improve themselves through them. Even her telling Kasumi point blank that she and the rest of Poppin' Party weren't ready for a self-sponsored live of their own during the 2nd episode of the 2nd season wasn't done out of cruelty but stern kindness on her end.
  • Cuteness Proximity: She's stern and even cold towards others on a regular basis, but that goes out the window whenever she encounters a cat.
  • Daddy's Girl: Her main motivation throughout Roselia's band story is centered around how much she loves her father and wants to perform just for him to play the band again.
  • Dare to Be Badass: Her spiel for Roselia's members, which sums up the band's determination to reach their goal of being the best quite nicely:
Are you prepared to fully devote yourself for Roselia?
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: She starts off as an icy cold girl at the very beginning of Roselia's Band Story, but the ice starts melting further down the longer she bonds with her bandmates from Roselia, to the point that by the time Kasumi meets her, she's noticeably a bit more mellow than how she first started as.
  • Determinator: She's obstinate and single-minded in her goal to reach Future World Fes no matter what and devotes herself entirely to her singing career for it. This attitude is deconstructed however as we're shown the negative consequences her obsession towards reaching her end goal can have and the strain it puts on her relationships with her friends.
  • Didn't Think This Through: While her fellow band members thankfully talked her out of this, taking up that shady offer that would guarantee her a one-way ticket to Future World Fes at the expense of her band would have been a pretty stupid idea anyway. Think about it... Does she think that she'll be able to get away with going through something as questionable as this behind her bandmates' backs with none of them the wiser? Does she think that her father will be even happy if he discovers that she was able to qualify for such a competitive best-of-the-best type of music event through questionable means? Even worse... does she think that he would even be proud of her if ever he discovered that his own daughter essentially cheated her way to achieve world-class status through some shady dealings instead of honest-to-God hard work and skills?
    • As such, one of her major character flaws is her lack of foresight. Due to her single-minded goal and obsession to make it to Future World Fes, she barely takes into careful consideration the negative consequences of her own actions in the long run along with how others might think or feel about them until they later come back to bite her hard in the ass. Luckily, she seems to have grown out of this attitude later on as the story progresses.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Dislikes bitter food, especially bitter melon. In fact, she always makes sure to pour a boatload of sugar into her coffee first before drinking it to diminish the bitter flavor.
  • Fatal Flaw: Pride. Yukina's fatal flaw lies in her overwhelming pride, a consequence of her remarkable vocal prowess. While she rightfully possesses an admirable level of confidence in her abilities as a singer, her downfall emerges from a rigid belief that her approach is the sole correct path. This unwavering conviction, coupled with a reluctance to recognize her own shortcomings and insecurities as a leader, casts a shadow over her otherwise impressive talent. Her tendency to dismiss people who don't meet her impossibly high standards and an inability to acknowledge her vulnerabilities as a leader not only hinders the growth of her band but also strains relationships within Roselia. This prideful disposition becomes a formidable obstacle that Yukina must navigate, ultimately shaping her journey toward self-awareness and growth as the narrative unfolds.
  • Gone Horribly Right: In the "Neo-Aspect" story arc, she somehow successfully imposed the belief that "Roselia doesn't need friendship" on her fellow band members following the band's setback at the SMS event. This led to a regression to her former negative self, as she staunchly believed that interpersonal bonds were a hindrance to the band's goals. However... this approach yielded less than favorable results. Her relationship with the band strained to the point where Ako and Rinko, unable to endure her abusive Jerkass behavior any longer, left her. Lisa and Sayo expressed nothing but disappointment in her attitude, and Roselia faced the imminent threat of disbandment. Fortunately, the worst-case scenario was averted as Kasumi and Sayo played pivotal roles in guiding her back on the right path, allowing her to acknowledge and atone for her mistakes.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Not only does she show some deep insecurities over her role as Roselia's leader, but she's also very aware that music is the only thing she's got going for her and that she's rather poor in other areas outside of it.
  • Hime Cut: She used to sport this hairstyle back when she was a child as revealed in an official 4koma. She no longer has it in the present day, however.
  • Hopeless with Tech: The "Neo Fantasy Online" event reveals that Yukina is a bit tech-illiterate as she had easily avoidable trouble with the PC she was using for the entirety of the event's story.
  • Hypocrite: She tells her bandmates that personal issues have no place in Roselia... the band she started to prove herself to her father. She also insists that the others fully devote themselves to Roselia, but selfishly considers accepting a shady deal and leaving her bandmates behind to succeed on her own.
  • Humanizing Tears: She sheds her stoic facade during the climax of the "Neo-Aspect" story arc. Yukina consistently projects an image of stoicism and aloofness, but after a heated argument with her bandmates, she unexpectedly breaks down in tears, revealing genuine guilt and remorse for the earlier conflict. This vulnerable moment underscores that, despite her struggle to express emotions, she harbors deep regret for the way things badly turned out between her and Roselia, acknowledging the role her selfishness and bottled-up insecurities played in the discord.
  • Hypocrisy Nod: She admits that her insistence that her bandmates not bring personal problems into the band rings hollow when she founded the band because of her father.
  • I'm Taking Her Home with Me!: One episode of Garupa Pico has her reacting this way to a bunch of stray cats and Kasumi.
  • Introverted Cat Person: Yukina's not much of a social person, but cats, and anything related to cats in general, can bring out her softer traits.
  • It's All About Me: In Roselia's side story in the game, Yukina wants to perform on the main stage of Future World Fes and nearly falls into this trope when she gets an offer from a shady talent agent that would guarantee that she — just her, by the way, not the rest of the band — gets to perform there. Understandably, the rest of the band blasts her for actually considering this offer when they find out, feeling like they were only being used by her for her own goals.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She's stern and aloof, but that doesn't mean she doesn't care about her bandmates at all or that she's generally a bad person at heart. She shows concern and even praises them whenever the need arises and can be sweet (in her own way) from time to time. It's best seen whenever she's alone with Lisa and Kasumi though.
    • She slowly but surely loses the "jerk" part though as she continuously makes an effort in herself to become a much more open and kinder person later on.
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: While she's typically a cool-toned Ojou, as soon as cats come into the picture, she becomes a puddle of goo, and might even secretly rival the game's many airheads in Cloudcuckoolanderness.
  • Large Ham: During the "Kokoro's Eternal Halloween" event she got a little too into character as a Queen of Darkness after some convincing from Ako.
  • The Leader: She's the face and founder of Roselia. As she's the center of it all, all of its members gathered primarily because of her. Though it's not without its burdens Yukina reveals that she has deep insecurities over her role as Roselia's leader despite the bravado she shows her bandmates.
  • Luminescent Blush: Whenever she's flustered either due to embarrassment or because of cats.
  • Mirror Character: She and Ran view each other as rivals, but they both want to impress their fathers with music and have trouble expressing their emotions.
  • My Way or the Highway: She is not above telling bandmates to leave if she feels that they're not devoting themselves fully to the band. This on top of leaving her bandmates almost no time for anything that isn't related to working on their music means that Roselia is only for the most elite of high school musicians.
  • No Social Skills: Her major flaw is that despite her bluntness, or maybe because of it, she has difficulty expressing her true emotions with tact when it comes to her interactions with her friends. Because of this, she can come off as extremely cold and rude to others without meaning to be which causes some misunderstandings down the line at certain times. This flaw ends up forming a bulk of the problems Roselia encounters during their "Neo-Aspect" Band Story, though her tendency to miss social cues at times ends up getting played for laughs.
  • Not Quite the Right Thing: In Band Story 2, she reverts to her old personality after the SMS event, believing that the the band becoming more friendly with each other affected their performance. This causes a rift within Roselia.
  • Not So Above It All: She has a secret goofy side underneath all that ice despite her efforts to hide it. Her common sense gets essentially thrown out the window whenever cats get in the picture.
  • Not So Stoic: The cool stoic facade hides it well, but her secret love for cats and her general awkwardness in comical scenarios outside of anything music-related put her firmly in this territory.
  • Odd Friendship: You'd think that the serious, aloof, and no-nonsense Yukina would be irritated at the cheerful, optimistic, and fun-loving Kasumi but she's actually genuinely fond of her and treats her rather kindly in casual conversations even compared to how she usually treats her bandmates post-defrosting.
  • Pet the Cat: Icy she may be, but in her softer moments, she's more than capable of being gentle and kind with her bandmates whenever they're down and are in much need of encouragement. She's also unusually soft towards Poppin' Party (especially towards Kasumi) under the veneer of being a strict mentor towards them, a fact that doesn't go unnoticed by Sayo.
  • Proper Lady: Acts like this most of the time. Unless she happens to be near a cat or have a moment of being Not So Above It All.
  • Red Baron: Until she formed Roselia, she was known as the "Lone Wolf Songstress" due to rejecting any and all offers from talent agencies, instead choosing to work by herself.
  • The Rival: Yukina and Afterglow’s Ran share this view towards each other, constantly trying to prove that they’re the best (which ironically pushes both bands to become even better), either despite Yukina having more in common with Ran than with her own bandmates or because she has more in common with Ran. Many of their random conversations tend to end with one of them thinking “Why do I feel like I just lost?”
  • Serious Business: If it wasn't for her difficulty expressing emotions and her comical attachment to cats, her serious passion for music and singing would have made her the Bandori version of Walter Sobchak.
  • Signature Hair Decs: The black butterfly hairpin she wears is almost an Iconic Item.
  • Silk Hiding Steel: Looks graceful and elegant, and has a proper-seeming air around her, but aside from when she relaxes around friends, once she looks at a person and speaks, it's pretty evident she's the sort who'll cut through whatever obstacle in front of her until it's gone.
  • So Proud of You: She flashes small but genuine smiles during Poppin' Party's performances whenever she's shown, with the biggest examples of her exemplifying this trope in both the penultimate and final episodes of the second season.
  • Stealth Mentor: On two separate occasions to both Ran and Kasumi, her two juniors, during the "Afterglow of Our Fading Pride" event and the anime's second season respectively.
  • The Stoic: Her deadpans are pretty good, and usually she's not even trying.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: She only shows up in the manga adaptation of Roselia's first Band Story, but her mother is essentially an older-looking version of her.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: She can come off coldly at first, but when she warms up to someone she becomes pretty easygoing and even sweet during casual hangouts (but not during practice). She's also genuinely fond of Poppin' Party, especially of Kasumi, likely because despite their stark differences in styles, methods, and personalities, they have similar goals and attitudes in reaching them, something Yukina respects very well.
  • Sweet Tooth: Not as pronounced as Sayo, but her hatred of bitter foods and preference towards sweets make her out as one. She puts a LOT of sugar in her coffee.
  • Talented, but Trained: She's an incredibly gifted singer, but has mentioned time and again that she needs to constantly practice to retain and further improve her talent. She imparts and instills this wisdom to her fellow Roselia members as well by ensuring that they regularly have band practice so their skills would never end up dull.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: During Roselia's second band story, the band's supposedly poor performance at an SMS event results in her lapsing back into her old Ice Queen self, and she's even worse than before, insisting that Lisa stop baking cookies for the band and regularly belittling poor Ako. It culminates in Ako lashing out at her to the point where she breaks down crying and is unable to bring herself to attend rehearsals. She eventually gets better.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Gradually throughout the main story and especially in Roselia's Band Stories as well as the events that follow them.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Lisa's cookies. Specifically, her cookies alone.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: She used to be a whole lot more cheerful in personality and was a much openly sweeter friend towards Lisa as a child, but her father's spiral into depression following his dream of entering Future World Fes getting crushed despite his great talent transformed her into the aloof, perfectionist ice queen she is in the present. She's slowly becoming the child she once was again the longer she bonds with Roselia however.
  • Was It All a Lie?: On the receiving end of this, when it turns out she was considering abandoning the group and going on alone to the Future World Fes. The others ask if she really meant it when she asked them to commit themselves to the band.
  • Was Too Hard on Him: After telling Poppin' Party that they aren't ready to host a self-sponsored live yet in season 2, she worries that she was too harsh with them and tries to see if they're okay.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: Her primary motivation for singing is to one day impress her father and get him to perform once again. As a result, she's somewhat disappointed when her father warns her not to stay out late but doesn't acknowledge her practicing.
  • Well-Trained, but Inexperienced: Although she possesses remarkable musical talent and knowledge, her lack of prior experience in band leadership was apparent in the early days of Roselia. Her perfectionistic mindset and initially flawed leadership style, exacerbated by poor social skills, nearly led to the disbandment of Roselia after a heated argument with fellow band members following their setback at the SMS event. Fortunately, as the story unfolds, she undergoes a gradual transformation into a more compassionate and effective leader, learning from her experiences and contributing to the band's growth.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: On the receiving end of it. Ako and Sayo both respectively felt betrayed with Yukina considering going alone for the Future World Fes.
  • When She Smiles: While normally stoic, she has one of the best and gentlest smiles in the cast. It's this side of her that Lisa wants to bring out more of her in fact.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are:
    • Gives this speech to Lisa after Lisa voices out her doubts about her own role in the band as well as her perceived lack of talent compared to the rest in Lisa's 3* An Essential Existence card story after the Don't Leave Me Lisa! event.
"I thought your playing was good, that's why I let you join. Since I was the one who gave you the OK to join Roselia, you should have more faith in yourself...I'll say it again. In order for Roselia to become the best band, you're an essential piece... I may be the one leading Roselia, but I think you're the one who supports us the most. Rinko may have been the one to say that she felt more at ease with you around, but actually, everybody in Roselia feels the same way. Since there are a lot of things we can't do without you, if you're not there, we'd be in big trouble. Got it?"
    • She also does this with both Sayo in the Umbrella For The Autumn Rain event and with Rinko in the Prelude's Replay event and in casual Area Conversations involving them when they both needed encouragement.

Birthday: March 20 (Pisces)
School: Hanasakigawa Girls' High School (Seasons 1-2), Keiho Women's University (Law Department) (Season 3)
Year: 2nd (Season 1), 3rd (Season 2), College Freshman (Season 3)

The guitarist of Roselia. She is the older twin sister of Hina, who she has a jealous streak for, and desires to become a strong guitarist who won't simply be seen as the shadow of her sister. She shares Yukina's cutthroat mindset toward music, believing that anyone who won't put in the same amount of effort as them should just go home.
  • A Day in the Limelight: In the Umbrella For The Autumn Rain, where her superior-inferiority complex towards her twin sister becomes an important point that she has broken her relationship with Hina, which is followed up later with Ako still reciting her Big Sister Worship towards Tomoe, the latter getting a chance to talk about what it is like to be someone's older sister, eventually resulting in Sayo's resolve to repair her relationship with Hina, culminated by the former accepting the latter's offering of an umbrella to shelter themselves together from the rain.
  • Aloof Big Sister: Played with: rather than Sayo being the impressive older twin and having an aloof attitude toward her younger twin, it’s Hina who’s effortlessly more impressive, which is precisely the reason Sayo acts cold towards her. Deep down, she greatly regrets the way she treats her sister. Later stories and events see Sayo lessening the "aloof" aspect as part of her wish to be more kind and honest with Hina, and as part of the promise the two shared together.
  • Always Identical Twins: To Hina. She actually dislikes the baggage this trope comes with (prior to Character Development).
  • And Then What?: She asks Yukina if she had any plans for Roselia beyond Future World Fes during Roselia's Band Story.
  • Birds of a Feather: With Yukina. Being cold, aloof perfectionists who are determined to be the best and having common goals with each other made it easier for them to get along well and form Roselia immediately after the fact.
  • Blunt "Yes": She does this in an argument with her bandmates.
Band Member #2: Being in a band is not just about skill, is it?
Sayo: Yes, actually. It is. Otherwise, it's all just a waste of time and energy.
  • Brutal Honesty: Like Yukina, she has poor tact, having no qualms telling band members, current and prospective, that they suck if that's how she honestly feels.
  • Character Development: The “Umbrella in the Autumn Rain” event story deals with her trying to find her sound and realizing that she’s bottling up her insecurities revolving around her guitar-playing and jealousy towards Hina. By the end of the story, she’s making an effort to be kinder to Hina. After this story, Sayo slowly becomes less bullheaded and more open, and she even attends a cooking class at Tsugumi’s cafe in hopes of trying to cater to Roselia in case Lisa isn’t around.
  • The Comically Serious: Not as much as Yukina, but it's there, especially in the 4-koma comics as well as Garupa PICO.
  • Deadpan Snarker: After she and Hina accidentally come across each other in town and Hina asks if she wants to head back home together, she says "We might as well, after all, we live in the same house."
  • The Determinator: Her use of language and stubbornness gives this impression. She says she "has no choice" but to improve her guitar playing and "I won't lose!" at one point.
  • Does Not Like Spam: She hates carrots with a passion, although ironically, it's her sister who didn't like carrots when they were younger, before the current time when Hina doesn't have problems with eating carrots.
  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!: When she collapses while practicing in her room during Roselia Band Story 1, Hina runs in to check on her. Sayo angrily orders her out of the room, and after replying to a text from Ako, reiterates her desire to not lose to Hina on the guitar.
  • The Dragon: Acts as this to Yukina when she needs it, and does so unironically. That being said, she's also the most upset to hear about Yukina considering going solo to Future World Fes.
  • Establishing Character Moment:
    • In Roselia's first band story, one of her earliest scenes (before she joins Roselia) has two of her bandmates threatening to quit because Sayo only ever criticizes them for not meeting her standards, which quickly demonstrates that anyone who's in the same band as her better keep the hell up or she'll have nothing but harsh words for them. Shortly afterward, she meets Yukina and apologizes for the poor performance, showing that Sayo is just as hard on herself as she is on others.
    • Her initial relationship with Hina is established when she tells Hina not to look at her phone while she's looking at a website for "Future World Fes" (since she doesn't want Hina to copy her by playing the guitar), and coldly rebuffs Hina's invitation to watch a show about dogs together, saying that they don't need to do everything together just because they're twins. It goes to show how much Sayo's desperation to find her own identity and outdo Hina is hurting their relationship.
  • Foil: She and Yukina are both the serious and demanding members of the band, in contrast to Lisa, Ako, and Rinko, but upon closer examination, they have many differences. While Yukina is motivated to play because of what happened to her father, and because she wants to impress him, Sayo wants to outdo her sister in the one thing she considers hers. Yukina even considering leaving the others behind to go solo to Future World Fes also upsets Sayo, who had wanted to play in a band full of people who had comparable talent and determination.
  • Freudian Excuse: Sayo's resentment towards her younger twin sister, Hina, finds its roots in Hina's inadvertent tendency to outshine her in various things. This understandable frustration of constantly being overshadowed by Hina led Sayo to develop an intense fixation on mastering the guitar, a pursuit she initially believed would be impervious to her sister's influence. Desperate to carve her own identity and stand out from Hina's shadow, Sayo's journey with the guitar became a symbolic battleground for asserting her individuality. However...
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: ... it should be clear that having a major inferiority complex issue obviously shouldn't give her a free pass from neither her rude Jerkass tendencies that stemmed from her deep-seated insecurities nor the repercussions of expressing negativity and frustration towards others. Instances like her outburst at Ako during Roselia's first band story or her poor treatment of Hina highlight the harmful consequences of Sayo's unresolved issues. However, the narrative takes a positive turn after the events of "Umbrella Under the Autumn Rain," marking a pivotal moment of growth for Sayo. In the aftermath of their reconciliation, Sayo resolves to improve herself, not only as a sister to Hina but also as a person, signaling a promising shift away from her earlier antagonistic behavior.
  • Gamer Chick: After the "Neo Fantasy Online" event, Sayo takes a liking to playing NFO just like Ako and Rinko, with certain dialogues suggesting she plays the game and is skilled at it as much as them.
  • Grey Rain of Depression: A recurring theme with Sayo is that whenever she gets emotionally distressed, rain starts falling down. This is most prominent in the "Umbrella for the Autumn Rain" event where she gets caught in the rain while she is in the midst of reflecting on her internal issues with Hina and her own guitar playing.
  • Heroes Love Dogs: Downplayed in regards to Sayo's less-than-heroic attitude and status as a character, but she does love dogs, and they're one of the few things that can bring out the softer side of her. That said, Garupa Pico shows that she has no problem with cats either.
  • Hero Worship: It's subtle compared to Rinko and especially Ako because she's not afraid to call her out when needed, but it's clear that Sayo also holds Yukina in high regard as much as they do and holds a deep level of respect towards her for her inner strength and unwavering will when it comes to her beliefs. Though her admiration of her initially started because of Yukina's musical talents, ideals, and her tough-as-nails approach towards the band, after some character development from both of them, Yukina showing how much she cares and values her bandmates in Roselia is what solidified it the most.
Sayo: Minato-san is more than "just" strong.
  • Hypocrite: She often gets exasperated by Hina's poor sense of tact as much as she tends to call her out for her Innocently Insensitive moments... yet she's no better than her own younger twin sister herself when it comes to being blunt and less mindful towards the feelings of other people.
  • Ice Queen: Cold, serious, and has no time to waste on distractions, but when she does defrost, the sweet side of Sugar-and-Ice Personality is pretty obvious.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: Sayo's overall Jerkass behavior towards Hina and other people mostly stems from her feelings of inferiority towards her younger twin sister as she envied and resented her for being better than her at everything ever since they were young. This negative attitude gets deconstructed as it demonstrates not only how it badly affects her relationship with Hina, but also herself and the people around her. As such, most of her initial approaches to cope with the pain of her issues prior to "Umbrella in the Autumn Rain" sometimes tend to cause more harm than good than she intended.
  • Jerkass: She can most definitely come off as this in the main story and Roselia’s first band story, arguably even more so than Yukina, as she has nothing but harsh words towards her former bandmates (claiming that being in a band is about skill and nothing more, along with rudely brushing off the idea of friendship), the other members of Roselia (regularly belittling Ako and sharing Yukina's unbelievably high expectations of the band), and the girls outside of the band (passive-aggressively insulting Ran and claiming that Girl's Band Party is no place for sharing feelings), not to mention her sister (attempting to shut her out of her life and regularly trying to push her away). We eventually learn about her Hidden Depths and she slowly begins to make an effort to be a kinder person, averting this trope in the process.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: She was extremely harsh with her old band, but she isn't wrong to want to cut ties with them if her level of talent and commitment vastly exceeds theirs. Yukina mentally notes that Sayo is the only competent member of the band.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: What she ultimately turns out to be.
    • Despite her resentment and tendency to treat her like shit, it's pretty much clear that still loves and cares about Hina deep down. In "Umbrella in the Autumn Rain", it is Sayo’s love for Hina that ultimately influences her to override any sense of hatred she had towards her and be more open with her about her inferiority complex issues as the twins slowly reconcile.
    • She's bullheaded, but when she lets people in it's shown that she just wants the best for them as much as she genuinely doesn’t want to cause any real harm towards others. She's also shown to be going through her own, personal, conflicts inside.
    • The Past Aspirations and Pastel Futures event shows that even though she may be jealous of Hina for picking up the guitar much faster than she does, Sayo really does look up to her and encourages Hina to not quit playing the guitar.
    • She goes out of her way to help Rinko find a new club activity that will suit her.
    • Overall, for all her faults and shortcomings, she is never truly a bad person at heart.
  • Last-Name Basis: She calls nearly everyone except her sister Hina, Tomoe, and Tsugumi by their last names and "-san," although most of them call her by her first name.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name contains the Kanji for "Night", symbolizing how she is much more aloof and bull-headed than the sunny Nice Girl Hina.
  • Misdirected Outburst: Had this moment during the first band story of Roselia. She angrily lashes out at Ako and her other fellow band members when the former was gushing about her older sister. Granted, while she didn't truly mean it or that the reason for her outburst was understandable, it was still very unfair and uncalled for of her to take her anger and frustrations out on others who had nothing to do at all directly with her deep-seated issues and resentment towards Hina.
  • Not So Above It All:
    • Notably, she's not entirely immune to urges to fool around, like when she pretends to be disinterested in a serving of french fries only to be caught eyeing it hungrily, or when Misaki catches her eating a giant puff of cotton candy by herself at a festival. And there’s the fact that she joins Kasumi and Kokoro in believing beating the taiko drums will drive the rain away, much to Misaki’s astonishment.
Misaki: Now I’ve lost Sayo-san too! Just how many people are going to be sucked into their fantasy land!?
    • After the "Neo Fantasy Online" event where Ako and Rinko invited the rest of Roselia into playing NFO with them: Later stories, events, and area conversations show that Sayo becomes just as invested in the game as Ako and Rinko themselves.
  • The Perfectionist: She’s so particular about getting things perfectly right that not knowing what to do exactly basically forces her to stop in her tracks. In one case, she even uses a ruler in a baking class to measure the precise thickness of the dough. Yukina notices that what Sayo considers a "mistake" is being a split-second late, and acknowledges Sayo has high standards for herself. This trope gets deconstructed however as her aversion to mistakes or failure in general becomes a major stumbling block to her development as a guitarist and impedes her ability to confront deep-seated insecurities directly. Fortunately, her perfectionist inclinations gradually recede over time. While retaining a degree of strictness, she exhibits a more relaxed attitude when addressing errors during times of practice, reflecting a nuanced evolution in her approach to growth and self-improvement.
  • Perpetual Frowner: In the earlier versions and artworks, she smiles less than even Yukina, as while Yukina is simply stoic, Sayo is so serious she almost actively avoids any shows of emotion like that. When she does smile, it's either very subdued and subtle or underlined with a hint of smug confidence. Oddly enough, this is later quite toned down with Sayo smiling occasionally in artworks featuring her.
  • Rage Breaking Point: While she's distracted for much of practice shortly after hearing about Hina being in Pastel*Palettes, she goes berserk after hearing Ako gushing about her older sister, and in response angrily rants about how difficult it is to be an admirable older sister. Yukina, noticing Sayo is in no mood to practice, sends her home for the day.
  • Serious Business: Sayo practices guitar as if it’s her life purpose, and she traces almost everything she does back to either furthering her mastery of the guitar or improving Roselia as a band.
  • Shared Family Quirks: She and Hina share the same favorite food: junk food. The difference is that Sayo is embarrassed about this fact and tries to hide it.
  • Sibling Rivalry: She has a huge bone to pick with Hina, always talking shit to her and trying to not just be as successful as her in music, but outright better than her.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: With Hina. Their personalities differ like night and day.
  • Sour Outside, Sad Inside: Despite presenting herself as a no-nonsense perfectionist and a seemingly standoffish jerk, it's mainly because she resents her more successful younger twin sister and often has a lot of trouble trying to deal with her inferiority complex issues in a healthy manner. As such, there were implications wherein her Jerkass behavior was used as a coping mechanism to mostly hide how insecure she is deep down. Fortunately, she gradually becomes a much better person over time after she finds the courage to finally open up about her personal issues with Hina and her other friends.
  • Successful Sibling Syndrome: Hina is such an extremely talented individual in anything that she does that Sayo feels inferior as well as resentful towards her as a result. This serves as her primary motivation for her perfectionism when it comes to practicing the guitar, as it's the only thing Hina "can't take away from her" this time...until she learns that Hina became Pastel*Palettes's guitarist during Roselia's first Band Story...
  • Tears of Remorse: In "Umbrella in the Autumn Rain", Sayo breaks down crying after Hina comes to her with an umbrella, realizing that Hina has been kind to Sayo despite Sayo pushing her away. Sayo then ends up apologizing to Hina and finally opens up about her issues in the next scene.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Post-Character Development, while still being very serious about her guitar-playing and everything else: Sayo is making an effort herself to be a better person as much as she's currently shown to be a lot more openly friendly and considerate towards Hina and the other girls. This is best reflected in updated area conversations where she goes from acting cold and not wanting Hina's company to acting a lot more warmly and enjoying her twin's company, even smiling and playing along with the latter's antics.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: She loves french fries and always orders large portions of them when she visits the local diner.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Sibling variant. Sayo and Hina got along well when they were younger, but Sayo's growing jealousy of Hina ended up causing a rift between them. However after her Character Development, later events and stories show the two slowly reconciling with one another again.

Birthday: August 25 (Virgo)

Year: 2nd (Season 1), 3rd (Season 2), College Freshman (Season 3)

The bassist of Roselia. A childhood friend of Yukina, she stands in sharp contrast to her with her friendly and easygoing nature. She often acts as the mediator between Yukina and others, as well as the mediator between Roselia and the other bands. She follows gyaru fashion but has a secret love of knitting.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Someday, A Poem For You and Noble Rose-Bearing Flowers both heavily revolve around her position in Roselia. The former event focuses on her attempting to write lyrics for Roselia's songs, the latter focuses on her ambition for reaching the top and even shows a flashback of her and Yukina as children.
  • Ambiguously Gay: Certain lines she says and some events she's in seem to imply that her affection for Yukina goes beyond just simple friendship on her end. The fact that she joined Roselia primarily for Yukina's sake after the latter grew cold towards her over the years also point her in this direction.
  • Childhood Friends: She is Yukina's childhood friend. She looks out for her the most and shows a lot of concern over her despite the icy wall the latter has put up over the years.
  • Cool Big Sis: To most of the younger characters, who all come to her and see her as a reliable older sister figure. The Japanese fandom sometimes refer to her as "onee-san" adding further to her big sister figure in relationship to most of the other girls.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Whenever Yukina does or says something that's even remotely cute, she gets rather giddy internally.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: In a sense; the original version of the Do It Ourselves!! event story mentions that she is knitting a scarf for her younger brother. However, after the intense backlash due to the reveal (and given that it clashes with Lisa stating herself as an only child), Craft Egg released an apology, stating that it was a mistake made by one of their writers, and they fixed and patched both the event story and card stories related to the event, essentially removing any mention of her younger brother.
  • The Fashionista: Her love of fashion is one of defining characteristics. Her obvious interest in her appearance is why it's such a big deal when Yukina realizes Lisa has cut her long, well-maintained fingernails after joining the band, showing that she is truly giving her all into her place in Roselia.
  • First-Name Basis: In contrast to Yukina, Sayo and Rinko who frequently refers to others with Last-Name Basis (with few exceptions), Lisa usually calls other girls with their first names without honorifics, and is one of the few characters to do so, although she does call Marina and the Player Character with the "-san" honorifics.
  • Gyaru Girl: Follows gyaru fashion and speaks with some of the typical slang. It's noted several times that her personality contrasts with the typical image of the gyaru subculture. Notably that she keeps her interest in amigurumi a secret since it does not match her image.
  • The Heart: Overlapping with Team Mom, Lisa is the reason why Roselia is still stuck together, especially after chapter 14 of Roselia's band story.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: She often sees herself as the least skilled member of Roselia compared to her bandmates and believes that she's holding the others back. Yukina disagrees however.
  • Hidden Depths: Moca notes to herself at one point how her knitting stands in contrast with her "glamorous" street style fashion.
  • Light Feminine and Dark Feminine: She embodies this on her own (the former is her inner self, the latter her outer self).
  • The "Mom" Voice: Lisa is THE Team Mom, the one other Team Moms turn to. She tends to be on the milder end of the spectrum, preferring to use gentle reminders and encouragement rather than stern lectures. On one occasion while helping Ako fix her hair she gently reminds her to practice good time management.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Many of her cards in the game really love showing off her more feminine assets, to put it lightly.
    • Played for Laughs In-Universe in PICO~OHMORI~ episode 3. After coming to practice soaking wet, Lisa changes into Marina's tracksuit only for the rest of Roselia to realize how incredibly cute she looks. Afterward, they forego practice and instead have Lisa change into a wide variety of outfits because she looks cute in anything she wears!
  • Nice Girl: Easily the kindest and most outwardly-happy of the cast, and she's there to help ease Ako and Rinko whenever they talk to Yukina and Sayo.
  • Only Friend: Before Roselia was formed, she was this to Yukina, even back when they were still kids.
  • Say It with Hearts: Stars, in Lisa's case. Many of the conversations end up with her having a star as a punctuation mark to her sentences.
  • Secret-Keeper: Owing to her status as her childhood friend, she's initially the only one who knows about Yukina's wholesome love for cats and even knows exactly where she goes off to meet them, at least until, Arisa, Kanon, Moca, and Tsugumi find out in the Panicky Happy Valentine event.
  • The Social Expert: Befitting with her epithet, as well as Lisa's kind and charismatic personality and outgoing nature, she's able to easily know and get alone with a large array of characters. Additionally, she's quite good at selling tickets.
  • Supreme Chef: She's a great baker and whenever Yukina's mom isn't around to cook her meals for her, Lisa cooks for her in her stead.
  • Team Mom: She's the one who calms and chides the girls in the band, which balances out Yukina and Sayo's bullheadedness to the point she's basically the reason the band came together. During one of the clickable talks in the game, Rinko muses to herself that Lisa reminds her of a mother...and of course, just up and accidentally calls her that, before stammering her way out of it as Lisa questions her, confused.
    • This also get overlapped with the role of The Heart, as in the event "Don't Leave Me, Lisa!", when she is unable to take part in live practice, the other members feel lost and nervous in hours after Lisa's absence.
    • This trope also gets Deconstructed when Sayo points out that Lisa’s motherly tendencies have ended up coddling Yukina, stifling her growth and development.
    • It should be also noted that even amongst the other caretaker figures (such as Poppin' Party's Saaya, and Hello, Happy World!'s Misaki/Michelle), Lisa is the most senior of all them, making her the Team Mom to basically anyone in the entire cast aside from Yukina, her childhood friend.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: She dislikes insects (and all types of horror).

Birthday: July 3 (Cancer)
School: Haneoka Girls' Junior High School (Season 1), Haneoka Girls' High School (Season 2)
Year: 3rd (Season 1), 1st (Season 2), 2nd (Season 3)

The drummer of Roselia. A silly, energetic girl with a burning desire to be "cool," she was relentless in convincing the ever-so-strict Yukina to give her a chance to prove her talent. Her admiration for her cool older sister Tomoe (the drummer for Afterglow) as well as her love of online games have given her a certain flair for the overly dramatic.
  • Ascended Fangirl: She gets to become her own idol's drummer after Yukina personally witnesses her skills firsthand.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: As a middle schooler (and later 1st year high schooler) while everyone else is a high schooler, she is the youngest member of Roselia and the youngest band member in all five bands in Bang Dream!note .
  • Big Sister Worship: She adores her sister Tomoe and is always in awe of her.
  • Book Dumb: Cheerfully admits to Yukina in one area conversation that her grades aren't all that great.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Ako comes off as very silly and flighty due to her Chuunibyou talk and her obsession with being "cool," enough so that Yukina and Sayo don't even let her audition for Roselia at first- but her actual performance is enough to make them almost instantly change their minds. Her talent is even more impressive considering she's the youngest member of the cast.
  • Cheerful Child: Very cheery and the youngest member of the group.
  • Childhood Friends: By proxy as Tomoe's younger sister: she's also known the Afterglow girls for almost as long as Tomoe did and is friends with all of them.
  • Chuunibyou: She often pretends to be a Demon King, talks in very flowery language, and is generally very fixated on being "cool". However, she's a more realistic variant of this than most, as instead of seeming to assume that she is the character, she takes great joy in basically roleplaying being a Demon King and the like.
  • Cute Little Fangs: Which add to her childish personality and devil-like aesthetic.
  • Everyone's Baby Sister: While she's technically only a year younger than Tomoe and about two years younger than the oldest characters in the cast, most of the girls treat her like this.
  • Gamer Chick: Has a huge love for games and bonds with Rinko through this.
  • Genki Girl: She's an extremely energetic girl with a very cheerful personality, and is easily the most excitable member of Roselia. The drums just fit her.
  • Girlish Pigtails: She has them, in order to emphasise the fact that she’s among the younger characters in the series.
  • Hero Protagonist: Her initial role in Roselia's band story basically comes off like this, versus Yukina and Sayo's Girl Posse.
  • Hero Worship: Towards Yukina, who she fangirls a lot to. She's the only person Ako admits is capable of being cooler than her sister, who she also admires. She idolizes her so much that even when Yukina's harsh towards her or even if Yukina becomes the center of conflict in the group, she never wavers in her admiration of her.
  • I Just Want to Be Badass: Her life's goal is to be "cool," and she looks up to her sister and people like Kaoru a lot because of how she perceives their coolness. Around Kaoru and several others, such as Yukina and Sayo, her commentary is very often "So cool!!"
  • Innocently Insensitive: She gushes about how cool her sister Tomoe is around Sayo, unaware of the latter's issues with Hina. Sayo gets upset and lashes out, saying it's difficult to be an admirable older sister and asking what the point of existing is if you just copy your older sister.
  • It's All My Fault: She blames herself for Roselia nearly breaking up by virtue of mentioning that she and Rinko saw Yukina meeting with someone who wanted her to leave Roselia behind to play at Future World Fes. Rinko, however, contends that if Ako hadn't brought it up, the others would have found out sooner or later.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: In contrast to the other members of Roselia disliking horror on various degrees (especially Lisa), Ako is actually quite excite about them. She loves horror stories and haunted houses (the latter is that even Rimi isn't good with), something revealed in the Terrible Horror Night event story.
  • Older Than They Look: Despite only being two years younger than the other band members, Ako is very short and petite, and looks more like she's about 10 than 14-15. When depicted with her sister Tomoe (who is only a year older than Ako, but conversely has a very mature appearance for her age), the Udagawa sisters' age gap looks much larger than it actually is.
  • Perky Goth: Her wardrobe consists almost entirely of blacks and reds, she accessorizes with chains and leather, and her Chuunibyou moments involve a lot of flowery talk about "the darkness" and such, yet she's one of the most chipper and upbeat characters in the cast, especially in contrast with her bandmates.
  • The Pollyanna: Ako is very optimistic and cheerful and tends to look on the bright side of things.
  • Sibling Rivalry: A friendlier variety with Tomoe as fellow drummers aiming to be the best.
  • The Team Wannabe: In the earlier-released dialogues, Ako gets brushed off constantly, being too young and immature for Yukina and Sayo to take seriously, and even once she's actually in the band, they keep deflating her.

Birthday: October 17 (Libra)
School: Hanasakigawa Girls' High School (Seasons 1-2), Yotsuba Women's University (Fine Arts Department) (Season 3)
Year: 2nd (Season 1), 3rd (Season 2), College Freshman (Season 3)

The pianist/keyboardist of Roselia. An extremely shy girl who suffers from social anxiety, she nonetheless gets extremely passionate about topics that she cares about. She was originally friends with Ako through an online game they played, and through that connection decides to join Roselia.
  • A Day in the Limelight: In Prelude Replay, where she decides to join a competition, which caused a complicated situation as she struggles to do band rehearsals and practicing for the competition at the same time, but eventually manages to remember why she is in love with playing the piano.
  • Always Someone Better: Indirectly becomes one to her once-childhood friend Rui, who never won a music contest, at least until Rinko stops competing at some point.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She angrily snaps at Yukina for making Ako run away in tears during the "Neo-Aspect" band story event before running off in tears herself.
  • Childhood Friend: She was friends with Rui (who later joined Morfonica) in her childhood, and the two would participate in competitions, and while although Rinko becomes Always Someone Better to Rui, the former would thank the latter for reminding her how much she loves playing the piano.
  • Cute Bookworm: She loves books, and states in one of her lines that she loves all sorts of genres, from Young Adult lit to classics.
  • Elegant Classical Musician: Stands out from the rest of the keyboardists from the other bands as, having a background as a pianist, she retains her gracefulness when playing her keyboard for the gothic rock-themed Roselia.
  • Gamer Chick: Downplayed, as she doesn't fit the image of a "gamer girl" at all. She's very fond of games though, and early on in Roselia's band story she actually mostly communicates with Ako through chat. The other members of Roselia are surprised at how much she talks in-game. She can also be seen constantly thinking to herself about certain item codes she needs in-game.
  • Hero Worship: Like Ako, she holds a deep admiration towards Yukina after hearing her sing brilliantly on stage. She even admits to seeing her as her hero in her birthday line for her.
  • Hidden Buxom: In the summer event, it is revealed that her actual bust size to be quite significantly large, to the point where Lisa, Himari and Ako are impressed. To put in comparison, Rinko, along with Himari and Arisa, have the largest buxom size according to datamine of their Live2D models.
  • In-Series Nickname: Ako calls her "Rin-rin", which is similar to her in-game nickname in Neo Fantasy Online.
  • Nice Girl: Very much so, as she's quite sweet and polite to everyone, despite being that shy and asocial.
  • The Quiet One: Because of her social awkwardness and introverted, she's so quiet that she frequently stammers while speaking. On the other hand, she does get passionate on things such as piano or video games, and her computer keyboard-typing speed is an entirely different story.
  • Rapid-Fire Typing: She can type very quickly, as shown by her typing nine messages containing multiple phrases and sentences, each in quick succession, as shown in Neo Fantasy Online -Journey- event.
  • Socially Awkward Hero: In an everyday way. She's deathly afraid of attention, and stammers whenever she speaks, but she toughs it out a lot regardless and is braver than she appears.
  • Shrinking Violet: So shy that she nearly became a shut-in. Also, she's too frightened to speak in front of others, let alone perform in front of them, though she gradually goes through character development in which she gains more courage and self-confidence to overcome her stage fright.
  • Student Council President: She becomes this for Hanasakigawa High at the start of Season 2 of the anime, in hopes of improving her public speaking skills and confidence. This also applies in Girls Band Party's season 2, until her graduation in Season 3 in which she passes down the role to Misaki.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: She believes in Yukina so much that in spite of Yukina's own perceived failings, personal insecurities, and moments of weakness, Rinko knows she can overcome them thanks to the strength and passionate determination she sees in Yukina, both traits she admires in her the most. This leads to Rinko becoming the one to primarily encourage Yukina during times when she's at her lowest, like that time Yukina felt she was unworthy to sing her father's song in the "A Song Unfinished" event.
