Hello, Happy World!

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hello_happy_world_english_logo.png
Happy! Lucky! Smile! Yay!!

A... unique band on a mission to bring smiles to the entire world. They consist of Kokoro on vocals, Kaoru on guitar, Hagumi on bass, Kanon on drums and Misaki (as the mascot bear Michelle) on DJ. Their gigs are mostly for younger audiences, but there's no denying the universal appeal of their cheer. Their style is happy and eccentric J-pop.

    General
  • Comic Trio: Kokoro, Kaoru and Hagumi. Misaki calls them "the three dummies" ("san-baka").
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Big time. Misaki's the most together person in the band, and now she's stuck with wearing a weird-looking kigurumi bear outfit on-stage, every time. And three of her four bandmates are honestly convinced that she and Michelle are separate beings, no matter how much she tries to convince them otherwise.
  • Color-Coded Characters: The band is associated as a group with Yellow.
    • Kokoro: Yellow
    • Kaoru: Purple
    • Hagumi: Orange
    • Kanon: Cyan
    • Misaki/Michelle: Dark Blue/Fuschia
  • Denser and Wackier: While stories involving the other bands tend to be more grounded in reality, HHW's stories have things like flying bear suits or small European kingdoms where everyone speaks Japanese. This doesn't preclude them from having more serious stories, though.
  • For Happiness: The band's stated goal is to spread smiles across the world.
  • Four-Temperament Ensemble:
    • Kokoro is Sanguine.
    • Kaoru is Sanguine.
    • Hagumi is Choleric.
    • Kanon is Phlegmatic.
    • Misaki is Melancholic.
  • Genre Roulette: While they typically go for a circus/carnival motif in a few of their songs, overall their discography highly varies and has tackled plenty of other genres, such as hip-hop (Sekai Nobinobbi Treasure) and jazz (Goka! Gokai?! Phantom Thief).
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: They consist of some of the more eccentric characters in the cast not even counting the bear suit. They have enough of a reputation as being this that Misaki initially avoids revealing that she's a member of the band.

    Kokoro Tsurumaki

Kokoro Tsurumaki

Voiced by: Miku Itō (Japanese), Natalie Rial (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bc78185e_8f9d_4990_8816_45914e293534.png
Birthday: August 8 (Leo)
School: Hanasakigawa Girls' High School
Year: 1st (Season 1), 2nd (Season 2), 3rd (Season 3)

The vocalist of Hello, Happy World!. Born into an obscenely wealthy family and possibly the most idealistic person in the universe, Kokoro founded the band with the goal of "making the whole world smile." Never seen without a huge smile on her face, her boundless optimism sometimes seems to border on lunacy. She easily get people caught up in her charisma, although her band often has to rely on its more grounded members to focus long enough to get anything done.
  • All-Loving Hero: Kokoro sees herself as this, and she's earnest in her love of spreading happiness, but her refusal to hear or acknowledge the word "no" causes a lot of trouble, even if her pushing people forward can eventually help them out.
  • Auntie Pennybags: She comes from a rich family, who shows it with the impeccably big mansion they live in. And yet she's a happy-go-lucky girl who just wants to spread happiness to everyone. She'll use her wealth to give her friends a good time, whether it be providing them with instruments for the band, inviting them to her house for sakura viewing, or even taking them aboard a private full-fledged cruise.
  • Birds of a Feather: With Kasumi, who coincidentally shares both being the vocalist, the charismatic leader of their respective bands, and a fellow Genki Girl. Kasumi is notably one of the few people that share the same enthusiastic mental wavelength with her.
  • Book Dumb: Somewhat inverted - she seems to find reading fun, but she can be a bit ditzy and too idealistic for her own good.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Blond with bright yellow eyes, going along with her all-encompassing sunny personality.
  • Ditzy Genius: She is charismatic, able to read others like a book, and can pick up new skills very quickly like Hina, but lacks common sense.
  • Dumb Blonde: Yes, she's blonde. And yes, she's not exactly the brightest bulb in the box. However, she makes up for it with her personality, sheer enthusiasm and energy (see below).
  • Fiction 500: Apparently, her family is so rich that she can book a cruise for herself and her four bandmates and have it ready by the evening, with her black-suited servants not batting an eye. In one card Episode, she also mentions having a private jet that she can have prepared just as quickly. In one event story, it's implied that Kokoro's parents have the clout to endanger the careers of teachers who upset her.
  • First-Name Basis: She refers to everyone by their first name, without honorifics.
  • Fun Personified: She acts as if she's hardwired to look for the most fun way to do anything at any given moment, like thinking a shopping mall is nice, but could definitely use a roller coaster.
  • Genki Girl: Her practically-infinite youthful energy could power an entire village.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She has bright blonde hair that matches her bright personality and her desire to make the world smile.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite her Cloudcuckoolander personality, she seems to be able to read people perfectly. In one of her card episodes, she tells Misaki that Kaoru uses things like Shakespeare misquotes as a facade and is actually quite shy, that Hagumi actually prefers cute things but doesn't feel confident in her own femininity and so acts like a tomboy, and that Kanon is actually the bravest girl in the band for how hard she tries despite her constant anxiety... before affirming her belief that Michelle is a real member of the band.
  • I Choose to Stay: In "Niconiconnect," she declares that she's going to stay in Happinell to make sure Princess Nicolina has a reason to smile after their concert ends, reassuring her bandmates that she'll still commute to Japan for band activities. She changes her mind after realizing that she wouldn't be able to have fun without her friends in Hello, Happy World!.
  • The Idealist: Her dream is to see the smile of the world. At one point Misaki interjects that maybe they should try to go for the smile of people in Japan first.
  • Idiot Hero: Comes off like this, as despite her charismatic personality suited for leadership, without Misaki or Kanon around, not much would ever actually get done from the sound of some of the conversations she, Kaoru and Hagumi have with each other.
  • Innocently Insensitive:
    • Her most notable flaw is that despite being an All-Loving Hero who genuinely wants to make the whole world smile, she tends to be pushy about it and often doesn't take other people's feelings into account when trying to make them happy.
    • Her seeming inability to process negative emotions can also frustrate others. This comes to a head in HHW's third band story, where Kokoro saying that she wouldn't feel lonely if she left her bandmates behind shocks the rest of the band and angers Misaki even though Kokoro soon realizes that she was wrong.
  • It's All About Me: Although she always tries to make people happy, she has a tendency to not consider what they might be thinking, albeit unintentionally. A major part of Hello, Happy World!'s story is Kokoro learning that what makes her happy doesn't necessarily make other people happy.
  • Kiddie Kid: She's a 15-16 year old teenager, yet she has the mentality of a young child due to her extremely idealistic outlook on life and tendency to get excited over small things.
  • Knight Templar Parent: Implied in one event cutscene, where a teacher is about to scold Kokoro for being on the school roof at night, only to realize that if she were to upset her, the immensely wealthy Tsurumaki family could easily make her lose her teaching post.
  • The Leader: Actually subverted in that while she's charismatic and draws people to her, it becomes apparent she wouldn't really get much done without Kanon and Misaki around, i.e., the two level-headed people in the group.
  • Magnetic Hero: Unlike Roselia, who take a number of chapters in their band story to fully assemble, Poppin' Party, who had an entire season of an anime to work themselves into a group, and Pasupare, who are formed by a company but have trouble adjusting to and understanding each other, Kokoro very quickly sweeps all the Hello, Happy World! girls into her pace, to the point Misaki, who is very much against the idea and wary of her status and bubbly personality, is alarmed by how easily she'd gotten caught up in it.
  • The Men in Black: Or rather, the Women In Black. Her family has a squad of women in sunglasses and black suits as personal servants.
  • Motor Mouth: She sings some of the fastest songs in the franchise, most famously "Maware! Setsugetsuka".
  • Nightmare Fetishist: Though it might be mostly because Kokoro just loves everything, but as of the "Band Girls of the Dead" event story, after watching a horror movie about zombies and it's spin-off manga series brought by Rimi, she finds horror stories to be really fun, much like Rimi herself.
  • Non-Idle Rich: She's from an obscenely rich family, but she founded the band because she genuinely wants to make other people happy.
  • Perpetual Smiler: She is always seen with a big, happy grin on her face and it's very rare to see her with anything but one. One card story has her outright state that she doesn't understand negative emotions like "stress."
  • Ojou: She doesn't have the personality, but she's nonetheless very well-off, with bodyguards around and everything.
  • Spoiled Sweet: Born into an obscenely wealthy family, she's pampered and sheltered. She's possibly the most idealistic person in the universe. She even founded the band with the goal of "making the whole world smile". Never seen without a huge smile on her face, her boundless optimism sometimes seems to border on lunacy. She easily get people caught up by her easy, ditzy charm.
  • The Troublemaker: She is Rich in Dollars, Poor in Sense, and also Spoiled Sweet. She just wants to make the whole world smile. And the lengths she'll go to for that know no bounds, such as transforming Misaki's Michelle costume into a fully functional flight suit that Tony Stark would be proud of.
  • Wealthy Yacht Owner: A yacht? Psh. Her family owns a cruise. Which Kokoro can just casually book for herself and her friends and then set sail on on the same day. Said cruise features a casino, a gift shop, and a restaurant where the chefs will make anything asked of them.
  • What Is This Feeling?: "Niconiconnect" sees her increasingly confused upon being unable to think of fun things to do without her band, culminating in her crying for the first time.

    Kaoru Seta

Kaoru Seta

Voiced by: Azusa Tadokoro (Japanese), Shanae'a Moore (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/f39476d3_ec3c_44aa_8120_a08748b5bf01.png
Birthday: February 28 (Pisces)
School: Haneoka Girls' High School (Seasons 1-2), Yotsuba Women's University (Fine Arts Department) (Season 3)
Year: 2nd (Season 1), 3rd (Season 2), College Freshman (Season 3)

The guitarist of Hello, Happy World. A theater performer, Kaoru is always engaging in verbal theatrics both on and off the theater stage, making fans (whom she dubs her "little kittens") swoon for her. It's not always clear how much Kaoru understands what she's saying, and whether or not she can actually "turn off" her theater persona. Despite her flamboyance, however, she's a surprisingly reliable friend and senpai to the others.
  • Ambiguously Gay: She often wears masculine clothing, calls herself a prince, and often flirts with the other girls. What may not be immediately obvious to non-Japanese players is that Kaoru is an over the top parody of a 'tachi' lesbian (these being one half of what's called the 'tachineko' dynamic, prominent in the Tokyo lesbian dating scene). These being girls who, at least stereotypically, are bifauxnens with large harems of fangirls called neko (hence, the "kitten" bit) that they take care of and provide for. Given her Large Ham personality, it's not entirely clear if she really is trying to flirt with the other girls or she simply doesn't realize how over-the-top her actions are.
  • Attention Whore: Occasionally gets called out by Chisato about this. It's hard to tell if it's simply because she wants to be surrounded by adoring fangirls, or is genuinely spacey enough not to realize how bombastic she comes off, or if it's become a way of life for her to the point she doesn't notice one way or another. The way she calls girls "kittens" even when she's not trying to be flirtatious might point to the latter, but there are some bare hints that imply she's very aware of the downsides of her persona, such as when Misaki says something she's drinking doesn't fit her image, and she very quietly says "but I like this [kind of soup]."
    • While it's ambiguous if she's bothered by it or not since she uses her same tone of voice as ever (if notably much calmer than the times when she goes very extra), in the talk wherein her fangirls feature, it's shown she can have trouble getting space to herself.
  • Bifauxnen: She almost exclusively dresses in masculine clothing and acts out a princely persona. Given her acting background and her popularity with girls she's an exaggeration of the otokoyaku role in Takarazuka Revue, a woman who plays a male character and is simultaneously an ideal prince and a safe fellow woman for girls to admire.
  • Catchphrase: "Fleeting..." and to a lesser extent, "It is but that."
  • The Charmer: A female version of this, as she pretty much flirts or uses flirtatious language towards the girls who like being flirted with. An interesting case in that that Cloudcuckoolander language carries over in conversations as a friend, too.
  • Chick Magnet: A lot of girls are drawn to her, in a heart eyes/fawning or in a more friendship-inclined way.
  • Childhood Friends: With Chisato. They grew up in the acting business.
  • Cold Ham: She's not overtly loud like Kasumi, but her theatrical prose and her grandiose gestures nonetheless give her a very flamboyant and larger-than-life presence.
  • Cool Big Sis: She can pull this off rather well. In the Tomoe wedding card's unlockable story, she was basically this to Ako.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: "Kao-chan", Chisato's nickname for her from when they were Childhood Friends, is enough to turn her into a stuttering wreck.
  • Establishing Character Moment: In HHW's band story, she's first seen in the middle of a theater performance, and is then asked afterwards by Kokoro to join. Then, in a unique CG, she gives Kokoro and Kanon (and the player) a hell of a first impression by taking Kokoro's hand, getting on one knee, and going into Purple Prose about how wonderful Kokoro is while sparkly roses line the CG, showing that her flashy, flamboyant theater persona isn't just confined to the stage.
  • Even the Girls Want Her: More like especially. While not every girl in the cast fall for her looks and style and manner of speech, the ones that do fall hard, the main ones among the cast being Himari and Rimi — Rimi to the point she doesn't really make comprehensible sentences around her. Outside the cast, it's highly implied she has a lot of fangirls, with a clickable talk featuring them at one point.
  • Hidden Depths: She's actually a very good upperclassmen and reliable friend in general, and when those around her are worried or scared, does her best to cheer them up and help them. In the wedding event it's even very vaguely implied that she might've upped her ridiculous speech to help Saaya relax.
  • I Hate Past Me: Subverted. Chisato certained thinks this is the case which is why she is so aloof with Kaoru, since she prefered the shy Kaoru of their childhood she could be honest with. The Shadows of Days Past Remain clarifies that Kaoru herself holds no shame towards her younger self as a person but rather her inability to stand up for Chisato. Her princely persona was not created to escape the past but rather to make up for it by giving strength to girls who have confidence issues (which explains why she's especially affectionate towards Rimi and Kanon) like she did.
  • Large Ham: Veeeery much so in-universe. She gratuitously quotes (or misquotes) Shakespeare, and uses spacey, superfluous-sounding language pretty much constantly when she's playing it up, which is often. Frequently involves the word "fleeting" and the imagery of a prince (her) and princess(es), and her arms flying everywhere whenever she speaks in-game (that Ako even copies at one point). Interestingly, in more low-key, casual conversations and when she's by herself, she does tend to drop most of the hamminess, if not all of it.
  • Nice Girl: Underneath all her flair for dramatics, there's a very kind personality.
  • Performance Artist: A flamboyant actress who's really into the idea of Shakespeare and very flirty around girls. This gets her picked to play the role of a Phantom Thief aboard the Tsurumaki family's private cruise in a story event.
  • Phantom Thief: One event has her playing the role of one while aboard the Tsurumaki family's cruise, pretending to kidnap Kanon to provide their bandmates with entertainment.
  • Princely Young Man: The female variant, which leads her to be put in more princely roles and songs (such as for "Romeo"), and for girls to flock to her gentlemanly aura.
  • Purple Prose: It would be easier to count the number of lines she has where she isn't hamming it up with her usual poetic way of talking.
  • Shrinking Violet: Kokoro says in one of her cards that Kaoru is actually very shy underneath her theatrics. The "A Rose's Name in a Transient World" event expands on this by having Chisato say that she Kaoru she knew hid behind the then taller Chisato when frightened.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: Kaoru's image is crafted entirely around this, being the "princely bifauxnen" common in yuri series since the 1970s.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: While she's not the only character in the game to wear boyish clothing, she's the one most likely to do it with the implication of "princely attire" or the like.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Is afraid of heights.

    Hagumi Kitazawa

Hagumi Kitazawa

Voiced by: Yuri Yoshida (Japanese), Elizabeth Byrd (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/9f45ff47_dad5_411a_b6a2_4cd89b4b4cc8.png
Birthday: July 30 (Leo)
School: Hanasakigawa Girls' High School
Year: 1st (Season 1), 2nd (Season 2), 3rd (Season 3)

The bassist for Hello, Happy World!. Energetic and sporty, her passion for sports carries over into her passion for her band. Although she's a tomboy in her hobbies, she also loves cute things. She cheerfully acts without thinking at times and tends to be on the same wavelength as Kokoro and Kaoru. Her family runs a butcher shop famous for their croquettes.
  • Animal Motifs: She's commonly associated with bears, as several of her outfits have bear motifs.
  • Book Dumb: She directly admits to be bad at studying. It's also visible in one of the one-frame comics in the game's loading screen. Although, she tries to remedy this by receiving tutor lessons from Hina.
  • Boyish Short Hair: She has the shortest hair length out of the entire cast and is also one of the most tomboyish and athletic.
  • Captain Ersatz: She's very much a lookalike of and similar in her cheery personality and athleticism to Rin Hoshizora of Love Live!.
  • Childhood Friends: With Kasumi. She didn't recognize Kasumi until she remove her cat ears, since Kasumi used to wear twin tails when she was younger.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Orange hair and orange eyes. Not only that, but she likes to dress up in orange shades, too.
  • Cuteness Proximity: She really likes cute things and is particularly fond of Michelle to the point where she glomps her in one card story.
  • Dysfunctional Family: Her family isn't abusive, as she gets along well with her parents and has a nice room to sleep in (thus averting Bad Bedroom, Bad Life), but her parents fight a lot to the point where her mother broke a tub out of anger, and her father has a tendency to leave the house for several days after arguments.
  • Genki Girl: She's one of the more hyperactive characters in the cast, though she usually doesn't go too overboard with it. At one point in the main story she sends things crashing in the practice studio because she was trying to show off some cool moves.
  • Girls Love Stuffed Animals: Very in love with Michelle's design for its cute beariness (in her opinion).
  • Lovable Jock: She actually scares Kanon a lot whenever she convinces her into doing something sporty because of how hard she expects everyone else to be able to go at it, like her.
  • Nervous Wreck: Contrary to appearances, even though it's subtler than Kanon's frequent fretting, she's actually the first to become anxious aside from her if things look as if they're going south, especially compared to Kokoro. It's made particularly apparent in Hello Happy's Phantom Thief event, when Kanon isn't present.
  • Nice Girl:
    • She’s very kindhearted, and halfway through HHW’s band story, she does everything she can to try and make an injured girl happy again.
    • Throughout the “Tearful Smile Anchor” event, she gets unhappy when thinking about the concept of winning and losing, as she just wants everyone to have fun equally.
  • The Nicknamer: Nicknames several of her friends, such as "Kaa-kun" for Kasumi, "Kokoron" for Kokoro, "Mii-kun" for Misaki and "Kano-chan-senpai" for Kanon.
  • Passionate Sports Girl: Loves sports and physical activity in general, and is very excitable.
  • Third-Person Person: One of the characters who does refer to herself in third person with the first name, although unlike Moca, Ako, or PAREO, Hagumi has consistently used her own name as a self-pronoun.
  • Tomboy: Kokoro says in one of her 3* cards' unlockable stories that while Hagumi likes cute things a lot, she's pretty tomboyish in other regards, particularly her penchant for sports.
  • Tomboy Angst:
    • She's implied to have a complex about her boyish appearance, as shown in the Episode card story for ''Michelle's Secret'':
Hagumi: That's awesome, Michelle. You're so pink and cute. I'm actually so jealous. (...) I could never look good in pink. Especially with people always confusing me for a boy... I actually wish I could be more like you.
    • In the animation in her first Kirameki Festival card, even though she does enjoy seeing at the flower accessories because they look cute, she's nervous about wearing them, until Kokoro puts on the accessories on her.
  • Vibrant Orange: Her image color, hair and eyes are orange, and coincidentally, she's also an energetic and friendly girl.
  • When You Coming Home, Dad?:
    • Inverted in one of her unlockable stories revealed that her parents had once fought to the point that her mom broke the family's tub. When her mom calmed down, she revealed that they were upset because they missed Hagumi being home more often.
    • Also played straight in that as a result of that argument, her dad went out "for a run" and didn't come back for 3 days. And apparently, it wasn't even the first time he did so.

    Kanon Matsubara

Kanon Matsubara

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4dc9c12c_ae82_43ed_aed8_248fb5b52373.png
Birthday: May 11 (Taurus)
School: Hanasakigawa Girls' High School (Seasons 1-2), Keiho Women's University (Literature Department) (Season 3)
Year: 2nd (Season 1), 3rd (Season 2), College Freshman (Season 3)

The drummer for Hello, Happy World!. A shy girl who happened to be in the place for Kokoro to scout her against her wishes. She is easily flustered and quick to tears, but being in the band has made her a more cheerful and outgoing person, if only a little. As one of the more sensible members of Hello, Happy World!, she helps to ground the band in reality, although she is easily driven around by Kokoro's relentless pace.
  • A Day In The Lime Light: Gets one in the event Little Smiley Steps, in which she takes care of a penguin who is just as timid as herself, and in the process starts gaining the courage to do things that she want to by rescuing the penguin. She manages to be an effective caretaker for the penguin, that the penguin overcomes its fears, and gets the penguin to smile.
  • Animal Motifs: She is associated with both jellyfishes and penguins:
    • She likes watching jellyfishes, and her association with the jellyfish indicates her initial shyness and being easily flustered (prior to character development), having a hard time saying "no" to others. However, she eventually grows out of the former qualities and become more confident to do more assertive things. For example, in the 1-panel comic with Tae, who remaks that Kanon was brave enough to touch a jellyfish despite the fact it stings and makes her hand swells like a balloon.
    • For penguins, she happens to be quite cheerful (especially after her character development), but is also quite clumsy and often gets lost like them. In the event Little Smiley Steps, she helps a penguin who is just as anxious as her, to get it becoming more confident and make it smile.
  • Childhood Friends: She was one of Chisato's friends in childhood, and given the latter's career as a child actress, one of her very few real, close friends.
  • The Confidant: Unwittingly for Misaki, because they're not really trying to keep her being Michelle a secret. The other three are just that spacey, despite Misaki giving it away pretty often.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: In addition to her anxious and shy personality, she is also noted as very clumsy. One of her lines in various menus in Girls Band Party! implies that she breaks her drumsticks quite often. Despite that, she's a much better artist than Chisato is.
  • Extreme Doormat: She can't bring herself to turn down others' requests; this persists even after she becomes less shy and more confident.
  • Grew a Spine: While she started as a Shrinking Violet and a Nervous Wreck, she eventually overcomes that gradually and becomes more confident on making decisions. Compare her Season 1 character introduction video, with her Season 2 character introduction video. Nonetheless, it's slightly downplayed because she still can't bring herself to say "no" to others.
  • Identical Stranger: With Princess Nicolina in "Niconiconnect". The only differences between them are their clothes and personality, with Nicolina having the pre-development Kanon's extremely shy nature.
  • Nervous Wreck: A part of her personality during Season 1 in-game. Getting caught up in Hello Happy World's pace can leave her pretty flustered, too.
  • Nice Girl: She's a sweet, gentle, caring and kind girl, who also has hard time turning down requests from other people. This becomes her primary defining attribute from In-Game Season 2 onwards as she's grown confident enough and is less likely to fluster.
  • No Sense of Direction:
    • Many "talks" show that she gets lost very easily. She even gets lost around places that she's familiar with. Usually, Hagumi and Kaoru are the ones who always finds her when she gets lost.
    • She's also bad at using trains and other public transportation, much like her childhood friend, Chisato.
  • Only Sane Man: Among Hello Happy World, she's the second-most responsible and more-or-less sensible, but her fretting and getting easily swept up dampens it, and unlike Misaki, gets caught up daydreaming about things like jellyfish.
  • Prone to Tears: In the first season and early in-game events as well as the second season of the main anime, she's notably easy to cry. It doesn't help she is easily flustered.
  • Shrinking Violet: While Kaoru is later revealed to have a shyer side under her Large Ham persona, Kanon is still the most visibly shy and nervous member of the band. She gradually overcomes this and becomes more confident over time.
  • Shy Blue-Haired Girl: She has light blue hair and is easily the shyest girl in the group. Kokoro bursts into Kanon's life and drags her out of her shell screaming, and while Kanon's terrified, she eventually starts becoming a little more outgoing now.
  • Took a Level in Cheerfulness: Gradually becomes less of a Nervous Wreck as time goes on. Compare some of her older cards, where she's visibly nervous and tearing up, to her newer cards, where she noticeably looks much happier.
  • Verbal Tic: Her distinct "fueee..." when she becomes flustered.

Birthday: October 1 (Libra)
School: Hanasakigawa Girls' High School
Year: 1st (Season 1), 2nd (Season 2), 3rd (Season 3)

The DJ for Hello, Happy World!. Misaki was roped into the band by Kokoro against her will, but she eventually realizes she enjoys being a member. A bit socially awkward and rather blunt, she's also by far the most grounded member of the band, but even she can't always escape their tumultuous inertia. When she's on stage, she's dressed up as Michelle, a teddy bear mascot.
  • Animal Motif: Like Hagumi, she's heavily associate with bears, but in a justifiable reason as she wears the Michelle costume both on-stage and during her part-time job.
  • Badly Battered Babysitter: She's basically the caretaker of her band, who has to deal with three (and a half, since Kanon isn't as reliable to keep the other three at bay due to being easily overwhelmed) kids, and she is quite the Butt-Monkey indeed that takes all of the antics of the Hello, Happy World! members.
  • Butt-Monkey:
    • While she sometimes has it rough in Hello, Happy World! thanks to Kokoro's antics, it's nowhere near as bad as how she's treated in Garupa Pico (though she has a contender in Marina, who has it worse). The abuse she goes through includes, but isn't limited to: getting left behind at a Michelle-themed amusement park where everyone is wearing the exact same suit, falling to her death while skydiving, and getting stranded on a snowy mountain with the rest of the band (and presumably freezing to death)...
    • She doesn't have it much better in Season 2 of the anime. During one of their performances, Kokoro jumps off the band's hot air balloon, forcing Misaki to follow short in order to rescue her. She has difficulty activating her suit's ability to fly and freaks out before she can get the controls right.
  • Cassandra Truth: Every time she tells or even shows her bandmates that she is the one in the Michelle costume, everyone who isn't Kanon doesn't believe her. As far as they are concerned, Misaki is a friend of Michelle. At a certain point Misaki decides that it's too much trouble to explain her true identity to everyone.
  • Cosplay: You'd think it'd be more of a mystery, but it's given away pretty quickly that the kigurumi Michelle is her. She's basically stuck with the costume.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: She has it tough with a band like Hello, Happy World!, playing this to 3 people and all in all doing most of the actual band management.
  • The Cynic: One of the highly pessimistic characters in the franchise. At the mention of most plans, she takes ten steps back to comment on various things she believes will go wrong, or outright claims that everything wouldn't go well. Her cynicism is accented by HHW's antics and continuous unexpected and goofy adventures. While she thinks it's necessary to keep the band members in check, she doesn't really like the negativity that she's known by.
Misaki: I'm kinda annoyed, being such a negative Nancy and all.
    • In Kokoro's initial 3-star card episode where she's asked her opinion on HHW's members, she confronts Misaki with that.
Kokoro: It's just... you... always worry. You're always unhappy with how things turn out, but if by chance you're not, you hide your true feelings. You're always like, "I don't really care," or "this probably won't work." Even when it's actually something you really like. I just wish you would say it, but you're always so negative.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Most obvious in how dismissive she is in her lines during the game's lives, but there's plenty of that in her during her clickable talks, HHW's band story, and the main story.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: The amount of times Kokoro forgets who she is (to the point Misaki has menu dialogue wondering if she will be remembered that day) can certainly give the impression that she's ignored and unwanted. Her frustration over this gets played for drama during Hello! Happy World's second Band Story.
  • Goofy Suit: She only applied for a job that paid really well and had flexible hours without knowing too many details about it, only to end up in a mascot bear outfit in the shopping district, where she happened to run into Kokoro. When Misaki quits the job, both to escape Kokoro's band and because the mascot job sucks, Kokoro's suits buy the rights to the character to get her to keep wearing it.
  • Hypercompetent Sidekick: At first Kokoro doesn’t even realize that Misaki, as Michelle, is an actual member of the band, but Misaki is largely the reason Hello, Happy World! gets anywhere in the first place and doesn’t accidentally cause any trouble, given who’s at the helm. She writes their lyrics and organizes their shows, on top of her duties as Michelle. Although she initially grumbles at this, its when Kokoro, Kaoru and Hagumi begin to take those jobs onto themselves in "I Need You!" that Misaki begins to question her place in the band.
  • I Am Not A Weasel: Michelle has been confused for another animals despite being clearly a bear. Himari initially thought Michelle is a dog, Hina mistook Michelle for a lion, and Yukina at one point imagines that Michelle is a cat.
  • Identity Breakdown: In Garupa PICO ~ OHMORI ~ Episode 6, it seems Misaki embraced her identity as Michelle too much to the point that her mental stability is "broken", in the words of Kanon, when she can't wear the Michelle suit for a few days. In a specific shot she hallucinates another bear mascot for Michelle and starts physically assaulting the poor mascot, screaming about how SHE is Michelle.
  • Konami Code: In Episode 4 of Bang Dream! Season 2 of the anime, Misaki uses this to activate the flight mode within Michelle.
  • Like a Duck Takes to Water: A few area conversations imply that Misaki didn't know anything about DJ-ing before getting roped into the band, and yet quickly picked up the real skills for "Michelle."
  • Living a Double Life: The whole deal with her being Michelle. Other characters apart from Kaoru, Kokoro, and Hagumi seem to believe that Misaki and Michelle are separate identities. They include Hina and Mashiro, as well as Moca, although she probably does so to mess with Misaki, given her nature.
  • Loves My Alter Ego: Misaki believes that the other members of HHW, except Kanon, like Michelle more than her. Kokoro's initial dismissive behavior towards her and gushing over Michelle doesn't help matters.
  • No Social Skills: A bit—she can actually be a bit too blunt sometimes, and doesn't catch cues all the time.
  • Not So Above It All: Despite her frequent protests about being in the band, as time goes on she finds herself more and more invested in their antics, such as cheering up Akari in their story mode.
  • Not What It Looks Like: In her card episode "A Confession of Love", while trying her best embarrassingly at practicing a proper love confession with Kaoru, they're interrupted by Hagumi who gets the wrong idea. Hagumi promises she won't tell, even though Misaki insists there was nothing going on.
  • Only Sane Man: A lot of Hello Happy World's band [origin] story is told from her viewpoint more or less, possibly in part to keep said story from being swept away by the wackiness of Kokoro, Kaoru and Hagumi, though there's some hints that each of the three have Hidden Depths...
  • Princess for a Day: Well, a few minutes. Episode 21 of Garupa PICO FEVER! has the members of Hello, Happy World! switch bodies, and Misaki takes the place of Kokoro. Almost immediately, she gets to experience some of the Tsurumaki heir's daily activities such as tea time and spa, all the while being surrounded by maids. Her reaction to that experience is mostly overshadowed by her worry over the whereabouts of the rest of the band, but she does express disgust at the type of tea served to her.
  • Pulled from Your Day Off: Usually when she's trying to relax for once, whether on the beach, in a Christmas party, or a trip to the hot springs, Kokoro announces that they need to have a concert, like, right now. For Misaki, this means having to don on the Michelle suit and force herself to match Kokoro's energy for the live to be successful, and exerting energy is something Misaki doesn't really like.
  • Sixth Ranger: A somewhat bizarre example, since Kokoro, Kaoru and Hagumi consider Michelle and Misaki to be separate people. To them, Michelle is their DJ and fifth member, while Misaki is their sixth member who helps them behind the scenes.
  • Sore Loser: In the "Blossoming in Largo" event, Misaki starts complaining when she witnesses Sayo constantly returning the ball hits from the back during a game of tennis (in which Rinko gives a try on the tennis club), despite that Sayo and Rinko are beginners for tennis and Misaki did set herself on a one-on-two match on purpose.
  • Sour Supporter: She initially only sticks with the band because she can't find a good time to quit, and she mostly reacts to Kokoro's ideals with snark. As time goes on though, she becomes more and more invested in the band to the point where the Hello, My Happy World! event deals with Misaki realizing that she genuinely enjoys being a member of HaroHapi.
  • Student Council President: She fills this role for Hanasakigawa High in Season 3 in-game, after the previous president, Rinko, graduated along with other third-years.
  • Supporting Protagonist: A bunch of HHW's band story is from her perspective, but Kokoro is the band's leader and The Hero in it.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: She's one of the more tomboyish girls thanks to her fashion choices, interest in tennis and snarky personality, but she likes making felt dolls as a hobby.
  • You Keep Using That Word: She's usually the most to call out Kaoru's excessive use of the word "fleeting" without really knowing what it means.
