I want to link to this video of Paul Heyman giving a public lecture on Wrestling 101, because Paul Heyman is still one of the greatest bookers in history and this really does summarise the basics incredibly well, but I'm not sure how to integrate it in. Just putting it in a section at the front saying "First things first, watch this" feels clunky. Anyone have any suggestions?

Wrestlelamia uploaded a video some days ago with 11 reasons why people are turning off on the WWE. Perhaps something from this can be useful for the page?

Some of the numbers are messing up. I don't know why or how to fix it.

So, who launched this page? This doesn't seem like something that should have been launched lightly. Was there a thread somewhere discussing how to go about it prior?

There are a few people editing and arguing in their editing reasons but do any of them have booking experience? Or know someone with booking experience? Or are sourcing something written by someone with such? Or really, any qualification that could be put on a resume or used in an interview if applying to be a booker?

Maybe if you guys do know a person (or four) like that you should get them to look at this page and offer their advice. I suppose I could get in contact with a wrestler, maybe two but I know no bookers, neither as friends nor acquaintances.

No, these pages don't have a creation procedure.

Either way, it seems too long for its own good. Not in the "too much information" kind of way but in the "um actually, except if, corollary type of way". While not a conversation on the main page, you can tell there is a struggle gong on (sadly, some of the edit history appears to be deleted, it does not go all the way back to the page's creation)

That is not to say bookers would not do the same amongst each other and not make statements just barely on topic but they could provide insight the rest of us may never have all the same. We can all look at invasion and say what is wrong with it, we can tell when a wrestler botches a spot, but telling someone how to do a job is a long step away from pointing out mistakes.

Re: Business Ethics #2: What if the wrestler with the Role-Ending Misdemeanor is important to the current promotion series? You can't just drop the persona off-screen, the fans might question, threatening the Willing Suspension of Disbelief. Sure the personas are part of the business, but so are the storylines.

Here's my thoughts:

  • If it's just a heel's Mook, then, and only then, is off-screen an option. Alternately, the chief heel could use the guy to be the Bearer of Bad News and go Bad Boss on him accordingly.
  • If it's a member of the Five Bad Band, and it's time for a Heel->Face Turning Point, use the persona as the loser in the turning point match. (Just make sure it's believable.)
  • Alternately, unless the persona in question is a Worthy Opponent, a failed Starscream attempt may be in order.
  • If it's the Big Bad himself, have a successful Starscream if a Dragon is getting good hype. Or have the faces take down the Big Bad early but keep the story going with a Dragon Ascendant. Alternately, you can summon The Man Behind the Man with extreme caution. Remember: The Storyline is part of your business and a Shocking Swerve in the heel faction's motives is bad for business.
  • If it's a face, then a heel will have to take the guy down. See #9 under The Product: "Heels vs Faces".

The key to all of these options is that in-ring punishment needs to be limited to one loss followed by removal from the storyline. The loss is necessary in that it provides in-story justification for the removal. After this, the wrestler cannot fight until the disciplinary process is ended. If the promotion is still going on, then the persona can be The Cavalry if a face, or, if heel, some comeback story indicative of their persona. If it isn't then they're in line for the next one. And if they're fired? Well, there's a reason why a certain Trope is called Noone Could Have Survived That.

EDIT: And, yes, do NOT subject any wrestler that's not a Jobber to The Worf Effect.

It's funny how the page talks about not punishing wrestlers for Real Life misdemeanors, if only because of how, in my Fan Fiction series The JWL, I have actually done that several times.

I canned Bradshaw for doing the Nazi salute in Germany.

I canned Lita for the Matt Hardy -Lita-Edge mess. (Matt had already been punished in Real Life, and I didn't have Edge on my roster.) I didn't want to do it, but, I felt I had to do it. As The Ramones sang in "Here Today Gone Tomorrow," "Someone had to pay the price."

I canned Rob Van Dam for his 2006 drug bust, and Kurt Angle for his drug/stalking arrest in 2009.

I canned Gangrel for his taking a side gig directing porn films.
