As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site.
Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it.
Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.
Important things to know:
- We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
- Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
- Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.
Make a Tech Wish:
openAn icon for the memes tab
It's there a way for the meme subpage of an article have an icon like all the other subpages? Posibly we would need a consensus on what would work best, but still.
open"Not natter" message in Issue Helper
A simple "not natter" pre-generated message in Issue Helper, for edits that either remove something the editor doesn't like under the guise of 'natter', or for edits given the edit reason of "natter", but removed something against the rules that was not, in fact, natter.
Edited by FishiousRendopenIcon for disambigs
An icon for disambiguation pages like what comes up if you put a ymmv or trivia example on the work's main page except appearing on all work subpages as well, to help discourage linking to split, renamed, or otherwise defunct tropes kept around as fanspeak or a simple disambiguation
openA menu for reporting users
As discussed here, as a way to potentially minimize unnecessary minimodding and save time of actual mods, a notification about what rule is broken from a selectable list would be convinient for everyone. And also if no rules are broken then mods won't need to review every ATT if it's just an editing debate. It can be added to edits (like Edit Notifier), ATT's and forum's (...) button or user's profile. It actually sounds like a general upgrade for Holler.
openA way to see the recent wick alterations in the "Related Pages" for the pages you follow.
It's a long-time pet peeve of mine when it comes to viewing the "Related Pages" section, when there's hundred of wicks, and you see that a number of them is increased/decreased by one, but you can't find out where among the sea of wicks. The particular issue I have is the fact that I'm reviewing Bee Afraid's related wicks, and when a new wick is added, I can't see where a new wick is, and I can't tell whether it uses the old definition (defined by Scary Stinging Swarm) or current one.
What I'm proposing is a way to see on what page a wick to the page you follow was added/removed, either via notifications, or by adding a "history page" of sorts to "Related Pages" section, or whatever new method one can come up with.
openRestoring a page's history
I'd appreciate it if restoring a page also restored its history, if there's a way to make that happen.
openNotify me whenever pages I follow update.
So, I've just had some discussion with Septimus Heap regarding what I thought was the Follow feature not working, but as it turns out, said feature works more like the Favorite feature on Fanfiction.net (which also has a feature called "Following"), which simply lists fics or authors of a user's choice in update order.
Basically, I would like a feature that actually alerts me whenever a given page gets updated, for whenever I next visit the wiki itself, similar to how users get notified when they receive a PM. That way, I won't keep having to visit, in my case, Game Gourmet, a million times a day just to see if anythings has been changed or any new examples have been added. I already visit this wiki quite often for other things, so something like that would really help me be less obsessive-compulsive.
Edited by SeaRoveropenPlace to Find Newest Works
It would be useful if there was someplace that had a list of the newest work pages launched or something similar (like work-finding search engine?). That way, people can know of any work pages that have been recently launched instead of having to conveniently stumble upon them through Latest Trope Edits or surfing the website. It would be of particular help for obscure works, especially those that have lackluster descriptions, very few tropes, no images, and very few mentions on other pages (especially if there aren't many indexes for them), so other people who know about them can come in and help with growing the page.
This idea came to me because a few times I have randomly come across pages for works launched nearly a decade ago that are only indexed on a single page (and always only on the broadest and largest indexes, like Western Animation, where they risk being lost in a sea of countless other works) and are otherwise mentioned on only 10 pages max, which to me are perfect examples of what could potentially happen to many newer work pages unless people are made aware in some way that they have been launched.
I don't know if this is feasible in the slightest, but I feel that the growth of pages for obscure works or those with few wicks needs to be more actively encouraged in some way.
Edited by MagnusForceopenMove VisualNovel to the front.
Has been bothering me for a while. Why Visual Novel, as a medium, is a hidden subpage? Even Manhwa and Light Novels are pinned to the bar and have own icons.
openComment activity
As pointed out by me in this ask the tropers query, Comment Activity is a very useful tool that links to tropers comment history in discussion pages, that I had no idea existed until a couple of days ago(it is only linked to on Itty Bitty Wiki Tools). Off the top of my head I would put the tool on the discussion pages themselves, sort of like the find posts by troper search function at the top of the forums homepage. That's one suggestion, I'm open to others.
Edited by jjjj2workingAlter the messages related to bombing
When you bomb on TLP, the "Are you sure?" message claims that you're doing it because you're removing a hat. But I'm a regular on the Discard Project, where we do a lot of bombing of drafts with no hats at all. I'd have it say something like this:
openWikimedia ability to edit specific folders/example headings
I propose the ability to separately edit specific folders or example headings. Would certainly save much more time on extremely long pages.
Edited by TVGuy2001closed Templates
I really wish that TVT had a function like FANDOM where you can make templates that put the same text on every page that uses it that can be edited and auto effects all the pages it's on. For instance, many Character pages have this thing at the top that navigates the other pages that we have to edit on every page every time a change is made to it.
openBetter distinction between unread and read links on the following page
Especially in a bright environment (e.g. outside when the sun is shining), it can sometimes be a bit hard to see which new updates you have already read. And especially when you clicked on a few links in between and then refresh the page, because then there are four different shades of grey.
I would proposed that the unread links could be shaded slightly in a different color (blue would fit well) so that there can't be a mix-up anymore.
closed Warning icon for disambiguation pages
(I proposed this in the past, but it got locked after more similar suggestions started piling up in the comments)
Similar to how anything on the YMMV, Audience Reactions, Trivia, or Flame Bait indexes gets a warning icon when linked to, I believe that links that are on the Ambiguity Index should get a similar icon. This would warn people that these pages shouldn't be linked to anymore, and make it easier to spot these links so they can be replaced with something more precise.
openlink to full page history in notifier
Notifiers now link to the edit they're about. Which is great! However, the links don't work if the edit isn't in the 15 most recent ones for the page. They need &more=t added in the URL before the #[edit number] part to work.
openA confirmation pop-up when logging out
I keep accidentally logging out when trying to check my messages or visit my profile. All it takes is a single misclick.
A pop-up to confirm would be all that's needed to prevent accidental log-outs.
Theatre - those happy and sad masks (I forget what they're called)
Eastern Animation (AKA just 'animation') - Pleasant Goat, similar to how Western Animation has Felix The Cat. Pleasant Goat is probably the most referenced non-western, non-Japanese cartoon on this site.
