Find a Trope:
openRegarding RWBY Web Original
In RWBY, the heroes fight the Grimm upon their arrival in Atlas at the beginning of Volume 7. However, they are arrested for illegally entering Atlas using a stolen ship, ditching said ship in Mantle against orders from the Atlesian higher-ups and illegally engaging in battle. And despite Qrow holding a valid huntsman license, Teams RWBY, JNR and Oscar don't have any licenses to become huntsmen since their training was incomplete.

Edited by gjjonesopenOne buttoned remote
Is there also a trope where characters could control lots of features in a robot or any types of machines but the remote they're holding is shown to only have four buttons:up,down, left, right,? Sometimes one? And sometimes less than five?
openIcelands and Isolation
Is there a trope that says some stories and movies with ice, snow,Icelands,Ice Castles, etc.are sad,and lonely and people living in are also sad, lonely, serious, calm, quiet, etc.?
Edited by Jonerpopen"Come With Me"
Alice asks Bob to come with her, Bob says I Choose to Stay because of other commitments. Usually results in Alice leaving Bob.
open"Hates wearing Dresses" But for Men's clothes? Anime
Is there a trope for when a character absolutely hates wearing Men's clothes?
In Re:Zero the character Ferris absolutely hates wearing any type of men's clothes, and is only comfortable in girl's clothes such as dresses. When they have to wear men's clothes, they feel very uncomfortable and may even cry. Should I just list it as an inverted trope?
openArrogant God vs Raging Monster
When the only character capable of being a match for the arrogant and/or skilled warrior, is a berserker of endless rage and stamina, and viceversa.
Most specifically, I mean rivalries where one of the contendants is an almost unbeatable warrior, superior to practically all the cast, that has earned and demostrated is enormous power through either practice or birth right, and has such skill using it through years of battle that non question it. And the warrior may have gained a bit of an ego for it. Until another appears, that is depicted as practically mindless or incapable of rational thought and strategies, but yet his rage, power and physical stamina are so great that the first one is either incapable of beating them, or at least it gives the warrior a run for their money, that leaves then extremely badly injured.
Of the top of my head, I can think of examples like Goku vs Broly, Superman vs Doomsday, Hulk vs Thor, or Gilgamesh vs Berserker (either of them).
Do you know if there is a named trope for this?
openBarefoot Ninja Trope? Anime
Is there a trope for it? 'cuz it's pretty common in anime and especially fighting games.
openOur Celestials Are Different
Beings, often cosmic entities, who are called Celestials. Similar to Our Archons Are Different and Our Gods Are Different, it can be a rather generalized term. Marvel of course has the Celestials, One Piece has the World Nobles under the term of "Celestial Dragon", ect
open"He can't be evil, he's my friend"
Whats the trope for when, despite being presented with ample evidence, a person refuses to belief their friend/lover/family member etc is a bad guy, usually due to denial/self deception.
openMistold joke ruined
Ruining a joke by telling it wrong, as seen in this xkcd strip: https://www.xkcd.com/169
openWhite People Are Boring
A trope (which I've seen mostly used in self-deprecation by white authors) where middle-class white people are culturally inert, producing/consuming nothing but bland and inoffensive forms of entertainment, media that's Two Decades Behind, or desperately aping other subcultures and ethnicities in a pathetic attempt to shed this image. The use of "vanilla" as a pejorative term often shows up as well.
openThe Dating Game Parody
Is there a trope here for when a work of fiction has their own version of the Game Show The Dating Game? It's typically presented as three people sitting on chairs on one side, one other character sitting on the other side, and a wall separating them. Sometimes, the one person asks the romance questions, and sometimes, the host asks them. (And sometimes, the three are on the left and the one on the right, and sometimes, it's the other way around.) The set always has a heart motif, and the host is always a Large Ham.
This appears to be the most parodied game show I've ever seen (ahead of staples like Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy!, and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?), but I don't see it on the Stock Parodies list.
Edited by ZombieAladdinopenMultiversal Singularity
A character, place or object which is meant to be unique in the multiverse. For example, the New Gods are described as being outside the multiverse and only one version of them exists, or how among others only one Living Tribunal exists in the Marvel multiverse.
openSpilling and splashing water while dying of thirst Film
Is there a trope for this?
A character is extremely thirsty and could die soon without water (e.g. after spending a long time in the desert). They chance upon some limited amount of water that could improve their chance of survival. Instead of being careful to actually drink all of the water, they handle it haphazardly, let it spill out of their mouth, and even splash it deliberately on their face. Perhaps the scene is done this way because it visually communicates the feeling of getting water better than if the character were to actually drink all of it.
Edited by core-theoryopenVillain wants everyone to fear them
I may have asked this but if so I don't remember any answer. Would this fall under Despotism Justifies the Means?
openNicer To One
A character is a jerk, or at least cold, to everyone, except to one person. It can be his best friend, his Love Interest, his parents, etc.
What do we call this?
openPerson is unduly suspicious of an innocent person due to a bad experience
If you want to know exactly what I'm thinking of: in the song "This is Me" by Dream the singer's boyfriend acts really suspicious of her, mainly because his last girlfriend was a real bitch, even though she is nothing but nice to him.
openBadass Fight Next to Mundane Activity
Exactly What It Says on the Tin. Bob and Aerith zip around trying to slice the bad guy with their Weapon Of Choice while Grandma Josie is shown knitting.
Seems like a widespread personality trope of the barista, even/especially in chain coffee shops, to be an incredible snob who think everyone who comes through the door is beneath them, constantly talk about their college education and the screenplay or poetry they're working on and expect them to overreact when a character asks for "just coffee". Piercings and anachronistic facial hair optional.
Do we have a trope like that anywhere?
