The TVTropes Trope Finder is where you can come to ask questions like "Do we have this one?" and "What's the trope about...?" Trying to rediscover a long lost show or other medium but need a little help? Head to Media Finder and try your luck there. Want to propose a new trope? You should be over at You Know, That Thing Where.
Find a Trope:
open2 tropes I want to know exist
The first one is food that is heavily associated with a certain animal despite that food being actually poisonous or not common for the animal to eat(like carrots with rabbits ,milk/cream with cats and cheese with mice)
The other one is a pre existing song that is so popularized by a movie, play or tv show. That pepole think the song was written for piece of media or event(like how all star is associated shrek, The song Sing In The Rain is associated with Singing in The Rain, and Bridal Chorus is associated with weddings)
openNo Title
The show has a certain status quo, and Bob has a clear and defined role in it. At a later point, the status quo is changed, and Bob has no place in it as a character. For example, a sitcom set in a small neighborhood turns the story of a family that travels all around the country or the world, and a character tied to a specific local building (such as the school's principal, or the owner of the convenience store).
So, instead of letting the character fade into oblivion, he is killed.
openYou Naughty Boy Film
I'm looking for a trope where Alice walks by Bob and Charlie, and Bob keeps eyeing Alice and Charlie chides him for that with a line like "you naughty boy".
openUnrealistic Lodging
I just noticed that in every Vacation Episode, there are only two kinds of hotels; ones so ridiculously luxurious that in real life they would cost thousands of dollars per night(not including extras like toiletries, dining and/or room service), and ones so horrible they would be shut down unless they were in a third-world country full of shantytowns. Are each of those a trope, or is this a trope in itself; the hotel where the characters are staying is either Product Placement or a slapstick running gag.
openUnlucky in love
Is there something for a character who is very unlucky specifically in romance? Might be unlucky in general, but that luck carries over to his relationships? I found Unlucky Everydude, but that's not quite it.
openCreator.HieronymusBosch has Literature.TheBible as a trope... What trope is it?
Creator.Hieronymus Bosch has Literature. The Bible as a trope... What trope is it?
'Cause a work is not a trope.
- The Bible: He painted Adam and Eva in Paradise ("The Garden Of Earthly Delights"), the Three Kings visiting Jesus ("Adoration Of The Magi"), Christ carrying the cross and being crowned with thorns, hermits, saints and martyrs ("Hermits Saints Triptych", "The Temptation of St. Anthony"), The Last Judgment and, of course, the most infamous depictions of Hell.
Would that be listed under Shout-Out, or something else?
As the Good Book Says..., seems to be for quotes, only, not just any reference to the Bible? Even though Shout-Out says that its general?
Biblical Motifs might have something...
Edited by MaladyopenYou did what?
Alice says something that she has done. Bob replies with a question: did you really do what you have just said? And Charles replies with another question, related to what has been said, but pointless to the issue at hand. For example:
Alice: ...so I got into the toy store, got a toy gun, and used it to rob the bank, because is really need that money.\ Bob: You robbed a bank?\ Charles: We have a toy store in the city?
Edited by GrigorIIopenFuture Villain Trope?
I'm wondering if there is a trope that covers a situation like this:
Alice is the hero and Bob is a recurring non-villainous side-character. A few episodes give Bob some characterization, but he is still very much a minor character. Then there is an episode taking place in the distant future (or perhaps there is a Time Skip), and now, Bob is a villain.
Sort of a villainous version of Future Badass.
Thanks in advance!
openFiring laser through portals
I thought I saw this before, but I forgot.
About an attack where someone fires a laser into a dimensional portal, then the portal opens somewhere else and the laser comes out of there. (may also be done with other projectiles)
openLast little "clunk" after fantastic destruction Film
So any time there's a terrific amount of destruction, whether due to an explosion or vehicle crash or monster mayhem or whatever, the deafening silence after the deafening destruction always has to be punctuated by one anticlimactic little "clunk" as one more formerly-dangling piece of wreckage falls to the ground. Sometimes this then triggers the nest wave of destruction (as the teetering train wreck falls off the cliff, for example), or oftentimes it's just for comic effect. I was reminded of it by this Farmer's Insurance ad: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSnXbs8Ngrk . I'm sure there's a trope here for it, but I couldn't find it.
openOptional game objectives that give extra rewards Videogame
In some games, aside from the main tasks (such as getting to the end or defeating the boss or getting the Plot Coupon), the game also gives optional tasks that aren't required to finish the level but will give you some nifty bonuses if done. Such as defeating specific (amount of) enemies, keeping your HP high enough, or finishing the level with/without a certain equipment, and so on...
openI'm not made of money!
I'm looking for a trope that's basically any variation of this phrase.
openIs there a trope for a sudden punch? A.k.a a SuckerPunch?
Is there a trope for a sudden punch? A.k.a a Sucker Punch?
'Cause some of Main.Sucker Punch's wicks, are for such an occurrence, but it's not a page, and has works named that...
So I'm trying to find a trope to disambig to.
Examples
Characters.Horus Heresy Traitor Legions:
- Sucker Punch: How he beats Lucius of the Emperor's Children. Lucius baits him into the sparring cage after defeating Erebus of the Word Bearers and the rest of the Mournival in sword duels. Loken drops his sword immediately and punches his foe right in the nose. Lucius is caught off guard and defeated, much to his humiliation.
- Sucker Punch: Gives these out in a regular basis, even to holograms. In one episode he says he was bullied as a child so now he takes a swing at people every chance gets.
CombatPragmatist.Video Games ... Undertale spoilers:
- allowing you to use the Spare option, which in all past encounters ends the fight. If you do so, he will Sucker Punch you with an unavoidable instant death attack
openParanormal Terrorists
Is there a trope for terrorist organizations who utilize the supernatural?
openHe's a jerk, but he's in the right
Bob is the Asshole Victim of a nonfatal crime, and is such a despicable individual that no one (including the police officers taking his complaint) feel any sympathy for his loss. However, they still pursue the criminal (no matter how noble his goals) because legally, Bob is in the right, even if he is an utter asshole.
Edited by Chabal2openTrope where...
A teenage girl gets her first period in her mid-to-late teens. Example is a certain Carrie White, who had her first period at 17 in the girls' locker room.
open"It's Character X Don't Question It."
When cartoon logic applies to one character in a show significantly moreso than it applies to most other characters in the same show and with no logical justification (such as that character explicitly having cartoon-themed superpowers). Pinkie Pie from mlp, homsar from homestar runner, and deadpool from the marvel universe would all be great examples.
openVirtual Reality Videogame
Checking my understanding; Cyberspace is the trope for fictional examples of Virtual Reality games in addition to virtual reality as an interface?
This is for when a person says something, then when a certain part of the phrase catches another person's attention, we hear the salient words echo in their head. In example is in the Arthur episode "I Wanna Hold Your Hand", when Mrs. Barnes says, "My little boy's growing up!". Binky was worried about being babyish and after she says that, we hear "little boy" echoing in his head.
