PatMac's video on obscure VHS releases is pretty interesting. VHS boxart could be a video on its own.

I was just thinking, there are cartoons about rock musicians, pop musicians, rappers, but have there ever been any cartoons about Country musicians? I dont mean one-off episodes, but the premise of the series itself.

I've always seen VHS box art to be superior to Blu-ray/DVD covers, especially since they're almost always the same as the theatrical poster art (primarily for WB movies).

Hey, I was wondering if someone should create a thread for "Over the moon"? I don't know if it would even belong here even though Glen Keane was a huge part of the production for it.

In one of the weirder productions to be greenlit, CBS All Access is making their live action comedy No Activity completely animated for Season 4.

The question of course remains how much changes between mediums, and if other shows follow this rather odd example. Example - Some executive goes "Let’s animate the next season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and add robots!” (Which would effectively turn it into Patlabor, but that’s another conversation).

It’s certainly a creative way to deal with COVID restrictions as countries mull new lockdowns.

Apparently he got tired of waiting for Disney to cook up a Fantasia 3, so he made his own called: Travelogue: Volume 1.

I have to thank jessicadicicco610 for bringing attention to this recent Variety article. Basically, Variety has cataloged the Nielsen viewership ratings for most of the notable US networks, including kids networks like Cartoon Network, Disney Channel, and Nickelodeon.

Kids channels

This new generation of kids will never know what it’s like to watch their shows on a schedule. The steady decline of all kids networks went on overdrive this year, with Disney Channel (-33%), Nickelodeon (-32%), Cartoon Network (-29%), Nick Jr. (-17%), Disney Junior (-27%), Nicktoons (-42%), Teennick (-35%) all down. A few exceptions came from the small network end, with Discovery Family, Universal Kids and Baby First TV posting a touch of growth.

THE MOST-WATCHED NETWORKS OF 2020 (BY TOTAL VIEWERS)
  • 33. Adult Swim 517K (-20%)
  • 34. Nickelodeon 494K (-32%)
  • 48. Disney Channel 355K (-33%)
  • 52. Nick Jr. 332K (-17%)
  • 54. Disney Junior 310K (-27%)
  • 59. Cartoon Network 274K ( -29%)
  • 102. Disney XD 94K (-23%)
  • 105. Boomerang 92K ( -7%)
  • 107. Nicktoons 87K (-42%)
  • 119. Teennick 58K (-35%)
  • 133. Baby First TV 35K (+3%)
  • 134. Universal Kids 34K (+10%)

     THE 50 TOP-RATED NETWORKS OF 2020 (BY ADULTS 18-49)
  • 16. Adult Swim 308K (-20%)
  • 35. Nickelodeon 162K (-26%)
  • 46. Cartoon Network 108K (-20%)
  • 49. Disney Junior 101K (-25%)

Unforunately, it was quickly deleted within an hour, but Genndy Tartakovsky leaked screenshots of his upcoming Black Knight animated film. It's one of the r-rated animated films coming from him and Sony Pictures Animation.

[up] Great Googly Moogly! That doesn't look anything like I expected! surprised

I mean, "Black Knight" implies medieval stuff, but ninjas?! We're getting ninjas in this whole thing? And that knight might as well be a mountain with limbs and a BFS that'd give Cloud and Guts the stink-eye.

Give us more, man!

EDIT: Also, when did tattoos become a thing? Because that ninja's got some really huge ones... Like, whoa.

Apparently, the over-the-air kids network Qubo is shutting its doors after 14 years. Its current company owner, The E.W. Scripps Companynote , has plans to Kill and Replace it and Ion Plus with more "mature" OTA programming similar to "CourtTV", "Laff" and "Bounce".

With its closure on February 28th, that would leave PBS Kids and Smile TV as the only OTA/satellite stations marketed towards kids/families.

It seems unexpected as Qubo just acquired a couple of (relatively) new programming like Jay Jay The Jet Plane (Feb 1st, 2021), Franklin (Jan 1st, 2021), Justin Time.

As a side note, I admittedly flabbergasted to see The Magic School Bus Rides Again currently airs on Qubo, seeing as the show is not only very modernnote , but the series continues to produce new content on its original Netflix home.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller's criminally underrated animated series Clone High comes back with a vengeance on HBO Max!

What's weird is that they're calling it a reboot, which...will it though? Plus, it's getting two seasons! Might we see a proper resolution? (Or at least a re-establishing of what transpired before and then a proper resolution?)

If the Disney shutdown of Blue Sky scares you, you should be absolutely horrified at what a potential WarnerMedia-NBCUniversal merger will do.

There's absolutely no universe where Warner Animation Group, DreamWorks and Illumination exist under the same banner. One of those studios will have to go.

[up] Blue Sky still had lots of great, talented people on the payroll, even if their works were shitty (that was largely Fox's fault, not Blue Sky's). And now they're out of work for something they had nothing to do with.

[up]It's been a media guru's wet dream but this is the first time we've had reports of NBCUni's CEO talking about it. Granted it's still highly unlikely, but if AT&T decides WM is no longer worth the trouble...

[up][up][up]

Realistically, WarnerMedia isn't going anywhere. AT&T certainly doesn't seem interested in giving it up. But let's say Comcast made a good enough offer, or the higher-ups at AT&T decided it just wasn't worth it anymore. Which of the three animation studios would go? The options, of course, are DreamWorks, Warner Animation, and Illumination.

Personally, I think the one to get cut would be Dreamworks. Unlike Pixar, which rose to new levels of success after being acquired by Disney, DreamWorks has been struggling ever since its purchase by Comcast. None of the Universal-distributed DreamWorks films have grossed as much as the ones released by Paramount and 20th Century Fox. Illumination, on the other hand, has been thriving, with several of its movies grossing over $1 billion— the only non-Disney animated movies to do so. So I can picture DreamWorks being absorbed into Illumination in the event of such a merger. This "combined" studio would be the home of franchises like Shrek, How To Train Your Dragon, Kung Fu Panda, and Despicable Me.

As for Warner Animation group, I can see it remaining separate, albeit "in name only" since it would be owned by the same company as DreamWorks/Illumination. It would basically be there to make movies based on Warner Bros. properties like DC Comics, Hanna-Barbera cartoons, and Looney Tunes.

The big question mark is what will happen to the LEGO movies. For those of you who don't know, the LEGO movie series ended in 2019 after the The LEGO Movie 2 under-performed (although even before then, the writing was already on the wall, since WB's animated movie slate didn't have any further LEGO movies). Warner Bros. allowed their rights to the franchise to lapse, and they were quickly bought by. . . Universal. So if we imagine Warner Bros. and Universal under the same corporate roof, would the LEGO movie rights effectively go back to their original owners?

Hasbro's eOne and Fox Entertainment are teaming up to making an animated adaptation of Clue, according to Variety. Bento Box Entertainment is reported to produced the series' animation.

wild mass guessPresumingly, the series will be an adult cartoon considering Fox and Bento Box's known works like Bob's Burgers. I wonder if we'll have alternate endings depending on factors like timezones or voting.wild mass guess
