My perfect video game can only be created under the following conditions:

Paradox Interactive and Creative Assembly working together with KeyAni. Advised by the Europa Barbarorum and Stainless Steel mod team, music composed by Jeff van Dyck and performed by either the hottest-blooded band of them all or any prestigious orchestra.

The result should be something akin to "Grand Strategy focus with historically accurate massive battlefield and extensive, [[Troperiffic Troperiffic trait systtem]] and Moe"

And the Goddess.

Yours?

Fighting game with a huge roster of extremely balanced characters who have inputs that weren't designed by Satan's maniacal hands and with mechanics that are easy to pick up but difficult to master. It would also have the best music ever, some funny, some awesome, and it would be on an OST disc packaged with the game. The characters would be original, but mostly funny.

Online play would also not have the equivalent of 75% Flowchart Kens. And tournaments would take place on blimps.

There isn't one. I like far too many genres, and trying to combine them all would result in a gigantic clusterfuck.

Regardless, my "perfect" video game would probably be a roguelike with state of the art graphics, story, and voiceacting. Preferably longer and more complex (impossible as it may be) than the standard roguelike. Essentially a game where virtually anything is possible.

A non-shooter Bullet Hell game that incorporates equal part melee combat as well as ranged attack.

The game will be long as hell so I can play it for a long time without ever coming close to beating it so I won't have to buy a new game.

...basically imagine a Bangai-O game that forces you to dodge the bullets rather than spamming bombs and sword attacks to cancel out incoming enemy fire. Except without robots.

And most importantly...it will be Nintendo Hard.

Story wise...something loaded with Values Dissonance and the type of humor that makes conservatives and prudes go Squick...the main character should be a butler and his love interest should be an obscenely rich loli...with blonde hair...and twin tails...and she should also have a pet white tiger...that possibly talks.

^...that just looks like a Darker and Edgier Silhouette Mirage...from what I see in the trailer anyways.

And it's a platformer. I'm thinking of something where you can fly in any direction you want...and dodge bullet curtains coming from every direction (without any cheap tricks)....and more stylish...like...a "loli holding a BFG three-times her size firing a tiger shaped beam" stylish...or "using an oversized drill like a lance" stylish....complete with battle aura...

An RPG with a world that with smart AI and denizens that can complete quests on their own if you don't encounter them or are just taking too long, leading to multiple different endings and a grand overarching plot that can be changed at any point by a rash decision by you, with no NPCs tagged as unkillable. Set in a hybrid of Fantasy and Science-Fiction, with the Fantasy aspect being the most dangerous but ultimately the most rewarding (eg: Training with that sword will be difficult and you won't be effective for a long while, but master it and gain physical strength and magical prowess and you can deflect bullets and cut through buildings). The world will be huge with a fast-travel system tat can be turned off, a 'realistic' mode with real-world eating, sleeping and bathroom needs, the soundtrack will be both sweeping and orchestral and fast and techno, and weapon customisation will be huge. The range of NPCs will be enormous, every major NPC will have a different voice, NPCs can develop their own relationships and encounters with different schedules based on player actions or other NPCs (eg: burning the markets and stores down or destroying them with a missile strike will cause a mass exodus from that town or city to a nearby city, possibly causing that city to collapse without the right infrastructure), and physics will run solely on Rule of Cool.

Hm... An RPG with a complex combat system and a wide variety of possible character builds and useful strategies. It would need an engaging single-player mode, wherein the player could put their characters together, use them to explore a large overworld, and delve into endless dungeons.

Also, a competitive battle mode which can be played over the internet. And for the love of god, give it a random matchup feature.

But somehow,

A game starring a female protagonist with really big boobs who wields a rocket launcher that shoots flaming dual-chainsaws.

That, or an RTS that combines the elements of Homeworld, Sins of a Solar Empire, and World in Conflict all in one epic package. Either will do.

Depends on genre.

RPG? A cross between the Witcher, Dragon Age and Baldurs Gate. Realistic scale, interesting setting, PC and enemies play by the same loot, small & realistic inventory, no HP inflation (no HP increase per level AT ALL), no attribute inflation, focus on skills/feats, realistic combat animation, tight plot, sensible loot.

4X? Sword of the Stars...pretty much

FPS? A newly revived Delta-Force. Loved that series for it's authentic feel.

I'd like to see an MMO in roughly the World Of Warcraft/Allods/DDO vein, as designed by Sucker Punch or Insomniac, if that makes sense to anyone else.

Hell, I'd like to be on the concept art and/or story team for such a project.

I want a real horror game from an FPS perspective, not these "horror FPS" we've been seeing, but something that actually scares me. For one, I'd like one that actually limits your weaponry. I want a game where all you get is a pistol, that becomes your best friend over the course of the game, and you have to make your bullets count.

I'd like a game that combines elements of Survival and Psychological horror. One idea was something like Eternal Darkness, were you're fighting for your life against monsters while slowly going insane from the trauma—but with the sanity built into the narrative instead of a meter on the screen.

I feel like I'm writing this because of some stupid compulsion. I really doubt anyone is going to care about what I think would be a perfect video game so it'll be 100% "Cool story, bro". But, I've had this idea running around my head all day and at least writing it down and posting it will get it out of my head.

I'm aware from the get-go what an insane idea this is and how it'll never be done because it'd cost too much to make and appeal to too few people. But, if I were some sort of crazed billionaire who was doing this for shits and giggles, this is what I'd ask for:

In one sentence: A Massively Single Player Space Opera Wide-Open Sandbox with insane levels of Character Customization and a Universal Driver's License.

Bits of this have been done all over the place, there's little in the way of original ideas here. It's just that I've never seen them all together at once.

To start, characters. There's three broad "Classes".

  • Robots: Have their unique abilities focused more towards being highly resistant to damage. Fundamental weakness is that without regular maintenance, their subsystems develop "bugs" and start randomly malfunctioning. Malfunctions are corrected within a few seconds by automated repair systems, but a malfunction of a crucial system at the wrong point in time could lead to an untimely death.
  • Bionts: Through the application of cutting edge biotechnology, no less Bad Ass due to being made of meat. Unique abilities are focused mainly on Regenerating Health. Fundamental weakness is a reliance on life support. Life support systems make vehicles and equipment more expensive, failure of life support systems leads to death.
  • Cyborgs: Have the flexibility to use upgrades intended for either robots or bionts, at the expense of having the weaknesses of both simultaneously. Cyborgs require both life support and regular maintenance in order to remain in operating condition. Also, specialist weapons which have extra damage and status effects on either robots or bionts will have those effect on cyborgs.

If you wanted to be alliterative, your choices boil down to 'Bots, Bionts and 'Borgs.

Customisation of appearance would be on the level of City Of Heroes meets Spore. The game would also be third person with a HUD because what's the point of having this awesome custom avatar if you can't gaze upon its awesomeness all the time?

There are RPG Elements in terms of their being experience points and character progression. I am a firm believer in "Get experience points for doing anything". As well as the obvious in terms of fighting and killing things, experience points for trading, finding stuff and even for just driving around in vehicles. Oh and dying, too. Yes, if you manage to find something really big and get your ass kicked by it, you'll GAIN experience for it. In this universe, we learn from failure as well as success. Some will almost certainly complain this can be abused to gain experience points quickly, these people can STFU because if people want to just powerlevel and have access to all the cool powers, that's their right as a paying customer to define their own play experience.

Gaining a level doesn't increase Hit Points or anything like that (at least not directly). Each level will give a character a new "slot" they can use in the vast Tech Tree. Common things would be upgrading base stats (such as Hit Points), access to better gear, access to better mods for guns and vehicles, access to new abilities, powering up existing abilities.

There's no level cap so you're free to upgrade your character as much as you damn well please, provided you like grinding. After a certain point you're presumably doing it because you like making the universe your bitch. Again, if that's how you wanna play, go nuts.

Weapons are handled in a manner that's a bit like a cross between the original Mass Effect and Border Lands. You get basic guns which can be upgraded with a certain level of "mod slots". The higher level gun, the more "mod slots" it has. Mods can range from basic things like buffing accuracy or damage, to effect mods that do things like bypass damage resistance for robots, cause Ao E damage, elemental damage, FOF homing capability etc.

But it's not necessarily ground-pounding FPS action. You also have access to a whole universe full of vehicles. Anything from cars to hovercraft, airplanes, boats, submarines, shuttles, and the whole Standard Sci-Fi Fleet. It's not a case of GTA style "if you can touch it, you can steal it". I mean you can steal vehicles with the right gear and abilities, but you will have to deal with consequences from its now very pissed off former owners (and whatever authorities they consider relevant to hunting you down).

You can use vehicles for pretty much any situation in which they're capable of staying together, although I guess you could just use a freighter for a Colony Drop if you wanted to. Vehicles will have their own array of mods for their weapons and abilities, although you will need the relevant skills in order to be able to install and use these mods.

To get a vehicle, you either gather the raw materials required to build it at a fabricator or just pay the market cost of those raw materials plus an extra few percentage LBL (Lazy Bastard Levy).

Gameplay is a 4X Wide-Open Sandbox with a Level 6 on the Sliding Scale of Linearity vs. Openness. You (literally) have a whole (procedurally and randomly generated) galaxy full of delicious looting and gathering opportunities available to you. Go out and get what's yours by whatever means you deem expedient! You can even explore within some of the larger vehicles. Wander around your own ship, or personally lead squads in boarding actions, either defending your vessel or attempting to nick someone else's.

The economy would actually be the only part of the game that is multiplayer, in order to keep the economy reasonably dynamic. All trades of vehicles, equipment raw materials and mods would actually be between players, handled by a central server, or a P 2 P network if that's at all feasible. This would help keep prices relatively realistic and also make life easier for newbie players as such an economy benefits new players by giving them the opportunity to make loads more money than they would otherwise by getting things experience players want but can't be bothered gathering themselves. It would have all sorts of statistical analysis features of price trends that would make spreadsheet nerds squeal with delight.

New money would enter the economy by means of completing NPC missions or collecting bounties. The Money Sinks are maintenance costs for robots, life support systems for vehicles or armor, training costs when you gain a level and cloning costs when you die. Yes, when you die, even though you may gain XP in some circumstances you will lose money proportional to your level (You don't lose your equipment per se. It's just left with your corpse and you either have to go fetch it or pay someone else to). Die when you're broke and your finance and insurance broker will cover the cost. But they'll pocket 50% of any money you earn until the debt (plus an extra 10% for their trouble) is paid off.

So, that is my humble vision of a perfect game. Little original in it, I shall admit, but considering that it would be the best parts of 10 or more VERY expensive games mashed together and integrated flawlessly, I can consider myself quite realistic when I say it'll be a cold day in hell before I ever see anything like it. Probably a good thing, a game this awesome would make social interaction seem pointless and shitty by comparison.

^ Holy shit, that is detailed. @_@

My perfect game: A JRPG (action, preferably, though a system like Final Fantasy X 2/XIII's is good, too) that allows heavy attack/ability customization (now, this is key; I loooooooove that shit). An amazing soundtrack is a must. As is it having tons of sidequests, and a loooong potential playtime and replay value.

Pretty mundane after the juggernaut that was Tibby's post, but there you have it. =d
