Needs Help: Samurai Stories

The problem: Samurai Stories is an index about "fictional works starring, and/or revolving around, Samurai (and Rōnin as well)", per the description. However, as one of the "Works About X" indexes that spawned a Wiki Talk thread, problems were identified with Samurai Stories. More specifically, the index was suspected of conceptually overlapping with (and being unnecessary because of) multiple other indexes, such as Samurai, Jidaigeki, Bushido Index, Western Samurai, Samurai Cowboy, and others.

Possible solutions: Either cut, disambig to the indexes mentioned, or redirect to one of the mentioned tropes.

What does everyone else think? Any other ideas or suggestions?

Samurai Stories has a place in history and a lot of zingers in the launch page, but there's no peak performance of the genre-index to focus on, and I'm suprised Afro Samurai hasn't been watered down from Ninja Ninja's omnipresence. I think the focal point of the trope now is just the Bushido Index, since tropers are open to add something like Iaijutsu Practitioner to Awesome pages and fanfics that focus a lot on a specific loitering around and waiting to draw the weapons. 95% of the tropes on Bushido Index are related to samurai loitering about (Everything's Better with Samurai being an example) or some other kind of omnipresence, so I think a redirect is the way to go in order to perserve the original index. The focus of the latter index is already mostly on epilogue-related tropes anyway and it would well with Akira Kurosawa films since that was his filmmaking style.

...Or if not that, the easier solution IMO is to just redirect to Essential Anime so people can have some fun gushing about Iaijutsu Practitioner and whatnot in addition to the Samurai Story listings.

my preference would be to redirect to either Jidaigeki, Samurai, or Bushido Index (in that order) or disambig. jidaigeki is the actual genre that covers most traditional stories involving samurai. However, since samurai stories isn't limited to period pieces, I think it'd also be ok to just redirect to our page about samurai and how they appear in media

in all cases we'd likely salvage any works listed on Samurai Stories that qualify for jidaigeki on that page anyways, which is why i think just redirecting there makes things easier

This page only has 13 wicks and 340 inbounds by the way. Not enough to preserve, even to keep the name. I'd say just do a full cut.

i'd be ok with a cut. redirect > cut > disambig, imo.

in general i don't really see the point in disambig-ing an index unless people were mistakenly using it as a trope since people rarely wick to indices themselves.

I could see a cut argument as well.
