Old Complete Monster cleanup thread

Welcome to the Complete Monster proposal thread! This is the thread where new Complete Monster examples are vetted, approved, and written up. If you're looking for the general cleanup thread (for cuts, rewrites, expansions, and the like), please go here

Important: Before suggesting any new examples, please read the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List; if you have any questions, the odds are high they are answered there. Additionally, please check here for the earliest date a work can be discussed (usually two weeks from the U.S. release date) and whether the work has already been reserved by another user.

Here is how the process works:

    Process

  1. If you have a candidate to propose, you can simply come right in and propose them! If the character's run is brief, such as a single issue of a comic book, then a simple summary of their actions and any potential redeeming qualities will be enough; for longer-running candidates, an effortpost (EP) might be helpful for organizing the proposal. An EP is not outright required, but please be mindful that if a post becomes too clunky and unorganized, it can be very hard for other people to follow.

  2. After the proposal, there will be a 72-hour discussion and voting period, where people may ask questions and vote on the candidate. The number of upvotes must outnumber the downvotes by at least five for the character to be considered "approved".

  3. Three days after the proposal has been made, if the character has been approved, you may post the writeup (the text to be posted on the trope page itself) on the thread and send it to the drafts page. Your candidate will soon be added to the CM subpage. If the work has a page, you should add your candidate to the relevant YMMV page. Voila! It's that simple!

Outside of this process, we do have a few ground rules:

    Ground Rules

  1. To keep the thread moving at a reasonable pace, there are some restrictions on when a proposal can be made. There should only be a maximum of four EPs posted both per page and per hour to ensure that nothing gets lost in the shuffle; additionally, each individual troper should only be proposing or writing up characters from a maximum of three works at a time (from initial proposals to end of their voting period). If your proposal would fall outside of either of these guidelines, we'd like to ask you to please wait until they would fit within; feel free to type them up on an outside document, and then when the time comes, you can just copy, paste, and post!

  2. No plagiarism of any kind. This is a very serious matter site-wide, as the website could get in actual legal trouble over this; as a result, this can very quickly lead to mod intervention. This can take many different forms:
    1. Direct plagiarism, i.e. wholesale copying. This is not only the easiest to find, but is also the most likely to warrant quick moderator intervention. To be clear, quoting in some places is perfectly acceptable, but it has to be very clear you're quoting from something else and it cannot be anything longer than a sentence or two - if you're quoting an entire work summary from Wikipedia, no one is going to believe you've actually consumed the work, so even if you cite your source, your candidate will be downvoted anyway.
    2. Self-plagiarism. Even if you can prove that you wrote the same text in both places, the site itself can't contain any of the duplicated text. If you already wrote something once before, it's not too hard to write it a second time.
    3. Using another site's work as a template for a proposal. Just because you don't copy and paste something directly doesn't mean it's any harder to detect if you're basing parts or all of your proposal on text someone else wrote. To be clear, this doesn't violate site rules and won't lead to mod intervention, but just like if you directly plagiarize, no one will believe you've consumed the work if you're clearly basing your proposal on something else. This thread largely operates on the honor system, and tweaking someone else's work to pass it off as your own is one of the fastest ways to lose trust.

  3. Votes must be for specific candidates, meaning no blanket voting (i.e. "yes to everyone I missed").

  4. If you are the first person to downvote a candidate, please provide an explanation of why when you do so. We're here for discussions above all, and a hit-and-run downvote doesn't facilitate anything.

  5. If a work is already reserved by another user, please don't comment on the work or any potential characters worth discussion before the discussion date. We know how exciting it is when a work has a keeper that you're waiting to talk about, but it's not fair to the person who reserved the work who is just as excited to lead the discussion to see the discussion getting spoiled before they get to do it. On the other hand, if the reservation only has one name attached, shoot them a PM - they may be down for a collaboration, which will get you in on the fun as well!

  6. Please keep the thread on-topic. While discussing the trope is fun and we encourage people to enjoy it, questions like "who's your favorite CM" are off-topic and can lead to thumps. That's the kind of question to take to people's PMs if they're willing. Similarly, while we encourage friendliness and familiarity with other users, posts should always have some kind of thread-relevant purpose; for instance, if you want to wish someone a happy birthday, feel free to, but if it's the only thing in the post, it's off-topic and needs something else alongside it. Again, though, while we strive for a friendly atmosphere, this is not Facebook; life updates are fun, but unless they have some kind of impact on your thread participation, please do not bring it here - we have Yack Fest for that.

  7. Please refrain from asking anything along the lines of "How Did We Miss This One?" In almost every case, the answer is simply "No one thought about it before". This Is a Wiki where everyone has different interests, and the fact that people missed a particular candidate, even one that seems like a textbook example of a trope or a character who is particularly iconic in pop culture, means absolutely nothing. The question is disruptive, has a simple and consistent answer, and provides nothing to any discussion.

  8. If you are suspended from parts of the website, it is still possible to participate!
    1. For users who are suspended from editing the wiki, you still have full access to this thread. You can propose candidates and write them up with no issues whatsoever; while you will have to ask someone else to post the entry to the relevant pages once it is done, all write-ups are considered thread-approved - as in, done by consensus - and thus doing so does not violate any rules regarding meatpuppeting.
    2. If you are suspended from the forums, your participation is limited but not impossible. It is still possible for a forum-suspended user to assist in creating the write-up for a character who has already been approved; as previously mentioned, write-ups are inherently considered a consensus-based edit and thus not tied to any one particular user. However, you can not assist in the proposal of a character; as a proposal is based around the forum rather than the wiki, doing so with a forum suspension qualifies as meatpuppeting.

  9. Please keep all discussions "in-house".
    1. What other wikis use for CM equivalents is irrelevant here.
    2. Please be wary of using other wikis, Fandom or otherwise, as sources of information. They are just as fallible as a site like Wikipedia in regards to accuracy because they can be edited by any user, just as this site can.
    3. Do not attempt to force a communication with an author in an attempt to gather evidence or settle a debate; besides the fact that this is a YMMV trope and thus author intent has variable weight depending on the circumstance, doing so may cross the line into drama exportation, which is prohibited site-wide.

If you would like to use an EP for your candidate, here's the general format. This format does not have to be followed exactly, but these are the main topics that need to be covered:

    Effortpost Template

What is the work?

This is a brief summary of the work you're going to discuss. We don't need a full plot summary here, just however much we need to understand going into the discussion — it can even be as simple as quoting the summary on the work's page.

Who is the candidate and what have they done?

This is essentially the character's biography — who they are, their story, the crimes they commit, and, preferably (though not required), what happens to the candidate at the end. It does not have to include every single thing they ever do — for some villains, we'd be here all day if that was the case — but it should include the highlights of their journey.

Any redeeming qualities? Freudian Excuse?

This is where any potential redeeming characteristics or tragic backstory should be discussed. Do they have a tragic past? Do they show that Even Evil Has Standards or Even Evil Has Loved Ones? Maybe a Pet the Dog moment or two? This is where these should be discussed in full. Not every potential redeeming moment is a clear-cut disqualifier, but we should hear of any potential issues to ensure the character is discussed in full.

Are they bad enough?

A Complete Monster has to be particularly vile by the standard of the work they appear in. Therefore, you should look at what the character does compared to similar characters in the same work. This takes into account things like:

  • Their resource level (a human Serial Killer can't stand up to an alien Omnicidal Maniac, but they can be bad by the standard of other human serial killers)
  • The amount of time they have to work with (such as a one-shot character versus long-running antagonists)
  • The quantity vs. quality of their crimes compared to others (someone with a lower victim count but far more visceral and personal crimes could be considered as equally bad overall as someone with a higher body count but less horror involved)

Essentially, this section is an analysis of the kinds of villainy shown in the work and an explanation of why this particular character's villainy stands out within it.

Final verdict?

This is where you post your final conclusion on the character in question. You can continue elaborating on your reasons or even just say a simple "yes" or "no"; at this point, we've heard everything we need to hear.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: This thread tackles very serious and dark matters on a daily basis. We will be discussing things like murder, rape, torture, human trafficking, crimes against children, and in particularly dark cases, several of these issues at the same time. We keep a lighthearted air, but all candidates carry the general assumption that these are awful individuals committing disgusting crimes. We ask that if you participate, you do so with the requisite seriousness such dark topics require; exclamations of how gross something is, whether serious or sarcastic, are disrespectful to the topics at hand, and if you cannot handle such topics, please do not participate.

And that's everything you need to know. Welcome to the thread!

Here's Amshel's writeup. As I mentioned before, Solomon from the manga also counts, but Lighty will be the one to propose him whenever he gets the chance.

  • Blood+ manga, by Asuka Katsura: Amshel Goldsmith is no less vile in this abridged retelling of the anime. Back in the 19th century, Amshel devoted himself to Diva by becoming her Chevalier, manipulating her sister Saya into releasing her and having her slaughter an entire banquet to his delight. Securing Diva for his own selfish needs, Amshel spent the centuries concocting schemes to fulfill Diva’s dream of a world infested with Chiropeans, establishing pharmaceutical company Cinq Fleches to conduct countless human experiments and massacres to achieve said dream. Seeking to have Diva mate with the Chevalier Riku, Amshel organizes an attack on a Red Shield ship to slaughter everybody onboard. With his care for Diva nothing more than possessive obsession, Amshel uses the Red Guard attack to reveal his secret project, the Corpse Corps, child Chiropean soldiers created for the sole purpose of wiping out all of Diva’s Chevaliers so that only he can rule beside her. Spreading the Chiropean virus with his D67 drugs, Amshel organizes an opera performance by Diva to be broadcasted worldwide, with her singing activating the drugs' effects and creating a massive Chiropean infestation.

Definitely yes to Lavos and Samukai. Great job!

ACW:That's what Polar said. It reminds me a lot of Sir John Dee and Edward Kelly, and The High Wills and His Holiness Escribar. Like Marsh, John Dee and The High Wills Big Bad, but only fully revealed at the end of the game, while Rahmut, Kelly and Escribar lead the plot. And since Dee and Wills go first, then let Marsh go first.

Found two more from Forbiden Worlds.

From issues 21’s story “Deity of Death”

Who are Zeni and Kurreli? What have they done?

Long ago Zeni was evil god of violent death worshiped by many thousands on Islands in southwest Pacific, who dayli offered him human sacrifices. Eventually only small cult on island named Ilomar remained, led by High Priestess Kurreli. During world war 2 cult scatered and when they returned after end of war, found out Kurreli’s powers dissapered. Turns out that at tail end of war, American pilot named Jim Cullen crashes on island and almost bleed out in front of Zeni’s statue. Everybody who sheds blood before image of Zeni is branded as follower and withous all of them they can’t summons Zeni after so long.

Kurreli tracks Jim, now strugling writer, and brings him to Ilomar. There she sacrifices poor man to Zeni, waking evil good from his sleep. Zeni orders his followers to start recruting their many members and that there again be human sacrifice to him daily, with goal to eventually conquer the world. Kurreli racruits Jim into cult with promises of riches and power, sending him to United states to gather the followers. He uses resources cult provided him to gather hire criminals to break into prisons, assliums and reformatories, recruiting inmates while killing guards and all inmates who refuse to join the cult. At one point Jim even summons Zeni to destroy walls of the prison.

Months pass as cult grows and Mass human sacrifice resumes on Ilomar, while prison breaks in name of recruitment continue world wide. Eventually Kurreli summons Jim back to Ilomar and summons Zeni once again. Zeni is happy with progress cult made and to celebrate cult’s plan to use stolen atomic bomb to destroy Washington D. C tommorow as a first strike against humanity, orders special sacrifice to be brought.

Turns out cult kidnaped Jim’s girlfriend Ruth because Kurreli feels there is still good in Jim. She tries to persuade her to sacrifice Ruth and fully devote himslef to Zeni’s evil. Jim however ultimately kills Kurreli, who turns into skeleton, and saves Ruth, before stoping cults plan to destroy Washington and use bomb to blow up Ilomar and the cult, putting end to Zeni’s evil forever at cost of his own life.

Reddeming factors?

Standard evil god and Psycho Supporter evil priestess who is pround on her God’s evil.

Heinous standard?

So they aren’t aiming at deatroying mamkind like other two keepers and while we don’t directly see much of their sacrifices, still comic gives them clear enought pattern of daily Human Sacrifice with entire religion based around it and plan to spread it across world, staring with nuking Washington. Even for Forbiden Worlds that is special kind of bad.

Zeni is mastermind and even manifests himself at one point to assists in recruitment of new members and, while Jim himself is far from innocent, Kurreli is one who brought Zeni back and presides over daily Mass sacrifice and cults operations, giving her enought role and independence to count alongside Zeni.

Conclusion?

Yes.

Since Lighty said I could edit Risti...

  • No Guilt of Bloodshed, by John Baltisberger: Dragan Risti is a fanatical priest who inspires a violent pogrom against the Jews of Ostropol, Ukraine. Fleeing to the Western United States, Risti takes over Brodie, California, where he doesn't even let the Jews there flee, but forces them to remain in their homes and starve to death, lest his men shoot them. Risti enslaves a succubus named Agrat and lets his men prostitute her as they will, while enacting his justice upon anyone he deems sinners. Using demons and men alike, Risti tortures and kills numerous innocents, with plans for an ultimate genocide of the Jews.

Lighty's having a hard time lately, and so will be getting to stuff as he can, but:

  • The Devil All the Time: Reverend Preston Teagardin is a charismatic preacher in the old south, but also a sexual predator who targets underaged girls. After seducing Arvin's sister Lenora and leaving her pregnant before cruelly dismissing her, leading her to suicide, Teagardin refuses any hint of responsibility. Arvin later confirms Teagardin is a serial rapist who seduces and assaults girls, never once acknowledging a hint of responsibility.
  • Castlevania Nocturne:
    • Drolta Tzuentes is known as the "attack dog" of the Vampire Messiah, the Countess Bathory. A ferocious and sadistic killer, Drolta leads her forces to slaughter entire villages and bring victims to Bathory to be tortured to death. Gleefully massacring a group of soldiers upon her arrival in Paris, Drolta proceeds to hand over a girl to Bathory for despairing torture. Upon the Black Sun's dawning, Drolta personally intends to lead Bathory's armies and massacre humankind into subjugation.
    • The Comte de Vaublanc was a slave owner in Haiti who ruled his plantation with an iron fist. Denying all hope for the slaves, Vaublanc also hunts them like animals for sport and killed the mother of Annette simply for practicing Vodun and giving her daughter hope. Joining the conspiracy of Bathory, Vaublanc intends to help bring the hell on earth bathory wants and is caught by Annette attempting to drain an innocent man.

I have a few Marvels appropriate for the season, and another horror example.

My first one will be one long overdue lord of evil in Marvel: Chthon

Who is Chthon?

One of the most evil beings in the Marvel universe as well as one of the first. Chthon was one of the Elder Gods, along with Gaea,Oshtur and Chthon's brother Set. While Set was the first of the murderers, Chthon gleefully participated in the purge of his siblings and became a ferocious monster, as well as being the first of the Elder Gods who studied magic. When Gaea unleashed her son to destroy her demonic brethren, Chthon escaped into a new dimension. But Chthon left links like the Darkhold. In effect, Chthon created Black magic throughout the Marvel universe and left it as a corrupting force. Meaning all the horrors done there? Chthon's doing.

Chthon became the first of the Great Old Ones and created innuemrable monsters to spread slaughter across the multiverse while granting power at the cost of souls. Creating demons, leading his forces to try to consume the multiverse, but he was always beaten back. But Chthon was constantly creating new monsters with full intent. Including being behin the creation of the first vampires. Throughout the ages, Chthon repeatedly corrupts others to unleash the ultimate corruption and destruction of the Multiverse and all who live thee.

When Wanda Maximoff was born, Chthon also reached out to her to establish a hold and corrupt her through the moments of grief and wrath (making him responsible for the damage she's done) as part of a long game to possess her and, you guessed it, annihilate all that lvies.

Somemthing Chthon does innumerable times: corruption, spread death and destruction, incarnate, attempt to kill and corrupt everything, get banished and repeat.

Mitigating issues?

Just like his brother Set, Chthon is evil by firm choice. He chose to become a serial god killer. And now? Chthon is one of the primary forces of evil in the Marvel universe. He's the father of black mmagic, the maker of countless demons who has spread untold aounts of death and destruction across the multiverse. Chthon is a corrupter who repeatedly attempts scales of horror that's barely heard of.

In effect, he's very easy to compare to his brother.

Conclusion?

Easy keeper.

  • Suicide Club: Genesis—real name Muneo Suzuki—is a musician and wannabe cult leader desiring fame by any means possible, proudly seeing himself as a successor to Charles Manson. Forming his own "Suicide Club", Genesis leads his gang in committing multiple crimes to get credit for the mass suicides—specifically, Genesis enjoys taking small animals and innocent people to his "Pleasure Room", where they become playthings to Genesis' sadistic whims. When hacker Kiyoko and her sister are kidnapped by his gang, Genesis has one of his men rape and butcher a girl in front of the two, before ultimately deciding to take the life of Kiyoko's sister.
  • Tesis: Professor Jorge Castro and Bosco Herranz are the serial killers behind the snuff film operation. While Castro is obsessed with the necessity of violence in media, Bosco is a natural-born sadist who simply likes to hurt other people. Bosco lures girls to his film set and videotapes himself brutally torturing them for several minutes, with Castro editing the footage for him and anxious to have him murder even more people. When a fellow student, Ángela, begins getting too close to the truth, Bosco kills his own ex-girlfriend to cut off loose ends and tries to torture Ángela for getting in his way.

My next, for the season, before I do another Dr. Moreau

What's the work?

{{Film/Haunt))'' is a 2019 horror film about an "extreme" haunt. Roommates Harper and Bailey, along with their friends, received an invitation to attend an "etreme" haunted house that requires you to surrender your phones and sign liability waivers. Unfortunately, the house soon turns genuinely dangerous. The performers are stalking them, and the horror is real. Harper's abusive boyfriend Sam attempts to find her, and the villain I'll be discussing?

The Clown

Who is the Clown?

The leader of the performers, the Clown is a man in a clown mask who is the mastermind behind the performers: the Devil, the Zombie, the Witch, and the Ghost (or Mitch). The group are a body modification cult who use killing as a way to grow within their little group and modify their faces. The group moves from place to place, murdering whomever they find and lure into the group via torturing them. One such victim is mutilated and killed as "part of the show" t the start, before the tortures an terrors begin. Bailey is stuck with a straight razor, and others are picked off one by one.

The Clown receives a call from Sam who's been tracking Harper and icily informs him "you're too late, Sam." When Sam arrives, the Clown shoots him in the neck with a nail gun, crushes his hand and then skull with a sledgehammer...after most are dead but Harper proves a little more successful, the Clown andMitch send out aother performer, only for Harper to stab them to death...revealed to be Bailey who was gagged and dressed up. Dick, dick move. One of the group in a vampire mask reveals that he's forced into it as a helper before being executed by a shotgun blast. Harper and Mitch, the last survivors, kill the performers, but the Clown escapes after burning the place down.

Harper recovers, but the Clown decides to hunt her down and finish her off. Harper, ready for him, rigs her house as a trap that captures the Clown...who then realizes too late the shotgun over the mantle is missing.

Cue Harper from a side room, leveling it at him. "Let's take off your mask."

Boom.

Mitigating issues?

Nope. The Clown is the leader of a nasty slasher cult who torture and kill people for kicks and to satisfy their body modification fetish, using it to advance further in the cult and delighting in mutilating, terrifying, torturing their victism while also pulling off their faces.

conclusion?

Easy yes.
