Welcome to the Magnificent Bastard (MB) cleanup thread! This thread is where we clean up or cut already-existing entries.

Here, you'll find explanations of the criteria for the trope as well as our rules/procedures for approving and cutting candidates.
What goes through this thread?
- Cut requests. If you believe a MB has been approved and they do not count, this thread is where you propose their removal. To know how to go about this, please see the FAQ folder on the Administrivia page, where the process is explained in detail.
- If we ever need to consider cutting multiple examples without individually reviewing them (e.g. if we discover widespread plagiarism with a particular troper's MBs), the initial discussion will be on this thread and we'll then escalate to the mod team (as described here) to get a formal consensus if we decide to recommend a mass cut.
- If an entry was put on the wrong subpage/YMMV page, you may propose where they should be moved to.
- Full rewrites of existing entries, including expansions, trims, and ground-up rewrites. If your rewrite is approved by the thread, feel free to add it to the drafts page so that other users can check grammar and the like before it is included with the rest of the weekly swaps.
- If an entry on a work's YMMV page doesn't match the entry on the media subpage, you can bring it here to discuss which entry works better.
What does not go through this thread?
- New candidate proposals - as stated before, those are done on this thread.
- Unapproved wicks - if a Troper encounters either of these kinds of wicks, they can be cut with no approval.
- Any MB link on a non-YMMV page - as a YMMV trope, it should not be linked on those pages regardless of any cleanup effort. The only exception is if the wick is being used within the definition of another trope.
- If an MB link on a YMMV page refers to an unapproved character. If it refers to an approved character on any such page, the wick can stay. On the other hand, if the unapproved character being linked to sounds like they might have promise (and you don't feel like checking it out for yourself), feel free to mention it on the approval thread - someone may already know why they don't count, or it could invite a brand new discussion!
- Proposals for images, quotes, and videos of already-approved MBs - quotes and images are proposed on the approval thread, while videos can be uploaded normally as they are screened for approval by the moderation.
- Crosswicking examples to YMMV pages - if an example has already been approved and added to the main page, you do not require any special permission to add the example to a work's YMMV page (assuming the work has a page already). If a YMMV page doesn't exist yet, then you can make it yourself, but either way, feel free to just add the example without asking.
- Small changes to existing entries - these can simply be done on a Troper's own prerogative with no approval.
- Spelling and grammar fixes.
- Pothole changes.
- Minor rewordings.
- Spoiler tags.
While these changes do not require any kind of approval, it is requested that should you make any of these changes, you do one of the following:
- Make the same changes on the relevant Sandbox page, then add the Sandbox to the list at the bottom of the drafts page. This will add the Sandbox to the weekly swaps and ensure that the edits end up on the relevant locked page. If the Sandbox is already listed, then once you make the edits, your job is already done!
- If you don't know how the Sandboxes work or simply don't have the time to find it, then you can simply post on the thread about the changes you made. Someone else can then make the edit on the relevant Sandbox and add it to the weekly swaps.
- Alternatively, you can simply request that the change be made directly to the locked page on the Locked Pages thread. Members of this thread keep track of that one, so we will ensure that the changes are made in the Sandbox so that it doesn't get deleted during the next swap.
Again, these changes don't require any approval, but we prefer to keep the entries on the YMMV pages and the locked pages the same in order to avoid any miscommunication or errors between entries, so if you do make the change, we would greatly appreciate it if you could ensure the change is made on the locked page as well.
As a final note, we do not care what other sites have to say regarding whether or not a character counts. We have our own criteria and they have theirs for their MB equivalents; while they are similar, they are not exactly the same and should not be treated as such. Another site removing a character from their equivalent should not be a reason why a cut is proposed here, and if this is the case, it will likely lead to mod intervention.

Fixed that.
MagnificentBastard.Alien Vs Predator is listed on its indexes as follows:
- Alien vs. Predator (includes each individual franchise)
I propose changing this to:
- Alien vs. Predator (includes the individual Alien and Predator franchises)
- Alien vs. Predator (includes the Alien and Predator franchises)
Norbert the Nutjob from How to Train Your Dragon is listed as an MB, but after reading the books, I think he should be cut. My reason is he’s subjected to a lot of undignified slapstick, such as getting shot in the ass with an arrow. He has an especially explosive Hair-Trigger Temper as well, prone to screaming fits and childish arguments. While he is smarter than he initially seems, I don’t think his brief appearance in the final book is enough to nullify his Villainous Breakdown in his previous appearance. This single line is his only part in the last book:
Even Norbert the Nutjob was there, unbeknownst to anybody, complete with a Dragonmark and disguised as a Wanderer, but that is another story.
That’s it. No interaction with Hiccup or any other major character. It’s basically like Freakshow’s cameo in Danny Phantom. Compared to the other listed MB, the tragic and complex Furious, he doesn’t hit this trope in my eyes.
Thoughts?
That sounds pretty damning to me. I vote to cut.

- Magnificent Bastard: Benoit Manderubrot is quite possibly one of the most sadistic examples. Fueled only by his desire to spread destruction, he plays both sides of the mission he's participating in, leaking information to the crew of the Dante space cruiser and using the ensuing conflict to effortlessly sneak aboard and slaughter the ship's entire crew, leaving him with little opposition as he turns the ship into his own personal bringer of chaos. Even after Jutah defeats him, he manages to get the last laugh by revealing to Jutah that he was the war commander who manipulated him into burning down the village of civilians that turned him into an emotionless killing machine in the first place. He dies happily knowing that Jutah, effectively his creation, will continue to live.

Oh and also, thanks to miraculous for informing me, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles recently wrapped up its sequel series. Both Shredder and Rita return, and both still count. Shredder is more awesome than ever, and while Rita has some setbacks, she's overall fine at this juncture, so let me update and separate their entries accordingly.
The current:
- The Shredder and Rita Repulsa themselves are depicted as a deadly competent duo here. After Shredder manipulates the undercover Green Ranger Tommy into a trap and steals his Dragonzord, Rita first duels Shredder for the device before the villains decide to work together. First leading the Power Rangers into an ambush and removing their powers, Shredder and Rita then unleash a monster that nearly kills the Turtles, only to ramp the stakes up and turn Rocksteady and Bebop into giant monsters when the Turtles survive. When the heroes take down even Shredder's gigantic Zord and remove his Ranger powers, Shredder still stands his ground willing to fight to the death, while Rita takes the opportunity to coerce Shredder into escaping with her to Dimension X, the witch having her own plans to use its advanced technology as both herself and Shredder get away with their crimes for the day.
And rewrites:
- The Shredder is the dangerous, ruthless, and honorable leader of the Foot Clan. After he manipulates the undercover Green Ranger Tommy into a trap and steals his Dragonzord, Shredder teams with Rita Repulsa to take down their collective foes. Shredder works with Rita to remove the Power Rangers' abilities and unleash monsters on the Turtles, before personally using a Zord to try to wipe them out himself. Though beaten, Shredder is willing to go out fighting, and later flees from Rita's alliance when he discovers she has teamed with Kraang to enslave humanity. Proclaiming that Earth belongs to him and no one else, Shredder allies with the Turtles and Rangers to fight off the invading Dimension X armies, and regularly goes out of his way to save his allies. Ultimately using a Zord to take down Kraang's giant robot form, Shredder saves the world with the heroes and, though he parts ways amicably with the Turtles, he reveals he has allied with Lord Zedd to further scheme the conquest of Earth.
- Rita Repulsa is a charming enchantress whose skills for subterfuge and manipulation are more competent than ever. Rita first duels Shredder for the Dragonzord he stole from Tommy before the villains decide to work together, leading the Power Rangers into an ambush and removing their powers before unleashing monsters that nearly kills the Turtles. When their initial plan is defeated, Rita takes the opportunity to coerce Shredder into escaping with her to Dimension X, the witch having her own plans to use its advanced technology and an alliance with Kraang to win the day. Rita betrays Shredder and teams with Kraang to invade Earth, staging a variety of assaults and transforming minions into powerful mutants to weaken Earth's defenses. Deducing that Casey Jones has faked his allegiance to her, Rita transforms him into her puppet and uses him to nearly eliminate the Turtles and pave the way for Dimension X's victory.

Having just binged through the series, I also have a slight rewrite on Dr. Aphra; the current is kind of vague on the actual details, so I wanted to add a little context to the exploits being described.
- Doctor Chelli Lona Aphra is a rogue archaeologist who believes in guile and might deciding one's way. Working as a brilliant operative for Darth Vader by gathering information and technology, Aphra manages to fool even the Sith Lord into thinking he had killed her before escaping with her life ahead of her. Later betraying Luke Skywalker to the tyrannical Queen of Ktath'atn, Aphra helps him defeat the parasitic monster even as her treachery costs her Luke's respect. Forming an intense relationship with Magna Tolvan, an imperial officer, Aphra uses their relationship to once more fake her death before leaving her for her own safety, going on to play the Rebel Alliance to orchestrate the death of the Imperial minister responsible for her mother's murder. Subsequently ending up in Vader's service again, Aphra sabotages the Empire's efforts to locate the Rebel base on Hoth before escaping his wrath once more. Always with a new scheme in mind, Aphra manipulates and scams everyone she meets throughout the galaxy to get rich and survive another day, while always ensuring her loved ones are safe.

The thing is that a) I don't want to do anything without the okay from 43 because he was the one who did the entry and b) the entry is already at the pothole limit and I don't know if it is necessary.
- Magnificent Bastard: The imagined version of William "Billy" Loomis is introduced as the darkly charismatic manifestation of his daughter Samantha "Sam" Carpenter's inner darkness. To protect Sam and her half-sister Tara, Billy sways Sam to tell Tara the truth and trust no one else, also demanding she hunt down and murder the Ghostface killers. Heeding Billy's advice, Sam frees a captive Tara to subdue the one half of the Ghostface duo and later Billy draws Sam's attention to a hidden blade to murder the other one. Proud of Sam for surviving, Billy stays by her side to watch over her next outing with Ghostface.
Like I think it might be better without it but just wanted to ask for more opinions.

I'm good with whatever 43 thinks since the Ghost of Billy is his candidate and he did both the original entry and the rewrite too.
Not sure if it's here or over on proposal that I bring this up—probably here, but for Live Action Films, non-MCU Marvel is up to 10 at least (that's counting Magneto twice by the way) and DC Films is up to at least 12 (that's including the six from the DCEU in the count too). So what say everyone? Give each one a page?

I'm indifferent to the idea. I can live with it but I don't think pages are necessary right now but at the same time I don't see why not. I am willing to hear other takes but for now I'm 50/50 on the idea.

MCU already has its own page. Marvel Films and DC Films each by themselves would be beneficial too.
Again, 10 count for Marvel and 12 count for DC.
That's plenty for each one.
I'll start the sandboxes if no one objects. I'll wait until official approval though. I got all the entries saved up for each one and again, looking for word on whether or not I missed anything for either one.

I just don’t see the need for a page for them yet. Is there anything that’s messing with their current placements? It’s technically enough for a page but they’d be really small considering they’re not grouped together at the moment, and I don’t personally see a reason to group them together yet.
Just wanted to bring this to your guys' attention; the index on Magnificent Bastard.Anime & Manga is broken at the moment.
Orcus on His Throne will always be my pet peeve.
