To-do list
- Speedrun is now a Definition-Only Page per crowner decision. Examples on a work's trope list and wicks that don't fit the definition need to be removed. Wicks that use "speedrun" as a term correctly can be left alone. Wick cleanup is being tracked using the Sandbox.Speedrun Wick Cleaning sandbox.
An argument was made on Tropes Needing TRS that the Speedrun article isn't really a trope and is actually better off as a Useful Notes page.
I did a wick check to determine how the term is used on the site: Speedrun Wick Check
- Refers to speedruns: 20/50 (40%)
- Refers to speedrunning techniques: 11/50 (22%)
- Refers to speedrunners: 6/50 (12%)
- Refers to speedrun categories (eg. "Any%"): 4/50 (8%)
- Refers to the speedrunning community: 3/50 (6%)
- Refers to speedrunning: 2/50 (4%)
- Conflates racing with speedrunning: 1/50 (2%)
- Mixed: 2/50 (4%)
- Indexes: 1/50 (2%)

It sounds like we need to adjust Challenge Run to accommodate those other tropes. This page I agree should be D-O (fanspeak), with a clear explanation that Speedrun Reward is for games encouraging the challenge.

TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupI already said I'd be fine with definition-only as well. As a side note, I don't think we need to make a new page for game-imposed (Challenge Run) counterparts when we have both Timed Mission and Time Trial.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.I deliberately died while resetting to skip 2 links while on the home page so I can agree to make it definiton only.

TV Tropes ruined Faust's lifeDef only
She/Her | Currently cleaning N/AI still think this would be better as a Useful Note.

Trust no one.Supporting a move to UN, but unfortunately Def Only is already taking a lead, so I'm probably better off abstaining from voting.

135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300I like Def Only and collecting all of the run tropes under the Challenge Run banner.
I was planning to run a crowner regardless of how votes go in posts due to the split between whether it should be definition-only or UN.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.I feel like UN makes more sense than DO. This isn't really a trope or even a fandom term, which would fit DO better, and diving into the minutia of the culture surrounding the concept and explaining it in somewhat high detail is more of a UN thing anyway.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?A UN page's main purpose is to be used as an informational resource for story telling and media I don't think Speedrun fits into that.
Also, DO pages don't have to be Fanspeak terms. They overlap a lot of the time.

Macron's notesHooked a crowner since it's been long enough.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Changing my vote to Def Only. Mods have made it clear this isn't really Useful Notes material.
It's complicated, but developers didn't invent the "speedrun" term, it's those who played the game did. Therefore, it's a fan-term. And because we have fan-terms in Definition-Only Pages, I would support putting it there.
However, the example list cannot be really put into the page anymore, regardless of the outcome. We'll probably need to preserve some examples somewhere else.
Edit: Agreed with the below post.

How many games got ported into Nintendo Switch? A lot of them.Maybe we could have Popular With Speedrunners YMMV item. Taking a quick glance through the page, a lot of Speedrun examples might fit into it.
The page also has a list of "tropes associated with speedruns", which I like but I don't know if such a list is appropriate for a Definition-only page (most other such pages don't have lists like this). The list is rather loose - with the exception of Speedrun Reward, none of the tropes listed actually relate to the definition of a speedrun, they're just various video game tropes that happen to be more prevalent when people are speedrunning. Definition-only pages usually only list tropes that specifically relate to the thing being defined (eg. see Point of View, Fusion).
Actually, we have definition-only pages with trope lists on them, like Stuffed into the Fridge and, more recently, Gainaxing.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Of course I checked a bunch and didn't see those ones :) Cool, happy to keep those bits then
I'm just curious, does that means we just can't put speedrunning examples nor put it in other pages directly, but still can keep tropes related to speedrunning in it's page?
How many games got ported into Nintendo Switch? A lot of them. That's what it means. No "* Speedrun: ", but it can still be referenced.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupIt's been 3 days. I think we can call.
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallCalling thread in favor of:
- Make a Definition-Only Page (mutually exclusive with moving to Useful Notes)
Crown Description:
It's been argued that the Speedrun page isn't really a trope, and is instead a piece of terminology. What should be done with the page?
Def-Only. We also have Speedrun Reward for some in-game examples.
All those X-runs are categories of Challenge Run (which surprizingly doesn't list them)
