Everything Everywhere All at Once is a mind-bending, genre-mashing, multiversal anti-nihilism film starring Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan.

Personally, I sobbed throughout the third act of this film and raced to recommend it to everyone I knew. It has EVERYTHING (everywhere all at once) — scifi, martial arts, family drama, a loving tribute to Michelle Yeoh's career, homages to everything from Pixar to Wong Kar-wai, visual comedy, Stephanie Hsu stomping on everyone dressed as a pop girl...10/10 perfect film in my book, no notes. I'm in awe of a movie that can make me emotional at the visual of two rocks tumbling down a hill.

Seen it? Your thoughts?

My favorite film of the year thus far, by far. I love how it can zig-zag between hilarious, tearjerking, and action-packed WITHOUT it feeling like an awkward gear-shift, and it sent some powerful and earnest messages about why it's dangerous to live in the past, something I myself have been struggling with lately, so it resonated with me in that regard.

Also, a doomsday device created by using literally everything as a topping for a bagel. Inspired.

I absolutely loved this movie. It really hit home for me, and I love how it made me laugh as much as it made me cry.

I loved it, it's going to be very difficult to top as my movie of the year. It mixed cool, absurd, and emotional very, very well.

I'm trying to figure out an extravagant X Meets Y pitch for this film because it's so over-the-top. Currently I'm at "The Matrix meets Paprika meets In the Mood for Love meets Loki (2021) meets Kung Fu Hustle".

Gonna try to see it tomorrow. It has been described as being tailor-made for me by my sister so I'm pretty pumped. Trying to go into it as blind as possible other than knowing that Short Round and Michelle Yeoh do multiversal kung fu, which... jesus, really does sound like my jam.

Did lead to an argument over whether he's Short Round or he's Data. I stand by the former, especially since the next day we went to a Yankees game.

Ke Huy Quan as Waymond is one of the more holyfuckinshit comeback performances I've seen in a long while. As a die-hard genre picture nerd I've made peace with the fact that most of my favourite performances won't get awards recognition because it's not how those shows roll, but good god I'll be miffed if he doesn't get at least an Oscar nod for the part(s).

... also hoping he comes back in Indiana Jones 5 after disappearing inexplicably.

^^Yeah I know it's only April and we have almost a years' worth of movies before Oscars 2023 but IDC I am already on the Best Picture train. Also the "Doctor Strange? I Don't Know That Guy, Waymond Wang Best Multiversal Male Lead" train. (Or Best Actor Oscar I'll take that too.)

I boggled too when I realized that was Short Round all grown up. There should be a Best Comeback Oscar just for him.

Went to go see this last night. It was pretty great because it was a late showing and there were only like three other people in the theater.

I really enjoyed this film and would recommend it to anyone on the fence. Its a marvelous combination of action, science fiction, comedy, and family drama. Its going to be hard for another film to top this one this year.

Even though I like a lot of A24 films, they can be hard to recommend and I'd need to know the person's tastes to do so, that isn't the case with Everything Everywhere All At Once. Beyond it's beautiful visuals, and powerful themes it's a fun movie that's easy to watch with something for everyone.

Casting magic: Stephanie Hsu joins her EEAAO parents Ke Huy Quan and Michelle Yeoh in the Disney+ adaptation of American Born Chinese:

Hsu will appear as Shiji Niangniang, the Goddess of Stones, who works in a modern day jewelry shop along with her magical dog. Yeoh is set to play Guanyin, an unassuming auntie who helps her nephew Wei-Chen navigate the challenges of American high school while maintaining her secret identity as the all-powerful Buddhist bodhisattva of Compassion. Quan will play Freddy Wong, a fictional character from a popular mid-1990s sitcom.

Sounds like a live action version of a Xianxia Manhua i've been reading, I'm an Evil God, where the main lead can travel to alternative worlds via transmigration into alternate selves to get more power.

Of course, this has to fit a similar concept into a movie instead of a long running comic, but it sounds similar enough that I want to try it when it comes to streaming or home video.

Just got back from seeing it and really enjoyed it. As others have said it mixes the drama, comedy, absurd, and emotional depth quite well.

I know Michelle Yeoh is already a legend, but how honestly refreshing to see an action hero film staring a 59 year old asian woman kicking ass being a wife and a mum. We need stories like this!

Not just a movie. This was the most absurd, profound, hilarious, deeply moving, hardest hitting, and inspirational piece of cinema I have ever experienced. Genuinely. It is ridiculous yet meticulously crafted. I had tears from laughter, sobbed from sadness, and cried from joy. It shouldn't work, but it did, and I haven't stopped thinking about it since I saw it. Please go support this movie!

Literally just got back from the theaters. This film is so different than anything else out there. It's so absurd and chaotic yet touching and heartfelt at the same time. This instantly became probably my favorite movie ever. Do yourself a favor and go watch this movie!!

This movie felt like what I wanted Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness to be.

Its downright comical that both movies came out around the same time too.

And for me, Sonic 2 had a sort of multiverse/alternate dimension in its setting. So that's three movies with a multiverse I saw this year.

The concept of the multiverse just seems to be having a moment in the sun in pop culture these days. Spider-Verse (which is from 2018) and No Way Home even both used the same concept in a similar way independently of one another.

I saw it last week. It got very confusing towards the end and I still don't terribly understand it. The "main" Evelyn is the one who got dragged on the multiverse spanning conflict, which took place like, mostly at the IRS office, didn't it? Notwithstanding hopping the multiverse to fight Jobu.

Then towards the end it seems like the "main" Evelyn suddenly switched to being from universe where Evelyn just went home after the meeting with Deirdre.

Then that Evelyn reconciles with that Joy, and that's great and all, but what about the Joy who was with Evelyn when Evelyn was fighting the guys with the butt plugs and then got Jobued? Does Evelyn reconciling with one Joy mean every Evelyn reconciles with every Joy?

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!
