Misused: Everyone Is Gay

Everyone Is Gay is supposed to be a fanfiction-specific trope about the tendency of fanworks to make all the characters gay. However, it often gets misused for non-fanworks that feature many queer characters, which fits under Cast Full of Gay. This is partly due to Everyone Is Gay being similar to Everyone Is Bi, which is not fanwork-specific.

Tropers created not one, but two wick checks showcasing the trope's misuse — this wasn't intentional, but both paint a similar picture that helps the greater point. Every Wick Check Is Gay shows equal usage (26% each) of Everyone Is Gay for both its intended meaning and Cast Full of Gay, while Cast Full Of Everyone Is Gay Wick Check shows 22% usage of Cast Full of Gay for fanworks and 30% usage of Everyone Is Gay for canon works.

I think we have some options that can help us a lot:

A) Rename Everyone Is Gay to something like Everyone Is Gay In Fanfiction, possibly making it IUEO and moving out-of-universe fanworks to Cast Full of Gay.

B) Merge the two tropes into either name.

I'm in favor of merging honestly, under Cast Full of Gay. Everyone Is Gay is a bit too snowclone-y for my liking.

I vote to merge as well, But I actually vote for Everyone Is Gay. "Cast" makes me think of the actors all being gay.

Took the words out of my mouth. Besides, fan works & literature, in particular, don't have what you can call a cast.

well, "cast of characters" is a widely used term. I agree with a merge, neutral on which name.

Merge, the sexuality changes that go into making everyone gay in a fanfic can be noted under Adaptational Sexuality.

I think "cast" is fine. We do have other trope names that use it like Cast of Snowflakes and Cast Full of Pretty Boys. From a practical perspective it would be easier to merge EIG into CFOG, which has 3x EIG's wicks.

I would be in favor of a merge. I wonder if their would be enough to make a trope for every character being gay in fanfiction it may both be The Same, but More Specific and Too Rare to Trope (I have never enountered a fanfic like that before, or at least not completely straight).

Both sound like good titles.

I also prefer the image on Everyone Is Gay on Cast Full of Gay, if Everyone Is Gay is merged with Cast Full of Gay, but that is a discussion for later.

I'm in favor of merging this into Cast Full of Gay, not just because the fact that this has less wicks means cleanup would be easier, but also because I think that name is clearer on the fact that it's a character trope.

Edit: Also, Synchronicity raised a good point regarding other tropes with the "Cast of [whatever]" naming scheme.

I also vote to merge — this just seems like "Cast Full of Gay but in Fan Works" to me.

I prefer the name Everyone Is Gay, as it's clearer and has more inbounds.

Prefer the title Everyone Is Gay too. My older post was more neutral, since I didn’t have any reasons why.

Does the difference in inbounds matter if we're already keeping the name we don't use as a redirect, due to both having five-digit inbound counts?

I think the trend of turning large portions of a canon work's cast LGBT in fanfiction might be tropeworthy, but if it is, it probably needs a rename.

That would be The Same, but More Specific (because it's just for fanfics) and The Same, but More (because it's on a large scale) to Adaptational Sexuality.

Plus it was recently agreed that Adaptational tropes apply to fanworks, so it'd be completely redundant to the aforementioned Adaptational Sexuality.

We had this same debate in the Ron the Death Eater thread can we please not bring this here again, I am honestly considering making a TRS thread for Dead Fic.

Again, I could see Everyone Is Gay's current concept working as an IUEO concept, similar to Most Fanfic Writers Are Girls. Most works that parody fanfiction also mock the tendency to ship everybody regardless of gender. Maybe we could expand it beyond just homosexuality to include characters being made bisexual and stuff too.

I wouldn't oppose an IUEO version if there's examples of it. I've seen none so far.

What debate? I don't think there even is one, considering this was already decided on the other thread.

As I've previously mentioned, a vote to make Polish the Turd IUEO had to be overturned because there weren't enough in-universe examples for it to work. Are there in-universe examples of Everyone Is Gay?

Huh, I guess it does. The existence of Everyone Is Bi is a source of confusion we should really consider here.

I mean the debate over if "x trope but fanfiction" was enough of a distinction.

I feel Everyone Is Bi could be partially split into Playersexual if the trope is merged with Everyone Is Gay.
