Needs Help: The Con

I believe crazysam was just pointing out the differences in how they're troped, not how they should be troped. I don't remember any examples of 419 Scam not being used as a side-joke or one-time gag.

Are they going to all get redirects?

Surprised The Mark is getting cut, since it has 170 wicks. What was the reasoning behind it?

I'm thinking The Mark got concensus as it's an integral part of The Con. Can't have a con without a mark.

As for the others, let's do The Tale and Short Con first. Neither have on-page examples needing to move. If you find wicks for the other tropes being merged in the process, I recommend doing those too so that'll lighten the loads.

Also, The Tale has a redirect that needs to be dealt with.

• 48 wicks on Short Con
• 69 wicks on The Tale (35 of them from Long Con)

Since the term is used elsewhere on the wiki, could we keep The Mark as a Definition Only Page, or add a paragraph to The Con explaining the term?

I'd be fine with either of those, though I'm leaning toward mentioning the term on The Con's page.

Same. I'm not sure I want a definition-only page for a real-life concept like that.

Sandbox.The Con is up

The Tale is dewicked.

There were still six left, including the Long Con redirect, which I turned into a redirect to The Con. Does anything from The Tale's page need to be moved over to The Con's description? There are no examples, but there is the description.

Edit: I removed some of Short Con's wicks.

Edit: I copied information from The Tale's description to The Con and turned The Tale into a redirect. I also posted notices on the discussion pages for The Con, The Tale, and Short Con.

Edit: The discussion pages for the subtropes listed in this post, as well as the discussion page for The Con itself, now also have notices on them, but I didn't touch the wicks for ones other than The Tale and Short Con.

Took care of a few wicks on The Con's Analysis page. That should ease efforts.

You missed a few, but I fixed it now. :-)

I took care of Short Con's Main/ wicks. Just 25 to go, but I'm taking a break from that trope.

Edit: Removed the lone Quote Source wick since it's going to get turned into a redirect or cut, so 24 to go.

So what do we do with the on-page examples, move them to The Con? I'd like to run through The Roper, but I wanted to make sure I was doing it right.

Yea, move them to The Con (their supertrope).

Alright, I moved over the examples that had enough context to move. Later we'll want to do a page-cleanup of The Con. I noticed a lot of poorly-written examples or ZCEs.

Anyway, cleaning out The Roper now.
