Opening.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanExpand definition to include misuse. Keep Critical Annoyance for when games use an unnecessarily obnoxious sound as a interface alert.
I think a move to Darth Wiki would be a good idea as well.

Health sure is versatile. It's possible to be both light-headed and dim-witted. At the same time, no less.Honestly, what I want to do to this is:
- Permit non-video game examples.
- Either of the following:
- Move to Darth Wiki, which matches SugarWiki. Most Wonderful Sound's placement but may or may not permit off-page examples, OR
- Make In-Universe Examples Only.
I'm okay with expanding and Darth Wiki.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI think this can work as an IUEO trope.
Is Most Annoying Sound ever used that way? If not, we may as well make that an entirely separate page.
Health sure is versatile. It's possible to be both light-headed and dim-witted. At the same time, no less. There used to be an In-Universe example on the Dilbert page.
- Most Annoying Sound: (In-Universe) The company reduces the volume of tech support calls by replacing their hold music with "the sound that balloons make when you rub them."
- Wally intentionally does things that make noises that irritate his co-workers, at one point making a screen-saver of annoying cubicle sounds. And when he takes up chewing crushed ice...
Alice: Must ... destroy ... all refrigeration facilities ... on Earth.
costanton11 deleted it because, "Only for Video Games and toys".
I'd be fine with an IUEO move with the electronics-exclusive focus removed. Note that I'd only be fine with removing the electronics-exclusive focus if this is made IUEO. If there are already in-universe examples (which seems to be the case, based on the above post), I don't think making this Flame Bait and/or a Darth Wiki page is necessary (if I'm not mistaken, Internet Backdraft didn't have enough existing in-universe examples for an IUEO move to work).
On the subject of the removal of the example in the above post, I think cleanup should wait until we decide what to do with this.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.I think Most Annoying Sound should be expanded to include non-video game and toy examples and moved to Darth Wiki, to accompany Most Wonderful Sound which is in Sugar Wiki.
If this gets moved to Darth Wiki, I'd prefer if it gets the usual restriction of forbidding examples on non-Darth pages (i.e., it's made Flame Bait). That would be similar to how So Bad, It's Good is allowed on YMMV pages, but So Bad, It's Horrible isn't.
I guess I'm kind of retracting what I said about what to do with this if we remove the focus on electronics. Mainly, I don't think we should allow examples on YMMV pages if the definition is changed to match Trope Decay, whether that means making this IUEO or Darth. (Allowing it on YMMV pages if we clean up examples to match the proper definition is another story, but so far that isn't where the consensus is going, and I kind of doubt the people misusing this for complaining would stop doing so; wicks and inbounds are probably too high for a rename.)

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Wouldn’t be opposed to a Darth Wiki move.

expand and move it to darth wiki
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Anything about what to do with the current definition? I think it works as a trope, but it would need to be renamed.
We have Critical Annoyance already.
Health sure is versatile. It's possible to be both light-headed and dim-witted. At the same time, no less.Yeah, we can put non-duplicate video game examples there during the transition to Darth Wiki. Plus, Critical Annoyance is an objective trope (as opposed to being YMMV) for that sort of thing, if that matters.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Should we make a crowner or do we need more time?
What options would there be? These options were mentioned, and I can't think of anything else:
1. Expand definition to include annoying sounds other than ones from video games or toys
2. Move to Darth Wiki to complement Most Wonderful Sound's Sugar Wiki status
3. Make In-Universe Examples Only
Options 2 and 3 are mutually exclusive with each other, but not with option 1.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.I cut listed the Image Links page due to having only one entry, whose link no longer displays an image.
I discovered this crowner that also previously had the option of moving this to Darth Wiki, as well as a separate option for forbidding on-page examples, so it looks like this isn't the first time a Darth move was discussed. My guess is that discussion happened around when Most Wonderful Sound was moved to Sugar Wiki.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass. So 2014?
Contains 20% less fat than the leading value brand! Most Wonderful Sound is listed as having been created in 2009, but I'm not sure if that's a carryover from when it was in Main/, or if that's actually when it was moved to Sugar Wiki. It might have taken a while for the Most Annoying Sound discussion to happen, if there was that long of a gap in the dates.
Edit: I cutlisted the redirect Main. The Most Annoying Sound. It only had one wick (which I changed to Most Annoying Sound) and a small amount of inbounds. The wick was for a quotes page; it wasn't listed on YMMV Redirects.
Update: The cut request was declined, so I added it to YMMV Redirects.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Since it's been almost four weeks since the thread was created, I went ahead and made a crowner. I had to choose a different name for the crowner because of the older crowner I previously mentioned.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Hooked.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportThe reason Most Annoying Sound is supposed to be video game specific is because it's supposed to be something that can be annoyingly spammed. If every time you click on your unit he says a stupid line, that's very different from a tv show with a Catchphrase you don't like.
The thing that keeps this from pure complaining "I don't like this noise" is the accidental spamming. Expanding this to include non-video game examples (or video game-like examples, such as a toy) is just going to make it even more of a complaining magnet.
Of course in-universe examples are another story. If you see all the characters flinching every time a kid activates her singing doll, that's perfectly valid under the current definition.
Crown Description:
What should be done with Most Annoying Sound? Option 1 is not mutually exclusive with options 2 and 3, but options 2 and 3 are mutually exclusive with each other.
The says the trope is meant for audio cues that srupt gameplay and force the player to focus on the sound instead of the game itself. It specifically mentions that the sound must fall into one of the following categories or it's just personal dislike: Annoying Video Game Helper, Critical Annoyance, death sounds, Ear Worm, Repetitive sounds, and taunt.
However, the trope is often misused to refer to any sound from any media that a person finds annoying, often used for complaining purposes. The fact the the Trope Namer for the trope is from a movie doesn't seem to help. I've removed examples of misuse in the past but there are still at least 90 wicks that refer to non-video games namespaces, not including subpages.
In addition, the page also has a section for toys. Is this allowed?
