Edit: I've created the index. So far I've added only those pages that have mandatory waiting periods already in effect.
It's been brought up in a few places recently (most notably in this ATT thread
) that we have a few tropes / Audience Reactions / etc. that have mandatory waiting periods before being added. The suggestion has been made— which I tend to agree with— that some sort of index to keep track of which tropes have waiting periods and what those periods are would be helpful.
Besides what's already on the index, we've got:
- Specific Mandatory Waiting Period Suggested:
- Critical Dissonance - Brought up here as being too early to call on release weekend. Fighteer suggests a one-month mandatory waiting period on all similar "reception tropes."
- Overshadowed by Controversy - a 6-month mandatory waiting period has been suggested but not agreed upon yet
- The Scrappy - Due to its close association with Base-Breaking Character and its status as a complaining magnet, has been suggested for a 6-month waiting period in this thread.
- Critical Dissonance - Brought up here
- No specific waiting period has been suggested, but adding it too early has caused problems:
- Eight Deadly Words - It was suggested here that the below should apply to this as well
- So Bad, It's Good - Fighteer noted here that the weekend of release was too early to apply tropes like these
- So Okay, It's Average - see above
- Eight Deadly Words - It was suggested here

Hey I have a question.
Someone added examples on GenreTurningPoint.Music that are from 2013, despite the trope itself having a 10-year time limit. What I did was comment them out with this note:
I figured since these examples need only 2 years to be addable, this was an acceptable move.
But now I'm wondering—was this something I shouldn't have done? Should I have just removed them?
Sorry if the answer is obvious—I have significantly limited my involvement with the site for the past few months, and I haven't really done anything serious for a while, so I may have forgotten the proper procedure.

Here's an example for one that doesn't allow on-page examples, but could mitigate some clutter found on a lot of YMMY pages.
- It Was His Sled: (10 years) To avoid someone coming across a relatively recent Late-Arrival Spoiler and to make sure the spoiler in question remains culturally relevant.

10 years feels a bit too long given the fast motion of pop culture nowadays. What about 5? Or even 2?
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.
5 years seems like a good call, especially how quickly something like that one spoiler in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince became a meme. 2 years might be a bit too quick.
Here's some more ideas that I've had floating in my head recently that I'm interested in feedback on:
- Seasonal Rot: (6 months after the season is over or, if not something grouped by seasons, 8 months after the contentious installment comes out): To prevent knee-jerk reactions about an episode/arc and to see if some sort of consensus is formed about the season's quality.
- Seinfeld Is Unfunny: (10 years) To see if the work truly feels quaint compared to its successors rather than causing brief and minor trends, and as a time barrier to curb its use as thinly-veiled gushing for a work.
This is another one that forbids on-page examples, but it would again potentially clean up YMMV pages:
- WTH, Casting Agency? (1 week): To prevent pre-release speculation without the context of how people reacted to the performance once they saw the work.

I am not sure to write for the entries for Quietly Cancelled, Career Resurrection, and Role Reprise because I don’t follow this thread at all. I only came here to update the crowner because someone requested it.

I've added a few entries to the Administrivia page. With Dueling Works, Role Reprise, and Sequel Gap all counting backward from a point in time other than the present, they get a mini-section at the bottom to alleviate the "this isn't technically recency" concerns brought up earlier.
