Unreleased Work Page Cleanup (Speculation, Spoilers, ZCE etc.)

Go To

This is a thread for checking up on pages for works that have not been released yet, to make sure that they are not straying into rampant speculation or posting crazy behind the scenes spoilers. You can bring both individual examples or entire pages to attention here.

In extreme cases, any page can be locked, but hopefully that won't be necessary.

(As these pages often are hit with zero-context examples and shoehorning as well, all four - speculation, spoilers, ZCEs, and shoehorning may get addressed simultaneously.)

The policy governing this effort is Creating A Work Page For An Unreleased Work. Cleanup is being tracked using the Unreleased Works sandbox.

All pages for unreleased works should include a %% comment at the top of the page, confirming the policy and linking to this thread and the Administrivia page. It doesn't have to be exactly the same as the example provided here, but this provides a template to work with.

%%
%% For unreleased works where all we have to go on is advertising and other supplemental materials, we have some detailed guidelines, which can be found at Administrivia/CreatingAWorkPageForAnUnreleasedWork.
%%
%% NOTE - these rules also mean that unreleased works should only have one page image, and that image should NOT be changed again until the work is released.

Given how the unreleased work discussion started in the first place, we might need to take a close look at Pokémon Diamond and Pearl...

Hopefully a remake won't be as troublesome.

So far all that's been added was them being announced and some bits about the production. We'll see if anything causes trouble.

I'm more concerned about Pokemon Legends: Arceus, as the shake-ups seem like prime speculation bait. But for now, no one seems to be trying to even force out tropes to force a page, so I'll just hang back until someone does.

Once we get more than a handful of tropes for the remakes, we can implement folders for the originals and remakes like how the pages for other games are formatted. We just need to make sure that any tropes listed for BDSP exclusively apply to those installments to avoid redundancy along with addressing the usual problems unreleased work pages attract.

[up] Also worried about Pokémon Legends: Arceus for the reasons listed above. When pages related to it get created, we need to be on the lookout for gushing in addition to speculation and ZCEs.

Right now the only tropes I can think of for BDSP are Console Cameo (the Switch in the player character's room), maybe Mythology Gag (the new take on the Eterna City statue has features from both Dialga and Palkia, similar to how it was depicted in Pokémon Adventures) and maybe Breaking Old Trends (first core series game to not be primarily developed by Game Freak, first remake that doesn't share its art style with the other games of the same generation on shared hardware). Maybe there's a few tropes related to the art style we can add, but I think it's too early to add the originals/remakes folders.

Is it alright if I make Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade — the title of the upcoming Updated Re-release — a redirect for Final Fantasy VII Remake?

[up] Redirects are unaffected by the unreleased work policy IIRC. You're in the clear.

Kevin Can F**k Himself has a page. The work has a trailer but no exact release date (just "summer 2021"). Should that be cut?

[up]Seasons (e.g. "summer 2021") are enough to satisfy the release date requirement.

I found Fraymakers. The page has a release window (early 2022) and a trailer... but it doesn't have any actual tropes on it.

[up] No tropes marks this for the cutlist, unless someone adds them very soon.

[up] I added some tropes to the page. Noah1 also tried adding tropes, but they didn't have citations, so they've been commented out or deleted.

Would Massively Multiplayer Crossover count as an example of a trope that's so self-evident, it doesn't need a citation (akin to the "Final Fantasy VII Remake is a Video Game Remake of Final Fantasy VII" situation)? If not, how would you cite something when practically all of the game's promotional material shows characters from many different universes?

Using "Final Fantasy VII Remake doesn't have The Remake" is bad precedent for several reasons; there is a wick on The Remake which should be crosswicked onto the work page and it isn't really a remake. Better to say "many promotional materials focus on the use of characters from many different franchises" as context.

Ironically, FFVIIR not actually being a remake may have helped prove why the policy needs to exist.

Wish I could cite it as an example of incorrect "seemingly obvious" speculation.

Brought up on ATT but it looks like it didn't get posted here: ComicBook.Green Lantern 2021 has a release this April and has no tropes.

Ironically the only reason I know that FFVIIR isn't a remake, having not played it since I don't have a PS4/5, is this topic.

(We're really getting into self-fulfilling territory here, aren't we?)

[up]No tropes means it gets the axe.

Sorry, I'm the one who brought up the upcoming comics issue. I got busy and forgot to post here.

I figure Green Lantern 2021 would just be cut since it doesn't have any tropes.

My bigger issue is Justice League 2021, which isn't correctly named. It's just a new creative team on Justice League (2018), not a new series onto itself. Work pages are named by the series and year it starts if there's more than one series called that, such as with Cable (2020) or Excalibur 2020. The alternative is usually using the writers' name if the year isn't available or if it's part a larger series that the writer didn't launch, like with Donny Cates' Venom or James Tynion IV's Batman. DC Rebirth saw pages created with a "Rebirth" tagged onto the end, which in hindsight wasn't a good decision given that branding went away after 2 years, but it at least separated Detective Comics (Rebirth) from, well, the 900+ issues of Detective Comics that came before it.

I really think that the Justice League page should be moved to Brian Michael Bendis Justice League or Justice League (Infinite Frontier) to keep with convention, if it's kept around in its current state at all. The examples are kinda jumping the gun for the sake of filling the page. The Mythology Gag is just... a thing that happened before. It isn't so much a gag as a thing they're doing again (Black Adam being a member of a superhero team would also fit, if that example counts).

Kinda similarly, Teen Titans Academy is stretching. The Mythology Gag isn't one, it's just a lineup of a team that correlates with a show, which was taking its line-up from a comic anyway but removed some members. The Ret-Canon thing is, similarly, a thing that the Titans have done before that predates the movies; it's just a thing they're doing again, so it's hardly an example. The Superhero Speciation example boils down to a speedster... existing in the series, because Kid Flash isn't in it as far as I know, so that trope would more be applicable to, like, the entire DCAU given the superpower overlap in the setting.

Tl;dr:

So, when we get trailers and the release date for Netflix's Cowboy Bebop series (it's set to be released this year), do you think that the potential page should be under Series.Cowboy Bebop or Series.Cowboy Bebop 2021?
