Ok, she was well known for harassing Pikamee and the incident with her was 6 months ago.
MB Pending | MB Drafts | MB Datesagreed, and tbh i mostly saw culture war crap. i had to wade to see discussion about the ending
hail, holy queen of the sea, you're whirling-in-rags, you're vast and you're sadDo you think we can remove El Goonish Shive from the list? Because I looked online and couldn’t find anything about biphobia or any major controversy really.
Sure, that sounds doable

In honor of Akira ToriyamaSo is everyone cool with me moving the She Hulk example to Broken Base or do I keep it under this and just make another entry for it under Broken Base?
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI'm not really sure it qualifies as Broken Base. That implies there's two (or more) warring factions of fans.
But most of the discourse around She-Hulk was a bunch of non-fans going "women superheroes are bad, especially when they outperform men, and especially when they dare to do something as pearl-clutch inducing as twerking." It wasn't people who were otherwise fans of the show quarreling with other fans of the show.
Seriously, people got so mad about the twerking, it was embarassing.
I’d it’s just non fans who don’t like it I don’t think it’s Broken Base but it’s definitely not Overshadowed by Controversy. It’s definitely an example of something. Do we have a complaining about shows you don’t watch trope or something like that?

In honor of Akira ToriyamaIt's a permanent redlink.
Unfortunately in this case, TBH, because I do agree that it seems really inappropriate to trope the whole roving band of Gamergaters/Trumpists/"anti-woke"/generally shitting-up-the-place people as part of the fandom for most (though not all) of the works they complain about in the first place, specifically because they tend to go from place to place complaining more than anything else.
So I should just remove it then add figure out what the trope is later?
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadOk, now what does everyone think about this?
In honor of Akira ToriyamaYeah I haven't heard about that controversy at all when I searched it up.
MB Pending | MB Drafts | MB DatesOkay removed it.
I say cut it.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadAlright, great
In honor of Akira ToriyamaFound this in YMMV.War Of The Visions Final Fantasy Brave Exvius:
- Overshadowed by Controversy:
- In Japan, the initial release saw negative reviews due to the disastrous first run of the Final Fantasy XIV collab. The raid event was almost unplayable due to the sheer amount of bugs, to the point where it had to be cut from the Global version. In addition, they made Thancred, the Ultra Rare chase unit, a 100-cost UR on top of his limited-time availability. Finally, the Shop never had a rate-up for his shards, and the Collaboration Shop never sold his shard packs. This meant that to max Thancred out, you needed to pull on a separate banner for medals to redeem his shards. In order to guarantee a MLB Thancred, you needed 600,000 Visiore. Since then, the game has recovered, and the Global version largely avoided these shortfalls.
- The EXVIUS Universe collab, in general. The release of the first Global Original unit, Fryevia, was overshadowed by the backlash from being a limited-time unit. Unlike all other Final Fantasy Brave Exvius units, Gumi and Square Enix decided to make her limited. Players saw this as a diversion from the norm, since none the other units from Exvius (including Rain) were limited. The hype around her immediately died, as most people saw her limited-time status as an arbitrary cash grab.
- The second part was even less well-received. While they gave a generous amount of rewards, Gumi also took away the Elemental Fragments of Thought from the monthly rewards and the free weekly 10-pull. A misconception also rolled around that the daily 10-pull rewards starting on June 29th were always going to come with Warrior of Light, but it was later revealed that they were from a Japanese YouTube channel campaign. Even the release of Vinera Fennes, one of the most hotly-desired fan favorite units, did little to quell player anger. People considered the second rewards as a bait-and-switch and a redistribution of resources, not a generous gift.
Yeah this obviously is natter, want me to remove it?

MB Pending | MB Drafts | MB DatesI'm thinking Monster Hunter (2020) deserves a mention on here for its controversy regarding (potentially accidentally) referencing a racist playground chant. Yes, that controversy seems minor but it makes up a significant portion of our YMMV page and given the movie's negligible pop culture impact, there's not a lot that it needs to overshadow. "An uproar on Chinese social media" about the controversy is a lot more noise than I think anyone can say this Box Office Bomb otherwise had on the wider discourse.
I don't think the controversy is too well-remembered today, but it's still more than the rest of the movie which has also been largely forgotten.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them. It’s overshadowed in China. Elsewhere it’s seen as a straight example of Video Game Movies Suck and largely forgotten.
Why waste time when you can see the last sunset last?Would that not count? "Overshadowed in one location, completely forgotten elsewhere" means that its overall cultural footprint is the controversy. Plus, I still think that what little western discussion there is of it is still probably overshadowed by discussion of the controversy, just because there's so little discussion otherwise.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.It wouldn’t count elsewhere because qualifying for the trope means that a work’s name is irrevocably associated with a controversy. This is just an example of Americans Hate Tingle.
Why waste time when you can see the last sunset last?Localized examples can count, especially considering this is the only thing the work is known for in any locale.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.Going to try write this neutrally, but as someone who plays Monster Hunter, the most people inside and outside the fandom know of the movie is that it sucks rather than it being Banned in China. I'd be opposed to adding it since its already covered by the latter trope.
On an off note I found this entry on Web Original.
- Very few people know anything about comedienne Nicole Arbour other than her making controversial videos to attract viewers, her most infamous being "Dear Fat People" and her This Is America parody This is Women, which many have viewed as a tone-deaf white feminist mockery of the original, and her abuse of Matthew Santoro when the two were in a relationship.
Would it be safe to cut since its another entry where the controversy is because the person themselves is provocative?
Unless her entire career is based around being provocative, I think she keeps.
I mean she's overshadowed by an intentional controversy. It was a deliberate attempt at provoking outrage.
Why waste time when you can see the last sunset last?I don't think it matters if the controversy was intentional. What matters is whether it overshadows anything else about her, including other controversies.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.
Honestly I kinda think the culture war reaction was kinda intended/predicted by the writers (in universe, they show how She Hulk receives many sexist comments on social media that mirrored actual comments, even though the show was made months before that, and they have an anonymous parody as a villain). So IDK if it counts since it seems like the writers knew it would generate this reaction.
